Honestly? Fuck this culture of shaming people for learning about things late and liking them. who gives a shit if you discovered a song from years ago and youre in love with the band? Catch up with series you just discovered and talk about them to your friends, fall in love with movies others have known way before you even heard of them, read books youd heard of long ago but never got interested in until now and become a huge fan!! i am like 99% sure that nomura didnt just give kairi a hair cut out of nowhere. if you really think that axel just likes kairis hair then yes! he can genuinely like it im just saying that nomura isnt a simple man who does things without reason.

we see axel and kairi watching the sunset together. i want to think that axel will feel the slightest familiarity of watching the sunset with someone similar to kairi and that it may trigger his memory of xion just for the fact that characters such as vanitas and repliku who we thought was gone has reappeared so there may be a chance that xion may too. however that theory may be wrong but i think it was done this way so players will feel the nostalgia of xion even if axel doesnt.

we all know xion resembles kairi because of when her heart was with soras so she is soras depiction of kairi. namine also resembles kairi bc she is her nobody and i think she has long hair bc she is like the older kairi. so the reason why xion doesnt have long hair is bc she is like young kairi. the kairi that sora remembers the most and first loved.

young kairi with short hair looks more like xion. so kairi cutting her hair short again makes xion resemble her even more. this MEANS something for axel since xion was one of his best friends. its just he doesnt remember. kingdom hearts has so much depth to it so its up to us players to not view things so one dimensionally and realize that the way nomura sets things up has some type of significance.
