[26.10.20] HEARTZ 1/3 LIVE NOW : CHOI YENA PRESENTING: IDOL GAMERS #1

At first people only see her face. Headphones in and the set up a lot more professional than for her first vlive, it’s still clear she’s not sitting at home but in a room that looks suspiciously alike to the place she used to live at when still living with her cousin jieun. Not having the space to set up her gaming pc in the dorm, she resulted to keeping it here. Her manager chilling in the background as Yuzu invited them to stay with her and just catch a breather while she streamed this vlive, the girl is more focused on getting everything set up and working. 

“Does everything work,” she asks the chat as soon as some people start posting comments, asking where she is and where the other members are. It’s a common question that Yuzu doesn’t mind being asked. She really should nudge the others more into appearing on vlive as well. 

“The others aren’t here. As you can hopefully see when I do this-,” she moves the settings, having the game screen pop up in full screen instead and herself in a tiny window at the bottom. Bless technology. “-we’re about to hop into a coop farming squad! I don’t got heartz girls for ya but I got other idols. Let’s see if we can make them appear if I do this-” With a snap of her finger she unmutes the others, a grin on her lips as she chirps a quick hello into the microphone.

“Why don’t you guys introduce yourself real quick~,” the ex-streamer chirps, grinning at the reaction in the chat as one after another @rkkaeun , @rkyena and then @jacerk introduce themselves. “Yo, pleople are going nuts in my chat,” yuzu eventually informs the others, laughing as the rest of the gang chuckles along with her.

“Now that we got the introductions out of the way- let me explain why we’ve all gathered here today!” Completely in her element, Yuzu claps her hands together, eyes straight at the camera. “This... is ... well not a series but definitely something reoccurring. Sometimes we may stream from Androma’s Vlive channel or LUXE’s or Convex’ channels or potentially other idol groups’ channels if one of their members joins our little... gamer squad- I guess you could call it that. The principle is simple: we just all like to play games and so we play them together! Since I just finished promoting with Heartz 1/3 and Yena eonni is in the middle of promoting with LUXE and of course ISAC just finished- we could all use a bit of time to unwind and just chill down in a really relaxed and laid back game. So~ we’re going back to our coop farm in stardew valley and went live to invite you to join us and watch how we take care of our lovely samsung farm!”

Eyes crinkled into a happy eye-smile, it’s clear that she’s excited to find these tiny windows in which she can still do a thing she enjoys while also connecting her old and new world with one another. 

With the roles quickly explained and distributed, Yuzu guides them all through the streaming adventure as if she never stopped, the switch from English to Korean making things a little harder for her to land some jokes and figure out what to say and what to not say but in the end she gets a few laughs out of the others and the chat, so she’s content.

It really helps that Jace has been an old friend, who’s dynamics she can rely on and that gives her a sense of comfort to have with her.

It also helps that her friends are frigging hilarious at times. When Kaeun begins cackling suddenly and mentions how she got a trashcan lit as a hat from rumaging around in the trashcans, Yuzu nyooms down to where she was just to show the stream. Needless to say they all double over in laughter as soon as the fishing kaeun comes into view, wearing a very chic trashcan lit. 

She only hopes the viewers will enjoy these vlive streams as much as she enjoys doing them. Not only because of the games but because it was a nice way to show some interaction between the groups as well.

“ she wasn’t nervous, no. not at all. absolutely not. ”

theoretically she should be prepared for this. had she been on camera? yes she had. had she performed for a somewhat large audience before? yeah, she had done that too. had she stood on a stage while doing so? also a check.

so why did she feel like her stomach was trying to perform a dry wash in her tummy?

from not sleeping well the night before to her brain constantly going over her lines and the movements she had to execute; yuzu was a nervous mess. as she tried to analyze where her nervousness came from she ultimately came to the conclusion that she just wanted to do well. that, as well as the fact she was a teamplayer now. if she stood out badly it would automatically reflect back upon the others and that was something she couldn’t have.

always the girl who no one ever expected to debut in a group like she had announced she’d try, she knew that many of her viewers had been just as torn about the news as yuzu had been herself. she was still blessed to receive support and bring in a fanbase about the size the other girls had gathered through their own activities. however after her fail at the mgas,yuzu hadn’t expected to make it into this lifestyle so quickly.

all in all, it was a lot to catch up to and her lack of preparation made her feel like she wasn’t fully equipped for this. to yuzu it felt like going into a dungeon quest she was technically under leveled for but wanted to see if she could challenge anyway.

only that yuzu had come to realize that the idol world was less forgiving to fuck ups than the gaming world. as a streamer it was all about making people laugh when she failed. something told her people wouldn’t find it so funny if she screwed up on stage here.

so getting ready to go up, her microphone secured, make up fixed, hair done and outfit in place, she couldn’t help but send one last tiny prayer to whatever god was up there to not let her slip or blank out. 

‘just entertain ‘em like ya usually do,’ she thought to herself, exhaling a long breath. she could do this. it was time to show the world that choi yuzu could shine just as bright as heartz’ yena.

she raises her glass to her red lips and takes a sip, then studies it for a moment before looking up at the girl again and breaking into a smile. “i hope you keep supporting me and k.arma, but consider me a friend now that we’re gonna run into each other often.” doyeon doesn’t know if the other is usually shy or if it has something to do with what she just told her, but the idol hoped this would make her feel more comfortable. “should we take a selfie together?” she suggests.

“yeah. originally I watched for a pal of mine but I just ended up rootin’ for ya,” she admits while raising her shoulders into a shrug, attempted to appear more casual than she felt on the inside. to be offered a signed next album however sounded almost too good to be true. she wasn’t the biggest fan of k.arma’s sound but she could enjoy the music nonetheless and receiving a signed cd from her bias was an offer she’d never pass up. “foreal? I’d love that,” she beams, adjusting her mask carefully. she could do this. talking to doyeon wasn’t so bad and the girl was nice and just exactly how yuzu had hoped she would be.

being looked at in a form of adoration and considered adorable was something she had been prepared for. somehow all older females in this industry so far had found her endearing or adorable. truthfully, while she hadn’t expected it, yuzu couldn’t really say she minded it. “thank you, sunbaenim.”

addressing her properly for now seemed like the appropriate way but once the word ‘friend’ fell from doyeon’s lips, all of yuzu’s carefully collected cool seemed to evaporate yet again. “wait- y’said friend? yer really- we’re friends now? foreal?!” eyes wide she looks rather dumbfounded and anything but graceful. especially how hectically she agreed to the selfie together showed she was still just a tiny fangirl beneath her cool disguise.

the discomfort has been making it hard to sleep.  maybe she’ll have to get her brother to buy her a good mattress at the very least, because this bed in the dorm is just not cutting it for her.

maybe yuzu is the same, because she seems to be padding out of their shared room  -  or maybe she just came out to get a drink or something.  sua doesn’t pretend to know what’s going on in that girl’s head.  “ i can’t sleep.” she says finally, straightening her body as she tilts her head.  “ i could ask the same for you, though.”

in a way yuzu is relieved that she’s not the only one. first luda and now sua seem to be sharing her struggles to get adjusted to this dorm life. “me neither,” she thus replies simply, walking up towards the water cooker and preparing some water to brew herself a cup of tea.

“y’want a cup too?” with how they both got up to chill in the kitchen, she recons they’ll be sitting here together for a while. even if yuzu isn’t sure sua wouldn’t prefer her privacy for a little while. for now she’d worry about the tea first and then figure out if they wanted to talk or if they wanted to just pretend to have some space for a while. taking out the tea box, she takes a peek inside. 

“we got mint, green, chamomile and hibiscus.”

lunch breaks are the rare occasions on which chris could get to see any of their female trainees that were aiming for debut. well, apart from maybe one or two he annoyed on a daily, but he can’t remember the last time his eyes landed on yuzu… was it the mga’s? so when the aussie’s eyes landed on her, he made a straight line to her, placing his tray on the with a dramatic thud table and sitting across from her.

“it seemed like you fell off the face of the earth and actually know what seats you are allowed to sit on freely, how’s life?“ chris asks, casually. he wasn’t the most open person but he always wanted to know what the sphere trainee’s were up to. especially the girls nowadays. their debut scheme was pretty weird to say the least. according to his humbler opinion. it seemed even more scary than the normal route, but he could only speculate.

yuzu didn’t have to sit here on her day off and review the fancams taken of her from their first stages. she could be at home, gaming the day away, taking a breather and just relax. 

however she found herself awake around noon and decided to stop by sphere for at least a couple of hours to go over her own performances and evaluate any potential mistakes she should work on. some hesitative moves or moments when she wasn’t harmonizing as well with the others as she would have liked stood out to her and made her more aware of things she had considered solid in her performance before.

just as she was about to take notes, the noise of a tray being slammed down makes her look up slightly startled, eyes wide. recognition soon settles over her features, especially at the chair reference. with a laugh she leans back in her seat, greeting the male properly. “well I ain’t seen ya either. but ye- looks like I found ma seat now,” she jokes, a grin on her lips. “life’s been good, lotsa stuff happen. what about ya? a sphere trainee, huh?”

there were very little things that would be able to make changkyun laugh like he was right now. and in practicality, yuzu’s face and reaction definitely was able to make him laugh like a maniac. it was actually priceless in so so many ways “hey, happy birthday!” he says, grinning widely. he is still holding what is left of the cake in his hands. thank god there weren’t any coaches around, they’d probably think he was bullying poor yuzu. 

the dancer has in fact planned this way better than his closer friend thought, so when he took a step back, enough to reach one of the chairs that was close by, he pulled the towel off it. ”don’t be grumpy now. if not me, who would have surprised you like this. hmm?” changkyun asks, grin not leaving his lips for a second as he hands yuzu the towel so she can at least clean the cake a little bit.

hearing his laugh was refreshing. their friendship was precious in its own way and if she had to honestly make a statement, she’d proudly declare that she would murder for changkyun. he was her other half, her platonic soulmate in a way, and them both idols under this company made the whole debuting deal seem less frightening.

it was however that level of comfort which made her brush off the cake, shaking it from her arms rather than accepting the towel right away. “yeah... tru...,” her reply is vague, a mix of annoyed and amused which mirrors the expression on her face. she gives him a moment to retlatiate but as she’s reaching for the towel she already has one of her hands up in his face, getting whatever cake she could back onto him as a matching laugh falls from her lips. “what would I ever do without ya, huh?”

the girl looked through the wiki pages, humming at the choices, personally the outfit for queen were quite boring not mention dark. “I am not huge fan of that outfit, it is quite dull no?” she said pointing at the queen persona costume. jiyeon scoffed when read the personality of this character, “well, I admit our personalities are very similar, from she’s mostly a kind person, she can also be very bossy and is harshly critical of those who don’t live up to her expectations, hah..alas I’m not fan of the outfit…such a shame~” she sighs softly before clicking on nori wiki page next, her eyes light up seeing the beautiful costume she instantly fell in love with. Not to mention her normal outfit would be something she happily wear in general too. 

as read more about haru she fell in love with the character, “oh she is sweetheart, I love that she was trying to be a “heroine of justice”, having grown up admiring female superheroes she watched on TV. She loved them for always fighting to protect others and being happy, desiring to be just like them someday….I think I can relate to this type of character more…she even encourage silly behaviour…well that I know that very well-” she gave yuzu a look knowing exactly what she meant from the squad behaviour to yuzu chaotic personality too. 

“you think so?” generally yuzu saw queen as an underappreciated character but she could see where jiyeon was coming from. “she’s a super bad-ass rider but compared to the others she may seem a little plain,” yuzu muses, fingers on her chin. she still did love the character regardless. even if 90% of her iconic-ness came from her persona being a motorcycle. 

“alas it’s fine though. depending who you interact with and what kind of face you show to them, a person can have more than one major arcana,” yuzu explains like the fangirl she is, not even sure if any of her game knowledge applied to the actual way of reading tarot. perhaps that was something she could ask one of her friends about.

in the end though yuzu was just glad that at least noir seemed to be a character that sparked her eonni’s interest. already seeing herself with the full thieves assembled for the halloween party, she couldn’t help the excitement dancing in her eyes. “wha- hey. are yer talkin’ bout me?! I’m not silly at aaaaall.”

Her gaze followed the other’s up to the sky as she enjoyed the air, wondering if she would ever get to see a cloudless, star-filled sky. Seoul surely wasn’t a good starting point and she’s only been to one place where it would’ve been possible, hadn’t she been too busy training.

So, compared to Yuzu, she’s never really been anywhere outside of Korea before the Heartz Project. For her, wanderlust was much more relatable, though, of course, she didn’t know how the other felt. She couldn’t read minds, after all.

“Hmm,” she hummed nodding, getting the feeling that she shouldn’t continue asking about it, so she quietly sighed instead, eyes lowering to wherever they were walking to instead. The girl didn’t mind silence when around friends, but with anyone she didn’t know as well, it was easy to feel a little awkward.

“I wonder where they’ll send us for the unit filming,” she said eventually, finding that she liked travelling a bit more than staying at the dorm, feeling a little bit more free than when they were stuck inside.

in a way yuzu feels bad. she knows luda is trying her best to be open and welcoming but the female can’t bring herself to open up quite yet. known to be someone who much prefers to be there for people rather than have people care for her instead, she doesn’t know how to fit into a dorm that has 90% older girls. 

so the change of topic is a welcome distraction. at least it gives her something she has easy answers to. “y’think they gon’ send us off again?” yuzu wasn’t sure how she’d feel about that. of course it’d be exciting to travel but thinking back to how she was alone in a new dorm while everyone else was touring- she would feel bad for the new girl being added next month. 

“I dunno where I’d wanna go. I’d dig headin’ back to canada but I ain’t mindin’ any place as long as it’s outside seoul,” the ex-streamer muses, stifling a yawn by pressing her lips into a thin line.

All kinds of thoughts spin around in Yoorim’s mind when she decides to approach Yuzu after practice one day, she hopes for some advice in regards of what move she should make next. Well, that’s the excuse she used anyway, though aware that she doesn’t need to mask her intentions with the other—after all, they are friends from before the project. Still, Yoorim doesn’t necessarily want to impose, and she doesn’t want to take up too much of the other’s time now that she prepares to debut.

How she wishes to soon follow Yuzu’s footsteps, and to soon prepare for her own debut. That’s why she keeps asking the other trainees, why she keeps asking the other girls who are making their official appearance for help and guidance. So far, she believes that she has made good choices in regards of picking a song for her solo performances, but this time Yoorim finds herself indecisive. “Which do you think that I should go for? Want, or Eclipse?” Straight to the point, uncharacteristically so.

She can tell the other is tense when approaching her. Yuzu expected a bit of- dare she call it jealousy- after being confirmed as a member of heartz but she’s glad that it doesn’t stop yurim from wanting to reach out for her opinion. If anything she’ll gladly help the younger girl out and give her advice in any way she’d want.

“Damn... those are both great songs... eclipse is more on the rap and vocal  heavy side, while want is more about charisma and execution, right?” Brows furrowed she ponders over the options seriously, not minding to sit down and take the time to help the girl out. She doesn’t call Yurim out for her brash approach but instead indulges her like she generally tends to do. Even if perhaps she didn’t understand the full extend of the other’s feelings, she could imagine the general gist to a point she understood to just go along with it.

“What do you reckon is something you’d like to show more?”

he spares a beat to pause the next track that automatically loops over the speakers, then he reaches for his water bottle resting on the floor, making the silent decision that it was a good time as any for a breather. it’d been a few hours with no break since he began.

“if you’re not busy with something, do you want to talk?” he pushes his sweaty hair back and turns his attention to her again, careful not to impose on her free time. jimin understands too well the desire to go home after a long and difficult day so he speaks with notable hesitance. everything he’s done since he arrived feels somehow wrong, and his chest is tight with the notion that he’ll somehow mess this up too. “feels like it’s been a while since i’ve seen you.”

she mirrors the small smile on his face because he does have a point. “touché,” she murmurs thus, closing the door behind her and walking up towards the hard working male with her fists in her hoodie pocket. there is a heavy feeling in the air however and yuzu is almost completely certain it’s not coming from her.

after all jimin had been teased to be part of kt’s new group. so why was he here?

not wanting to open that can of worms if potentially she was met with some foul stench, she instead opted to take a look around for anything else to bring up instead. “guess fate has a weird way of playin’ sometimes, eh?” 

it’s a lame phrase but it holds a lot of meaning. she’s grateful though that eventually he is the one who speaks up again and offers an invitation to talk. “I’d love that,” yuzu responds immediately, a smile widening across her lip. “feels like the last time we talked properly I was sittin’ on yer sofa, cryin’ about how a gal almost murdered me for makin’ out with her n’ then stumblin’ on my way home as I realized I had a major crush on m’good ol’ childhood pal.” just an attempt at a bit of a joke there, even if the situation itself truly had panned out like that.

To say he had a sister complex would be an understatement. It was blatantly obvious that Choi Sungmin adored his little sister. Perhaps the reason why he was so protective and clingy over his younger sister was because they grew up separately. Most siblings were raised together but the Chois had been raised by different people. Yena grew up with their parents and he with their grandparents. They had spent more time apart than together and now he was making up for lost time.

So when Yena had been announced as the new member of Heartz, well, he all but screamed. Pride filled Sungmin as he thought about his sister finally getting recognised for the talent she had. Yena was his everything and Sungmin was ready to be the embarrassing fanboy older brother.

Spying her in a practice room, Sungmin snuck up behind her and wrapped his arms around his little sister, lifting her and spinning her in the air. ❝ Are you busy? Wanna go to dinner, Yennie? ❞

Looking at her own reflection she still couldn’t believe it. Nothing about her had changed. Her face was the same, even her hair colour. Admittedly the tips looked a little more healthy after the touch up on the pastel by professionals that Yuzu wasn’t too lazy to search up and pay for. Beyond that however she was still the same old streamer gal, who somehow had managed to get a secured spot in an actual idol group.

How did she get here again?

Finding security and joy in going over the choreo for their debut song again she was so immersed in her practice that she didn’t realize Sungmin sneaking into the practice room. Only when she saw the glimmer of movement in the corner of the mirror did she spot the male. Air squeezed out of her lungs as she was picked up and twirled around, she had to release a strained noise to vocalize her discomfort from the sudden hug.

“Oppa! Please-,” the female complained, a smile tugging at her lips as he lets her down again. “I was just practicing but I guess we can go for dinner. A break may do me kinda good.”
