many of these books require trigger warnings, especially some of the older ones that are more likely to feature racial struggles of the time. please do your due diligence and search for tws if you want to read them!
please feel free to add onto this list in the rbs or comments! happy black history month

yeah sometimes it is difficult to tell good journalism from bad, but the sheer amount of denial and sycophantic behaviour when the allegations first broke was truly mind boggling to witness. no discussion no self-reflection no consideration for the victims whatsoever. just denial and lack of empathy and unhinged conspiracies.
fuck Gaiman and fuck Amanda Palmer but also fuck every rabid fan online and bootlicker in the publishing industry working double-time to cast doubt on the victims. fuck Ursula Vernon/T Kingfisher for doubting the existence of the victims in the first place and fuck the brainrotted dipshit fans crying about election interference and conspiracies. they should all be ashamed at how easily they’ll uphold rape culture and betray victims because the truth about their favourite white man is inconvenient.
I’m glad the Vulture article finally broke with irrefutable evidence. now everyone else need to take a hard look in the mirror.

*takes your face gently in my hands and looks sincerely into your eyes* listen. your home does not need to look like a showroom. homes are meant to be lived in, and that means a certain amount of mess. it's okay if there is clutter on your desk or if you don't remember the last time you cleaned your oven. mess is morally neutral. but at the same time, you deserve to live in an environment that is safe and comfortable, and that means someone has to clean sometimes. things like mold, spoiled food, and dirty litter boxes are genuine health hazards and need to be dealt with before they make someone sick. think of cleaning less as "my home needs to be completely spotless" and more as "I am an animal and I need a habitat that is free of hazardous material." it's okay. *kisses you on the forehead and tucks you into a blanket*
(and of course it is always acceptable and even good for you to ask someone else to help you with cleaning if it's physically or mentally difficult for you. even if you're paying them to do it.)

This Sept 11 marks the 50th anniversary of the US-backed coup that overthrew Chilean president Salvador Allende, the first democratically elected Marxist president in Latin America
What followed was a 17-year military dictatorship that killed, tortured, or imprisoned tens of thousands of leftists. The US had no problem supporting it. Declassified documents have proven that Nixon and Kissinger conspired to destroy Chile's economy under Allende and allow right-wing forces to oust him to prevent him from inspiring other developing countries.
I'm reading the documents now and here are some of the most heinous passages:
On the day of the coup, as the presidential palace was being bombed, Allende took his own life with an AK-47 gifted to him by Fidel Castro. This is from his last broadcast to his people:
"Workers of my country, I have faith in Chile and its destiny. Other men will overcome this dark and bitter moment when treason seeks to prevail. Go forward knowing that, sooner rather than later, the great avenues will open again and free men will walk through them to construct a better society.
Long live Chile! Long live the people! Long live the workers!
These are my last words, and I am certain that my sacrifice will not be in vain, I am certain that, at the very least, it will be a moral lesson that will punish felony, cowardice, and treason."

Someone asked ages ago but it ended up in the overcrowded swamp of my ask box but if you want to read some North Korean literature for free you can read the excerpts contained in the book “literature from the axis of evil” which is free on the internet archive and I can’t remember which story but one of them is written by a North Korean writer who is just so fucking good that even the ROK caved and gave him a literary award lol.

The Israeli army notifies new areas in the Khan Yunis area for evacuation. My family, consisting of my father, mother, and seven brothers, is located in the area south of Hamad Town, which is one of the areas that were notified of evacuation.
My family left this area and came to us to escape death. The place is not large enough and we need to buy an additional tent, and the cost of the tent is very expensive. They also need a bathroom and other needs.
Donations are allocated today and tomorrow to buy a tent and its supplies for my family. Help them provide shelter. With your support, you will relieve them of this pain. Help them, you are their great hope.

August 22/23, 2024 - Protesters ripped down police barricades and the gates of Parliament in Jakarta, forcing the Indonesian government to postpone the ratification of an election law that would strengthen the political influence of President Joko Widodo and his family. Demonstrations against the president's nepotism have been met by heavy police repression and violence, but continued into the night as militant protesters sang "Buruh Tani" - a working class anthem of solidarity and resistance against oppression. do you ever see a person and you are overcome with incredible fondness? and you just think "oh." but not in a romantic or sexual way you are just filled with warmth and it makes you happy, it just does. and you think "i'm so happy you exist. i'm happy you are somewhere out there in the world, doing your thing". it's love but also not entirely
like people are lovely and i feel it in my entire chest like a burning candle that smells like roses and a sunny day

I think it's important to note that this isn't news: it's been going on for years and no one protected these girls. They all protected him, shushing the victims. All these testimonies that are emerging online can't be part of a terf conspiracy, be for real: some of them are older, some could be fake or highly exaggerated, there's no way of knowing for sure. One thing is sure. More allegations will come. Some of these are pretty graphic so take care.

(in the reblogs there's more screenshots of testimonies from people in the publishing world and fans, there's enough proof to say this was a consistent way of behaving around young fans and workers).
