Here's the thing I feel like the majority of this fandom has forgotten. ACOTAR is a fantasy series. These characters are all fake. I don't like the characters I like because they (or I) are morally superior, I like them because of their vibes. Yes the Inner Circle has committed war crimes, yes Feyre destroyed the Spring Court, yes Rhysand did questionable things Under the Mountain, yes Azriel tortures people, yes Cassian killed people, BUT I don't care.
I don't like Feyre, Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel because they are the best morally, I like them because they are LIKEABLE. Similarly I don't dislike Tamlin and Nesta purely for their actions, I dislike them primarily because they aren't likeable. Nesta is a frosty cruel bitch, and Tamlin is a controlling angry asshole. If they were likeable characters to me I'd be perfectly happy to ignore/excuse their bad actions, but I find them insufferable so then I don't have forgiveness for their shitty actions.
I come to fiction, and especially fantasy, to have fun. The characters I like are the characters that are fun for me to read about. The characters I dislike are the characters that piss me off.
You're never going to convince me to dislike Rhysand by talking about how he sexually assaulted Feyre UTM because I know that already, but it was hot and Feyre isn't upset about it so why should I be?
You're also never going to convince me to like Nesta by talking about how all of her behavior is excused because of her trauma, because her trauma made her annoying and rude which isn't fun to read about.

90% of acotar discourse would be over in less than an hour if everyone just accepted the fact that sjm is not the best writer and most of the issues people have with certain characters are just bad writing choices not intentional character flaws
not to say you can’t hate certain characters because of the aforementioned bad writing choices. but your favorites really just come down to what bad plot points you personally can disregard or work around, and just because that’s different from someone else’s doesn’t mean you’re any better or smarter than them. insinuating people are stupid or don’t have morals because they enjoy a fictional character is insane behavior. “in acosf rhysand—“ i don’t care he’s fake. “but nesta—“ is not real either. they are FAKE PEOPLE so i will enjoy all of them i don’t give a fuck

I unironically love the ending to MCGA so much
Its so unserious
Like Magnus just straight up defeated a literal god with the power of friendship and pansexual yearning
And I love that for him
Its very on brand

"I sort fics by kudos and only kudos on stories with high kudos counts, why aren't there more stories with high kudos, I ran out of things to read." You're part of the problem.
"Authors artificially inflate comment counts by thanking people, I can't find anything with a real comment count to read." No they fucking are not, they're grateful for engagement.
"I can't read anything under 100k." That's the majority of fics you're ignoring, most novels aren't even that long.
"I don't have time to look for the incredibly rare diamond in the rough, so I won't read anything below a certain amount of kudos, comments, and hits." Those fics are popular because people gave them a chance and then snobs like you found them.
"I won't read anthing with a single typos." You made typos in that sentence, get off your high horse.
"One singular author didn't thank me for commenting, I'm never commenting on any fic again so I don't get burned." You're punishing people because someone didn't give you engagement they don't owe you that they might not have seen.
"This fic is three months old, it's so old, it doesn't matter if I comment or kudos, it's old." Fics do not have expiration dates, comment and kudos.
You're killing your fandoms with your snobbish behaviors.

This is your semi frequent reminder that there is no official AO3 app
All those are unofficial and available on the Google play store as of August 13th 2025. They mirror AO3's content and insert ads, for which the developer gets paid by page impression (that's every time the ad appears in the fic you're reading) not just clicks.
No money goes to AO3, nor to the fic writer. It goes to the person who did the bare minimum.
Many of these apps have poorly worded or non existent privacy policies, so they may also be mining as much data as possible and selling that on to unknown third parties.
Please, just use the official AO3 site and the browser.

an interesting linguistics find! so I'm reading this text from 1908 and it keeps referencing "hp" in the context of "not being at full hp" "applying your full hp to a task" etc
and I'm like....... okay that is a perfectly normal way to describe energy and reads totally clear to me, but I KNOW you don't mean hit points/health points which is the first place my brain goes, so what are YOU using hp to mean
and it's not explained in-text, which means it was common enough to not warrant explanation to the 1908 audience, so gotta look elsewhere
horsepower. turns out it's horsepower.
and I'm absolutely FASCINATED that a commonly used initialism from 1908 now stands for something different AND YET the contextual meaning is still the same to a 21st-century reader
I could hand this guy my nintendo switch and he'd be like, ah yes I understand, this ''''pokemon'''' loses horsepower throughout the fight
language is amazing

The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...
Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?

there's a jewish story about a rich man who goes to his rabbi to ask him about building an orphanage, and the rabbi is like "yeah duh go for it!!" and then later the rich guy comes back and is like "actually I've decided not to... I was just doing it for my own image and not coz I cared about orphans" and the rabbi was like "bitch the orphans don't care why you're building the orphanage!!!" and sometimes I wish I could say that to lefties who haven't unpacked their christian upbringing. sometimes motives don't matter!! who give a fuck why a politician wants to do a good thing? bitch the orphans don't!!
