anyone else extremely nostalgic for the now-forgotten types of stories where Angst and Edgy Teenagers, and so much drama. does that even make sense. do you get me

the thing that's so annoying about ao3 hate (hate, not criticism, to be extra fucking clear) is that it's pretty much always from people who simply seem to not realise how good we have it right now

like. ao3 is vital to the fandom economy. it's basically the Library of Alexandria, but for fanfiction- it has preserved so much fanfiction history, and argue all you want, but that stuff is important to people

and without ao3, we wouldn't have a home. like, ao3 is for fans, by fans, and yes, it's not flawless by any means, but it's still built by people who get it and are passionate about this hobby. there was not any other place like that! there still isn't any other place quite like it!

when people posted on livejournal, they got their stuff deleted. same thing with FF.NET, and now Wattpad, and who knows where else- but ao3 is not going to do that. like, do you get that? do you genuinely understand how important that is, to fandom history?

there is no other website where i can be a 100% certain that my stuff won't be deleted, other than ao3. but ao3 is about preservation, and sure, authors can delete their own work, but ao3 is not going to do that

like. i genuinely don't think the haters understand this. ao3 is a fucking pillar, and as someone who remembers the time before it, i'm thankful for it every fucking day
