Chapter 58 💛, tricks and good deeds~
[Zelda kneels and cradles an injured fairy in her hands. Artistic rays of light react around her as she channels her power. The style is very simplistic, with minimal shading and lighting.]

The Demon Queen on AO3
Summary: Seven years after the fall of the Demon Dragon and return of the Princess, Link and Zelda have disappeared from the throne and the world’s stage, choosing quiet love in their hillside Hateno home over the burden of royalty in a kingdom that seems content in its peace.
But in Hyrule, harmony is never permanent, and power is never left unattended.
Ganondorf returns, not with fire and war, but with strategy, influence, and a bloodless coup. The Hero vanishes without a trace. The Princess is claimed not as a prisoner, but as his Queen. Draped in silks, paraded like a jewel, Zelda finds herself back in her castle, with her crown restored, and her body playing host to a storm she’s denied for lifetimes.
As whispers rise from the Depths and ancient secrets claw to the surface, Zelda must confront a new Hyrule, the choices she once buried, and the man whose darkness is no longer her enemy but her shadow, her partner, her match, and above all, the one desire she'd been sure she could hide from the eyes of eternity.
Today's Update: Chapter 13
Three months have passed since we last saw the New Monarchy, and with a Hero still out on the loose, Zelda and Ganondorf are both fraying around the edges. No one is safe (least of all new teapots).

“It’s hard to know what I should be most concerned with, when you’ve kept everything from me,” she said, his irritation heady in the air, a fume making the words light off her tongue. “It doesn’t seem that I’m even allowed in here with how heavily it’s guarded. I seldom see you and we speak even less. My only indication that the world I knew exists out there in some form is because I can’t smell smoke,” she declared, her sleeve fluttering as she threw her arm toward the window, her slippered foot slamming into the marble, adrenaline buffering the blunt pain that throbbed through her toe. “For three months I’ve shuffled through the same wing of the castle like an exotic bird you’re training for show. If I’m so inconsequential to your reign, why have me here at all? Why make the effort to convince me that I wanted you or this captivity…or is that what you need, to hear me say I want it before you take it away?” Out of her periphery she could see the eyes of the guards widening while Ganondorf’s shrank into simmering fractures. “Why don’t you just frame me and tack me up in the archive with all the other treasure you’ve won in your coup?”

Chapter 57, Sparks fly ✨
Sorry for the day late post! I wanted to do so much more with this particular art and I feel like I could work on it for weeks and still not be where I want it to be— so here! I’m letting it go! 🤭 You didn’t miss any art for Chapter 56, it was a teeny, tiny, mini letter interlude~
[Princess Zelda and King Ganondorf share a private dance. One that devolves into something more fun than Hyrulian proper dances allow. His heavy robe is golden with golden threads, and his jewelry is adorned with emerald jewels. Zelda’s “armor” does little to weigh down her purple dress as she’s moved over the dance floor. Her circlet and corset boast pristine diamonds, and her adornments almost glow in the dim light.]
[Close ups of the above image. Their faces on the left, and lower bodies on the right.]

I need a fanfiction of Ganondorf and zelda having a political marriage to try to change their fates. I need the drama, the politics, the manipulation and heartache TwT but I suck at writing.

“Very well.” Impa came to stand where Zelda could see her easily, and Link moved to the far wall, eyes downcast. “Captain Sia claims she was paid by King Ganondorf to murder the Hyrulian royal family.”
Zelda thought her capacity for emotion had been depleted, but she found she was very, very wrong. A deep, terrible chill ran through her, dragging misery and doubt with it.
“That’s a lie,” she whispered, even as a piece of her heart shattered.

Chapter 55, in which the blame falls to Ganondorf for the attempt on the King's life. What will Zelda do? Read and find out!

Shade of My Enemy, Vol 2, Bare, page 98
In which the Princess speaks oh-so-softly…
I enjoy this light rendering style even though it’s a bit unforgiving. The calligraphic line is almost always a feature of my work but when paring down to as few as possible to let light fill the image, it’s tough to resist the temptation to rework - or overwork.
Fun fact: the background pattern is the linework for the front of the dower chest we’ve seen a few times now (and will again in volume 3 and 5 for certain. 4 is still having its script adjusted) I wrote a little more about the making of the chest in King of Shadows on Ao3. The prose version of SoME (also on Ao3) is now just two chapters behind these pages and gives us an opportunity to be inside Gan’s brooding head when we see the chest, and also to see it fresh through Zelda’s eyes.
Thursday posting has resumed at long last. Volume 3 is clipping along in production rather more slowly than it used to, but it is going at all, which is a small victory in itself. Note that the story will always be free to read online, whether a new page on Patreon or tumblr, or the prose conversion on Ao3 under the same title. The collected pages in order and by volume are available to all members (even free level) on Patreon.
Thanks for reading-!

“That’ll have to wait,” came Impa’s voice as she materialized near the doorway, arms crossed, her expression unreadable behind her mask. “The trade party has returned. There’s a surprise waiting for you, though I can’t promise it’s a pleasant one.”
Dread curled low in Zelda’s stomach. She turned and ran from the training room, thoughts spiraling over each other faster than she could keep up. What had happened? Had Ganondorf discovered their spies and retaliated? Had someone been hurt or worse, killed? Had the entire mission gone catastrophically wrong? Were they to be at war with the Gerudo?
Oh Goddess, there were too many possibilities and she–
Zelda stopped at the entrance of the courtyard, staring at the wagon in disbelief.
There, sitting shackled at the front of the trade wagon, was Link. Looking thoroughly sheepish, he gave her a small, guilty wave. The moment her face fell, he tried to shrink into his hat, as if hoping he could somehow disappear.
Several new rings decorated his ears, and Zelda prayed to every deity that could possibly be listening that he hadn’t stolen Gerudo Gold straight from the desert.
Captain Sia approached from the wagon, her posture rigid, expression grim. In her hands was a key, which she offered to Zelda without a word. She reached for it, only for a jolt of cold to shoot through her fingers the moment they brushed Sia’s skin, like a visceral chill that laced straight through her heart.
What in the–
“King Ganondorf wanted him delivered straight to you, Your Highness,” Sia said, distracting Zelda from the odd sensation.
She wanted to bury her face in her hands and groan. Maybe scream at Link a little. Instead, she swallowed hard, tamping down the slow burn of fury beginning to build in her chest. Link would certainly hear about it later, but for now, she had to remain calm and in control.
“Tell me everything, please.”

Chapter 53 is up! Zelda is not pleased to find that Link went to the desert again, but there's something else going on here too...

Super quick Zelgan sketch. I’m pondering a moment before the whole destined to be enemies thing hasn’t kicked in yet, but they’re still drawn together
