What is NEMT?

NEMT is an acronym for Non-emergency medical transportation.

(NEMT) includes transportation services offered to patients and healthcare consumers who face extraordinary barriers getting to their medical appointments. 

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) covers all transportation services provided to patients not in an emergency situation or in need of an ambulance. 

NEMT is most often utilized by eligible Medicaid and Medicare members requesting a ride to their medical appointment or the pharmacy. From lack of driver’s license or working vehicle or geographic isolation, there are many potential reasons for patients to need NEMT.

Zenith NEMT manages all modes of non-emergency medical transportation, including:

– Ambulatory curb-to-curb: rides for patients who are capable of meeting their driver on the curb, getting in and out of the car unassisted, and walking into their appointment. Zenith NEMT partners with Uber and has dispatched over 2 million curb-to-curb rideshare trips for members— no smartphone needed.

– Ambulatory door-to-door: rides for patients who need help getting from their home or medical appointment to and from the car.

– Wheelchair: rides for wheelchair patients in vehicles with special equipment for accessibility and safety accommodations.

– Gurney: rides for patients who have limited mobility or require a stretcher in vehicles with specialized systems and equipment.

– Bariatric Gurney: rides in a vehicle modified to accommodate and safely transport patients who weigh between 350 and 1,200 pounds.
