TW: mentions of p3d*ph1lia, ray-cism in black butler, proshipper/anti discourse
saying this as a black butler fan:
black butler fans who act like kuro isn’t a deeply problematic piece of media are …. very, very strange.
the p3d0b4it is there. the fanservice is there. the racism is there. and there’s no excuse. it’s deeply gross, and always be gross, to depict children and child-adult relationships the way yana toboso does in some of her art.
if you disagree, you either lack the critical analysis skills to see it for yourself or you don’t want to admit that a piece of media you like is harmful because it’s inconvenient.
nobody benefits from engaging with media uncritically. i love so many things about kuro and it’s ultimately my favorite piece of media, but i don’t lie to myself or anyone else about the fact that it has some extremely harmful implications and ultimately contributes to a culture that thrives off of the sexualization of minors and racist depictions of minority groups. that would be dishonest and antithetical to how media messaging works. because fiction DOES affect reality.
i don’t support making someone feel guilty solely for a piece of media they enjoy (nor do i think it’s a productive way to go about media analysis), but it does reflect on your character if you’re unwilling to recognize and acknowledge the harm the media you consume does.
