Aziraphale doesn’t need to be saved. He never has. He gave away his flaming sword and lied to God's face. He tricked Heaven once again to save three kids. He claims to be soft, but he is anything but. He stood with his flaming sword facing Satan. He stood with a dumb candelabra facing a horde of demons to save his bookshop and protect humans. He is absolutely capable of getting out of any situation. But oh, how Crowley loves to save him.

"...and yet you're totally certain that everything would be better if you were just near one particular person."
I recently saw a post there, saying that most likely something happened between these two in between 1941 and 1967, probably right after the church scene... so... I was thinking over about it...

Hold Fast, Break Slow
Chapter 15: Holdfast
“Are you alright, Crowley?” Aziraphale hadn’t moved, hands still at his sides, but he looked as though he was barely holding back. “Stop asking me that!” The angel shrunk at the words, and Crowley immediately wanted to curl inward as a tendril of shame wrapped its way around the base of his throat. “I’m so sorry, Crowley, you have to understand-” Crowley didn’t let him finish; anger—that wasn’t really anger—seized his tongue. “Oh, really?” He laughed, mirthless, loud, cruel. “That’s funny. That’s really fucking funny, Aziraphale because I don’t understand. Not even a little bit. Because here I was thinking everything in my life was some sick fucking joke of the universe. Which was fine, by the way,” he added. “It was fine. It didn’t matter. I learned… I-” Crowley exhaled shakily. “But then you come along and make me think... you make me think that I... that maybe it isn’t all my fault.” He shook his head, blood rushing loudly behind his ears. “But it is, isn’t it? It’s my fault. Not even me, but... and how the hell is that fair? Because some guy 6,000 years ago wandered onto God’s private property and got trespassed literally forever, I have to feel like this? I have to... and then I think, I think, well, at least God is real, and there’s some good that can come of that. But then Heaven is some red-tape-filled fluorescent shitshow, and you…” Crowley trailed off, not for any sense of profoundness but because he was quite literally out of air.

“We are here, and this is now.” Constable Visit, a strict believer in the Omnian religion, occasionally quoted that from their holy book. Vimes understood it to mean, in less exalted copper speak, that you have to do the job that is in front of you.

At this point, I wouldn't be mad if we just got 90min of domestic fluff. No plot, no explanation of how we ended up here, just South Downs domestic bliss.
