does anyone have that quote that goes something like 'white germans under the nazis lived just fine as long as they were loyal to the state, gave their children to the army, and paid their taxes, and in this sense many americans would be comfortable living under fascism' trying to find who said it but google is giving me jack shit

trying to trick myself into staying sober by pretending it's this hot new drug. It makes you really present, man. You can really feel all your emotions and you can think about anything you want. It also makes you super productive and it makes the day feel waaaaay longer it's wild you've gotta try it

Vivian Rubiyanti Iskandar is the first trans person in Indonesia to obtain legal recognition of gender. She is of Chinese descent and was born in 1944. Vivian is a businesswoman who owned a beauty salon, and a number of her apprentices became household names in the Indonesian beauty industry.
She starts transitioning in 1973, by undergoing gender confirmation surgery at Singapore. She would be 29 years old at the time. Afterward, she returned to Indonesia and petitioned for a legal change of gender. This happens before Indonesians have a law nor legal precedents concerning legal changes of gender.
Despite that, notable expert witnesses in her case argue in favor of her gender reassignment. Theologian and reverend Eka Darmaputera argued "according to the Christian faith, God [wanted] human beings to be happy in their [lives]" while The Islamic scholar Buya Hamka also testified in support of Vivian, saying that "[her desire to transition] does not run contrary to Allah's law, but in keeping with the teachings of Islam, which hold the advances of humankind's science ought to be used to improve the lives of human beings"
As a result, the presiding judge granted Vivian's petition, and as of November 11, 1973, she was legally recognised by the Indonesian state as a woman. Vivian's case has become a landmark one in Indonesian jurisprudence, being cited in similar future decisions as regards a legal change of gender. Her story was later made into a movie called "Akulah Vivian" in 1977. As of me writing this, she is still alive at the age of 80 years old, living in Australia.

If you have achieved something, please remember to observe a mandatory period of basking in the warm glow of your achievement like a lizard on a stone, lest you teach your brain that effort is futile, actually, because it didn't get to enjoy its happy chemicals, so, naturally, nothing good ever comes of trying. (And no, avoiding punishment is not a reward!)
I recommend, like, 5% of basking time in relation to whatever time you invested into achieving the thing minimum. And if you can't make your own bask, friend-brought is fine (= tell your friends!).

You know, with all the trouble over the live action Snow White remake and how long it's actually taken to make it, it would have been the perfect opportunity for another studio to make a film about Adriana Caselotti, who voiced Snow White but wasn't even told she was working on a full length film and only realised it at the premiere, was paid only $970 (roughly $21,217 in 2024) for the job, wasn't credited for the role and basically had her career in films ruined before it even started, because dear old Walt Disney refused to let her take other roles: 'I'm sorry, but that voice can't be used anywhere. I don't want to spoil the illusion of Snow White.'

Honestly I think one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself is to separate your negative qualities from your identity.
Instead of saying “I’m lazy,” saying “I’ve made a habit of not doing work unless it’s absolutely necessary.” Instead of saying “I’m a bad friend,” saying “I haven’t communicated as much as I should with the people I care about.”
By being specific about your problems, and by framing it as an action that you are consciously either working on or ignoring rather than an unchangeable part of who you are, you allow yourself to accept your mistakes and work constructively on them instead of pretending they didn’t happen or wallowing in blaming yourself.

Ms. Brosser's Oral Care FAQ
In this post I have compiled a number of common questions I get. This is a work in progress. It's really just added to as topics seem to come up. You can always find this linked in my pinned post in case you need to refer back.
Q: Is there a proper order for brushing and flossing?
A: here
Q: how long should I brush my teeth for?
A: here
Q: I haven't brushed and/or flossed in a long time and now my gums are bleeding
A: here
Many more under the cut.
Q: how to get started flossing?
A: Good clear basic info about flossing from Healthline, starter flossing advice from me, YouTube vid with the basics, using a floss pick to get the best clean
Q: how do I go about flossing with a permanent retainer in?
A: here are options, and here's also another floss for it
Q: what are your thoughts on water flossers?
A: start the rabbit hole here, their effectiveness, great video by a hygienist on what to look for and how best to use it
Q: how much fluoride should I be looking for in a toothpaste?
A: here, more info here about what fluoride is and why it's useful
Q: Any advice for if I have a cavity but can't do anything about it right now (no funds for dentist or ability to get there, etc.)
A: Info here on how you can self care and make sure to keep the cavity from getting bigger.
Q: what if I don't like mint?
A: my answer will always be to go raid the children's section in the dental aisle. There's no shame in using kids products. Just check the fluoride content to be sure you're getting enough fluoride and you're good. You can also check the toothpaste tag on my pinned post and see what toothpastes I've reviewed. I more or less only use non mint toothpastes.
Q: What if I have a terrible gag reflex?
A: Check this post and see if any of those suggestions help.
Q: what's the point of mouthwash?
A: here
Q: how soon before or after eating should I brush my teeth?
A: here
Q: vomiting and oral care
A: here

June 14th 2025
117,35 kg, exactly 5 and a half months post partum. Conceived with 106 .. and got it all back and more. Feeling mostly like shit because of it.
It's very scary to be almost 40 kg away from your goal, and yet I'm very grateful for my body for giving me my baby. I'm aware that with ulcerative colitis and the fact that it was a ascarry pregnancy.. also I'm still nursing and am not allowed to follow some strict diet and my appetite is high.. but damn it's playing with my head.
look amazing to myself but not being able to do some stuff with my body, getting windy fast .. I'm not really feeling well in it, and kind of very fast my body became a stranger to me. And especially with my baby I wanna be stronger and more fit for her. I wanna be able to run after her and not almost die getting out of breath
Started rope jumping to 100, everyday after our daily family walk. Let's see how consistent I'll be.
DAY1 ✅
