Day 7 – An Oliphant is a type of horn made from an elephant’s tusk and is the name of Roland’s famous horn. In the epic, The Song of Roland, the Oliphant is what Roland uses to call for aid when the Franks are ambushed by the Saracens and it is the mighty blast from the horn which ultimately kills Roland (it cracks his temple!). The oliphant shown here is not Roland’s but it does comes from Charlemagne’s treasury at his chapel in Aachen, Germany.

I was upset at first that Fate/Extella Link made left of all things into Charlemagne’s design.

But then today they announced right, Ruler-class Karl der Große. Saber Charlemagne is the fictional character who led the Twelve Paladins (including Astolfo), Ruler Karl is the real historical Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
