“This doesn’t concern him,” Misty says, dismissing it as if Walter is the last thing she wants to talk about.
Nat snorts in amusement. She isn’t sure whether that statement comes from Misty not registering that what they were doing is actually cheating…or if she simply doesn’t give enough of a fuck about Walter to care.
Nat survives the fentanyl and gets a front row seat to Misty’s relationship with Walter. So naturally…she starts having sex with her.

my favourite thing about the Yellowjackets is that they are found family but like. fucked up found family. messy found family. like an actual family.
Tai went completely against Nat's wishes by prosecuting Ben, but still pays for her rehab years later and FIVE TIMES no less. Shauna has an entire separate phone with Tai's number saved in it, even though we know that Tai did not fw the Antler Queen shenanigans.
Misty was the main reason that the girls were stuck in the woods in the first place, but Nat isn't even all that hostile to her in the adult tl. she was just kinda playing with her with the gun at the beginning— and Misty knew. she smiled. all the girls tried to kill Nat, but she's almost certainly the most liked among the survivors.
Lottie kept an eye on Natalie years later, even though Natalie was the one who was most against the Wilderness bullshit going on, who tried to deter and berate her at every turn. she saved her life. Travis had Lottie's number too and as we know, she did some seriously messed up shit to him and he tried to literally kill her.
as much as she protested, Shauna did ultimately let Lottie stay at her home with her teenage daughter— and we know that Shauna can put her foot down when she wants to. (not to mention the Lottieshauna beating scene?) Van went back in to save Melissa. she absolutely did not have to.
they're all people with broken moral compasses and their relationships with each other are incredibly messed up— but they're nuanced and deep and at their core, loving. Misty was right. they had an intimate bond no one could understand.

“I apologize if this sounds rude but…what exactly are you? Some sort of angel or um…devil taking Natalie’s form? I’m not knowledgeable in what’s meant to happen after you die…”
“Misty,” teenage Natalie says. She sounds and looks kind of amused now. “No, I’m not an angel or a devil. It’s really me.”
Misty dies and a reunion is made

“No one else is here,” Nat says. “Now, mind telling me why you’re acting so weird? What’s with the secrecy?”
Shauna gives in, letting go of her tense stance with a shrug to her shoulders. She bites her lower lip lightly. “I have a favor to ask you.”
Nat gives a pointed look as if to say spit it out already.
Shauna sighs roughly and closes her eyes for a moment, as if preparing herself for what she’s about to say.
“I need you to date Misty. Or at least pretend to.”
When Jackie’s parents tell her that she isn’t allowed to date anyone until Misty Quigley does, Shauna decides to take drastic measures.

I love reading fanfics where one character is tagged as jealous, but their partner is unlovable to anyone but them. Like.. calm down, sweetheart, no one wants your man. We're still trying to figure out why you want your man.

all mistynat fics from thedevilsgarden
should probably make a new post about this so it can show up in the tag, but i made a post a couple months ago with links to 8 deleted mistynat fics i was able to find from thedevilsgarden but last night i found a link on reddit from someone that was somehow able to find even more and upload them.
so here's a google drive link of epub files of 30+ deleted yj fics from thedevilsgarden. there's fics for other ships in there too (a few jackie/nat, some jackie/misty, a mistynat/jackie one and a long ass jackie/shauna with side mistynat) but i'm pretty sure all of their mistynat fics are there and ready for you to read, including part 3 of the stranded series (deprivation) and the first two parts of the age gap fic (a place to run and hide & ready to suffer, ready to hope) i posted in my original post. if you can't get epub files to open on whatever device you use, just convert them to pdfs like i did, and you can do that by googling how to and you'll get a bunch of sites that'll do it :)

Low-key me whenever I remember we’re never getting more adult mistynat
Tumblr media
(I am excited to see what they do with teen mistynat after how S3 ended, don’t get me wrong. But adult mistynat…there’s no replacing them I fear 😞)

what if you spent your entire life yearning for something that was never real and i spent my entire life mourning something i never had. you were the worst of it to me and i was the best of it to you. i blame you for everything that's ever gone wrong in my life and you worship me for never hating you for it. you saved my life and i hated myself for it but you still managed to make me laugh. it's been us at the beginning and the shift and the end. you’re my purpose, my guiding light. i watched as you were born into the person you are today. you held me as i died in your arms. you would carve yourself into me before you’d ever let me go. and we were both girls

Someone should write a horror/slasher mistynat fic
Like, maybe it’s sometime post-rescue and the masked killer is targeting the Yellowjackets for whatever reason (perhaps a relative of one of the frog researchers?) Anyway, it gets personal for Nat because Travis is the killer’s first victim and then later on she has a close encounter with the killer (but manages to escape and survive).
She contacts everyone else and says that she believes whoever killed Travis and tried to kill her is the same person and that they’re all being potentially targeted. She wants to find out who it is so she can stop them and avenge Travis. Misty of course is the most willing to both believe her suspicions, and play detective to help her take down the killer. So Nat ends up reluctantly teaming up with her.

This fic is soooo good and hasn’t gotten a lot of hits yet.
An adult Mistynat AU that has A+ characterization. I’m so looking forward to seeing where it goes

It served my mistynat agenda well for Misty to be the only one majorly effected by Nat’s death but it really should have been more of a wide-spread thing amongst all of the Yellowjackets. Especially since S3 really hammered in what adult Taissa meant in S1 when she said “we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her”. Like, why was Misty the only spiraling about Nat being dead?
And then the aftermath of Lottie’s death was treated like a comedy at points. The only ones who seemed to give a fuck were Shauna (that scene with her in Lottie’s old bedroom talking to her father was really profound…but still only one scene) and Misty (though with her, you could even argue that her investigating Lottie’s death had something to do with her grief over Nat-trying to recreate the time the two of them investigated Travis’ death).
Taissa’s reaction to Van’s death was heartbreaking but I’m sure she’ll be the only one to grieve her at all in S4.
It’s just like…these women have all known each other since they were teenagers (possibly even longer) and they went through something profoundly traumatic together. Can we let them show emotion when one of them dies?

Shauna is the unreliable narrator of Yellowjackets, and nothing better exemplifies this role than Shauna’s perception of Misty and Natalie in the adult timeline. The way Shauna treats Misty and Natalie offers a clear window into how she truly feels (or doesn’t let herself feel) about herself.
Throughout Season 1 especially, Shauna paints Misty as the dangerous psychopath and Natalie as the messy, reckless liability. And, at first, we as the audience believe her. We think Misty is the most unhinged, the most dangerous (she killed that reporter, she’s been obsessively stalking the other survivors, she’s definitely committing elder abuse on a regular basis). We think Natalie is the most unstable and chaotic (she’s addicted to drugs, she’s on a relentless hunt for the blackmailers, she’s lashing out at the others). But the more we see Shauna’s arc in the wilderness unfold in its entirety, the more scenes like Shauna admonishing Nat for trying to shoot the blackmailer or telling Misty she’s an “insane psycho” in 3x03 become ridiculously hypocritical.
Misty becomes the stand-in for Shauna’s capacity for violence. Natalie becomes the mirror for her shame and emotional instability. Adult Shauna lives in elaborate denial. She has compartmentalized so much of what happened in the wilderness that she needs someone like Misty (or Lottie) to carry the burden of “crazy” for her. She needs Natalie to be the “damaged one,” the “mess,” so she can stay wrapped in the illusion of normalcy. In reality, while there’s no denying Misty is unhinged and Natalie is reckless, the way Shauna views them is a lot more about her own projected traits than their’s. Shauna is targeting the same traits in Misty and Nat that she is most afraid of within herself.
By the end of Season 3, the protective facade Shauna has spent decades maintaining finally begins to collapse. With Callie and Jeff gone (the family she performed normalcy for), she’s stripped of the roles that once kept her darkness in check. She’s no longer afraid of herself or what she’s capable of. She no longer needs to project her buried impulses onto others, and she embraces her past role as the Antler Queen and the violence, instability, and recklessness that come with it.

it’s funny bc i don’t think anyone’s ever watched season 1 of yellowjackets, watched Natalie struggle to really know if she should trust Misty or not and wondered why she struggles so much. It’s Misty, of course she doesn’t trust her. we’ve seen all the crazy shit she does, some of which Nat is aware of, and Misty can’t hide her true nature very well, why should Nat trust her?
and then, with season 3, it’s like OH! she knows. she knows that Misty destroyed the ‘transponder’. she knows better than anyone, really, just how far Misty’s desires to be needed, wanted and a part of the group will take her. especially when it’s met with how impulsive she is because she doesn’t think about the consequences of what she’s doing might be. Misty is willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, it doesn’t matter who the fuck she hurts. it’s a gamble if she’ll even feel guilty about it. Nat should more than just struggle to trust her, she should hate her. and yet, Natalie is Natalie and Misty is Misty. Misty helps her out sometimes and she gets really excited when Nat shows up places and she does look really pretty that time they needed her to help hide a body. so. you know.
