So I started working last week! I'm working halftime in my old school making videos for teachers, the other halftime I'm animating on a super cool project! But that means, 'real' life is happening, and I don't have that much time left to draw.

BUT it's #inktober so I'll try to do at least some drawings once in a while. I have bought new ink last month, so I might as well put it to the test!

THE NEW FILM IS FINALLY HERE!

Last week, my new film Dear Son got finished.  It’s been a huge relief that after a year of hard work and with the help from some amazing people, I was able to make such a great short film.  I can say that I’m very proud of what the film has become, and it’s been a great project to work on. It’s been hard of course, but totally worth it. Sorry for the ones who want to see the film though - it’s not online yet! First, I want to try and take on some filmfestivals and see what happens! A teaser of the film will be there soon though, so keep posted!

So I drew this guy as part of the Character Design Challenge that is going on this month, theming African Tribes. I normally don’t join the competition, since character design isn’t really my jam. But I got some inspiration out of nowhere, and this fun guy appeared!

He is named Gizo-gizo (meaning spider in Hausa), for when he was born he already had those long and pointy limbs.  His favourite weapon is his beloved spear. He had to grow into it ofcourse, but that didn’t take long.

Inbetween all the rough animation, I found a little bit of time to sketch. In class we were posing for each other, as there was no model today. Made with pastel on a piece of paper that is marble coloured.

Long time since I’ve last posted, long time since I’ve last sketched! My master project is demanding sooo much time. 

At one point I even stopped carrying my sketchbook with me all the time, but for an unexplained reason I took it with me today, and with succes!!  I’ve found some sketch time today while waiting outside on a bench, and even just this tiny bit of sketching made me happy!

My short stop motion showreel for you to see!

This weekend I dug up some of my old Stop Motion animations.

I wanted to make a showreel since I was going to meet some animation studios from Belgium at a job fair, and wanted to be able to also show some Stop Motion work, besides the 2D (and a little bit of 3D) work.  So yeah, the animations are ‘old’, dating from before 2016, but it feels like yesterday when I was animating them! 

Time really flies... Since a lot of the stuff was made in my first year of animation studies, and I’m now already in my master year! The job fair I went to, really is the start of many solicitations to come, since from September on, I have to start working! I have one studio that i really want to work (again), so fingers crossed they have an opening for me starting from September ;)

Started animating on my Master Film “En Zoon”! (“And Son” in English) And I love it! Still got some backgrounds to do, but I wanted to take a break from that.  Also, I could not wait to share this!

Chit-Chatter is now available online!

You can watch my film Chit-Chatter from start to end here, yay! Enjoy ;) Why have I put it online, you say? I haven’t myself, it’s for a competition: My film Chit-Chatter is selected for the Audience Award of Short Of The Year! To win, it must get the most views until April 21st 2018. The prize is being able to send the film to 100 film festivals for free, which would be a big help! (Filmfestival can cost a lot of money, even just to submit your film without knowing it will get selected)

But even, the prize is not what is most important to me (also, I never win audience-voted competitions haha). I find it more important that people see my film and that they enjoy it :) So somewhere after this competition ends, I’ll put my film online for an indefinite time.  For now, enjoy the film here. - Aagje

Experimenting in Photoshop for my master film “And Son”. I really love to push my boundaries and look for interesting colours and atmospheres.  I did not know where I would end up , starting at this background. I just had a rough layout, and knew I was going to experiment with blue-ish colours.  This came up, and I’m quite pleased. I’ll definitely explore this type of backgrounds for the film! And I couldn’t wait to share this with you all! :)
