It's been proved time and time again that this fandom cannot accept that the batfam member have complex relationship outside of being adopted family. Literally ANYTIME I try to talk about Bruce and Tim's relationship or Bruce and Dick's relationship I get someone going "but they ARE adopted family in canon!" okay so now yall care about canon?

Fr though, 99% sure that Bruce and Dick's relationship only officially became adopted family because Devin Grayson (meaning in the 90s or 2000s?) thought wardship was outdated (I mean she was right! but I still don't like the decision. Also this is also based off like. a part of an interview I skimmed, so could be totally wrong lolol). Bruce and Dick have been a lot more than only father/son. Brothers. Best friends. I just kinda hate putting them in a singular box. And Tim was only adopted in what, the 2000s? Pretty sure at this point he's been adopted longer than he wasn't, but that doesn't erase the time Bruce called himself Tim's "Friend and mentor" and not Tim's father.

Don't even get me started on Duke. Duke just isn't Bruce's adopted son. Duke was (past tense WAS) Bruce's foster kid. For, to my knowledge, A PRETTY SHORT TIME! I feel like treating him like he's canonically Bruce's son is pretty disrespectful to his cousin and HIS MOM. Duke literally does have a non-biological father! Doug! I promise Bruce and Duke have a fun relationship and I promise it's not father/son. Also people who treat Steph likes she was adopted and/or (more rarely) treat Babs like she was.... that, to me, just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the characters. Write all the AUs and fanfic you want! But stop acting like it's canon these three are his kids.

So many of yall love bringing up and analyzing reconned things through the lens of if they were still canon (which is great! keep it up!) So please let people explore batfam relationships pre-adoption. So many of yall love AUs where Bruce adopted more kids (which is great! I'm not dissing your fanfiction!) So please let people have AUs where Bruce adopted less kids!

I'm just getting so sick and tired of people acting like I'm disrespecting adopted families by exploring complex relationships for characters who LITERALLY HAVE complex relationships.

it’s so funny when you watch a show or play a game where you know the fandom is super hype about a ship and you’re like “there’s no way they are actually like that™” but then you consume that media and are like “holy shit how did the fandom undersell how fucking gay these losers are”

i cannot get the idea out of my head of Tim pulling a peter parker at the end of no way home, making everyone forget him

the mechanics of the whole forgetting spell are a bit messy at some points but consider

- Bruce forgetting his son, forgetting everything Tim did to pull him out of his grieving spiral after Jason’s death

- Jason forgetting his replacement, would he think he was never replaced? would his and Bruce’s relationship be better without Tim in the picture? Tim’s impact of helping bruce out of his grief without the downside of the “replacing” aspect could lead to a somewhat better relationship for them (obviously Jason would still be upset at the whole Joker is still alive thing but this does eliminate one big issue for them)

- Tim having to watch his family from afar, seeing them be potentially happier without him

- Tim has lost so many of the people he cares about through them dying, but losing everyone else through them forgetting him honestly might be worse because he’s grieving people who are alive, people who are in the public eye so he cant get away from hearing about them

- Not only would he lose every single person he cares about, not only would he have to watch them be potentially happier from afar, but his entire life is uprooted. He’s not Ceo anymore, he’s not the Tim Drake anymore, he’s not even Red Robin anymore

i just feel like if the circumstances were right, he would definitely be willing to make that sacrifice to be forgotten, but the aftermath is just so awful and everything is ripped away from him (that’s not even discussing if he is with Bernard or someone else at this point, losing them too)

i think he would see Wayne galas and such on the news and want to rip his own heart out

i think he’d make a new vigilante identity and be extremely closed off to everyone else because seeing them and seeing the blank, no recognition, look in his family’s, his friend’s, his team’s eyes would destroy him.

but i don’t think he could stay a civilian, i think if he had nothing to do, no one to save, he’d lose it even more than he already has
