had a long break from reading Ruin and Rising (because I hate Mal so much) and just one chapter in after my break I'm more reinforced in my hatred for him and his relationship with Alina. Not to mention the amplifiers make no sense to me, the plot twist i guess? of Mal being the amplifier makes no sense to me and is just there for a sappy love story that maybe maybeeee would work if he wasn't a character with zero development and if he didn't treat Alina like shit in the last book and if she wasn't so hopelessly in love with a man who refused to accept her being Grisha and now is gonna play a hero because he needs to be sacrificed. ugh I'm really just finishing it for the sake of finishing and so I can have a good understanding of the story to read about Nikolai

i need pepple to understand that in the first place leather has always been made from the byproducts of butchering animals for meat, otherwise the skin is just tossed and unused. there were some companies farming for leather for a while, particuarly alligator leather, but those were not the norm. peta did so much harm in their campaigns against leather as a concept (its not unethical. yoi get the skin when an animal dies. thats why most leather clothes in the usa are cow leather, bc thats the biggest meat animal here) that its almost impossible to buy anything "leather" that isnt made of plastic that it so fragile and shitty that the very Thread Holding It Together rips the fibers apart. it will last for maybe a year two if youre lucky, and wont biodegrade and was made out of something that isnt naturally occurring in the first place and is one of the biggest causes of pollution globally

reading Ruin and Rising and it genuinely still baffles me how much more chemistry there is between Alina and Nikolaj than Alina and Mal

but again maybe it's just because every time I have to read Mal speaking I want to throw the book into the nearest wall

I am genuinely not advocating for a return to queerbait tv, I was vocally against it the whole time it was happening that was like my whole shtick for a while but it is kind of wild that when gay people weren’t allowed on tv, gay characters (who weren’t allowed to be gay) would be drinking poison for each other and killing bad guys for each other romantically and offering to go to prison in each other’s place and now that we are allowed to have gay people on tv…gay people will just be having a healthy conversation and going going on a date like normal people. people really just walk into horror movies and expect them not to deal with uncomfortable things despite the genre being dedicated to discomfort.

i saw so many people complain that lisa frankenstein, a movie where one of the leads is famously a rotting corpse, was too gross for them. when i walked out of nosferatu, i heard people say that the nudity was uncalled for... in a vampire film. nudity? in MY gothic horror?! unheard of!

a LOT of people really need to accept that maybe some genres just aren't to their taste, idk. not every movie needs to be cookie-cutter clean. sexuality is a staple of gothic horror, if not the wider genre horror in General. you don't need to enjoy it, but it doesn't make these things uncalled for.
