something something the way Bruce stares at a wall of screens and monitors in the Cave is important because he’s not looking DOWN on his City, he is looking Up and through the very earth itself. he is perfectly still, arms crossed behind his back, lit only by the glow of Gotham’s security cameras and feeds, with Oracle’s voice an occasional hum in his left ear and nothing else. he is watching. he is no regent looking proudly over his kingdom; he is not fearful of the darkness falling over Gotham, but it does not welcome him. Lex Luthor might look down at what he has accomplished and burn with pride, but Batman will only ever look up, knowing he can do more.
