and then one of the other panelists (a filmmaker researching ai’s capability in creating television and cinema) asked “have you ever seen the movie ‘her’?” before he got cut off by the host 😭 could not make ts up

yesterday i attended a panel on ai

an audience member asked if the panelists were aware of the environmental damage that chatgpt and generative ai has on the world and one of them who is researching if ai can be used to bulk translate medical papers argued that the tradeoff could be balanced out by medical advancements and making medical research globally accessible.

one of the other panelists who had not stopped talking the whole panel about how ai was incredibly beneficial for her, an independent video game designer, suddenly had nothing to respond with.

The ballet dancer is spinning his pirouettes. His grace and decadence warms my face and I smile at him and he smiles back. He grows closer, smiling and pirouetting all the way. I open myself to him but he doesn’t stop spinning.

His limbs, poised perfectly, slam into me, knocking the breath out of my chest. He doesn’t stop spinning. My skin bruises, like a peach squeezed by a toddler’s fist. I hear my bones splinter and I can barely stand but he doesn’t stop spinning. (Or smiling.)

He flings his body weight into me until I am crumpled on the floor. Cracked and limp as if I am an antique doll. As he bows, the audience bellows their applause, standing and cheering. I am still on the floor.
