a small guide on how i battle my essays! (click on an image to view it clearer)
(keep in mind: i’m an english major so a majority of my essays are literature-focused!)
these are just some of the methods i want to share that work for me when i write my innumerable amount of essays! i’m definitely a huge planner so it’s no secret that i spend a lot of time on an essay. if you’re a deadline fighter, these tips might not necessarily be helpful (especially the handwriting one). but i hope this gives you an insight on how i write my essays! 🌈

How to Overcome a Studying Slump
Also known as procrastination, inertia, laziness, lack of motivation, or revision slump [for those of you who speak British English] (note: there are many causes! & it is always good to address your mental health first of all)
Tumblr media
Find some motivation: That may be sourced from a famous figure, someone you know personally, social media personality, the studyblr community, or even just encouraging words. Briefly write out a list of reasons why that person inspires you or a list of quotes that inspire you. (If this step seems hard, compare your situation with people today [and of the past] who are restricted from going to school at all…do it for those who don’t even have your opportunities)
Find purpose in your work. You may not care about the particular subject you are studying but think about what you can gain from knowing that information regardless (better brainpower, random trivia knowledge, better grades, or you may discover an interest in an adjacent field). If the subject is in line with your dreams, keep that in perspective with visualizations.
Face the facts. Studying does work. That time you scored 95% when you didn’t study (whereas you got a 75% after studying another time) was a fluke…a mere coincidence.
Get your mind focused: Social media can wait. Your school drama will pass but your regret of not studying for your midterm will linger. The fear of failing your next test can only be defied if you do something to prevent it. Now, create YOUR perfect studying atmosphere (this requires you knowing yourself very well). Put away your phone (or put it on “Do not disturb” or turn it off or give it to someone else for a bit…whatever works for you). Put on music (I recommend classical or “lo fi beats to study/relax to”) or create silence or go somewhere with lots of chatter. Then, write out a detailed list of all the ideas that you need to review and check them off as you go!
Find a method that works for you. You have to know if you learn better from visual/spatial (make mindmaps/study guides/graphic organizers + use different colors or fonts + get comfortable with the layout of your textbook + mind palace technique), auditory/verbal (listen to material on the subject/record your lectures if possible + vocalize it back + converse with people with a proficiency in the subject + feynman technique + mnemonics), kinesthetic (review while doing another activity eg. bouncing a ball + flashcards + take notes + don’t allow yourself to sit for too long) or interpersonal cues (study groups/tutoring sessions/labs + act out the material for others + teach someone else + recall what happened in class when you learned a certain topic). Generally, writing the information will work if your test will be on paper or vocalizing your ideas if you are preparing a presentation/speech/debate. Study in a group only if you learn better that way (if you get too distracted or find that the review is never at a good pace for you, either write out notes & questions before and address them in the group AND/OR just teach the material to a stuffed animal or someone with limited knowledge on the topic).
Make it fun. Use a color coding system with your highlighters. Use a new app (Memrise instead of Quizlet). Make a cute study guide. Make a song out of your material. Watch videos on Youtube with the content. Find things to laugh at in your textbook. Make mnemonics so ridiculous that you have to remember them (take inspiration from whoever created “Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally”…I always wanted to know what poor Aunt Sally did).
Give yourself rewards. Eat a few pieces of a snack (I recommend something which is good for your brain: walnuts, dark chocolate, avocado, pumpkin seeds, blueberries) once you reach a milestone (eg. 4 pgs of reading, 1 page of study guide, every 20 mins). Or watch a few minutes of your favorite show after every interval (caution: don’t forget about your studies!) or if you don’t trust yourself that much…watch a video from studytube. Or promise yourself things after the study session is throughly completed (eg. time out with friends, a mini spa night, takeout…i don’t recommend anything too expensive).
Know your limits. BURNOUT IS POSSIBLE. Trust me. Make sure that you are still getting time for non-academic fun and getting time outside as well. YOUR BODY WAS NOT DESIGNED TO STUDY FOR DAYS ON END. If you do have a longer study session make sure to keep hydrated & energized with water and food (and not too much caffeine).
Now, once all that has been established, make it a daily (or nearly daily) habit. Study as soon as you learn something new. Exercise that muscle of yours [your brain]. Your 5 hours study session will be a thing of the past. Only needing 2 hours now, you will be afforded an extra 3 hours to watch Netflix, cook, draw, go to the gym, go to the beach, take a nap, take a bath, or make a study schedule with + for a friend who recently experienced burnout.

stop worrying
So right now I am preparing for some exams and writing them, 5 in total.
And I feel like I have been looking at my life from a different perspective and I finally have gotten a chance to also look at my own thoughts and actions and thoughts and actions of my friends and really analyze them. And let me tell you something:
You all should stop worrying.
Stop.
Living in this over-achieving, fast-developing world can be pretty challenging. We have a fear of missing out on opportunities, news, events. But it’s ok. At the end of the day, we are all humans. We are not computers or robots.
It’s ok to want success in life, and it is perfectly fine to try and reach for the stars. Just don’t worry that much. You are worthy and you are loved, and if you feel like you are completely alone - Hey, hi, my name is Daria and I am here and we can talk and I promise you - you are not alone.
Try living with a simple thought in mind - whatever it is that doesn’t help you become a better person tomorrow should not be a part of your life today.
Does worrying help? Nah, I don’t think so. Does your over-thinking, overwhelmed mindset make it any easier for you to achieve your goals? I mean, it might, but it doesn’t help a lot. Seek inner peace, seek love and understanding of who you are and who you want to become. Don’t worry. You are loved and you are worthy and you’ve got this. I believe in you.

✨ how to send good vibes! ✨
In the spiritual, metaphysical, and witchy communities, you’ll hear a lot of people say things like “sending love” or “sending good vibes”! fun fact, most people don’t know how to actually do that haha. with a little bit of practice and basic understanding of energy, it’s actually very easy to send simple healing energy to someone. before we jump in, it’s important to note the ethics of energy work. A L W A Y S ask for permission before doing any kind of energy work on someone.  even if you’re only sending positivity! there’s a difference between praying for someone/keeping them in your thoughts and actually sending them energy. you never know how your energy will affect them. maybe they’re not ready to heal. or maybe they’re doing their own healing and your energy might throw theirs out of balance. only do energy work on people who are open to it! 🌙  ✨✨
set an intention of positivity. this is vv important! make sure you make it clear that you only intend to send positivity. I like to say something along the lines of: “may this energy be filled with nothing but love and light” or “my intention is to send only that which is pure”.if you want to send bad vibes, just set the opposite intention (not that I recommend sending anything negative lmao)
get into a meditative state and positive mindset! you can’t effectively send someone good energy if you’re not in a good mental state, first. take some time to breath, meditate, listen to some relaxing music, eat, etc.
visualize that the person is in front of you. Imagine every detail of their appearance as if they’re physically in the room with you. it might take a while to create this image so take your time and breathe through it. don’t rush!
imagine a ball of bright light glowing and expanding from the center of your heart. this is referred to as your heart chakra! feel free to play around with different colors while visualizing. green symbolizes healing energy, pink is the energy of love, and white is cleansing energy. these are the main colors associated with the heart chakra.
next, hold your hand to your heart and imagine your hand absorbing that healing/loving/cleansing energy. at this point, you might physically feel a pulsing or warmness in your hands. make sure you’re still breathing and taking your time!
extend your hand towards the person you’re visualizing and imagine that the energy is flowing through your palms and into their heart center. the pulsing sensation may get stronger at this point! If you don’t feel a pulse, it’s fine. I promise it’s still working!
keep sending the energy until all of that light is drained from your palm!
to close out the session, visualize a waterfall of white energy washing over you and replenishing your energy.
congratulations, you just completed some basic energy work bby! there are so many ways to go about sending energy but this is my favorite way. It’s quick (should take 10-15 minutes) and perfect for beginners!

goals ‘19 edition
Tumblr media
So, each year I start the same way - I am reflecting on the year that has passed and I am making plans for the new year. A list. Yes, I am one of those people...
For me writing a list of my goals, of the things that I want to achieve the most, is a ritual. Supposedly similar to those that witches and warlocks used to have centuries ago. Cause what is a spell? It is setting your intention, saying affirmations, repeating them several times until you believe in it so much that the Universe is just bound to make it true.
I am a believer. I believe that as a part of Universe I can communicate my wishes and desires to the higher power. And this higher power is always listening, day and night, so it will definitely hear me.
What is in my list for 2019? Well, let’s take a look...
1. get better grades
Studying is important and as a university student, I have come to the realization that whatever your everyday choice is, whether it is to study or procrastinate, it does shape you. Not only as a student but also as a person. I want to show myself that I can study here just like I used to do it in school, better even. I can be perfect at time-management when I want to. There are just so many exciting things this upcoming semester, and I am excited. Commercial Law, HR, Ethics, Corporate Governance among them. I will study every single day. I am not procrastinating anymore.
2. learn more
Life is about learning. Sadly, it seems to me that with time something that used to excite me so much just became mundane and routine. As if it is not interesting enough. I am not sure whether poor teachers are to blame, or whether I can be more responsible at the age of 20 and actually tell myself that partly it is my fault. No matter what the case is, I understand how I can make it better. And I will start this year by repeating some of the things that I used to love in school. I will watch educational youtube videos and do my own research. Crash Course with amazing and inspiring John Green to have videos on biology, chemistry, physics and sociology. So I will start there. I am going to get excited about educating myself more. I am going to educate myself on different topics. Life is learning.
3. write a novel
Something very dear to my heart and mind. I have been trying to write a book for the last couple of year. 3 to be exact. But I think the idea is not that fresh to me anymore. So I am starting a new book. This is a novel. A bit of supernatural, a bit of fantasy, a bit of mystery. My main goal is to write every day and just get it out on paper at first. And one small rule I am going to make for myself - I have to write every day. It can be a little, it can be a lot, but should at least be 500 words. May not seems like a lot but in the end, I will have 182500 words in my novel. And who knows? One day it might see the day of light and I will be a published author.
4. meditate and exercise
I think what I have been doing in the past few weeks has really shown me how important exercising and meditating is for my health, both physical and mental health. I started to feel better. Cutting processed sugar from my life has shown me how much happier I can be without eating all those chocolate bars or sweet yoghurt. I am on my way towards becoming more mindful and present, and I feel like this journey is going to be one of the most exciting in my life so far.
5. appreciate more your surrounding
Whether they are people or little things. Sometimes I see that people forget about the feeling of gratitude that they should project out every single day, if not every second. There are just so many things to be grateful for. Did you wake up today? Great! You had a chance to wake up in your own bed in your own house and you are not homeless? Amazing? Have you eaten today? Isn’t that a reason to say a small thank you to the universe and yourself?
Of course, I want to make my loved ones happy and I want to be happy myself, and I feel that this list will really help me in 2019.
