He followed the other man and stood a fair distance away as he prepared his bow, or whatever. “Have you ever shot a real person, either on purpose or accidentally?” he asked, curiosity evident in his voice, after the other man completed his safety call. “I’d be a shame if someone back there was deaf and didn’t hear you, but I imagine that does happen every now and then…”

“Well, I guess if all the fighter die, you’ll have to take up the fight thereafter,” Caleb pointed out, but he knew that was how the world worked. There would always be those who would survive by virtue of others fighting, but not everyone was cut out to fight. “Nope, never shot a real person,” he shook his head, wondering if people would stop believing he went around killing people anytime soon. “You wanna run back there and check, then? Frankly, I’ll be amazed if you manage to get an arrow as far as the treeline on your first try, anyway.”

“So deer?” Mimsy rolled her eyes, “Bo-oring! But count me in for catching termites though, ingenious little critters, they.” She was a little insulted that he wasn’t more impressed by her wilting of the flower, and replied with a sulk, “Well, no goody goody around here, I’m sure. Dastardly?” She tried to keep the annoyance off of her face, but it did invade her tone,“No, but only because the right occasion hasn’t presented itself. It’s too shy.” 

“Yep, deer,” he nodded, that was common prey for him. “Termites? What am I, an ant-eater?” He scrunched up his face at the thought, there were some things even he didn’t want to try. “I mean, someone truly dastardly would make their own occasion, wouldn’t they? Why sit around waiting for inspiration when you can take life by the horns, am I right?” Maybe he shouldn’t have been encouraging her to do bad things, but from the looks of her, he figured she couldn’t get up to much mischief.

“I’d like that,” she murmured knowing that it was still the opposite but if it made him feel better, she’d let him think that he was taking care of her right now. The truth was, without knowing it–his presence did take care of the various nerves she had at the current trapped situation and how stressed it made her feel. “Tons of pictures, I found them in the kid’s section,” she retorted with a teasing grin aware that while maybe he didn’t have an affinity for books the way she did, he was still able to read and she’d done her best in finding a various variety of genres for him as well. “You’re quite lucky, not everyone gets a nurse are fabulous as me,” she smiled as she felt his kiss to her cheek before she rested her head against his shoulder, her hand finding his, interlinking their fingers together. “What did you want to start with?”

“Oh, awesome, those are my favorite kinds of books,” he grinned when she teased him about kids books. “I feel extremely lucky, in fact, I think I’m the luckiest guy in this room right now, head injury notwithstanding,” he agreed with her, he didn’t see anyone else getting this kind of personal attention. He threaded his fingers with hers, giving her hand an affectionate squeeze. “Well, not gonna lie, if you start reading to me I might just fall asleep, and since that’s not the goal... maybe one of the games?”

“If I were worried about her safety, I’d tell her as much and hope she would listen, but I know she can look after herself and it’s her choice who she gets involved with. But the only people I really consider ‘enemies’ are the people who put this barrier up, so yeah, if she got involved with someone like that, I’d definitely worry about her well being.”

Amelia couldn’t resist the urge to laugh at his words before shaking her head, “you’ll have to wear like protective gear if you take me outside with an axe, just pointing that out.” She murmured back, a grin on her face before she heard his words and tilted her head, wondering just what it was that he was planning for the two of them. “You assume correctly,” she grinned before rattling off her number and waiting for him to text her or call her so she’d have his number as well. “I can’t wait for this first date.” And the glee was truly written all over her face at the prospect.

Caleb punched her number into his phone, grinning at what she said about axes. “I’m sure you’re a natural, you just don’t know it yet,” he assured her, sliding his phone back into his pocket. “Me neither,” he smiled genuinely, leaning in to peck her on the cheek sweetly. “But I promised I’d help my friend with something, so I oughta go make sure he hasn’t done anything stupid without me,” he told her, even though he wanted to stay. Max could not be left to his own devices for any length of time. “I’ll text you.” He promised.

There were a considerable amount of people who had an unsavory relationship with the Evil Queen; it was rare, though, for Cordelia to have any contact with them, even if it was through their descendant. She narrowed her eyes at him and scoffed. “You’re welcome to be as wary as you’d like about her, but I didn’t commit her crimes. If you were to judge every person based off of the choices their parents made, I highly doubt that you’d get along with very many people.” 

“I’m proud to say he very much did cross her. My dad’s the Huntsman, you know, the one who wouldn’t cut out Snow White’s heart for her?” He boasted, he knew there were those who thought he was no good for working for the queen at all, but he had stood up to her when it counted. “You and she certainly seem to share a number of unsavory characteristics though. But I suppose you probably don’t go around cursing anyone prettier than you... it’d be a full time occupation for you.”
