I always imagined Fitz as having slightly imperfect teeth. Like I know he has a “movie screen worthy smile” but like either slight overbite or extra canine tooth has just always been apart of that smile for me

I’m not gonna lie
I feel like, rereading the first book, Fitz kind of has become more bold with his voice throughout the series.
like he’s always been just ruthlessly blunt (love him), but it feels almost like he feels more confident in talking more without having to worry about everyone watching him all the time. Like, now he’s starting to realize he doesn’t ALWAYS have to perform for people. In book one it felt like everything he said was kind of calculated, or that he said things that he knew people wanted to hear whether or not he felt that way. He also just didn’t talk NEARLY as much. What he said was sparing. I mean, he was just hardly in book 1 at all, but still. There are multiple instances where Sophie internally comments on his silence.
But by book eight, he’s become such a rambler. He even apologizes for rambling in book 8.5, and smacks his forehead in book 9 because he realizes he’s rambling again. I don’t know, it’s just a mini arc I noticed today while rereading. do you think he’s become more talkative/bold with his voice?

IF Fitz Vacker did a human, American sport, it would 100% be track.
I know, I know, wouldn’t he do football? Wouldn’t he be the cliche quarterback of the football team and be popular and all that jazz?
No. Fitz was literally the oddball who missed school and had rumors spread about him. He sat with his SISTER for crying out loud. He did get popular later on, but in an AU where he went to public school and did a sport there, he wouldn’t be the jerky football jock. He would be the dedicated track kid.
You can’t tell me he wouldn’t love pole vaulting. Have you seen pole vaulters? He would love the thrill you get out of it. And sprinting? This kid would love the thrill of sprinting and getting to feel that rush of adrenaline and power that track kids promise makes the pain of it worth it. He already canonly goes on a morning run everyday anyways.

All I can think about is Deaf!Fitz. I mean, how cute of an AU would it be if Fitz were deaf and Sophie learned sign language to talk to him. Or better yet it's like what happened with Magnus and Hearth in MCGA where Sophie spends so much time with Fitz (lab partners, getting paired up for projects, etc.) that Sophie can pick up on their meaning and slowly learns how to understand not just sign language but also how to understand what Fitz means. And because I have it headcannoned that the Vackers speak Spanish, maybe Fitz teaches her LSE so that she can understand both his signing in English and Spanish. I just think it's a super cute idea that could and should be explored.

I literally go on the Fitz Vacker tag to see nice posts about my favorite character and I just see “this is why he deserves to die” “Spoiled brat” and worse. like, he’s not the best, and he’s not always a likeable character either. But he’s so realistic. So realistic.
If I were him, in the situations and circumstances he’s in, I would be FAR worse, and I say that as someone who is generally considered nice.

why is rayni x Fitz lookin so good to me right now? like, Shannon has written Fitz off as the love interest and now that’s kind of all we get him as.
Shannon never truly planned the series anyway so why not just turn around give us a nice, enemies to lovers with Fitz and rayni.
I have so much more to say about this and if anyone wants me to explain I gladly will do

the Great War by TS from midnights really reminds me of Fitz’s POV to Sophie these past few books, flashback, legacy and unlocked in particular. About how he’s treated her and about him trying to patch it up.
I mean, just look at the lyrics!
(I won’t be doing ALL the lyrics)
“My knuckles were bruised like violets, sucker punchin’ walls, cursed you as I sleep-talked”. -Remember is Flashback when he got those bloody knuckles? And in exile when he punched holes in his walls?
“all that bloodshed, crimson clover uh huh, sweet dream was over my hand was the one you reached for-all throughout the great war”-the “sweat dream” of being a vacker was crumbling and Fitz was in a VERY emotionally turbulent state of war with his family. He still was able to start something with Sophie and there was a lot of hand holding (unless I am recalling wrong).
“I vowed not to cry anymore if we survived the Great War” -when has Fitz ever cried besides Lodestar. But anyways.
“you said I have to trust more freely-but diesel is desire, you were playin with fire”-OH MY GOSH I LOVE THIS LINE. Anyways, Sophie was testing the limits of Fitz’s trust in Legacy by hanging out with Keefe all the time and ignoring all of Fitz’s calls. Fitz wanted to help Sophie with whatever they were working on, and suddenly Sophie decides to stop and not tell him why, asks him to trust her. I mean, I wouldn’t tell Fitz why if I were Sophie’s shoes either, but Fitz is not about to trust ANYTHING freely after where that’s gotten him-not even Sophie’s word. Messing around with matchmaking is huge for fitz, that doesn’t make it justifiable, but it does make Fitzs reactions to Sophie being unmatchable understandable. The Vacker legacy is something larger than Sophie realizes and hasn’t had to live with it on her back and maintain it. In this case, Fitz being in a bad match would absolutely be playing with fire.
“And maybe it’s the past that’s talking, screaming from the crypt. Telling me to punish you for things you never did-so I justified it.”-For Fitz, he’s got a lot of history and tradition from the Vacker legacy screaming at him, and this lifestyle chokes everything that could tarnish his family’s reputation. Sophie doesn’t understand, she didn’t decide to be unmatchable and it’s not her fault-but Fitz still condemns it.
“It turned into something bigger-somewhere in the haze got a sense I’d been betrayed”-Fitz was certainly jealous, and most likely knew what Keefe was feeling for Sophie (oof)
“Your finger on my hairpin triggers-slowed you down on that icy ground-“-Sophie was certainly pushing his buttons, but Fitz is now, stellarlune, seeing how he’s treated her is affecting her-how the stress slows them down and makes them less powerful.
“Looked up at me with honor and truth, broken and bruised, so I called off the troops. That was the night I nearly lost you.”-This line makes me think of that fight scene at the end of legacy. For absolutely no reason, I love reading that scene. I love Fitz I promise.
“I really thought I lost you.”-Fitz comes back at the end of legacy, Fitz comes back in unlocked. He’s still trying in Stellarlune.
“We can plant a memory garden, say a solemn prayer, place a poppy in my hair.”-Maybe they can revive their friendship. After everything has fallen through-the wars been fought-they can move on and be friends again.
“There’s no morning glory, it was war, it wasn’t fair.”
It wasn’t fair. I mean, they were trying to get together in the middle of an actual war werent they…

Okay
but like
what if Shannon did Fitz and Alvar the way Azula and Zuko were done in ATLA
what if Alvar started out the underdog of the family and the villain and became an ally, with a redemption arc.
what if Fitz started out with all the glory and power and becomes his own worse enemy, like Azulas corruption.

everyday we must rise and fall again with the terrible knowledge of the golden sophie in fitz's head vs. keefe's imperfect drawing. you can never go back. if this is what must finally drive me to violence so be it
like! tell me you don't understand fitz without telling me you don't understand fitz. being cognates is about the ability to see the other person wholly and you can't tell me in good conscience that they could have reached this level of trust without knowledge. you think fitz is oblivious to people's flaws? the boy who's so angry at the world, who picks at the faults around him because he's been betrayed so badly by the promises he thought he could hold onto? you think he isn't intimately aware of every mistake and every moment of weakness? the fitz who said "we could all use a little more weird in our lives" and who's known Sophie from the beginning, through her darkest moments and her greatest ones. who's been with her through all of it and who bore witness while staying by her side. the whole time. you can't tell me he'd put sophie on a pedestal because she's the one person he never did - not like with keefe or alvar or his entire family, because she's the part of his life that always drags him from his perfection and he wouldn't have it any other way.
and Keefe? you think Keefe can comprehend a person perfectly complexly after all he's been through, with how he prefers suppression over introspection? everyone in his life has hurt him so so much but in the midst of that there's sophie, who's been there, this golden girl that swept him up into her orbit and has been the one he can count on despite all of his mistakes. you think this boy, who has no self worth and sees himself as a borderline curse always messing everything up, doesn't think of Sophie as someone so much better than someone as broken as him could ever deserve? because what are her faults to him when he's done so much worse. and he hasn't stood by her this whole time, because he always runs, because he's the one between him and Fitz who doesn't see her as a true partner but instead as someone he has to protect from himself. but he's never gone against Sophie either, not really, never been angry with her since she's infallible in his mind and what is a relationship when you can't even get frustrated with someone. what happens when there are no cracks, because isn't that how we learn where the breaking points are? how can he really know her imperfections like this?
shannon. shannon please i can't live like this

The goofiest smile crossed my face when I started reading this.
Shannon TOTALLY did Fitz dirty in Stellarlune. He’s been reduced to a point in the love triangle and that’s all we really get to see from him. No wonder he looks like a jerk. I mean, it’s not surprising given that the series is from Sophie’s POV and that’s all she will probably see him as now-she surely has more to worry about than the many brilliant layers to Fitz’s character…
I wonder how he’d be written if it was from another characters POV.
what would he be like if it was Grady’s POV?
Dex’s POV?
The Blackswan’s POV?
What about the Neverseen’s POV?
I almost LOST IT when Glimmer picked on Fitz about being “useless”. There’s a whole paragraph of Fitz explaining to Sophie about how he struggles with shaking off the Vacker pressure to be somebody important. He’s literally trying to unlearn expectations he’s lived under his WHOLE LIFE, and while you can see his effort when you read between the lines, Shannon has just thrown away a masterpiece of character. like, she could have dug deeper into his hatred and hurt for Alvar, about what it really means to be a vacker. She could have given the audience more of what he must be going through so we can understand him more, like she does with Keefe. She also could have written a cool corruption arc and could have dug into his darker side-Gisela has remarked about his natural violence (for an elf) twice now, while mentioning Alvar no less-and Shannon has instead chosen to paint Fitz in an ugly 2D light that makes me wonder why I bothered to care so much about Fitz in the first place.
IT HURTS SHANNON
You know what? Maybe Gisela will make Fitz use the sword he had at the end of Elysian and we’ll have this cool character moment for Fitz, a moral struggle or something.
is there even any hope for him at this point? also, when IS Alvar coming back? How do you think Fitz will react if Alvar dies? Will he be distraught? Will his mind break? Or will Shannon give us NO REACTION like she did when Fitz found out Keefe ran away?
boy oh boy is book 10 going to be a long wait.
fitz corruption arc is so fascinating. like he's so scared he'll turn into alvar and he tries so hard to make sure it will never happen but in the end he couldn't escape it. ough
*shaking* you dont understand how much this intrigues me. Like flashback explored a hint of paranoia within him as the world he trusted oh so much suddenly turned his back on him, and he wanted to step up do do something to try and prove that he could rely upon himself.
But the way that he goes about it is so dark and twisted, wrapped up in his own hatred of his brother and all that he stands for. It frustrates me that he's the one mad about the storehouse, when he's the one who took the first step toward violence in the hope to save his friends.
Shannon hinted at Fitz's jealousy toward Sophie's natural leadership, but I truly wish that she leaned more into that than into his anger at her and Keefe. While I feel that he deserves to be upset and hurt with Sophie moving on so quickly, I also feel that the way that she made it bleed so deeply into the rest of his actions was a dirty move.
What would have been fun is if Fitz is the most understanding of the burning of the warehouse. I think it'd be fun to show a darker side of him that has erupted in the mistrust in his world. Instead of making Fitz's anger pointless, to use it on the love triangle of the series, would it not be better directed at his inner battle between breaking the cycle of millennia of silent prejudice and following in his brothers footsteps?
Can Fitz's arc parallel that of Sophie's within him discovering that the change that he needed to make was finding that trust, the thing he values most, is a double edged sword?
No? K angy fitz it is then ig.

I just want Fitz to have a friend :(
like, does he have anyone to talk to? Someone other than his family? When was the last time he was hugged? He’s working so hard to be better. I want to see him BEYOND the love interest position. I want to honestly see him from another characters POV. He’s such a complex character, Shannon what did you do to him?????
