OFF (2025) Liveblog

Like I did for Deltarune, I decided to keep my phone's notepad open to jot down my thoughts as I played. Its pretty stream of consciousness, but I hope you enjoy my initial reactions to the remake. Note that I played the original a long time ago, and played the demo, so I start at killing Deden again. Naturally, there are spoilers for the new content.

Alas, Deden no longer trousles your bones. The clock is cool though.

Ooh, zone 2’s battle theme is subtly different, but It’s gonna be crazy by zone 4. Wait, does pepper steak even appear in zone 4?

The new implementation of the elements seems neat. Less arbitrary than the original. Or is it? Were the weaknesses always tied to the enemy’s classification?

I appreciate wide angle revealing enemy health with a crit.

Oh??? Is that a brand new enemy? !MISSING!? Is that description a glitch?

Uh, thanks for healing me? Then blowing up???

What is meat effective against? I would have guessed secretaries, but they seem to count as beasts. I mean, crab was weak to it I guess.

And that's that! I had a good time reliving this classic game. My only real complaint is that the secretaries are way too overbearing not to have a run button. The new bosses were cool and fun to fight, and the new soundtrack is quite nice. I don't think it hits the highs of the original, but it was overall high quality stuff.

I’ve been reading My Dress Up Darling. It’s pretty fun, if a bit over the top.

I’m only on chapter 33, but I can’t help but have noticed something odd about Marin.

She is madly in love with Wakana, yet other than losing her marbles around him, she never really describes what she finds attractive about him?

Meanwhile her room is covered in posters of sexy ladies and she’s repeatedly fixating on character’s boobs?

I dunno. She doesn’t exactly seem straight, that’s all I’m saying.

No spoilers for later chapters please. Maybe I’ll learn more as the story progresses.

Chuck's Plants vs. Zombies Mod

A huge item pack for the game Backpack Hero! Featuring my own amateur lovable sprite art.

This mod adds hundreds of items based on Plants vs Zombies! The primary addition are seed packets which grow into plants to help you defeat your enemies.

But it isn't just PvZ 1! This mod contains nearly every plant from PvZ 1, PvZ 2, and PvZ 2 (China), along with a few other assorted friends from other games.

The latest update features an overhaul to explosive plants, letting them be used more frequently, and adding lots of new item tags to improve cross-mod synergies.

But it isn't just plants! There are also a variety of gardening tools to boost the performance of your plants, and a variety of zombie items which grow stronger based on your plants!

There is tons to find! Can you grow a valuable King Guppy? Or how about unleashing the power of the Dark Matter Dragonfruit? Or maybe you just want to destroy everything with Pokra, as god intended.

Not just when it comes to trans stuff. Every time homophobes argue about the "sanctity of marriage" or other such nonsense, I can't help but think, so you people think straight hate is fine, but not gay love.

Love is messy. Identity is messy. Let people be messy.

Approximately 50% of marriages end in divorce and only around 8% of trans people detransition (with 62% of detransitioners subsequently transitioning again) so I think we should stop infantilizing trans people and hammering them over and over with “What if you regret this?” comments and start turning that scrutiny towards people who are engaged as they are statistically much more likely to regret their decision and suffer for it.

Witch Awakening

This one thoroughly nerd-sniped me.

There is a ton of complexity and optimization in this one, without having the annoying minutia of raw stat numbers. (Seriously, some Cyoa just throw a million stats at you, and expect you to care about optimizing them. Whereas this one lets you stack more broadly defined affects and abilities.)

What really broke me though, was the option of Isabella as a companion. Oh yeah, just build a whole second character that can synergize with yours. Go wild. Look, if they didn't want me to optimize a vore build, they wouldn't have made Lamia an option.

Oh and some of the perks you can purchase? Direct you to other Cyoa! Which really lets you go wild.

The only thing I didn't bother with were the quests. There are some nice relics, but nothing defining for my build, so I didn't feel like optimizing them.

Hatchling CYOA

Dragons are cool.

Do I really need to elaborate?

Okay, fine. Some cyoa are a bit too complex, some are a bit too simple. This one is one the simpler end of the spectrum, but offers enough flexibility to create some fun builds.

It does have some balance issues. I think Hybrid and Multiscale are too cheap considering how many species/colors are free, but quite good. Why is world serpent so cheap???

The guy who did the vampire one also has a dragon cyoa, and it's also quite good, though I enjoyed the flavor of this one a bit more.

Build-Your-Own Vampire

Cyoa images are a lot of fun, as I've discovered. I'm going to highlight some of the ones I found particularly enjoyable and/or high quality.

Vampires! Who doesn't like vampires? They suck blood, look good in black, and range genre from romance, to horror, to comedy. This cyoa lets you build almost any vampire you can imagine.

Not only does it have extensive options for the modern fantasy vampires we're all familiar with, but it goes the extra mile, featuring dozens of niche traits sourced from vampire myths from around the world. All while having a fun sense of humor in the trait descriptions.

Not too wordy, easy to understand, with plenty of creative choices that matter, this cyoa is the gold standard as far as I'm concerned. It isn't my top favorite, but if you're looking to dip your toes into reading cyoa, this is a good place to start.
