The Disappearance of Alice Corbett
Tumblr media
May 14, 2025
Alice Corbett was born in 1905 in Utica, New York. At the time of her disappearance she was a 20/21 year old junior year student in good academic standing. Alice attended Smith College in Northampton Massachusetts.
On the morning of November 13, 1925, Jean M. Robeson, a student and friend of Alice, was found dead in her dorm room from accidental asphyxiation from gas lighting. Later, around 8 am, Alice was seen leaving her room from the Clark House dorm.
Alice failed to return later in the afternoon. Concerned, her friends entered her room to find a note written in her handwriting. College officials examined the note and reported that it said, "Mother, I am going home" and other content suggesting that Alice was in a "confused" state of mind.
Alice's father, James, showed the note to a doctor who believed she may have been suffering from mental illness.
Before Alice disappeared she was dating a man named Thomas Sterling, who attended Amherst College nearby. Thomas told police that Alice had asked him to buy her poison a week before she disappeared. Thomas refused to do this. Police also examined letters exchanged between Alice and Thomas that indicated the two had gotten into a fight recently. In December 1925, Thomas was cleared of any involvement in her disappearance.
Alice was last seen wearing a dark dress, hat, and distinctive yellow raincoat. She was believed to have $75 in cash (about $1,345 in 2024). She is described as being 5 foot 7 inches in height, weighing 111-112 pounds with brown or dark hair and grey or blue eyes.
On the day Alice was reported missing, college staff and students searched the campus for her. The next day, Massachusetts State Police and local boy scouts did a ground search in the area including Mount Tom where Alice liked to hike.
James Corbett posted a $500 reward (about $8965 in 2024) for any information leading to her discovery. Local radio stations in Springfield. Massachusetts and Schenectady, New York broadcast Alice's description.
In the next few weeks police investigated reports from witnesses, some claiming to have seen Alice. A druggist believed to have seen Alice on the morning of November 13, and stated she had inquired about the local trolley schedule. Trolley crews stated they had not seen any woman resembling Alice on any of the trolleys that day.
Witnesses in Easthampton and Westfield, Massachusetts reported seeing a woman looking like Alice wearing a yellow raincoat. A week after Mount Tom was searched, a witness claimed they saw Alice hiking in the area which led to more searches there.
On November 20, 1925, telephone linemen working near Mount Tom reported being held at gunpoint by a young woman who looked like Alice. The woman demanded food and then ran into the woods. In early December 1925, a resident claimed to have seen a girl wearing a yellow slicker walking down an embankment toward the Connecticut River in Hadley, Massachusetts.
Police had linked this report with an earlier sighting of a yellow slicker that was floating on the same area of the river. On December 13, police stated they believed Alice had wandered away and was dead.
The publicity of Alice's disappearance produced many false reports. In December, police and newspapers reported receiving many crank letters about the case. In March 1926, a Troy, New York resident tried to collect the reward money twice by claiming he hired Alice as a housemaid in his boarding house.
The next month, in April, a middle-aged woman turned herself into the police claiming to be Alice. In May, a message in a bottle that was supposedly written by Alice was retrieved from the Connecticut River. The note said Alice was being held captive in caves near Smith's Ferry. This was believed to be a hoax but police searched the area to no avail.
Searches continued for Alice throughout 1926. In January 1927, James enlisted the help of a boatman who searched the Connecticut River. Canals at various mills were drained for maintenance, and during this a search was conducted for Alice or her clothing. In October 1927, James tried to offer a reward of $1000 (about $18,102 in 2024).
Alice's case gained interest again in 1928 when Frances Smith, another student at Smith College vanished from her residence on January 13. In March 1929 her body was found in the Connecticut River near Longmeadow, but no official cause of death was reported.
In 1933, a man from New York City confessed to murdering Alice while living in Hadley in 1925. He later recanted this confession, and after police did an investigation they did conclude that his confession was false.
In 1936, human bones were found in a shallow grave in Northampton, suspected to be Alice's. They were determined to be historic Native American remains.
Almost 100 years later, and Alice remains missing. Her case has never been solved and no remains have ever been found.

Who was Peter Bergmann & did he ever really exist?
Tumblr media
March 21, 2025
On June 12, 2009, a man boarded a bus toward Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland carrying a black shoulder bag and a carry-on luggage bag. He took a taxi to the Sligo City Hotel, where he paid per night in cash.
He gave the name Peter Bergmann, which turned out to be a false name, an alias he was using. He had a slender build, was about 5 ft 10 in tall, had short grey hair, blue eyes, a tan complexion and was estimated to be in his late 50's to early 60's.
According to staff and others around, the man appeared to be of Germanic descent and spoke English with a thick German accent. He was neatly groomed, face shaven and hair combed. He was also well dressed, wearing a black leather jacket, blue pants, socks, a black leather belt, and a pair of black shoes. His clothes were from a popular store C&A, in Europe, with most stores located in Germany or Austria.
Surveillance cameras outside the hotel show him often going outside to smoke. The man was seen on CCTV footage leaving the building with a purple plastic bag, but when he returned the bag was always gone. It appeared as though the bag was full of items that he would dispose of, but the man used the blind spots of the surveillance cameras to his advantage.
It appeared that the man's movements were meticulous, and he knew how to hide items that would be identifiable to him. On June 13, the man walked to the Sligo post office and purchased stamps and airmail stickers. On June 14, he asked a taxi driver for recommendations for a nice quiet beach where he could swim. The taxi driver recommended Rosses Point and drove the man there. The man did return in the same taxi and was dropped off at the bus station.
On June 15, the man checked out of the hotel room, handing in his room key. He left with a black shoulder bag, purple plastic bag, and a different black luggage bag. The original carry-on the man had when he first arrived in Sligo was gone.
He walked to the bus station, and stopped at Quayside Shopping Centre, and was reported to have awkwardly been waiting in the doorway for several minutes. He left that location and ordered a cappuccino and sandwich from the bus station. He ate his food and was looking at pieces of paper that he had kept in his pocket.
After reading the paper, he tore it in half and threw it away in a garbage can. He then took a bus heading towards Rosses Point. It was reported he had been seen by 16 people walking on the beach, casually saying hi to those passing by.
On June 16, a man named Arthur Kinsella and his son Brian, found a man's body lying on the beach early in the morning. The man was wearing a purple striped Speedo-type swimming trunks, with his underpants over the top, and a navy t-shirt tucked into them. Shortly after with authorities called, the man was pronounced dead. The man had been Peter Bergmann.
The man was found with no wallet, money or form of ID. The man had been washed up on the beach, but the medical examiner could find no evidence of classical salt water drowning or signs of foul play. The man's teeth were in good condition, he had a gold tooth on the upper back right side of his mouth and a small silver filling along the gum of a tooth on the left lower jaw.
Despite the man's physical appearance being well, he was in poor health. He was in the advance stages of prostate cancer and bone tumours. He was showing signs of previous ischaemic heart disease. There was no report of medication of any sort in his system. They reported the man would have been in significant pain and would have needed a prescription of pain medicine or at least some form of pain relievers.
The investigation into the man known as Peter Bergmann lasted 5 months before his body was buried in Sligo.
Some reports conclude that the address the man gave the hotel upon checking in actually leaded to a vacant lot. However, others claim that a street with the spelling "Ainstettersn" does not exist in Austria or Germany. The post code he gave was 4472 and was unassigned. Vienna post codes begin with the number 1.
There is no Interpol notice for the man either because his body did not fall under the category of missing person or wanted person. Due to this, it is the responsibility of the man's country of origin to report him as missing and we do not know where he was from.
There have been public stories posted about this man in Austria and Germany, but despite this no one has ever come forward to identify the man. It appears that the man using the name Peter Bergmann went to great lengths to conceal his identity even after death.
I tend to believe that it is possible he was not from either Austria or Germany and perhaps has ties somewhere else in Europe. It also seems strange that it appears he had drowned (whether on accident or purpose) but there was no evidence of that being the cause of death.

The Disappearance of Adam, Trevor & Mitchell O'Brien
Tumblr media
March 10, 2025
On November 9, 1996, a man named Gary O'Brien from Torbay, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, called his ex-wife, Diana Boland, to let her know their three sons who had been visiting him over the weekend would not be coming home.
The O'Brien boys, 14-year-old Adam, 11-year-old Trevor, and 4-year-old Mitchell, had gone to see their father on that November day. Gary did not have custody of the children at the time. The call was made at 8:30 pm with Gary also telling Diana that he had rigged his house so that it would explode if anyone were to enter.
Diana asked Gary if she could speak to her sons, with him replying "later" and hanging up. Diana's sister, who was with her at the time, called the police.
The police arrived at Gary's residence and discovered that he had set up a makeshift bomb using two 400 lbs. propane tanks. Diana believed her ex-husband had done this to create a diversion. Gary had a previous history with violence, suicidal tendencies, and psychiatric problems.
Note: there seems to be little information in how the police handled this on the day of.
In October 1997, almost one year later, an engine assembly for a 1989 Ford Tempo (possibly from Gary's vehicle) was found in the ocean near Flatrock, about 10 km from where his sons disappeared. No bodies were found from that location. It has been widely believed that Gary murdered his sons and then took his own life.
Diana believed Gary had dumped the engine of his car over the cliffs to the ocean to mislead the police. In 1998, the Thunder Bay police received an anonymous top from a woman who claimed to have recognized the pictures of the O'Brien brothers.
This woman claimed to have allegedly babysat the boys and even knew the nickname of one of them. Police tried to locate the woman into 1999 but were unsuccessful. The woman said she babysat the boys after their disappearance, suggesting they were still alive.
Gary's sister believes he and his sons are dead, though Diana believes her sons are still alive and that Gary could have taken them to a religious commune and put them in an environment with no access to technology or the world, in order to brainwash them.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has created various age progression photos of each O'Brien boy with the most recent ones being released in early 2017. The case remains unsolved.

Seven Deaths at Niagara Falls
Tumblr media
January 20, 2025
The Schooner Michigan
The schooner Michigan was the first attempt to really boost tourism within the Niagara Falls area. William Forsyth from the Pavilion Hotel and a group of local hotel owners wanted to increase their business in 1827. William Forsyth purchased an old schooner that used to be a merchant ship called the Michigan. The goal was to do a publicity stunt, by filling the schooner with animals and sending it over the falls.
With a crowd of about 10,000 tourists watching, two bears had escaped before going over the edge, but the other animals including buffalo, raccoons, and foxes were tied or caged and died. The only animal to survive the actual fall was a single goose.
2. Ed Delahanty
Ed Delahanty held the record for one of the most impressive batting averages and was considered one of the best baseball players in the 19th century.
In 1903, Ed was on a train going back to New York from Detroit and was very drunk. He began smashing glass and disturbing the others on the train. The conductor and crew forced Ed off the train at Bridgeburg, Ontario. Buffalo was in sight, and Ed attempted to cross the bridge spanning Niagara Falls. Supposedly, he got into a scuffle with the night watchman, and it is unclear whether he was pushed or fell off the bridge. His body was recovered a week later by the captain of the Maid of the Mist.
3. Charles Stephens
Barrel daredevils were extremely popular in the early 1900's. Amongst them, Charles Stephens. Stephens hailed from England as a barber, and began performing high dives and parachute jumps as the "Demon Barber of Bristol."
In July 1920, Charles left his family to come to Canada to tumble over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Another daredevil, Bobby Leach, actually tried to get Charles to not do the stunt, believing the barrel would not be able to withstand. Charles thought this warning was to prevent him from becoming more successful and decided to go through with the stunt.
The barrel was strapped to Charles' arms and an anvil to his feet. When Charles went over, the barrel hit the base of the Falls with a huge force, the anvil crashed through the bottom. When the barrel was found later, Charles' arm was still attached to it. That one limb is buried in the cemetery at Niagara Falls.
4. Hesham Sayegh
In 1981, Dunia Sayegh and her family were visiting Niagara Falls in Canada. Her 2-month-old son, Hesham, suddenly slipped from his mother's arms into the Falls. Dunia was hysterical and had to go to the hospital to be sedated.
It was unknown to police whether they would even be able to recover the infant's body. Three days later, Dunia was arrested and brought to trial under suspicion that she intentionally threw her son over into the Falls. Dunia claimed to have anxiety and suffer from dizzy spells, claiming it was an accident. Her friends also supported this claim. The charge of manslaughter was eventually dismissed.
5. William "Red" Hill Jr
William "Red" Hill Jr. became known as a daredevil, in the footsteps of his father, Red Hill Sr., who was a daredevil and known to help save and recover individuals from the Niagara River just below the Falls.
Red Hill Sr. ended up passing away at a Niagara Falls hospital due to effects of gassing from his time in World War I in 1942, at the age of 54. His son, Red Jr., wanted to raise funds to honour his father through doing stunts.
However, the stunts he performed did not raise enough money, so he wanted to increase the stakes by taking a barrel over the Horseshoe Falls. On August 5, 1951, Red Hill Jr., set off with thousands watching him. His barrel was 13 large inflated inner tubes held together by canvas webbing, encased by heavy-gauge fish netting. He nicknamed the barrel "The Thing."
The barrel did make it over the cataract, however the barrel ended up shattered and broken apart from the pressure of the water and the great fall. Red Jr. did not survive, and his body was found the next morning at the Maid of the Mist landing.
6. Robert Overacker
Another daredevil, 39-year-old Robert Overacker decided to challenge the Horseshoe Falls via jet ski on October 1, 1995. He wanted to ride the jet ski until he reached the brink of the Falls. Then, he would propel a parachute to help him land in the River below the Falls.
Robert was successful -- at first. At the brink of the Falls, Robert ignited his parachute, but when the parachute deployed, it fell away from his reach to the ground. Robert did not realize that the parachute was not bound to his body, and he fell to his death. Two people who witnessed his tragic death were his stepbrother and his friend.
7. Jessie W. Sharp
Twenty-eight-year-old Jessie W. Sharp was an experienced kayaker when he came to challenge the Niagara River. On June 5, 1990, Jessie attempted to ride over the Horseshoe Falls in a kayak. Jessie was well prepared, having planned the trip for 3 years prior.
There were 3 people who came to videotape Jessie's stunt, and the purpose was to further his career in stunting. Jessie did not wear a helmet or a life-preserver because he did not want his face covered for the video and for it to not hamper his escape if he got caught under the Falls.
After going over the Falls, Jessie wanted to continue kayaking through the Great Gorge Rapids and then the Whirpool to the docks at Queenston. He even made a reservation at the Queenston Park Restaurant. Jessie W. Sharp was filmed going over the Falls, but he was never seen again and his body has never been recovered.

The Gentlemen of Heligoland
Tumblr media
January 01, 2025
Happy 2025! Just want to add my appreciation for anyone who has stumbled across this small blog of mine. This blog is a hobby I started a few years ago because I love true crime, specifically older cases and unidentified/missing persons cases. I never imagined that I would have hundreds of followers, so to anyone who has taken even a small amount of time to read a story on here: thank you and I hope you have a wonderful year!
The Gentleman of Heligoland is the name for an unidentified man whose body was found in the North Sea off Heligoland in 1994. I first came across this story from Georgia Marie (true crime Youtuber) and have been fascinated by it. This man has also been referred to as the North Sea Man, and after 30 years he still has never been identified.
On July 11, 1994, a border guard boat retrieved the body of a man about 20km off the west side of Heligoland. Heligoland is a small archipelago and is part of the German state Schleswig-Holstein. The police believe the man's body had travelled a distance in the water.
An autopsy was conducted and showed that the man had suffered blunt force trauma to his head and upper body while he was still alive. The man was 6'5 in height, and believed to be around the ages of 45-50, meaning he was possibly born between 1944-1949. He had an extremely slim build. The nickname "The Gentleman" came about as the man was wearing a suit and dressed professionally.
In December 2021, the man's body was exhumed, and DNA was extracted in hopes of identifying him soon. The man was thought to have been deceased and in the water for up to 7 months before his body was found. The man's body had 6kg of cast iron weights tied to his body, suggesting that whoever put his body in the North Sea was not intending for him to ever be found.
The cast iron shoes found on him were originated from Bristol, UK. These were made to be for females with the initials AJK, the trademark of AJ Jackson.
It was also most likely that the man was not from Heligoland as the population was extremely small and still is to this day -- anyone who went missing would have been the talk of the town.
The estimations of hair and eye colour can never be completely accurate as The Gentleman was pretty decomposed when found. He was wearing navy pants that were made in France, a long sleeved light blue shirt, British made shoes, and a distinctive stripped wool tie with diagonal stripes in different colours. Police suspected that The Gentleman was from Britain or France and spent a lot of time in Britain.
In February 2022, the police released a photofit and new information about the man in hopes of identifying him. His tie was found to be made by Marks & Spencer for both English and French language markets, which included Canada back in the 90's.
It was also believed that the man's shoes had been repaired and were secondhand, leading some to believe that the man may not have been the wealthiest.
A radio isotope analysis was conducted in 2022 at Murdoch University, which found that The Gentleman may have spent most of his life in Australia.

Ronald Gene Simmons' Christmas Murders
Tumblr media
December 07, 2024
Ronald Gene Simmons Sr. was born on July 15, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. In 1957, Simmons dropped out of school and joined the U.S. Navy, stationed in Washington where he met his wife, Bersabe Rebecca "Becky" Ulibarri, on July 9, 1960.
Between this time and 1978, the couple had 7 children together. Simmons left the Navy in 1963, and by 1965 had joined the U.S. Air Force. Simmons won many awards during his military career.
On April 3, 1981, Simmons was investigated for allegedly having a child with his 17-year-old daughter, Sheila, because he was sexually abusing her. Simmons did not want to be arrested so fled to Arkansas with his family later that year from New Mexico.
The family had a 13 acre piece of land that they would call, "Mockingbird Hill." The home did not have a telephone or indoor plumbing, and had a private fence built around it. Because of no plumbing, Simmons got his family to dig 3 cesspits, which he would later dispose bodies into.
Simmons worked a lot of random jobs during this time, and even quit a position at Woodline Motor Freight after he had multiple reports of sexual advances he was committing.
By the time the killings happened, two of Simmons older children had already moved out, including Sheila, and had families of their own.
Before Christmas 1987, Simmons decided to kill his entire family. On December 22, Simmons killed his wife Rebecca and oldest son Gene, by bludgeoning them with a crowbar and shooting them. He then strangled his 3-year-old granddaughter, Barbara.
Simmons dumped the bodies into one of the cesspits and waited for his other children to return home from school. When the children arrived home, Simmons told them he had presents for them but wanted to give them one at a time. He killed 17-year-old Loretta by strangling her and held her under the water in a rain barrel. His other children, Eddy, Marianne, and Becky were then killed the same way, all of their bodies going into the cesspit.
On December 26, 1987, Simmons two older children arrived home as he had invited them over for the holidays. Simmons then killed his son Billy and his wife, Renata, by shooting them. He then strangled and drowned their 20-month-old son, Trae. Simmons then shot his daughter Sheila, and her husband, Dennis McNulty.
Simmons then strangled his child by Sheila, 7-year-old Sylvia Gail, and then his 21-month-old grandson Michael.
He laid their bodies in neat rows in the lounge, with all of them covered by coats except for Sheila's, who had been covered with their best tablecloth. Trae and Michael's bodies were wrapped in plastic and put in abandoned cars at the end of the lane.
Simmons then drove to a Sears store where he picked up Christmas gifts he had ordered for his family. He went out for a drink at the local bar that night, before returning home to watch tv and drink beer.
On the morning of December 28, 1987, Simmons drove to Walmart where he purchased another firearm. His first target was the law firm where he had previously met a secretary named Kathy Cribbins Kendrick.
Simmons had been infatuated with her but she had rejected him. He walked into the office and shot her. He then went to an oil company office, intending to shoot the owner, Russell "Rusty" Taylor. Russell had also owned the Mini Mart where Simmons resigned. He shot and wounded Taylor, and killed another man, James David Chaffin, who was a total stranger to Simmons. Another employee was also shot at but the bullet missed.
Simmons drove to the Mini Mart where he shot wounded two other people. His final target was his former supervisor, which he shot twice wounding her. He then ordered one of the employees to call the police.
When police arrived, Simmons handed over his gun and surrendered without resistance. Simmons killed two people and injured four others during his rampage.
Simmons underwent psychiatric evaluation where he was found fit to stand trial. He was found guilty on May 12, 1988, for the murders of Kendrick and Chaffin. He was then on trial for the murders of his 14 family members and found guilty on February 10, 1989. He was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
As a potential motive, a family friend claimed that Simmon's wife, Rebecca, had been saving up money to divorce Simmons when the killings happened. During the trial, Simmons actually had to be removed at one point for punching the prosecutor, John Bynum, and trying to get a deputy's handgun, after Bynum introduced a letter between Simmons and Sheila.
The letter stated that Simmons was expressing anger that Sheila told people he was the father of her child, and he would see her in Hell. Simmons refused to appeal his death sentence.
Simmons life was constantly threatened in prison, and he had to be removed from other prisoners. This was due to him refusing to appeal his death sentence -- the others believed he was damaging their own chances of beating their sentences.
On June 25, 1990, Simmons died from lethal injection. None of his surviving relatives would claim the body, and he was buried in a potter's field in Lincoln County, Arkansas.

3 Halloween Murders
October 31, 2024
Tumblr media
Karl Jackson
On October 31, 1998, Karl Jackson who was 21, got out of his car in the Bronx, New York, to tell a group of teenagers to stop throwing eggs. Once Karl finished, he returned to his car and got inside of it. It was then that one of the teenagers he had confronted pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.
Karl's father, Karl Jackson Sr., had reported that his son actually never went out on Halloween, claiming that it was too dangerous. However, Karl had made an exception that night to take his girlfriend, Darlene's 9 year old son Clyde to a Halloween party.
When the party had ended, Karl had plans to drop off Clyde to a babysitter and go out to another party with Darlene.
It was then that their car got egged and Karl stepped out. Between 1984 and 2010, The New York Times reported that 24 people had been killed or seriously injured over egg throwing confrontations.
Curtis Sterling was the person who shot and murdered Karl Jackson, being only 17 at the time. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Every year on Halloween, Karl's mother sends Curtis a Halloween card to tell him that she's happy he is behind bars.
Tumblr media
2. Laura Ann Aime
On October 31, 1974, Laura Ann Aime who was 17, left a Halloween party in Utah. Unfortunately she would shortly run into one of the world's most known serial killers - Ted Bundy.
While the details of Laura's murder are unknown, it is known that Laura had left the party to go buy cigarettes. Almost a month later, her body was found halfway down an embankment in American Fork Canyon. She had been raped, bludgeoned and strangled.
Her family chose to put November 1974 as her death date on her grave as there were reports that Laura had been kept alive for a few weeks, and died only one week before her body had been found.
Laura's murder was quickly tied to 17 year old Melissa Smith, who was the daughter of a local police chief, and the disappearance of 17 year old Debra Kent, whose remains have never been found besides one of her kneecaps found in 2019.
Ted Bundy never necessarily confessed to murdering Laura, but investigators believe she was one of his victims as her death matched his M.O., as well as the timeframe and location adding up.
Tumblr media
3. Lisa Ann French
On October 31, 1973, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a 9 year old girl named Lisa Ann French went trick or treating. Lisa was dressed as a hobo that year and had already gone to two houses before visiting her neighbour, 25 year old Gerald Turner.
According to reports, Lisa actually knew Gerald as he had once rented the other half of her family's duplex. She often visited him to say hello or show him things that she'd found.
That night, Gerald invited Lisa into his home. Gerald later said that he remembered Lisa looking happy as she recognized her, but then her smile turned to fear in her eyes when he closed the door behind her.
Gerald took Lisa to his bedroom where he brutally sexually assaulted her until she stopped breathing. Lisa died from asphyxiation and shock.
Gerald attempted to cover his crime by wrapping Lisa in a garbage bag and dumping her body. Police soon came to his door where he admitted to killing the little girl. He later recanted his confession but was sentenced to 38 years and 6 months in jail.
After Lisa's murder, the area did trick or treating differently. There was set hours for it and it never occurred after dark.
Here were three horrific Halloween stories where 3 individuals lost their lives young. Karl, Laura, and Lisa all had families, friends, hopes and dreams. The monsters who took their lives are scarier than any spooky Halloween movie fictional killer. May their killers never know peace. I hope everyone had a great October and a safe Halloween tonight!

The Stolen Identity of Joseph Newton Chandler III
Tumblr media
October 28, 2024
Robert Ivan Nichols, who went by the alias Joseph Newton Chandler III was born on September 12, 1926 in New Albany, Indiana.
On July 23, 2002, Robert Ivan Nichols committed suicide by a gunshot wound to the head in Eastlake, Ohio at the age of 75. After his death, investigators tried to locate his family and friends but to no avail. It was later found that Robert had been using the name Joseph Newton Chandler III for decades as a false identity, and that the real Joseph was an 8 year old boy who died in a car crash in 1945.
The real Joseph Newton Chandler III was born on March 11, 1937 in Buffalo, New York. On December 21, 1945, Joseph, his father Joseph Newton Chandler Jr., and his mother, Billie, were killed instantly in a car accident close by to Sherman, Texas.
The Chandler family had been on their way to see the boy's grandmother in Weatherford, Texas for the holidays. Their car had been in a head on collision with a truck driven by a man named L.C. Black of De Queen, Arkansas who left the scene uninjured.
Robert Nicholas joined the US Navy in World War II and served as a firefighter on the USS Aaron Ward which ended up being bombed by the Japanese in May 1945 off Okinawa. Robert was wounded in the back and hip and awarded the Purple Heart. He burned his uniforms after the war.
Robert married a woman named Laverne Kort in 1947. They had three sons and Robert worked as a draftsman for an electric company. In 1964, he left his wife and family and filed for divorce.
He moved to Dearborn, Michigan, where he told his parents he worked in the automobile industry. By March 1965, he wrote to his parents that he was now living in Richmond, California, while also sending a letter to his son Phil from Napa, California.
After this, Robert's family never heard from him again and later reported in missing in the same year. The family hired detectives to try to find Robert in both California and Indiana, but were unable to find any trace of him or anyone who knew him in those areas.
It is noted that Robert used his real name to work until around 1976.
Robert stole Joseph's identity in September 1978 in Rapid City, South Dakota, after applying for a social security card. He then moved to Cleveland, and worked a number of jobs. Robert had eventually become laid off in 1997.
It was also said that he claimed to have a sister named Mary Wilson, who lived in Columbus, Ohio, however the address he provided for her was made up and did not exist there. It was revealed later that Robert had used that address that he was born at in New Albany.
It was reported that Robert living under Joseph's identity, was a hermit who only left his house to work and eat. His co-workers reported that he rarely spoke to anyone and had no friends.
He also engaged in strange behaviour such as listening to white noise for hours, and one time drove 700 miles to an L.L. Bean store in Maine, only to leave when he got there because there was no spots available to park.
In 1992, he dressed up as a gangster and went to a Halloween party however the people there claimed he never spoke to anyone the entire night.
In 1989, Robert showed up to a local hospital with lacerations on his penis, claiming he got them from a vacuum. He also made homemade electronic devices a lot. He had a computer he used sometimes, and investigators found searches such as "Nazism" and "plastic explosives."
Robert's body was discovered in his apartment on July 30, 2002, about a week after he died. He shot himself in the mouth with a revolver he had purchased months before. On his calendar he had marked down the days until his suicide, and before doing it had closed his blinds and turned off his air conditioning. He had recently been diagnosed with colon cancer which may have been part or his reasoning for his death.
He had $82,000 in his bank account and had listed co-workers as his emergency contacts. Police could not find any of his relatives and that is what led them to realize he was living under a false name and identity. Authorities could not use fingerprints to assist in identification but were able to get a DNA sample from a hospital Robert had visited in 2000.
So why had Robert been living under the false identity of Joseph Newton Chandler III who had died almost 60 years prior and what was his real name?
Authorities speculated that Robert was a fugitive of some kind, either on the run after committing violent crimes or hiding from something. No theories have ever been confirmed.
Internet sleuths suggest he may have been the unidentified Zodiac killer as he resembled police sketches and was known to live in California. Some believed he was a fugitive named Steven Campbell, who was wanted for attempted murder. Authorities also thought he may have been a German soldier or Nazi official from World War II who had fled to the US to escape prosecution for war crimes.
Robert's name was not identified until 2018, 16 years after he died. In 2014, the case was reopened, and using DNA extracted from a tissue sample from his hospital visit, a CODIS profile was created, but no hits were found.
In 2016, there was a match found that indicated his possible surname was either Nicholas or Nichols. In 2018, the DNA Doe Project identified him as Robert Ivan Nichols. A CODIS match with Phil Nichols, Robert's son, confirmed his identification.
The reason for why Robert Nicholas stole the identity of an 8 year old boy who died in 1945, and lived under the identity since 1978 remains a mystery.

Cally Jo Larson
Tumblr media
October 24, 2024
Cally Jo Larson was born on June 3, 1986 in Litchfield, Minnesota. On April 20, 1999, Cally Jo returned to her Waseca home from school.
Cally Jo was found dead by her 16 year old sister, Jayme, less than two hours after the 12 year old had gotten home. The man, who had murdered her, Lorenzo Sanchez, had claimed he originally went into the Larson house around 2pm that day to steal.
Sanchez said he had rummaged around for a bit and then left the house, but returned a short time later because he lost his ID. He said that when he was looking around for his ID Cally Jo had come home, and he did not want her to report him.
Sanchez admitted that he tied Cally Jo up, got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her. He then got a cord and hung her in the stairway. He did not admit to sexually assaulting Cally Jo but there was evidence of it. Sanchez also claimed he did not know that Cally Jo died until later that day.
Waseca, an area of only around 9,400 people at the time, were terrified after the murder of Cally Jo, and would make sure to drop off and pick up their children from school themselves.
Two years later in 2001, Sanchez was sentenced to life in prison, with possible parole after 30 years after pleading guilty to first degree murder in Cally Jo's case.
Sanchez was an illegal immigrant from Mexico, who was sentenced to four years in prison in May 2000 for a string of burglaries in the Waseca area.
He had been using the alias Andres Roberto Ortiz and had been arrested on February 18, 2000 after talking to the police and them finding out he had an outstanding arrest warrant.

September 15, 2024
Troy Cook (Nova Scotia)
Troy Cook was born on July 16, 1978 and was 20 years old at the time of his disappearance. On June 11, 1998 around 10 am, Troy's father dropped Troy off near his apartment at 1 Victoria Street, Truro, Nova Scotia.
Around 10:30 am, a Superstore employee Sharon Tucker received a phone call from someone who claimed to be Troy. Sharon said she was certain it was Troy, but that he sounded different. The person on the phone let Sharon know he would not be in to work his evening shift that night.
Other sources state that Troy's father last saw him on June 12, 1998. It is believed that Troy made a phone call from a payphone near the Tim Horton's in Bible Hill, Truro. Troy has never been seen or heard from since.
There have also been no confirmed sightings of Troy. Troy had never mentioned leaving, and both his ID and wallet were found in his apartment. There have not been any transactions made from his bank account. Troy is not known to have had an mental illnesses or engaged in impulsive behaviour.
Troy is described as having brown eyes and black hair, standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 120 lbs. The government of Nova Scotia is offering a reward of $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the disappearance of Troy Cook.

2. Shelly-Anne Bacsu (Alberta)
Shelly-Anne Bacsu was born on April 7, 1967 and was 16 years old when she went missing on May 3, 1983. On that day, Shelly-Anne had been at her boyfriend's house at Sunset Trailer Court in Hinton, Alberta after school.
Shelly-Anne called her mother at 8pm and told her she would be coming home soon. Her mother also stated that her daughter told her she would be home in 15 minutes, her friend was going to pick her up and bring her home, and asked if she could make her a pasta dish that she loved.
Around 9pm, when Shelly-Anne still hadn't arrived home, her boyfriend called her mother and asked if he could speak to Shelly-Anne. Her mother told her boyfriend that wasn't funny, but in that moment said she had a terrible feeling that something had happened.
The boyfriend told Shelly-Anne's mom that her friend ended up not being able to drive her home, so Shelly-Anne began to walk home. She was walking down Highway 16 towards her house off Highway 40.
Shelly-Anne's mother called the police, and her father and brother searched the area for her. Her mother decided to look for her by foot despite it being dark and windy out.
A witness had claimed to see Shelly-Anne walking down the highway earlier in the evening, stating she had been carrying her school books and showed no interest in hitch hiking. Muriel, Shelly-Anne's mother, stated the distance between her boyfriend's house and her house was 4 miles, but her daughter would not have tried to make that.
A few days later some of Shelly-Anne's belongings were found about 3 miles from her house. A jacket, bra, pantyhose, a student union card and a library book that had been checked out that day were found along Highway 40 near the Athabasca River.
Despite interviews, police have never arrested anyone.
The Bacsu family moved from Hinton in 1991, but continued to the search for Shelly. Muriel was frustrated and stated that after the 10 year anniversary of her daughter's disappearance, the police had not contacted her at all for 15 years.
In 2010, authorities looked at Shelly-Anne's case in relation to the Highway of Tears investigation. This investigation involves multiple women going missing along a large stretch of highway in Canada. Shelly is the only Alberta woman on the list.
Authorities have been looking at Shelly's case over the years, following up on new tips, interviews, and testing DNA samples. DNA was found at the scene that belongs to an unknown person who is considered a "person of interest" to police.
It has been 41 years since Shelly-Anne disappeared that night, and her mother, Muriel, is still hopeful for answers to her daughter's whereabouts. Shelly's father died in 2014 from cancer, and her mother would be 80 years old (the last interview I found was in 2020 when her mother was 76 years old).
Shellly-Anne was 4 feet 11 inches and weighed between 80-90 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She was reported to be wearing a burgundy velour sweater, a burgundy and grey jacket, grey sneakers, blue jeans with a stripe down the legs, a green emerald ring and opal earrings. Shelly would be 57 years old today if still alive.
Anyone with information about Shelley’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Hinton RCMP Detachment at (780) 865-2455 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. You can also submit your tip online at www.p3tips.com.

The Murder of Holly Piirainen
Tumblr media
August 21, 2024
Holly Kristen Piirainen was born on January 19, 1983, in Grafton, Massachusetts. On August 5, 1993, 10 year old Holly and her brother had been visiting their grandparents in Sturbridge, MA.
Before Holly disappeared, her family had been staying at a family-owned lakefront cottage in the area. Holly and her brother had gone to a neighbour's house to see puppies, with her brother returning their grandparents cottage without Holly.
Holly's father had last seen her at 11:45 am prior to her and her brother leaving to go see the puppies. He reported Holly missing when she did not return. While waiting for the police, Holly's family searched for her and were aided by local and state police, sheriffs and units from both Connecticut and Rhode Island. One of Holly's shoes had been found by the side of a road.
On October 23, 1993, over two months since Holly disappeared, her remains were found by hunters in Brimfield, MA. Her case remains unsolved.
Investigators believed that Holly's abduction was random, as few people would have known the family was in that area, and not many would know that Holly and her brother were going to look at puppies that day.
Molly Bish, as discussed previously, disappeared on June 27, 2000 while working as a lifeguard on Comins Pond in Warren, MA. Her body was also found in a wooded area in Hampden County on June 9, 2003. Police have considered the two cases could be connected.
Molly had actually written a letter to Holly's family following Holly's disappearance.
A man named David Pouliot is considered a person of interest in both Holly and Molly's cases. On January 3, 2012, it was announced that forensic evidence found near Holly's body had been linked to David, who had died in 2003. It was not disclosed the nature of the forensic evidence, nor the type of testing conducted.
Though David was a person of interest, he was not named as an official suspect. David had hunted and fished around the area where Holly's body had been found quite frequently.
In October 2020, it was reported by a Boston news station, that they had sources that claimed the body of a 22 year old man was exhumed at a cemetery in Hampden County, which may be connected to the investigation and case of Holly.
The man exhumed was reportedly not David Pouliot. Holly's cousin, Leah Jolin said that investigators were searching for a letter placed in the subject's coffin that could advance the case. Jolin also said that the item that was retrieved had suffered water damage after being buried for over two decades.
Now retired police who worked on the case claimed that an unidentified man in a brown pickup truck was likely the murderer. Supposedly, this man was driving down a neighbouring street about 200 yards from where Holly was standing. The car slowed down to look at two teenage girl cousins who were checking their mailbox.
The girls told police later that they feared the man would jump out of the truck and grab one of them. When they went back to the mailbox a second time they saw the man again, he had turned around.
It was suspected that the man likely turned around at the end of South Shore Drive, where Holly was standing. After this second time seeing the man, one of the teen girls returned to their house and noticed the truck a third time. The truck was accelerating past and not looking for the teens girls.
It was discovered by a reporter named Richard Price that this man had a lengthy criminal record, though no crimes that involved children. Price claimed to have interviewed the man's ex-wife, who said he had a sex addiction and often behaved compulsively. The ex-wife did not believe however, that he would chase a 10 year old girl.
This information was also reportedly stated on a podcast. The podcast reporter claimed that a police report and interviewed sources show that the brown pick up truck man had pulled over hours after Holly's abduction by a police officer near the scene of the disappearance. The man's driver's license was suspended, but the police thought it was current and let him go.
Reportedly, a family member of Holly's said on the podcast that this subject had identified a detail about the t-shirt Holly was wearing that day, a detail that was different from what the public knew.
The Holly Piirainen Scholarship Fund was established by Holly's family in her memory. Holly is also included in a group memorial called the Garden of Peace in Boston, which memorializes Massachusetts victims of homicide.
In March 2021, Holly's family issues a statement urging any information about Holly's disappearance and death and the helpfulness of DNA testing after it has helped solve the murder of Virginia Hannon, a 59 year old woman murdered in Plymouth County in 1984.
DNA has lately been solving many cases that would've otherwise been deemed unsolvable now that we have the technology to do so. Many are encouraging others to upload their DNA to help solve cases. The more DNA in the database, the more chance forensic investigators have at comparing data and tracing family trees.
Both Holly and Molly Bish's cases remain unsolved.

The Murder of Molly Bish & the Connection to Holly Piirainen
Tumblr media
August 20, 2024
Molly Bish was born on August 2, 1983 in Warren, Massachusetts. At the time of her death, she was 16 years old and was working as a lifeguard at Comins Pond.
On June 26, 2000, Molly's mother Magi, noticed a mustached man in a white car parked in the lot of the beach where Molly's lifeguard post was. He seemed suspicious at the time, but Molly's mother did not think anything further until after her daughter had disappeared.
The next day, June 27, 2000, Magi drove her daughter Molly near the lifeguard station. Magi reported that she had not seen the strange man there that day, however, another witness reported that he saw a man matching that description in the pond's parking lot just minutes before Molly arrived.
A local worker reportedly saw a similar car parked at a cemetery connected to the pond by a path. Magi was the last known person to see Molly before she disappeared. A few hours later, police contacted Molly's parents to tell them that no lifeguard had been on duty that day and that Molly's belongings had been left unattended at her station.
An extensive search was done, and eventually it became the largest and most expensive search for a missing person ever done in Massachusetts. Molly's case was featured on many tv shows including America's Most Wanted, Unsolved Mysteries, and 48 Hours.
A hunter had seen a blue bathing suit in the woods on Whiskey Hill in Palmer, in the late fall of 2002. In May 2003, this hunter mentioned it and the police were contacted. A search of the area found Molly's body on June 9, 2003, almost three years later.
Molly's body had been found 5 miles from her family home. No cause of death was determined, but investigators believe Molly was murdered and her remains were buried.
There have been a few suspects looked into in relation to Molly's murder. In 2005, a Connecticut man who had been charged with attempted kidnapping in New York was briefly looked into.
Later, in 2009, a man named Rodney Stanger, then residing in Florida, who had been convicted of murdering his girlfriend, had actually lived in Southbridge, MA, a few miles from the town of Warren for more than 20 years.
Rodney had moved to Florida after Molly's murder. Following Rodney's girlfriends murder, Crystal Morrison (the couple had been together for 20 years), Crystal's sister alerted authorities.
Rodney was known to have a similar white car to the one seen the day before Molly disappeared. He was known to also fish in Comins Pond and hunt in the woods where Molly's body had been found. Rodney also matched the description that Magi Bish had reported, however he has not been charged in the case.
While Rodney was being investigated into Molly's murder, he was also questioned about a 1993 murder of a girl named Holly Piirainen. Holly went missing from Sturbridge, and was Molly's age. Molly had actually written a letter of hope to Holly's parents in 1993. Rodney has not been charged in Holly's case either.
In 2012, forensic evidence led authorities to a man named David Pouliot to Holly's case. However, David had died in 2003.
In November 2011, a man named Gerald Battistoni was named a suspect in Molly's death. Gerald had worked as an informant for the Eastern Hampden County Narcotic Task Force. Gerald had spent time in prison for repeatedly raping a teenage girl in the early 90's. He attempted suicide in prison after newspaper articles identified him as a suspect in both Molly and Holly's cases.
Gerald had a criminal record dating back to 1980, had been in the area where Molly's body had been discovered, and resembles the composite sketch of the man Magi saw in the parking lot before her daughter disappeared.
DNA testing was asked to be completed. Gerald died in November 2014. There is no clear answers as to what came of the DNA, but it must not have matched or been completed.
A new person of interest was announced on June 3, 2021, a registered sex offender named Francis P. Sumner Sr. He was found dead inside his home in Spencer, MA, on May 4, 2016. He had a lengthy criminal record but it is unclear why he was connected to the case as a suspect.
On July 9, 1982, Francis was convicted of aggravated rape and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 15-18 years on the rape charge, to be served concurrently with 9-10 years on the kidnapping charges. The earliest he could have been released from prison would have been in 1997. It is unclear how long Francis was incarcerated.
No arrests have been made in Molly Bish's case, however Francis is considered a person of interest. Investigator's have not given up on the case, and encourage the use of familial DNA, hoping that forensic evidence may lead to some answers eventually. Molly's family advocates for child abduction awareness. There is an anonymous tip line that's open for information.
In 2004, Magi and John Bish founded The Molly Bish Center and Foundation in collaboration with Anna Maria College.
Holly Piirainen, the girl who was killed 7 years before Molly, was also found in a wooden area near Hampden County. Police have considered that the two cases could be related. Some of Molly's letter to Holly's family reads,
"I am very sorry. I wish I could make it up to you. Holly is a very pretty girl. She is almost as tall as me. I wish I knew Holly. I hope they found her."
Both cases remain unsolved.
Holly Piirainen's case will be posted tomorrow.

The Disappearance of Amy Lynn Bradley
Tumblr media
August 19, 2024
Amy Lynn Bradley was born on May 12, 1974 in Petersburg, Virginia. At the time of her disappearance, Amy was a 23 year old graduate of Longwood University, having completed a degree in Physical Education. Amy attended university with a scholarship in basketball, and was a strong swimmer, previously having worked as a lifeguard.
Amy was about to begin a job at a computer consulting firm. She decided to go on a cruise with her family on the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship, Rhapsody of the Seas, as a celebration for herself.
The cruise ship was going to Curaçao, an island under the Kingdom of the Netherlands. On March 21, 1998, Amy and her family boarded the cruise. Before disappearing, assumingly on March 23, Amy and her brother Brad had been drinking late and dancing at a Mardi Gras nightclub party on the ship. They had been drinking with the ship's band, Blue Orchid. One band member, a man named Alister Douglas, also known as Yellow, had been drinking with Amy.
Alister claimed that he had left the party around 1 am. There had been a videographer there as well, Chris Fenwick, who had gotten a moment on film of Amy and Alister dancing.
Brad decided to go back to their cabin around 3:35 am. The ship's lock system had recorded that Brad returned to the family's cabin at this time. Amy followed him 5 minutes later. Brad claimed that him and Amy had sat on the suite's balcony talking before going to bed. He said Amy stayed awake longer before she went to sleep.
On March 24, 1998, between 5:15-5:30 am, Amy's father Ron woke up and went to check on his children. He saw Amy sleeping on a lounge chair of the cabin balcony. Ron claimed that he could see Amy's legs from her hips down, but he had dozed back off to sleep. When he got up again at 6am, Amy was missing along with her cigarettes and lighter.
Ron said he went to find her but couldn't. He said it was unlike Amy to just leave and not tell anyone where she was going. Ron searched the common areas of the cruise, and woke up the rest of the family. Amy was considered missing at 6:30am.
Amy's family reported her missing to the crew onboard, and pleaded with them to keep the 2000 other passengers from leaving the cruise ship and to make an announcement to help find Amy. However, they were told it was too early to make ship-wide announcement. After a majority of passengers disembarked the ship, an announcement was made at 7:50am.
Between 12:15pm and 1pm, the cruise staff searched through the ship but there was no sign of Amy. There was a 4 day search conducted by the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard that ended on March 27, 1998. The Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines chartered a boat to continue to look for Amy. Helicopters and a radar plane were used in the search.
Authorities originally believed that Amy had either fallen overboard or died by suicide. This speculation was soon discredited as Amy was considered a strong swimmer and her body has never been found. There is no evidence of foul play.
There have been many supposed sightings of Amy since she went missing.
On the morning of Amy's disappearance, two passengers told Ron that they saw a woman who looked like Amy taking an elevator to the ship's deck with cigarettes and a lighter. This information has never lead to anything however.
There was a cab driver who said he had seen a woman matching Amy's description. The driver said the woman approached him and said she urgently needed a phone. This sighting has never been truly confirmed.
In August 1998, 5 months after her disappearance, a Canadian computer engineer claimed to have seen Amy walking with two men on a beach in Curaçao. The witness said the woman was constantly trying to get his attention, but he lost sight of her at a nearby cafe. The woman's tattoos were supposedly identical to the one's Amy had. The man claimed he had been 2 feet away from her and was certain it was her.
In January 1999, a US Navy petty officer claimed to have seen a woman at a brothel in Curaçao who claimed to be Amy Bradley. He said the woman begged him for help, saying she was being held against her will and was not allowed to leave. The man did not report the incident initially because he was afraid of his career in the Navy knowing he had been in a brothel.
He only contacted Amy's family after he had retired and saw her photo in a magazine. There's no evidence supporting this claim.
In March 2005, a witness named Judy Maurer claimed to have seen Amy in a department store bathroom in Barbados. She saw the woman enter the bathroom accompanied by three men who threatened her if she did not follow through on a deal. Judy said after the men left she approached the woman, who told her her first name was Amy and that she was from Virginia. The men then came back in and took her away.
There was a composite sketch of the three men and the woman based on Judy's account.
In the fall of 1999, Amy's parents got an email from a self-proclaimed Navy Seal Solider named Frank Jones. Frank told them that he was a former special officer who might be able to rescue Amy. He said his team had seen Amy being held by Colombian personnel in a housing complex surrounded by barbed wire. They gave an accurate description of Amy's tattoos and sang the lullaby that Amy's mother used to sing for her.
Over months, Frank would give the Bradley family news and provide reports on sightings of Amy. Frank told them they would attempt a rescue, but he needed more money. The Bradley's sent him a total of $210,000, with the National Missing Children's Organization helping them. They never received a call from Frank again.
In February 2002, Frank was prosecuted and charged with defrauding the Bradley's. Frank pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
There was a jawbone found in Aruba in 2010 that had washed ashore. This was initially thought to be the jawbone of Natalee Holloway, a woman who had gone missing from Aruba on a class trip in 2005. Once it was determined to not be that of Natalee, authorities ceased any other testing, despite others who had gone missing in the Caribbean. It was said that the bone is human and was likely Caucasian.
Amy's parents appeared on an episode of Dr. Phil on November 17, 2005. There was an image of a young woman who looked like Amy that had been emailed to the Bradley's was shown on the show. It suggested that Amy could have been sold in sex trafficking. There were two photos sent to the Bradley's via email, the woman in the photos resembled Amy. These photos were observed by an organization that tries to track victims of sex trafficking on sites that feature sex workers. The woman in the photo looks "distraught and despondent". Her name was apparently Jas.
There are many theories about what happened to Amy Bradley. Some believe she was sold into human trafficking in the Caribbean. There was inconsistencies of the story that Alister, the band member told versus what the CCTV footage shows. Many people also think a waiter was involved.
Throughout the night, Amy's family was approached by the same waiter who asked them to pass a note to Amy from him asking her to go drinking with him once they got to shore. There was a professional photographer that had printed out photos of the cruise, but there was no photos of Amy, making people believe someone had purposely removed them.
Authorities also considered that Amy had been murdered on the ship and thrown overboard. There's no real evidence suggesting this besides the jawbone that washed ashore in Aruba.
Amy was legally declared dead on March 24, 2010, 12 years after she had gone missing.
The FBI currently is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who has information that could potentially lead to the recovery of Amy or leads to an arrest or conviction of the person(s) responsible for Amy's disappearance. Amy's family, on top of this, is awarding $250,000 for information leading to her safe return and $50,000 for information leading to her current location.
There was renewned attention given to Amy's disappearance after Natalee Holloway went missing in 2005.

Arthur "Buddy" Schumacher
Tumblr media
August 18, 2024
Arthur Louis "Buddy" Schumacher was born on September 2, 1916 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to Art Schumacher and Florence May Zapp Schumacher. Buddy had an older sister, Jeanette Alice who was born in 1914 or 1915.
Buddy went missing on July 24, 1925. The 8 year old left his house with some neighbourhood boys around 9 am and never came home. He was last seen by 3 of his friends after they got off a freight train they had gotten on to get a ride down to a nearby swimming hole.
Searches were led for the missing boy for 7 weeks, until his body was found just a mile from his house on September 16. His clothing had been torn and there was a handkerchief shoved down his throat. The police looked into many leads, but found nothing substantial.
Two of Buddy's friends had identified a man named Edward Vreeland who had apparently chased them on the day that Buddy went missing. The friends claimed they had run away from him, but Buddy did not.
Edward Vreeland was arrested two days after Buddy had disappeared, taken into custody. He was questioned in relation to the boy's disappearance but claimed he did not know anything.
In November 1925, two months after Buddy's body had been discovered, 21 year old William Brandt, who was serving time at the Stillwater Minnesota state penitentiary for murdering a young boy in St. Paul under similar circumstances, confessed to killing Buddy.
However, there were discrepancies between the statements he made and the facts of the disappearance and murder. During the investigation into Buddy's murder, detectives discovered that there were at least 4 other children who had been molested or attacked near Wauwatosa.
There was a book written about Buddy Schumacher titled, "Murder in Wauwatosa: The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher" written by Paul J. Hoffman, a former resident of the area. The book was published in 2012. Paul's father, Raymond Hoffman, had actually purchased a house at 8118 Hillcrest Dr in Wauwatosa in 1969, from Buddy's father. The Schumachers had moved into that house two years after Buddy had died, in 1918. Raymond Hoffman owned this house until 2004.
It is not known what happened to Buddy the day he was murdered, and no one has ever served time for the crime. The Schumachers went without justice for their son. It has almost been 108 years since this crime occurred.

Missing: Stacy Lucien "Luke" DiLenardi
Tumblr media
August 17, 2024
Stacy DiLenardi was 30 years old when he disappeared in November of 2005. Stacy had lived in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada his whole life, but had moved to Sault Ste. Marie (Garden River) to begin a new job. The job was working as a technician at the Ontario Forest Research Institute (OFRI). Stacy still always had contact with his family in Sudbury, despite the move.
On November 27, 2005, Stacy talked to his father on the phone. On November 28, the next day, he went to work wearing beige pants and a biege/khaki vest over a blue sleeved sweater. Stacy left work for lunch that day, driving his 2003 red Chevrolet Cavalier to Sewell's Gas Bar.
This gas bar was located on the Rankin Reserve (436 Frontenac St). At 1:12 pm, Stacy bought some Player's Light cigarettes. After this, Stacy was never heard from or seen again. No one knows what happened following him buying cigarettes.
Investigators searched extensively for Stacy after he disappeared. On December 1, 2005, only three days later, Stacy's abandoned car was found "disabled" 7km in on Connor Road in Duncan Township, 13.5 km from where he was last seen.
There was reports that this location is considered a snowmobile trail 15 km behind Garden River First Nation Reserve. There was no evidence found, and the search was called off due to heavy snow.
In April 2006, about 5 months after Stacy disappeared, there was a second search that spanned over 20 days. Sudbury Police reported that up to 55 trained searchers from Sault Search and Rescue, OPP and the Sault Ste. Marie City Police searched heavily.
OPP helicopters were used, along with snow machines and specialized OPP canine handlers with cadaver dogs. The initial area where Stacy's car had been found was searched again as well. Law enforcement claimed to not just be looking for Stacy himself, rather any evidence that would suggest he walked off, or was deceased.
In May 2006 the search was called off. No evidence of Stacy's whereabouts were ever found. At the time. of his disappearance, Stacy had only been living in Sault Ste. Marie for less than three months.
Stacy DiLenardi is described as wearing glasses, known to smoke menthol cigarettes, thin build, standing at 5'8 inches tall, 155-160 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair to his ears, balding on the top.
Stacy is also described as having psoriasis, a skin condition, on his arms, legs, and back. He took medication for thyroid and depression. He had recently changed his name to Luke legally.
