My irl friend of 10 years is going through an extremely rough situation that he is unintentionally yet actively making worse not only for himself but for three of us (me, my bf, and my bff) who are really trying our damnedest to help him

I think there is something seriously wrong going on with him but at the same time he's been a major asshole to my bff throughout this whole thing and he seems incredibly reluctant to take any advice from any of us so my patience and sympathy for him is incredibly fraught rn

Man idk I spent four entire hours talking with him over dinner trying to suggest things that I thought might help but he kept deflecting or making excuses as to why he couldn't or didn't want to take my advice...he told me afterwards that it was helpful to talk to me (and I'm glad!!) but you guys I felt like a milked cow like a literal husk of a man.......I have never been so tired in my life after a single conversation
