id have a lot more patience for the things i like in zizek if his sexual conservatism wasnt so clearly co-extensive with his politics not incidental to them. When adorno is reactionary abt sex atleast he's dismissive instead of indignant, when reich is wrong about sex atleast he's clearly a closeted homosexual

re: this post, highlighting JKR's antisemitic shirt rebranded with her own ip
a lot of the notes are acting like the original tweet is "stupid" for not connecting the dots that it's still antisemitic even though it's harry potter.
y'all. the original tweet is by Alison Rumfitt, an author in England who is a trans woman, and who notably writes horror revolving around contemporary fascism in the UK, often with extremely obvious references to JKR's political influence in said horror novels.
she knows. that's why she constructed the tweet that way. she is intentionally making it impossible for people to not connect the dots, while wording it in such a way to avoid prosecution from libel laws for calling a spade a spade.
give trans women a little credit, please. you are not smarter or better than her for having read her tweet and come to the conclusion she intended to communicate.

like i'm soooo tired of this conversation around centering jewish feelings when jewish people are not the group currently going through a genocide - "antisemitism is on the rise" is only something you could possibly say or believe if you ignored the very actual rampant rise in islamophobia and not once have i heard someone say the phrase "centering palestinian feelings" because even through empathizing with their victimhood it's seen as an abstract suffering that's affecting how jewish people are being treated.. ridiculous - it is not the people in palestine's fault that the people who are slaughtering them are jewish and claim to be doing so because they are jewish - that's the actual antisemitism you should be taking up arms against not the tightrope you force everyone else in the world to walk when speaking about gaza

One of the things that bugs me about conservatives is the near-complete disconnect between what they say their values are and what they actually practice. So you'll get, say, Chesterton's Fence-type arguments about it's vain and dangerous to, say, redefine marriage or tolerate trans people because we don't know what effects it will have on society, and then on the other hand you have them embracing Silicon Valley "disruptive innovation" ideology. Like, sorry, what is "disruptive innovation" other than a gang of rich people running around with sledgehammers attacking every Chesterton's Fence they can find?
So okay, yeah, social reform is evil and dangerous when someone proposes it as a means of improving people's lives, but it's cool and fine when people just go ahead and implement it to make themselves richer. Cool, cool, cool.

Taking care of the disabled and injured is human nature actually. We have evidence of our ancestors caring for folks with disabilities. We're a cooperative species that takes care of their own. If our starving, weary, and hunted ancestors could care for the disabled members of their tribe, in this era of modern medicine and abundant resources we absolutely can afford to do the same.

I missed most of the Iraq war due to being a baby, but every time I read about it I start wondering why we aren’t all talking about it all of the time

trump's big beautiful bill, which just passed congress, expands ICE's budget from $9.6 billion to over $170 billion, of which $45 billion is appropriated for new detention centers. not only is this budget bigger than the budget of the federal bureau of prisons, but it's greater than the military expenditure of all countries besides america and china ($246 billion), giving more money to ICE than the russian military receives ($129 billion). it will completely remake american society

I am begging people who still say “Manifest Destiny” for any reason to understand that it means, very literally and without exaggeration, “White Power”

purity culture and media illiteracy in the form of "fiction = reality" is on the rise because conservatism is on the rise. the two are utterly interlaced and 'fandom' purity culture is 100% a way to the alt right pipeline. But none of you are ready to accept that 🤡

Hi, I searched your posts so I’m sorry if I missed anything, but I was wondering if you knew of any book recommendations that discuss asexual culture/history. Thanks!
I actually just finished a great book on the subject!
Tumblr media
Ace by Angela Chen:
“An engaging exploration of what it means to be asexual in a world that's obsessed with sexual attraction, and what we can all learn about desire and identity by using an ace lens to see the world What exactly is sexual attraction and what is it like to go through the world not experiencing it? What does asexuality reveal about consent, about compromise, about the structures of society? This exceedingly accessible guide to asexuality shows that the issues that aces face—confusion around sexual activity, the intersection of sexuality and identity, navigating different needs in relationships—are conflicts that all of us need to address as we move through the world. Through interviews, cultural criticism, and memoir, ACE invites all readers to consider big-picture issues through the lens of asexuality, because every place that sexuality touches our world, asexuality does too. Journalist Angela Chen uses her own journey of self-discovery as an asexual person to unpretentiously educate and vulnerably connect with readers, effortlessly weaving analysis of sexuality and societally imposed norms with interviews of ace people. Among those included are the woman who had blood tests done because she was convinced that "not wanting sex" was a sign of serious illness, and the man who grew up in an evangelical household and did everything "right," only to realize after marriage that his experience of sexuality had never been the same as that of others. Also represented are disabled aces, aces of color, non-gender-conforming aces questioning whether their asexuality is a reaction against stereotypes, and aces who don't want romantic relationships asking how our society can make room for them.”
