captain america brave new world review, i guess

let me start this by saying i didn't really know what to expect going into it, my expectations weren't in the gutter but they weren't high either, i was just praying it wouldn't be bad so i guess i didn't 100% disappoint myself, i wasn't that impressed by the trailers (although i was still very curious to see how it would turn out), and the reviews once they started coming out did not help my expectations whatsoever, nonetheless, despite everything, i ended up seeing it today.

it's mid.

that's probably the best way to describe CA:BNW, it's just simply...mid. there's a few good moments and some that aren't.

i'm gonna try to keep it spoiler-free but let's go

i feel like the villain could've been really interesting and i'll admit for a MOMENT i thought so until we finally get HOW he's getting people to do the shit they're doing in the movie, which by then i just kinda stopped caring, because how he's doing it came off to me as incredibly basic, and the way he's defeated in the end (not even a spoiler because, it's an mcu movie the formula is pretty obvious), just adds fuel to the fire.

and the pacing is like..WAY too fast. wtf were they even trying to go for with this? there's one thing going on and all of a sudden this causes a lot MORE things to go on, resulting in a ton of b-plots, you're jumping from place to place over and over, and it kinda left the main story unfulfilling for me, bc it's trying to explain too many things in the span of 2 hours.

there are also characters put into the film..and then there's not much really..DONE with them to make them even worth being there in the first place. for example, giancarlo esposito plays sidewinder in this movie, and tbh i don't think there was much..done with him. he feels insanely underused in my eyes.

is there good stuff about this movie?

yeah, i'd say so. for starters, i'd say anthony mackie as sam wilson/captain america is done really well. i think he makes an extremely worthy successor to steve!

i think the cinematography is neat (except for one shot where the lighting was just extremely bright that shit was insanely distracting, yeah i get that shot was inside a plane but still)

one thing i'll say i just didn't like nor dislike is the action scenes. just didn't seem that special to me

CA:BNW is mid. there's good stuff about it, bad stuff, and stuff i just didn't care about.
