Great post πŸ‘ Of course, I love the Mycroft one most...
Sherlock (BBC) characters being on the receiving end of (physical) affection.
Tumblr media
β•”.β˜…. .═══════════════════════╗
Includes characters in order: Sherlock, John, Mycroft, Moriarty, Molly, Irene.
warnings: none
contents: romantic?, fluff, gn! reader, (mild) implementation of my own headcanons, set in a time period where you are close with the characters already
A/N: Hello to all the still-existing Sherlock fans! (Incase y'all haven't been fully wiped out by the meteor) This is my first ever work revolving it and I'm glad to be able to have published. A little fretful about it, haha. But enjoy!

SHERLOCK HOLMES
Tumblr media
Our first individual is a peculiar one indeed!
Anything involving his curls would likely have him respond blankly, he won't voice out discomfort depending on the setting but he will ask you what you want from him (moment of confusion). Through this, You may learn that he neglects it on most occasions. You'll find that it's.. quite tangled. I mean, You can't solve cases while doing meticulous haircare rituals at the same time now can you?
Body parts such as his hands are a hit or miss, it really does vary on the circumstances and includes hugging, snuggling up to him, etc. For the most part, Sherlock voices dislike of touches because it displays him being vulnerable, implying that his guard is down. But catch him in a certain mood and you'll find him leaning into your affections.
His neck is an erogenous zone weakspot overall. Only touch it if you wish for a visceral reaction. (like a yelp) How fun!
════════════════════════════
JOHN WATSON
Tumblr media
For a former soldier who has served in a ruthless war, this guy is a sweetheart.
Oh? You want to hold his hand? Sure! You want to hug him? He will pull you in for the most loving bear hug you've ever had the fortune of experiencing. You're not the only one who has fun! He'll suprise you too either with quick cheek kisses or hand holding.
In short, John is down for anything so long as it's saved for appropiate situations and/or settings (Unlike Sherlock who struggles to read the room). If you want to go beyond just those actions, you might want to behave first until the two of you get home.
What? I'm talking about spooning and the like! Get your mind out of the gutter. >:(
════════════════════════════
MYCROFT HOLMES
Tumblr media
(I do not find enough gifs of this glorious man!)
Following in the footsteps of his brother, Mycroft is neutral. He doesn't reciprocrate. He watches you cling to him with a 'hmph' before making an attempt to brush you off (gently).
But.
Deep down.
He is internally screaming.
You don't take down the carefully-constructed, well-woven facade of his especially with just one hug. Or do you? Well, Mycroft has been lonely more than he likes to let on. The daily company of British government figures and work does little if not nothing to soothe. Even with his efforts of doing menial tasks at home, the yearning doesn't stop nagging from the back of his mind.
The hug did something to him so keep going. Maybe he'll budge and let you inches nearer than the distance you would always maintain. This even raises the possibility of holding hands with the great and stoic Mycroft Holmes.
════════════════════════════
JIM MORIARTY
Tumblr media
Oh now you're just being adorable! Grabbing at him like that... But just so you know, If it were anyone else then they would've been found (spare the gruesome details) out of this world.
Moriarty doesn't mind. Not at all. Seeing someone get so forward with him is a breath of fresh air from the meek, shrunken figures he's used to seeing.
He took that moment as his Go-sign, now he'll be trying to get you to sit in his lap every chance he can get. You're his extra boost of focus, right next to boredom and raging hatred. And in this close proximity, he can say to you his snarky remarks and puns about his targets. (And you have to like it)
════════════════════════════
MOLLY HOOPER
Tumblr media
(she's so cutee)
Molly can't believe it, atleast for herself. She can't recall the last time anyone has this been interested in her enough to perform such acts.
Needless to say, she's into it and is over the moon. She'll be returning your affections back to you in no time! She merely needed that little push into confidence.
════════════════════════════
IRENE ADLER
Tumblr media
This woman here knows all about touching, alright.
The problem being, she's not used to genuine relationships outside the bedroom. So gentle caresses and cheek kisses ironically fluster her to an extent. But she'll catch up, as she learns quickly.
So, she does a bit of toying; Irene would wear a new color of lipstick everyday, and everytime, she leaves a kiss mark on different parts of your body. Good luck trying to get rid of the ones on more visible areas, or don't. She may or may not give you another.
════════════════════════════
END.

Ooo, this one was a puzzler!
I, eventually, went for Mycroft. I think β€” if Sherlock thought it worth his while with the right kind of teenager then he could actually be very engaging, however β€” for the most part β€” it would bore him and he would probably forget to show up half the time if occupied elsewhere.
Mycroft however would see it through to the bitter end. Whether he would agree to be involved in the first place is another matter, but β€” paired with someone who genuinely wants to learn β€” I could see him being a methodical and effective teacher.

Just watched 'Boss Baby' with my children. Perhaps, by this point of my life, I'm just Holmes obsessed β€” but I challenge you not to watch this baby and think "Mycroft!" 🀣
Add in the fact the other brother dons a deerstalker at one point, the 7-year age gap between the brothers and the obsession with pirates...
If you've not seen it, I do recommend πŸ˜‚

I voted for Mycroft. For Sherlock, I think food is merely sustenance β€” you eat because you need to. I think, when involved in a case, he probably often forgets to eat at all. Mycroft, on the other hand, I think enjoys food. I agree that he probably has refined his pallet over the years and enjoys fine foods and cuisine, HOWEVER, whilst he would not admit it (because, you know, sentiment πŸ˜†) there is something comforting in simplicity. A good shepherds pie or a British pudding. It reminds him of simpler times, before everything was quite so heavy.

Can I just say, being the long-standing Mycroft fan that I am, the amount of pressure I felt when I finally got to do the official London BBC Sherlock escape room was immense. πŸ˜‚
The premise? Mycroft has been kidnapped by Moriaty. Sherlock is out of the country (but is available for telephone contact and sarcastic commentary...) Mycroft’s life depends on you.
Suffice it to say, I was a woman possessed! πŸ˜… And yes, we managed to rescue him... with two minutes to spare!

I once worked with Young People in the Care System. I was 23, but looked younger than my years. I'd come in dressed to play outside sports with one of the boys β€” wearing old jeans, t-shirt and trainers. When I got there, it transpired that we were a staff member down and someone was needed to take one of our 15-year-old girls for her court hearing. It fell to me. There was no chance to go home and change.
As we sat in court β€” me 5'4", in my scruffiest clothes; her, considerably taller than me and beautifully presented in a smart trouser suit and immaculate hair and makeup β€” I was starkly aware that the majority of people there thought me the young offender! 🀣
My fellow bitches under 5'5. Whatever the money, do not take a job working at a middle school. A fellow adult tried to put me in detention last month and would NOT give up until I showed her my badge proving Yes, The School Hired Me To Work Here. It's not meant for people our height.

I loved this scene because, for the first time, someone is actually looking out for Mycroft and has realised that β€” at this moment in particular β€” he really needs that.

When I'm writing, it's often familial or platonic. As an asexual myself, these are my most comfortable bonds. I touch on romantic relationships too, but they are rarely my main focus.

Mycroft. That's not to say he will, but he could if needed to. Mycroft has social etiquette down to a fine art β€” not because he necessarily understands or values it β€” but because many years of observation and experience have refined his skills. Whether he opts to use them or not is another matter entirely.

What are your thoughts on Mycroft? It has always seemed to me that β€” in his own way β€” his decisions relating to his brother come from good intentions; even if rather unorthodox! πŸ˜…
Curious as to your relationship with him now. Especially as he's soon to be your brother-in-law!
"Soon to be your brother-in-law." I’m not going to lie...that bit gave me a slight chill. Just a little one.
But in all honesty, Mycroft’s (@atamh) got his flaws. Especially that whole β€˜I-know-what’s-best-for-Sherlock’ complex of his. Still, I know for a fact he’s got a heart in there somewhere. Shocking, I know. But true.

He's incredible as Mycroft. Mycroft is such a careful, closed off character (at least publicly, but Mark Gatiss gave him so much depth. Those small reactions β€” the slightly downturned eyes, the slight furrowing of a brow.
I would argue it was the opposite of overacting. I think he was so incredibly effective with so little that he made it look easy!
I see many people saying Mark overacts when he plays Mycroft.Β
Or, in general? I’m not sure.
Before I decided to watch the last season last December, I watched the Father. Boy, was I enchanted or what? And not because of Sir Anthony Hopkins (who has won an oscar for leading actor for 16 minutes of chewing the scenery in the Silence of the Lambs, not that he wasn’t great in the Father- second oscar and all awards), but because of Mark.Β
What a different performance than Mycroft!Β
Not a lot of screentime, but it prompted me to rewatch Sherlock.
So yes, it is different, but this over the top character he has built in Mycroft fits the role. That’s who Mycroft is, it’s not Mark who overacts, it’s Mycroft who’s over the top… imho.Β

My sister has never watched Sherlock until doing so with me this evening. Nor has she heard of him β€” it would seem β€” as her comment of "is he a people reader???" in the first ten minutes told me πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚
She still impressed me though. On the first meeting of Mycroft, I asked "what do you think of who we've just met?" To which she replied, "another Sherlock. Same skill set. Possibly sibling?"
Always feared she was cleverer than me... 🀣

It's my headcanon that Mycroft developed the Mind Palace and taught it to his brother after the Redbeard incident.
Mycroft, himself only 14 or 15 at the time, felt so completely helpless watching his little brother suffering the aftereffects and nightmares of that event. Unable to offer comfort in any usual way, he instead develops a science of it; somewhere Sherlock can "place" the thoughts and memories that trouble him to re-examine them when he feels able to do so.
Mycroft did not anticipate however quite how deeply his brother would bury them.

Mycroft? Ha! No. He'd be 10 steps ahead of me and have a world of minions at his call; I'll just wave the proverbial white flag and come quietly!
I'm also pretty fond of Sirius Black, who can do magic, but is also already dead... πŸ‘
Also, Loki... No.

I've been thinking about Mycroft’s decisions surrounding Eurus. In "The Final Problem," Mycroft states that Eurus has been in Sherrinford since early childhood. Let's say, for arguments sake, that Eurus was around 7 at this time, that would make Mycroft only 15 β€” too young to have been the driving force in any way behind the decision to have everyone believe she was dead. Indeed, he tells us that the idea was Uncle Rudi's initially ("what Uncle Rudi began, I saw fit to continue.")
This has got me thinking about at which point Mycroft became party to the secret. Did he know from the start? Did he work it out, or did Rudi tell him? Did he initially believe her dead too? What was his initial reaction to finding out?
I've written fics on this, but I have SO many questions! I'd love to get stuck in a lift with Mark Gatiss. πŸ˜‚

Oh I think we can safely say that, yes, Mycroft would not have come away from Sherrinford without considerable and ongoing issue. To be dealt with privately, of course (it's Mycroft, after all!) but I think nightmares are likely a given.
That one line β€” Sherlock asking Greg to make sure he's looked after β€” tells us so much of where Sherlock knows his brother to be mentally following their ordeal.
We never really see the aftermath for Mycroft, but the man was annihilated throughout that episode. Every decision he'd ever made, every decision, the very principles on which he has based himself and his choices, all crash down around him and leave him standing in the rubble.
Mycroft is not ok.
So you know how in TFP, when Eurus drugs John, Sherlock and Mycroft in the scene where Sherlock holds the gun to himself instead of shooting Mycroft? It’s revealed by Greg that Eurus didn’t hurt Myc, but she just left him in her old cell. Idk if I’m right in thinking this but I THINK that’s the cell with the dead body in- the guy who shot himself in the first test. If this is the case, how fucking traumatic would that have been? Being TRAPPED in a room with a dead body that is the result of your fuck ups. And if im wrong and that happened to be in a different room, and Myc was trapped in the cell alone, that still would’ve been traumatic. Either way he would’ve been stuck in the silence with his own thoughts as his only company, stuck in the room that he essentially β€˜trapped’ his sister in. Do you think post-TFP, Mycroft has nightmares? Does he see himself back in that cell when he sleeps at night? Does he dream anymore? Does the guilt kick in heavier at night when it hits him what he has done to his sister? I think he probably starts talking to himself, quietly under his breath, just so he’s not stuck in the silence again. Maybe he even tries everything he can possibly do to get Sherlock to keep him company, to keep those around him from leaving, because he can’t bear to be alone again, because when he’s alone, he’s back in her cell. Back in her cell again. I just think it’s interesting to think about. I’ve made a post before on Sherlock’s nightmares post-TFP, and for some reason I just hadn’t thought about the possibility of Mycroft’s nightmares too until now.
(Extra: if the dead body is in a separate cell, if Mycroft is alone when Eurus locks him in her old cell, do you think he hallucinates him? Like Macbeth and Banquo style? John and Mary style? Does he see the cold eyes of a dead man staring at him from the corner of the room, constantly reminding him of the lives lost because of him? Mycroft may be The Ice Man but we all know he has the biggest heart of them all, bar Sherlock. It’s like Sherlock says, he’s not as strong as he thinks he is.)
