Bill Gates backed startup claims to reduce carbon emissions from large scale industries
Heliogen, a clean energy-based company has invented a technology to concentrate solar energy to achieve temperatures of more than 1000 degrees celsius. This can be used to create and replace fuels for industrial purposes. At these temperature ranges, Heliogen can replace the fossil fuels used in industries, thus reducing the depletion of fossil fuels and also Carbon Dioxide emissions into the environment. They currently plan to implement this technology in industries producing Cement, petrochemicals, and steel. The startup aims to invent the world’s first technology to replace fossil fuels using solar power by creating this ultra-high-temperature energy source and hence, taking a major step to reduce climate change. Heliogen is a startup backed by Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and in his words “If we are going to get to zero carbon emission overall, we have a lot of inventing to do. I’m pleased to be an early backer of Bill Gross’s novel solar concentration technology. Its capacity to reach high temperatures required for these processes is a promising development in the quest to one-day replacing fossil fuels”.
Tumblr media
Bill Gates backed startup claims to reduce carbon emissions from large scale industries The technology which leads to the production of such a mass amount of heat is explained by Heliogen on their website. They have a patented closed-loop control system (AI) which direct the sunlight on to this AI-controlled array of mirrors. These are called Heliostats. The captured sunlight is equivalent to the light from 1200 suns is then directed to the tower and receiver which converts this into heat energy. With this technology, according to Heliogen, the historically dirty processes like ore roasting, refining, sintering and calcining which are done in industries like cement, mining and refining can be made greener and avoid polluting the environment and depletion of fossil fuels. The reason for this being a groundbreaking invention is that the usual solar power produced heat energy can give out only up to 545-degree Celsius of heat. This could only be used in small scale energy production such as electricity for residential and educational institutes. With Artificial Intelligence controlled mirrors, it is possible to get enough energy required for industrial and transportation purposes. The founder and CEO Bill Gross said “ The world has a limited window to reduce greenhouse emission… with low cost, ultra high temperature processes, we have an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to solving the climate crisis”. He wants to scale up the business as soon as possible to reduce the damage done by burning of fossil fuels. Cement industry is the most suited for Heliogen's technology because this industry alone contributes to 7% of total carbon dioxide emissions in the world. Let us hope that such initiatives from entrepreneurs and inventors would save our planet from disasters caused by climate change and leave a beautiful and livable earth for our descendants. Microsoft expands Airband Initiative project
Tumblr media
A few years ago, Microsoft launched the Airband Initiative project. The project was estimated to help as many as 2 million users in remote areas of the US. Now, Microsoft has made it official that they have collaborated with several companies like Watch Communication and Nextlink Internet to execute the project. A few months back, earlier this year, the tech giant announced that the estimated number of peoples to benefit from the high-speed network plan has been raised from 2 million to 3 million in the US. Today, at Devex Conference on International Finance, Microsoft announced that the program will also be rolled out outside the US. Now, the company’s goal is to provide Internet services to 40 million people around the world by the year 2022.
Tumblr media
Microsoft expands Airband Initiative project The list of regions that are going to be covered by the Airband Initiative project includes Latin America and sub Saharan Africa. It should be noted that this is not the first time that Microsoft is using the vacancy in the TV band to promote the Internet in the above regions. It seems that the company is focused at filling the communication gap. The Airband International project consists of four steps. The first step is to remove regulatory barriers to TV white space and other technologies to help corporate partners promote services faster in remote locations. The second step is to work with the local Internet service providers to offer affordable and reliable services. Thirdly, to digitize remote areas and build energy supply networks to increase local productivity and living standards. The fourth and final step is to establish greater ecosystem support by stimulating international finance. Along with this, the company is also working hard to provide long term Internet projects for countries such as Colombia and Ghana. Read the full article

AMD will release its Epyc Rome 7nm CPU soon with up to 64 cores
Tumblr media
AMD Ryzen series was competing with those processors to some extent until now. But with the launch of Ryzen 3 series, we have seen that AMD's chips are on par or even better than Intel's offering. If we look at the price-to-performance ratio, AMD clearly wins but if you look only at performance, Intel has a slight edge. Having said that, Intel still has a monopoly in one market which is the server market. We know that there are hundreds of datacentres around the world. All these data centres need to be powered by a processor and Intel's Xeon lineup is dominating here. But we might see a drastic change here as well. Because AMD's Epyc lineup for the server-side of things is about to get a boost as well.
Tumblr media
AMD Epyc 'Rome' 7nm CPU soon The company has already announced during the Ryzen 3 announcement that its latest Epyc chips codenamed 'Rome' 7nm CPU will come in Q3, 2019. We now have further confirmation that AMD is on track to release these chips by the third quarter of 2019. Apart from that, we have come to know that these chips will have up to 64 cores inside them. And once again, they will be dominating the market when it comes to 'budget'. However, it is worth mentioning that server management is where the budget doesn't generally matter. While gamers and productivity users may go for AMD Ryzen 3 series because of its low price and high performance. Companies who have their data centres running will try to avoid any problems and continue using Intel's Xeon Platinum range of processors. While saying that, we still believe AMD will manage to break Intel's monopoly in this market with its latest offerings too. Read the full article

Apple is in advanced talks to buy Intel's 5G modem business
Tumblr media
There are reports that Apple's Mac lineup might also come with the Apple A-series chips. The latest Apple chipset in the market right now is the Apple A12 found on iPhone Xs series and iPad Pro series. However, Apple's A13 chip will also be coming soon by the end of this year. Earlier this year, Apple made a shock settlement to use Qualcomm modems once again in its smartphones though. Amidst all the iPhone XI rumours, there is a new report about Apple and Intel. This report reveals that Apple is in very advanced talks to buy Intel's 5G modem business. This also makes sense because Apple's own 5G modems are not even close to being ready at the moment. But reports have mentioned that Apple's products might come with 5G support as soon as next year.
Tumblr media
Apple is in advanced talks to buy Intel's 5G modem business Along with that, Apple and Qualcomm are having fights as well. So it is unlikely that Apple will get its supply of 5G modems from Qualcomm. Thus, the move to buy Intel's 5G business which is abandoned makes sense. You might have noticed that while there are Intel chips powering each and every desktop and laptop, there are hardly any smartphones with Intel's modem. This is because the company failed to sustain against the likes of Qualcomm and MediaTek in the smartphone industry. Intel is enjoying a huge market share in the PC industry while likes of Qualcomm and MediaTek have failed. Coming back to the Apple-Intel deal, reports suggest that Apple could buy Intel's modem business for $1 Billion. Also, the deal is very much finalized and might even be announced next week by both companies. Read the full article

IBM completes acquisition of Red Hat for $34 billion which was announced last year
Tumblr media
As IBM announced in a major breakthrough last year that it is acquiring Red Hat, that deal has now been completed. IBM has finally acquired Red Hat for $34 billion which is because IBM is looking to expand its cloud computing business. It is worth noting that while IBM announced the news of this deal in October, it was its biggest deal in the 100-year history. Ginni Rometty who is the Chief Executive at IBM has taken IBM to faster-growing segments such as cloud, software and services and away from traditional hardware which IBM was originally known for. However, it has to be said that the company is handled well and the credits go to its management as well. In an interview earlier this year, Rometty had discussed the ideas regarding this deal and its customers wanted to "move mission-critical work" to the cloud while also adding that "We have all the critical parts," once this deal was made official.
Tumblr media
While talking about the advantages of cloud technology, IBM's Chief Executive said that customers want a mix of private and public cloud applications. She says that customers look at the IT department and say that they can't throw all out and rebuild it so a mix is needed "with one platform across it." Some of the major examples of IBM's cloud customers are companies such as Morgan Stanley and Delta Air Lines which Rometty cited as well. Delta Air Lines' Chief Executive also said that they have been "working with both IBM and Red Hat for years" and added that this deal "will be an essential part of our digital transformation." Now, the only hurdle in finalizing the deal for IBM to acquire Red Hat was approval from US' regulators as well as European Union regulators. Both of which were won by IBM in May and June respectively. It is revealed that IBM has agreed to pay Red Hat $190 per share in this deal. Read the full article

Here is why Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp went down on July 3
Tumblr media
If you were not able to receive or download images on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger yesterday then it was not your fault. Neither was it the fault of your telecom operators. The fault was on the part of Facebook which owns WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger too. Therefore, all the services run on the same infrastructure. Yesterday, Facebook's servers suffered an outage which caused all these services to not work properly. However, it is worth mentioning that the outage was not as severe as we have seen previously. We tried using the services and the comments on Facebook, Instagram as well as messages on Messenger, WhatsApp were going and coming normally. The problem was in receiving and downloading images that were sent. We have now found out that the problem was in Facebook's CND or Content Delivery Network. This is where all the media such as Images, Videos and other such files sent across Facebook's services are stored. https://twitter.com/wongmjane/status/1146439302106058752 According to Facebook, there was a routine maintenance operation scheduled for its services. However, there was a bug which got triggered in this maintenance check and caused the services to stop working. The company also says that its services have been restored back to normal now. A Facebook spokesperson said that “Earlier today, some people and businesses experienced trouble uploading or sending images, videos and other files on our apps and platforms. The issue has since been resolved and we should be back at 100% for everyone. We’re sorry for any inconvenience,” referring to the outage. Although Facebook says that the bug caused problems in uploading images, we were able to upload images on WhatsApp and Facebook while we cannot say the same for Instagram and Messenger as we did not try it. However, we can also confirm that no one was able to download images on any of the platforms as an error was shown. Read the full article

Google might launch an AirDrop-like feature called Fast Share with Android Q
Tumblr media
There have been rumors from quite some time that Google is working on a feature similar to Apple's AirDrop. We know that file transfer is extremely easy due to Apple's AirDrop feature. However, the same cannot be said about Android as we have to install third-party apps for the same. Now, Google might soon integrate its AirDrop-like feature inside Stock Android. With Apple's AirDrop, nearby iOS devices can seamlessly send and receive files. In the same manner, you will be able to use Google's upcoming feature called Fast Share. At the moment, it is in very early stages and the feature is just seen inside Android Q beta's Settings page. However, we should expect to see this feature soon on the latest version of Android. Having said that, let's now look at how this feature actually works. In the meantime, we should also tell you that Google announced deprecation of Android Beam with Android Q. Personally speaking, I do not remember the last time I used Android Beam to send files.
Tumblr media
However, user reactions suggest that many of them used it on a daily basis. Now, Google has come up with Fast Share which is supposed to be better than Android Beam. The Google Fast Share page says that it will let you “share to nearby devices without the Internet,” which is what iOS's AirDrop does. Fast Share is based on Bluetooth and not NFC which means each and every device will be able to use it. You can also set preferred visibility to nearby devices which will “always see your device when you’re nearby, even if you’re not using Fast Share". Similar to AirDrop, you will be able to see the nearby devices and send them files you want and they will have to accept the file or reject it. Read the full article

A new PUBG Game announced which will be overseen by developer of Call of Duty
Tumblr media
We have already known how popular PUBG has become. The popularity of this game is more in Asian countries such as India, China and other markets. This is partly because Fornite is popular in the Western markets which is why PUBG comes second in those markets. Nonetheless, PUBG has created a revolution in the gaming industry and has made the Battle Royale genre a fan-favourite. Now, we are aware that PUBG was first available on PC and then ported on to mobile devices too. However, it must be said that the game is popular on all the platforms. Also, you can play PUBG on Xbox as well as PlayStation which adds to the game's popularity. Now, PUBG Corporation has announced a new PUBG game which will be overseen by the developer of the famous games such as Dead Space and Call of Duty. The game has not been provided with a title yet and is being developed by a new studio called Striking Distance. The studio's CEO is Glen Schofield who has developed Call of Duty and Dead Space.
Tumblr media
At the moment, the new PUBG Game is in early stages but PUBG Corp. says that the game is an "original narrative experience within the PUBG universe". Since the game is still in development, more details regarding its release are not available. However, the new game is confirmed to not have a battle royale-style of gameplay. A Battle Royale-style gameplay means survival of the fittest and the last person standing wins. Also Read: Tencent Games might soon launch PUBG Lite in India In the new PUBG Game, you will not have the same experience which might be welcome for some and a disappointment for others. Rather, the new PUBG Game will have a storyline similar to the other games such as GTA, for instance. However, the new PUBG Game is not believed to be a replacement but only a new version of the original game in the same universe. Read the full article

Oppo unveils world's first under-screen camera at MWC 2019 in Shanghai
Tumblr media
Oppo has unveiled an all-new innovation done by the company. It is often seen that Oppo reveals the latest technology first out of all the other OEMs. However, the sad part is that Oppo's technology takes time to come to their own phones, commercially. Having said that, it is still great to have a look at the future of technology. Talking about the future, we have already seen under-display fingerprint sensors. Now, we know that they are not as great as physical sensors right now but they are a step in the right direction. Because they help in reducing bezels as well as removing fingerprint sensors from the back.
Tumblr media
Oppo unveils world's first under-screen camera at MWC 2019 in Shanghai It is often said that the future of smartphones would be all glass and everything will be hidden inside it. Well, this might turn out to be true at least from the front. As Oppo has unveiled its under-screen camera or USC technology which places the selfie camera under the display. This means that from a naked eye, you will feel that there is no selfie camera. However, there is one under the display which will be activated when you open the camera interface. Now, one of the most difficult things for under-screen cameras are the light passing through the display and getting to the camera. As we all know, a camera can capture the image if the subject is enlightened. However, if enough light does not reach the camera then the images will be poor. Oppo says that they are using a "custom transparent material that works with a redesigned pixel structure for light to get through display and reach the camera".
Tumblr media
Oppo under-display camera At the same time, Oppo says that the first batch of smartphones released with an under-screen camera will not have the best selfie image production. Oppo also says that this technology will come to its commercial phones "in the near future". Read the full article

MediaTek announces its 12nm Helio P65 octa-core chipset
Tumblr media
MediaTek also manufactures its own chipsets same as Qualcomm. However, we know that there is a general perception that MediaTek processors are slower than Qualcomm chips. While this may or may not be true in real life usage is up for debates. However, most OEMs tend to prefer the Qualcomm Snapdragon chips for their flagship smartphones. We often see that the flagship MediaTek processors are being used in mid-range smartphones. Also Read: Raspberry Pi 4 announced with up to 4GB RAM and support for dual 4K displays Until now, MediaTek's flagship processor was the Helio P60. However, the company has announced its latest processor which will be the MediaTek Helio P65 processor. Talking about the MediaTek Helio P65 processor, it will be based on a 12nm process and is claimed to be 25 per cent faster than the competition in performance. It is also powered by 2 ARM Cortex-A75 CPUs operating up to 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 processors all packed in a single cluster of eight cores. Also, there is a pairing of Mali-G52 2EEMC2 for GPU processing.
Tumblr media
MediaTek Helio P65 MediaTek also claims that it has improved the performance of Helio P65 by 2x then its predecessors. Also, MediaTek P65 is claimed to be 30% faster in AI-camera tasks such as object recognition with Google Lens, Smart Photo Album, Scene detection as well as background removal techniques. Coming to the support for Helio P65 chips, it supports a dual camera setup of 16MP+16MP whereas it can handle a 48MP camera along with multiple cameras of different sensor size. It also supports 2K video capture at just 30 frames per second. This obviously shows that the MediaTek P65 processors are much less powerful than the upper mid-range and flagship chipsets from Qualcomm. In the memory department, MediaTek Helio P65 supports up to 8GB RAM along with eMMC 5.1 storage which is also slower than the UFS storage. It supports Bluetooth 5.0 and dual 4G VoLTE along with WiFi 802.11ac. Read the full article
