Since it's timely, I might get permission from a professor to publish on the internet the extended version of a paper I'm writing about how colonial legacy often leads to conflict and instability. This seems to be uniquely true of British imperialism/colonialism.

I'm using India/Pakistan (under company rule then British crown rule in the 19th century and during the world wars) as a case study and Israel/Palestine as my other case study (Palestine and Trans-Jordan were under British mandate after the Ottoman Empire was defeated).

It has been abundantly clear to me that the pro-Palestine movement's antisemitism, anti-Israelis-as-people sentiment, glorification of violence, and all the other components of the shit stew that I'm currently too angry to articulate, were going to lead to extreme violence, including against Jews in diaspora. I have been telling y'all for over a year and a half to collect your fucking people and you will not do it. I have been trying to educate gently and with nuance and provide a voice that is neither "there's no antisemitism in the movement" nor "antizionism is antisemitism." And yet somehow for either the message does not get through or frankly many of you just do not give a shit. Setting Jews in Colorado on fire will not free Palestine and frankly you are really stupid if you think it will, and also you and I are different because as a general principle I think setting people on fire is bad and you don't.

Anyway I could not be more fucking over it. Your movement is cooked as hell and is also not in any sense "leftist" or "radical." It's actually reactionary as fuck. At this point if you continue to refuse to speak up in your activist spaces and collect your people I will no longer be assuming you just need some gentle education, I will assume that it is intentional and you either agree with the bullshit or are prioritizing your personal social standing.

I think that the mocking of innocent Gazans who are starving is as vile and crude as mocking Israeli hostages who are starving.

Both are people who are trapped in unfortunate situations because of their governments and do not deserve apathy, no matter how much you think they do.

got interrupted by a free palestine protest in chile. felt like its a good time to mention just how much antisemitic graffiti, stickers, and signs i’ve seen. other than the hundred or so signs i’ve seen saying just “free palestine,” i’ve also found many graffiti and stickers saying things like “fuck israel” or “israel doesn’t exist” or “down with israel” as well as the regular phrases like “from river to sea.” There was also one i saw that had netanyahu on it with a dot on his forehead and words that said something along the lines of “he is committing genocide.” (i’m not fluent in spanish, but i got the general idea.)

this all hit particularly close to home as i used to be like that and, had i seen those at that. time, i would have felt happy.

knowing what i know now, it just makes me sad to see just how much hatred there is.
