since a lot of y'all liked my running post, i'd like to recommend one running 'influencer' that i actually think you should watch (most running influencers i see just regurgitate the same half-baked takes). her name is phily bowden and she's a pro marathon runner and makes really good youtube videos. she's also a coach (and while i can't speak to the quality of her coaching, she's a really great personality).

poppyseed filling recipe (turned into a 3 in 1)
I don't think I can pass this off as 'traditional', but it is delicious. This can be used as filling in dumplings, 'buchty', 'koláče', pies, strudels or whatever else you're making with poppyseed.
ingredients:
poppyseeds
apples (as much as you want, I use about 1 small/medium apple per 100g of poppyseed).
Icing sugar (to taste, optional if you like suffering)
Vanilla extract/vanilla sugar
Milk of choice (amount depends on the consistency you are going for, for buchty and strudels, you will want slightly more viscous filling)
Golden raisins (you can use normal raisins too if you don't feel as fancy).
Rum/rum extract (about 1-2 tbsp)
recipe:
Add your poppyseeds, sugar, and vanilla to a pot.
Add in the milk and rum until you get the consistency you want (or slightly runnier), mix it, and put it on low heat.
Peel and grate your apples.
After about 10 minutes of cooking the poppyseed, add in the apples and raisins, turning the heat off and leaving it for another 10 minutes.
You can add more milk if too much evaporates.
Serving:
For koláče and buchty, make a leavened dough.
koláče: Roll out the dough and press out circles using a cookie cutter or glass. Press down the center of the circle and add the poppyseed filling into the depression. Brush the edges with egg wash and bake at 160°C until the dough is nice and golden.
You can also add almonds or a streusel/crumble topping - for a streusel topping: 80g butter, 80g granulated sugar, 200g semi-coarse flour. Melt the butter in a pot and add the dry ingredients. Mix and add to your koláče/pies)
buchty: Follow the same steps as for the koláče, but add less filling, and pinch the edges together to make a dumpling-like shape (I've linked a video below for the shaping). Add to a butter-greased cake tin, covering the edges of the buchta in butter too. Add the buchty side by side, flush with each other, coating with butter to ensure they don't stick together. Once the tin is full, coat the top of the buchty with butter and let them rise for ~30 minutes before baking them at 160°C until golden brown.

do any other afab people feel like their period gets considerably more manageable when they've been doing physical activity? Like if I've been training consistently, my period will be less crampy and shorter, while if I haven't been training as much it's much more painful etc.?
(or, if not, should i get that checked out?)

🇨🇿 'traditional' guláš (goulash) recipe 🇨🇿
By traditional I mean it's my grandmother's.
Ingredients:
beef shank (0.5-2kg depending)
2-3 onions
garlic (4-5 cloves, more if you aren't using czech garlic)
oil
vinegar (about 1 tbsp)
paprika (3 tsp) not the hot kind, unless you want spicy guláš, which is not a bad thing imo.
thyme (1 tsp)
rosemary (1 tsp)
ground/crushed caraway (1tsp) NOT cumin!!
salt
pepper
carby side-dish of choice (bread dumplings, potato dumplings, rice, gnocchi (don't kill me Italy), pasta (not my fave tbh), or just some good old bread)
Recipe:
Dice your onions, and cut the beef shank into 1x1-inch pieces (approximately).
Heat up some oil in a large pan (preferably not a wok, you need a larger surface area if that makes sense - you can also use a pot) on medium heat.
You can tell the oil is hot enough by tossing in a small piece of onion; if it starts sizzling, it's hot enough and you should add the rest of the onion.
Stir occasionally, until the onion begins turning clear.
Add in the diced (not crushed) garlic and the rest of the spices, continue mixing so they don't burn (no salt/pepper at this point).
Mix 1tbsp vinegar with 10tbsp water (as we say 'by voko', or just guess the measurements).
Add the vinegar/water mixture to the pan and mix.
Add in the diced meat, spreading it around and leaving it to cook for about 2 minutes on each side, or until the outside browns.
Turn the heat down and cook it for another ~2 hours.
Enjoy!
(Let me know if you want a bread/potato dumpling recipe)

running tips (as someone who runs track)
Start slow, and don't follow too many running influencers (can really skew your perception)
WALK ON YOUR RUNS (i've run track for 5 years, been to regionals - came 7th- , still walk on my runs)
HYDRATE!!! (esp. on hot days)
Run for a set amount of time, rather than a distance
Be consistent (even if that means running/walking two miles and quitting for the session)
Don't underestimate speedwork/intervals, as someone who is sick of seeing 'rUn SlOw To RuN fAsT', you need fast segments and work to improve.
Sign yourself up for races
Find friends to run with
Might be rude, but nobody cares that you're dying during your run, they are way too preoccupied with their own issues.
Run somewhere (cafe, ice cream shop, bookstore), that gives you a concrete goal!
Get used to feeling uncomfortable, and learn to enjoy it.
Weightlifting prevents injuries, and can help your running :)
REST.DAYS.ARE.FOR.RESTING!!!
Make a banger running playlist (lemme know if you want recs)
Hit me up for some devious workouts that may or may not help you (but will destroy your will to live).
kat :)

honest to god best darn brownie recipe - will add pics
Adapted from a cookbook which I, for the life of me, cannot find nor remember the name of :(
Ingredients:
100g chocolate
150g butter (you can substitute part of this for yogurt if you want a lighter, more cakey brownie)
2 eggs
about 150-200g sugar (essentially to taste)
Vanilla extract/vanilla sugar
125g ap flour
15-25g cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
Recipe:
Melt the butter and chocolate in a water bath.
Mix the sugar, vanilla, and eggs together, until it lightens.
Combine the flour, salt, cocoa powder, and baking soda in a small bowl.
Add the slightly cooled melted chocolate/butter mixture and flour to the eggs/sugar, mixing until you have a smooth dough.
Bake at 200C for about 20 minutes (check with a toothpick to make sure its done.
Enjoy :)
Note: There is a lot of leeway here, as I am not French (I kinda am but that's besides the point), so you can adjust the measurements to taste :3

my ib tips (as an ib year 1 survivor)
my subjects (for reference):
HL: Chemistry, Biology, Maths AA
SL: English A, Czech A, History
Do your research the summer before year 1, find out what unis want and adjust your subjects accordingly (this mainly applies to HL AA, but a lot of engineering programs will want chemistry along with physics).
Contradiction to my last point, but go off of subjects you're at least confident in, and that you enjoy (i.e. if you suck at physics, don't take it, even if you want to do something physics related, it'll just be hellish)
Don't let what you think you want to do in the future limit your choices. Sure, it's good to keep it in mind, but people change, so it is more important to take subjects you want to study rather than what you need for a career you think you want.
Start thinking about your EE early, and try to talk to your subject teacher (there is a large chance they will be your supervisor, and if not, it's still good to get an idea of what is expected of you).
SPACE.OUT.YOUR.IAS!!! My school does this for us, but it's better to do your ias during your first year and one at a time rather than cramming them all in year 2.
On a similar note, get your CAS done as soon as possible (forgot this one as I've already done it), it takes such a massive load from your shoulders going into year 2.
Get as much feedback from your teachers as you can!! It can be hard to hear critiques of your work, but trust me, it'll help you a lot in the long run.
Continue with your extracurriculars, I know a lot of people will quit or limit their ECs during the IB, but imo, there's nothing worse you can do. ECs keep you grounded and help you focus on stuff that isn't the ib.
Don't be afraid to switch subjects/levels, if you find out something isn't working for you, it's always easier to switch than to tough it out, trust me, your future self will thank you!
Don't take it too seriously, sure, it determines your future, but you also need to chill the hell out, because the only person your stress is hurting is you.
The IB is only as hard as you make it!
Good luck! Feel free to ask me anything in the submission box on my profile!
-kat
