I frankly do not care about “romance repulsion”.  I understand being annoyed by romance being so prevalent in today’s media that it’s forced constantly into narratives. I understand being frustrated with the pressure to be in a romantic relationship when you do not want one. I understand being repulsed by romantic feelings/attention being directed towards you and wanting to get away from that. But shit like this?

I have no sympathy for it. You being totally disgusted and incensed by OTHER PEOPLE being romantic towards eachother is flat out unhealthy and something you need to get over instead of foisting onto other people.  ESPECIALLY GAY/BI/TRANS PEOPLE. Telling us that you see us expressing love as disgusting is not fucking ‘valid’ or worthy of respect, it’s just subjecting us to more vile bigotry. LGBT people have to be brave to be romantic in public and you’re going to shit on them for doing so? Fuck you. Shut up.  Quit saying you’re ‘romance repulsed’. Just say you’re bitter and angry that you can’t relate to people liking romance so you take it out on them instead of working on developing a healthier outlook. Also just admit you’re homophobic.

cis people made pan to be like “i love ALL GENDERS, including the trans and nonbinaries! Hearts not parts!” and treating us like a 3rd gender instead of a whole identity spectrum and to portray other identities as being genitalia obsessed freaks. A cis person could just as easily use bi and say they have “no preference” over gender, or that their identity encompasses all genders, but pan as an identity was created by cis people to be inherently transphobic.

Look, these two charts are literally all that needs to be said about the ace discourse.

If your identity is the target of homophobia or transphobia, you are LGBT, regardless of the strength, regularity, or variability of your attraction.

If your identity is not the target of homophobia or transphobia, you are not LGBT, regardless of the strength, regularity, or variability of your attraction.

The ace and aro community and the LGBT community are capable of being two communities, with LGBT aces and aros being full members of both, not diminished in any identity. (Someone said that the Venn diagram cordoned off LGBT aces and aros somehow; that’s not how a Venn diagram works. A Venn diagram shows that a group or concept is common to two or more groups or concepts. If you want to know more about Venn diagrams, go look on Wikipedia?)

The LGBT community is a political entity developed to protect its members against, agitate for the end of, and develop resources against, homophobia and transphobia. Any other issue or problem, regardless of its merit, is best taken care of by another community. Intersectional issues that face members of the LGBT community can absolutely be tackled, but issues that are purely about another concept or issue do not need to be taken care of the LGBT community.

I absolutely hate inclus culture irl.

My college calls it’s gsa “q*eers and allies” and it’s horrible for me as someone who was called q when I was hate crimed. There is absolutely no empathy for traumatized lgbt people there. They’re more focused on making sure demisexuals feel valid and included than actual lgbt people who need resources and support.

I’ve heard people on college buses just talking about ace discourse. They were saying anyone who’s exclus is a horrible person and as bad as groups who advocate for the death penalty for gay people. They were also specifically saying grossly lesbophobic things. Blaming lesbians for all of ace discourse and saying all lesbians are terfs.

Despite seeming to bend over backwards to include absolutely everyone I’ve seen so much transmed sentiment from them irl. As a nonbinary person who medically cannot bind I’ve seen so much hostility. My pronouns have been constantly disrespected and I’ve been straight up told that I’m not trans.

Inclus culture makes me feel unsafe. It pushes lgbt people out of spaces meant to keep them safe and it bars access to important resources. I care more about lgbt people that need to be kept safe and supported than hurting a cishet’s feelings.

‘asexuality’ as a personal descriptor for how you experience sex and attraction is completely fine, for adults.

but it doesn’t hold up as a social identity and that becomes extremely obvious whenever you hold it up to literally any other social identity. race, gender, class, ability, religion, sexuality, all of these are coherent identities that come with shared social, cultural, and political experiences. all of these are also things that children can be. all of them (except for race) can change over time of course, but children are still these things.

children can’t be asexual. point blank. to say there are asexual children is to say there are non-asexual children which is by definition sexualizing children, and extremely vile. this is also why ace =/= lgbt, bc children can be lgbt but they can’t be asexual.

im not even gonna get into all the ways the “asexual community” is non-cohesive bc it would take too long, but more importantly, the asexual/non-asexual dichotomy is false. made up. a lie. not grounded in any sort of reality.

i think conceptualizing “asexuality” as a social identity and presenting it as a go-to option if you’re even remotely uncomfortable or uninterested with sex is…. bad. it’s just bad! sex is COMPLICATED and personal and everything from your upbringing to religion to sexuality to race to gender to dysphoria to mental health etc is going to factor into your relationship to sex. minors are developing their sexualities. young adults are figuring out their rltshp to sex. grown ass adults are also still figuring it out! 

if you have spent time with yourself reflecting on your rltshp to sex and figuring out with makes you happy and healthy, and the conclusion you came to is asexuality, that’s COMPLETELY fine. good for you!

but that’s not an identity the same way that someone coming to the conclusion that they love sex and having sex all the time, is also not an identity. and it’s also a conclusion that only adults can come to. to send any other message just makes it harder for minors to safely figure out their own rltshps to sex and attraction.

you literally have people suggesting to 15 year olds that they might be ace bc they’re “not interested in sex like all their friends are.” that’s bananas. completely ridiculous at best, actively damaging at worst. like that’s a literal child, and it’s completely normal for 15 year olds to not be interested in sex. again, if you believe a 15 year old can be asexual, what does that say about how you think of teenagers in general?

i think we’re too far gone in this current cultural moment to like, recalibrate people’s understanding of asexuality. and it’s worrisome. all i hope for is that minors aren’t harmed / repressing their sexuality even further / getting into situations that are unhealthy for them / etc as a result of this cultural moment.

Except that it is. The tag is meant for people to find others like them, for support, for answering questions. If you see no problem with flooding the tags with hateful spam and death threats, then you're beyond my understanding. This doesn't just affect the "evil cithets" either, there are LGBT aces who use the tags for the purposes I mentioned. Included me, including a nb kid who says that the hate in those tags makes them want to kill themselves. You think that kid is pathetic?

LGBT ppl: (some of whom are ace themselves) Cisgender heteroromantic asexuals and cisgender aromantic heterosexuals are straight IN ADDITION TO being asexual or aromantic and thus not queer/LGBT. They shouldn’t use the q slur nor should they take advantage of the resources our community provides.

Asexual/Aromantic people do in fact face stigma/prejudice that is unique to them but the LGBT community was built is a coalition of communities brought together by overlaping oppression that is completely separate from what asexuals/aromantic face and have faced historically. Instead of invading safe spaces that keep LGBT people alive, they should focus their efforts on making their own community and providing resources for themselves.
