unveil your heart
the whole irony poisoned way of seeing something unusual and reacting with quips of 'kill it with fire' or 'i just lost brain cells' is such a muted way of trotting through this beautiful timeline, and such a common reaction from those raised by the internets depths. i hear this a lot with my books
and it just makes me think, 'do you realize that you have trained yourself to experience shock as dismissal?’ so many irony poisoned buds have wired themselves so that something 'unusual' equals disgust instead of wonder and curiosity and joy at the strange corners of our timeline.
i should be clear, this is not really a complaint. everyone can trot their own trot and these buckaroos often still buy or share my books out of curiosity, but i cant help but feel bad for them. there is so much wonder in this existence and some of it IS WEIRD. i mean A LOT of it is weird.
but by training yourself to react with an automatic veil will create such a haze across your experience. maybe you read a tingler and DO enjoy it. maybe you eat a food that seems unusual. maybe you listen to a musician with a video that people share to make fun of and YOU find something powerful
there will be plenty of things out there that are not to your taste, but this culture of saying yuck to sincerity to get little more than an empty laugh - it will destroy your heart.
#this is 99% not a reblogs blog#but I believe this so wholeheartedly and I see some of my students doing this and it kills me#cultivate wonder

More work t'ings. Doing funky stuff to 1780s stays so they can support an off-shoulder 1660s gown. Pattern is by Clockwork Faerie on Etsy, the rest is my own draping. Design by Anna-Alisa Belous.

Our old shipmate @haverkampink joins the Antiques Freaks in returning to the Sailor's Word Book for a rousing rendition of nautical vocabulary, including ram reel, rigging out, roast beef dress, and rum-gagger.

aaaahhhh it looks so beautiful!!!
I finally finished my housewife/hussif from @terrorcamp and @haverkampink ‘s mending workshop. (I was fighting carpal tunnel syndrome and got defeated by stitching through all the layers on the actual day of the workshop.) I used lots of my Victorian era reproduction fabrics and some antique buttons. I did my darning practice on the top pocket but it was too distracting so I added the Peglar eye. I think I’ll really use it when taking portable sewing projects with me.

Girl, do NOT let that 19th century soldier try to fool you with weaponized incompetence. Yes he DOES know how to cook and clean, that's like half of his job!! Girl he has a sewing kit with him to make basic repairs to his clothes, I don't care if he calls it a "hussif." He has like five different types of clothes brushes and knows how to neatly pack everything he owns.
#one of the many things that ministry of time got right that SO many works get wrong!!! these guys are CAPABLE#ty for tag uwu

I loved your mending workshop so much 🙏 I will admit, the quick aside we took into the Louis and Clark yaoi was unexpected. but not unwelcomed. 🤣 Cheers and thank you for teaching us how to darn. I'm using this info Immediately to fix some shirts <333
HAHAHAHA AH MAN listen, many roads lead to one's career, ultimately, and sometimes. It is the historical figures you become obsessed with along the way.
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you so much!

i was thinking about this today so how long has YOUR JOB existed- not how long your industry has existed, but how long someone has been doing the work you do as a trade notwithstanding changes in terminology and technology. no unemployed option cuz i cant add more answers sorry... tell me about it in the tags
#fun fact#the position we know now as 'costume designer' for theater has only existed for under 100 years#and is largely a result of the 1920 equity strike that decreed actors could not be forced to buy their own costumes#fashion designers and costume houses were hired by bigtime producers prior to that and presumably put their artistic stamp on their work#but the modern researching designer who has a creative voice in COLLABORATION with the director is a thing of the 20th-21st century
