I Crocheted the Thing
1K posts
Just a blog for tracking my crochet projects, including my crochet cosplays. I'll share patterns I use, and also explain how I make stuff so maybe other people can make stuff. I'm sharing non-cosplay projects because practice is what got me here, so I want to encourage as I go. You can find me on ravelry as gaylefrancis. I track everything there.

So, with tumblr shitting the bed on this whole “adult content” ban, I’m going to be leaving it behind. As a company, they are allowed to make whatever rules they want. As a user, I can bail to show I’m not into it.
That being said, places you can find me on the internet and interact:
twitter
facebook page
Both places will have Errata-Hate updates, so don’t worry you’re gonna miss out on that news, but if you’re just here for Errata-Hate, you can subscribe to the channel here.
Oh, yeah, and my ravelry if you want it.

Hey, I made a couple of charts so you can make your own doink doink scarf or patch (the patch could easily work as the front of a bag, as well.
For when you need the Law & Order noise with you.
Free pattern. Includes some tips, links to the videos I did for Errata-Hate where I demonstrated corner-to-corner technique, and two versions of the chart. It’s a google doc that you can view but not edit.

I give you the SVU Angry Afghan. It is dedicated to @phillystrega and the fact that SVU can’t stop shitting the bed while claiming to care about queer people.

In the fine tradition of coming up on a deadline, I have an important announcement:
Fuck the Mr. Miracle cape. Fuck it entirely.
Look, I love this cape, and with issue #12 just dropping this past week, it’d be a prime time to have one available at Geek Craft. But also, the thing takes TIME. It takes so much TIME. I can finish both Makkachin bags and make another handful of masks and STILL not have hit the amount of time that cape takes.
So, fuck the Mr. Miracle cape. It’s not happening this show. I’d rather have the Makkachin bags finished and get the bingo cards printed and laminated than be dragging away on the cape.
Don’t let sunk cost fallacy trick you into working yourself into the ground. Especially not a week out from a show.

Big Barda helmet! So much floral wire. So much epoxy. So many fucking hours to stick it all together.

The word of the day is verticality. AKA, that thing where you figure out how to make everything tall so people see it from across a con floor.
Starring: My hats.

First time posting this over here. My endo’s at it again, and surgery is gonna cost 3500 plus we still owe 2500 on the previous surgery, and I would just really like to not have to stare at another bill I’ve caused because my body is a fucking asshole.
Part of these costs, FYI, is the week I’ll have to take off work. I’m on contract, and what sick time I do have through my agency is mostly dried up because--you guessed it--endo.
Any way you can help would be greatly appreciated. Please share around, and if you can donate, thank you. A couple of bucks can go a long way when a bunch of people pitch in.

No printed patterns at GCE this time.
Had I priced things earlier, I could have budgeted pretty easily. Fed Ex would print and staple for about $150 for 4 patterns, but we’re just under a month out, and I need to print new business cards and also get some stuff to make my displays more vertical. I’d rather have my cash go towards those things than have the possibility of patterns gathering dust if they don’t all sell.
I will be placing a note next to the Makkachin bag saying a pattern is available. Same for the Barda blanket. I can sell the digitals off my etsy store through square. And if I load the pdfs on my tablet, they can flip through to see if they like them.

Gonna break 30 miles in yarn this year. Between what’s left of the Mr. Miracle cape, two Barda helmets, and two Makkachin bags, I may hit 31. We’ll see.

Yet another tool in the box
I’ve got an estimate request out to a local print shop to see about printing patterns to take to GCE, and while I was looking at stuff, I rediscovered the crochet bingo card I put together a few years ago. Printing it will be inexpensive, but it looks like I’ll be buying a laminating machine rather than get it done professionally so I can actually sell the bingo cards for a reasonable price. ($2). Hopefully, people will like them.

I made a Lockheed for the owner of my comic shop and took some photos of him splooting when I dropped him off. I also got one of him sitting up nicely so you can see some more of the detail.
Lockheed is a dragon in the X-Men comics. He’s pretty great.

Figured out this past week that there’s no way I can swing GCE PDX for 2019. This is a bummer because it’s nice to have a hometown show. But also, I can’t make it because I’ll be coming back from my first vacation in a long time, and man, what a great reason to not be able to do a show.
I’m also sort of glad on the creative level. There are projects I’ve had to put on the back burner so that making stock could take priority, and being able to have some breathing room between shows means I can work on stock and ALSO have time for the other things I want to do. There’s cosplays to make and patterns to write and Errata-Hate ideas to get filmed. It’ll be nice to be able to work on a larger variety of stuff.

It’s Saturday! Which means Errata-Hate #60 is up! I show you how to make a halter top! Spoiler alert: I have not finished the promised written version of this pattern. Working on it.
As always, if you enjoy Errata-Hate, share it around!
