Francesco Petrarca once wandered so absentmindedly into his own library that he knocked over a hand-copied book of Cicero’s letters, which fell with a sharp corner on his ankle and broke his skin. This happened three (errata corrige: FOUR) more times in the same week and every time he just yelled at the book as if Cicero were listening inside it, to make fun of him, and went about his day. He tried to be a manly man and ignore the deteriorating condition of his injury and eventually had to urgently call his doctors (he hated doctors) at the very last possible moment, nearly lost his poor infected leg, and wound up bedridden for days and wrapped in herbs and poultices, complaining that they wouldn’t let him eat what he liked. I am obsessed with this man. OBSESSED.
(Epistulae ad familiares XXI, 10, Ides of October (!!!) 1358 or 59.)
#francesco petrarca#most relatable man in intellectual history#why yes I too talk to my books as if their authors were listening and grotesquely neglect my health#I love you so much Petrarca

Just adding my voice to the din, I hate the new template change from post combat main to second main on every card, which is very functional errata on cards like Neheb the Eternal. It nerfs a lot of things in extra combat decks. Entirely too many things are once per turn these days, there's no need to change to older cards to that too.
There are a lot of things to juggle when changing terminology. The impact on a single card often isn't as important as other gains made.

Pokemon Card of the Day #2968: Scizor (Neo Discovery)

Scizor actually had a bit of hype from some players after seeing it released in Japan. Getting a good hit on a bulky Pokemon and then hopefully finishing it off with a Double Claw seemed pretty good. Then the card was released over here, and Wizards of the Coast messed up and took away what was supposed to be a guaranteed 20 damage before the coin flips. They hated erratas of any sort, so they just decided to have it played as written, lowering the chance of Scizor getting that important 2-hit KO on all sorts of things. Modern players tend to use erratas to be more like how the original cards were intended, so Scizor has at least eventually had a chance to show what it could do. Was it actually good? Well, that's a whole different matter.
80 HP wasn't bad at all for a Stage 1, especially one that could use Metal Energy without a downside. Scizor would usually be surviving a hit, sometimes two against more moderate attackers if Metal Energy was in place. The Fire Weakness was still an issue against Typhlosion decks and Magcargo, as you might expect. A Grass Resistance helped deal with Crobat and other various attackers of the type. The Retreat Cost here was 2, and you'd probably want to Warp Point if possible, though if you could give up Basic Energy and not Metal Energy to retreat it was doable.
False Swipe was actually good against bulky Pokemon. A single Metal Energy did damage equal to half of the Defending Pokemon's remaining HP. This rounded down to the nearest 10 to prevent this from ever getting a KO. How good this was really depended on what was out there. You basically did nothing to a Baby Pokemon or anything with low HP. You also did 60 for 1 to a fresh Feraligatr. This meant an attack that was good against the main focus of a lot of decks but poor against supporting Pokemon, and it was there to weaken things for other attacks.
Double Claw was where that mistake in translation came in. The card says 20+, but back in the early 2000's the ruling was to just go by the text, which was 2 coin flips for 3 Colorless Energy and 20 damage was done for each heads. A Maximum of 40, average of 20, and a 25% chance to do nothing was awful for that price. With an errata in modern looks at the old formats, it goes by the original Japanese version where 20 damage was guaranteed and each heads added 20 more. This was more reasonable, though still based on luck. It averaged out to a nice 2-hit KO on anything at 80 or less HP, getting there 75% of the time with a False Swipe then Double Claw.
Scizor, without the errata, wasn't worth much since it couldn't really follow up a False Swipe with a KO. A back-up attacker of some sort was absolutely required, with Water being an interesting idea to handle Fire-types even if there wasn't a nice type overlap here like Steelix had with Fighting Energy and Kabutops. With the errata it was a decent bit better, holding its own against some of the Pokemon sitting in that 70-80 HP range. Higher than that meant a bigger False Swipe but a higher need to have some help to finish things off. Generally, Metal went with Steelix in Rocket-On and the Scizor from Aquapolis in Neo-On. Scizor was kind of on the fringe of being useful, having notable moments by doing a lot of damage for little Energy in some match-ups while being stuck in a format where switching help was sometimes a bit limited.

Warhammer 40,000 Balance Update for October 16, 2024 - Munitorum Field Manual and Errata for Imperium Factions
After writing, I decided to split this document up into the super factions for ease of use. I've also changed how I format rules changes. Let me know what you think! Is this more readable, would you prefer a single post, or should I do a post for each faction?
Edit: The color coding for points changes breaks every time I edit it. To fix it, I have to go into the HTML and correct where it's marking things. I just don't have the spoons for manually correcting that much text.
Adepta Sororitas
Sisters are one of the armies to be feared right now, though not even close to having complete dominance in games. Of their detachments, Bringers of Flame is the clear choice. Though some players have had success with Hallowed Martyrs. They were justly directly called out for nerfs.
First, we get a fun little change that basically makes it that only one part of a unit in an Immolator gets to take the cherub with them. Technically a nerf, but it kinda makes sense. After all, the unit only comes with one cherub to begin with. It's hard to imagine the little one can perform double duty.
We also get a clarification that Imagifiers and Saintly Example do combo together, that Vow of Atonement only really affects the first three Battle Rounds, and that Verse of Holy Piety does persist for the Battle Round on death.
Battle Sisters Squad: -10 pts Castigator: +10 pts Dialogus: +10 pts Dominion Squad: +10 pts Immolator: +10 pts Morvenn Vahl: +10 pts Paragon Warsuits: +10 pts Seraphim Squad (5 models): +5 pts Seraphim Squad (10 models): +20 pts Triump of St. Katherine: +60 pts!!! Zephyrim: -1 pts/model Bringers of Flame - Fire and Fury: +10 pts Bringers of Flame - Iron Surplice of Saint Istalela: +5 pts Bringers of Flame - Manual of Saint Griselda: +5 pts Bringers of Flame - Righteous Rage: +5 pts
Despite their position, Sisters gets a couple of buffs to try and make their rank and file more attractive. After that, it's all bad news. Both Morven Vahl and Paragons get a tap, making the whole package 20 pts more expensive. Castigators, Dominions, and Immolators, and the Dialogus all also get hit. Serpahim are our next unit to get a split cost with 5 costing 18 pts/model, but 10 set to 19 pts. All of the Bringers of Flames enhancements have gone up in cost to try to hit them specifically. But the biggest hit by far is to the Triumph, with a massive 60 pts nerf. These changes amount to Bringers of Flame losing a whole unit or more.
However, I still think Bringers of Flame is the play. They will still be perfectly fine with these changes, if no longer S Tier. Meanwhile Hallowed Martyrs is also going to hate some of these nerfs. All and all, pretty fair changes to one of the top armies, but not very good for internal balance.
Adeptus Custodes
While in a rough spot, Custodes have always been a tricky army to balance. Their individual units are just so incredibly good. But when you've got so few on the table, it becomes difficult to actually play objectives. Their detachments also need some love, with Shield Host being the only one that's being played to real success. Let's see what GW has for them.
They've updated the Imperial Armour document! First we have a nerf to Spear Guard and Sagittarum. They can now only be lead by Custodes characters. This means they can no longer combo with Draxys. At the same time, the Telemon gets a buff for when it wields double caestus. I didn't see any mention of this anywhere, so this is kind of hidden. See what I mean about how GW doesn't quite have the handle on these updates? The three new FAQs are all standard stuff that shouldn't have needed clarification or further enforce how GW is ruling Transports.
Trajann Valoris: -10 pts All Contemptor Dreadnoughts: -10 pts Vertus Praetors: -5 pts/model
Points wise it's all good news at least. Trajan and all versions of the Contemptor will be much easier to include. I don't know if this enough to make Vertus Praetors worth playing, but the buffs are still welcome. It's not a lot, but like I said, this is a tough faction to balance.
Adeptus Mechanicus
The Martian Priesthood are currently doing pretty well, though this is likely at least a little bolstered by the dedication and experience of their player base. Both Rad-Zone and Skitarri are well over-represented at top tables. So we might see more nerfs than buffs.
They get their first FAQ question today, and it's a bland order of operations question. While I guess it's better to have common questions solved for everyone to see, it is frustrating when the rules are already there. Still, I guess if the rules are always changing . . .
All Electro-Priests: -1 pts/model Ironstrider Ballistarii: +5 pts/model Onager Dunecrawler: -5 pts All Pteraxii: +1 pts/model Serberys Sulphurhounds: -5 pts/3 models Skitarii Vanguard: +5 pts Sydonian Skatros: -10 pts All Tech-Priests: -5 pts
For buffs, all Electro-priests and Tech-Priests go down. The Sulphur hounds go down, but I'm not sure that's enough. The Onager somehow gets a little buff as well. I think at 50 pts, Stilt-boy becomes a usable Lone Op. In exchange Ballistari, Pteraxi, and Vanguard have all gone up in cost, and those are all commonly used units.
These changes aren't that bad, and only gives top lists a bit of a tap. I don't think this is enough to have anyone trying out new builds, but it's a start.
Astra Militarum
Guard are in a good spot! They're only slightly over the 50% mark, only slightly over-represented at top tables, and they're able to win events. Even better, multiple builds and regiments are working. The only danger is that if GW does succeed in bringing down the big boys, Guard might start to creep up. So maybe a love tap is in order? But gotta be really gentle though. Bit frustrating honestly that you might need to nerf a currently balanced army to keep them balanced for the new meta.
As for Imperial Armour, this looks like a Keyword fix for the Cyclops.
The first Errata feels like a clarification, but technically this is a rules change. I don't know anyone that played with Orders effecting Battle-shocked units, but I'm sure that happened somewhere. The second errata is just clarification and matching. The other two changes are fixes that are long overdue, with Tank Commanders getting Squadron and Rawne going to SUSTAINED HITS 1.
For FAQs, most of this is just common reading of the rules. But the one that needs clarification the most is "Death Befitting an Officer." The clarifications made are that the ability can only trigger if the Tank Commander is killed during an attack. The amusing thing, is this can be the Tank Commander's attack. So if the Tank Commander dies to overcharged plasma, it gets to shoot again.
Bullgryn Squad: +20 pts/3 models Field Ordnance Battery: -10 pts Heavy Weapons Squad: -10 pts Ogryn Squad: -5 pts/3 models Scout Sentinels: -5 pts/model Tank Commander: +20 pts
And the points changes are, indeed, love taps. The Tank Commander and Bullgryn are both heavy hitters in Guard armies, but I'm guessing this will just result in one fewer Bullgryn squad. In exchange, Field Ordinance, Heavy Weapons, and Scout Sentinels of all things have all gone down. Don't think Ogryn will replace Bullgryn, but that drop might help make them a bit more attractive.
Guard will be fine.
Black Templars
The previous kings of the Space Marine Chapters, Black Templars have fallen quite a ways. Many of the previous nerfs to Space Marines have actually been targeted at them, and I theorized that GW was trying to bring the divergent Chapters in line with the Codex Chapters to try and make balance easier. With the nerfs to their vehicles and to Iron Storm, their Crusaders detachment is back to being the best way to play them. Some players are also having luck with the Gladius too. Still, if GW is going to use rules to balance Space Marines, Templars need some love.
FAQ and Errata don't have anything meaningful for Dorn's angriest sons, so we can go straight to points.
Castellan: -5 pts Chaplain Grimaldus: +10 pts Crusader Squad (20 models): +20 pts High Marshal Helbrecht: +10 pts Marshal: -5 pts Primaris Crusader Squad (10 models): +10 pts Primaris Crusader Squad (20 models): +40 pts!!!
Woo boy! Someone didn't like how well Templar horde has done at some recent events! That's all their staples up, with the big brick of Crusaders going up a full 40 pts. For consolation, Castellans and Marshals have gone down 5 pts.
Yeah, Templars are going to be hurting.
Blood Angels
The Sons of Sanguinius have only just gotten their book. By tradition, this usually means they'll get minimum changes, other than having their points come more in line with the current meta. My understanding is the Codex is a bit of a mixed bag, so I'll be guessing a bit here. Before their Codex though, they were doing pretty good and mostly using Sons of Sanguinius. Since that detachment is mostly intact, they should be pretty good to go with minimal changes.
For Errata, the detachments have all been changed to be Blood Angels only. They've changed the timing on Death from the Skies to make you pick your unit in the Movement phase, just after they move. They also fixed wargear on Sanguard so that you can mix and match spears and swords and give two inferno pistols to a 6 man. FAQs clarify that Sanguinor is able to arrive within engagement range of enemy models that didn't trigger it and gets the usual reminder about how reserve rules work. The change to Death from the Skies is interesting, but I'm guessing they might try to unify Advance and Charge rules next.
Liberator Assault Group - Icon of the Angel: +10 pts The Angelic Host - Archangel's Shard: -10 pts Astorath: +20 pts Baal Predator: +10 pts Chief Librarian Mephiston: +25 pts Commander Dante: +10 pts Death Company Marines: -7 pts/model Death Company Marines with Bolt Rifles: +3 pts/model Death Company Marines with Jump Packs: -2 pts/model Sanguinary Guard: +14 pts/model
Points wise, let's start with enhancements. Archangels Shard actually went down 10 pts, while Icon of the Angel went up 10 pts. But then, they all got shuffled around between two detachments too, so their synergies have changed a bit. The new Gleaming Pinions went up from its book cost. Nearly everything else go nerfed. Astorath has gone up 20 pts, which is more than I think he's improved. Despite getting nerfed in the Codex, the Baal Predator has also gone up 10 pts. Mephiston took a sidegrade in the new book, but GW apparently thinks he needs to go up a full 25 pts. By contrast, I think 10 pts is much more in line with Dante's buffs. Basic death Company Marines have gotten a significant buff, with Jump Pack models also getting a nice boost. But Intercessors, now called Death Company Marines with Bolt Rifles, got nerfed. I'm not sure this is inline with their Codex buffs. Sanguinary Guard have are probably the biggest loser of the codex, that extra wound costing them 14 pts per model despite losing striking power. The Sanguinary Priest remains unchanged, despite a small power boost, as does the The Sanguinor.
As for new models, they have to compete with their Codex equivalents. Despite having fewer options, the Blood Angels Captain is the same price as a Codex Captain. I'm definitely not sure about the Dreadnought being 20 pts over a standard Brutalis, especially after losing Frenzied Reprisal. But 70 pts and 85 pts are probably fine for the two Death Company Captains.
That's a lot! And it's hard to grapple with. Honestly, I don't see Blood Angels staying where they are. Liberator is still a good detachment, but I'm thinking there going to struggle to get the same results they did before. I'm more and more getting the feeling that GW is trying to zero out the Space Marine chapters before they do their rules update.
Dark Angels
While not boasting as impressive numbers as Space Wolves, Dark Angels are also in a really good position. While still hovering just above 50% wins, they regularly make it to top tables and have actually brought home more trophies than their rival Chapter has. Again, popularity has a lot to do with this skewed data. Their detachments are struggling though. Most of their success comes from Codex Detachments, especially the Gladius. But that's not getting fixed today. In fact, after seeing the previous divergent chapters, I'm predicting they're in for a bad time.
The Sons of the Lion aren't getting anything new for their FAQ today, so we're moving straight to points.
Azreal +10 pts Deathwing Knights +15 pts Landspeeder Vengeance -20 pts Lion El'Johnson -15 pts Ravenwing Command Squad -10 pts Sammael -15 pts GW . . . Every time I think you've started to understand how the meta works and have got a plan of what to do about it, you pull something like this. Granted, the bump to Azreal and Knights is going to be felt. But Sammael and The Lion were already good.
Dark Angels are in a good spot.
Edit: Okay, I'm coming back having read the Core Codex changes. There's a lot there that hits Dark Angels. Things just got bumpy.
Grey Knights
The Knights of Titan are another faction that's actually in a pretty good spot. Yeah, they're obviously waiting for their full Codex, but they're still performing really steadily. Again, there's the potential they can take advantage of nerfs to the factions above them. But I think they don't have the same ability to do that as Guard does. They're not getting any errata or FAQ, so let's move onto points.
Brotherhood Terminator Squad (5 models): -10 pts Paladin Squad (5 models): -5 pts Purgation Squad: -2 pts/model
Grey Knights exemplify getting the most out of maximum squad sizes. So making their MSU more efficient is a welcome blessing. This will help them get a few more units onto the board without feeling like they're wasting their valuable points. I'm not sure this will really change lists all that much, but they're still welcome changes.
Imperial Agents
As I said in my first post, this isn't really an army. There are a few people who have taken a chance on it, mostly trying to take advantage of the fact that no one really knows what it does yet. The Imperialis Fleet does have some interesting rules in it too, but still suffers from the general lack of an army rule and internal cohesion. We don't have a lot of numbers yet, but what we have doesn't look promising.
For new errata we don't have much either. We've got an errant asterisk that needs to be viciously purged from Imperial records and the obvious clarification that Rhinos can only transport Infantry.
Assigned Agents Subductor Squad: +15 pts
That's it. Just a nerf to one of the more popular units for other Imperium armies to include. It wouldn't surprise me if most of the action we ever see here is in this section of the MFM.
Imperial Knights
As opposed to their Traitor counterparts, Loyalist Households are doing fine. They're another faction putting out solid, steady performance. I know their player base has changes they'd love to see, particularly to Bondsman abilities, but we won't be getting that here.
After a quick FAQ that Sir Hektor cannot complete an action Canus Rex began, we go straight to points.
Canus Rex: +15 pts Knight Castellan: -15 pts Knight Errant: -15 pts Knight Gallant: -20 pts Knight Valiant: -20 pts
And that's all there is here. Canus Rex gets punished for being constantly taken as an ally while some lesser played Knights get some buffs. I think we'll see some players experiment a bit more, but that's all this will amount to.
Space Marines
Oh boy, Space Marines! It sounds like they're getting rules in the next Balance Dataslate, and they need them. There's no reason to play an Iron Hands Ironstorm when Black Templars use it better. There's no reason to play Storm Lance as Whitescars when you can take Dark Angels or Space Wolves. Only Ultramarines seems to be seeing much play, due to how good Calgar and Ventris are, and they've still fallen behind Dark Angels. In short, it's not that Space Marines aren't good, it's that chapters with their own rules and units are so much better. So how do you buff Space Marines without making the other Chapters too strong? The way things currently are, you can't.
For errata, we get a small clarification on Forged in Battle that specifies the die becomes an unmodified 6. Uriel Ventris gets the same treatment Cypher and the Archon got, future proofing them and making sure he doesn't stack with Lord of Deceit. There's a small clarification on the rules for Lieutenants that everyone was playing it as anyway. And Desolation Squads can burn in hell with yet another nerf.
For FAQs, Captains still can't be targeted in transports on the battlefield with a Stratagem, but they can be targeted while on the Battle Barge, in orbit, far away from the battlefield. No I will not stop complaining about that. A Deadly Prize gets the same treatment Nurgle's Gifts got, in that it stays in effect but stop working when controlled by your opponent. And Eradicators get the same treatment Tank Commanders get and can use their rule as long as they were killed by an attack.
Apothecary Biologus +15 pts Assault Intercessors with Jump Packs (5 models) +5 pts Ballistus Dreadnought -10 pts Captain in Phobos Armour -10 pts Eradicator Squad +5 pts/3 models Heavy Intercessor Squad -1 pts/model Invador ATV -10 pts Invictor Tactical Warsuit -15 pts Reiver Squad -1 pts/model Roboute Guilliman -65 pts!!! Storm Speeder Hailstrike -15 pts Storm Speeder Hammerstrike -25 pts Storm Speeder Thunderstrike -10 pts Suppressor Squad -10 pts All Terminators -1 pts/model Vanguard Veterans with Jump Packs +1 pts/model Gladius Task Force: Fire Discipline +10 pts Stormlance Task Force: Feinting Withdrawal -10 pts Stormlance Task Force: Hunter's Instincts +15 pts
Wow! So Guilliman just got the biggest buff of the balance pass! I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him. Other than that, I don't think Space Marine players are going to be very pleased. Those nerfs are to units they've been needing to use to get success, and I don't think the buffs to the other units will help enough. Expect to see Dark Angels players experimenting with Storm Speeders though, and we'll probably start to see Ballistus Dreadnoughts as potential firing platforms.
Space Marine players will be waiting impatiently for December to come around.
Space Wolves
Arguably the top dogs of competitive 40K right now, Space Wolves have been a frustrating faction to face for a while now. The chief culprit is a build called "Wolf Jail", where the Space Wolves player loads their army with Thunderwolves and rushes them up the board at their opponent. The extremely efficient units ties up far more powerful enemies than their points should allow, leaving the opponent pinned in their deployment zone and unable to play the game. Meanwhile, the Space Wolves have the run of the board and can easily mop up any units that manage to escape the jail. By the time the opponent has dealt with the Thunderwolves, the game is basically over.
GW had tried to nerf this build in the Pariah Nexus update, but it was clear even then that they didn't go far enough. I'm wondering if we've got a Desolation Squad level nerf incoming for them.
For errata we just have some keyword fixes. The Stormfang and Stormwolf have apparently managed to escape being under the rule of Imperial law for a while now, but no longer. For FAQs these are more already understood clarifications. Again, not frustrated that GW is answering these. I'm frustrated players were trying to challenge simple rules.
Bjorn the Fell-Handed: +10 pts Hounds of Morkai: -2 pts/model Logan Grimnar +15 pts Longfangs: -6 pts/model Skyclaws (10 models): -15 pts Skyclaws (15 models): -30 pts Thunderwolf Cavalry: +20 pts/3 models Wolfguard: -2 pts/model
That is honeslty a lot of green! Only the key units took hits, with Bjorn the Fell-Handed in particular being one of the best Lord of Deceit platforms in the game right now. I'm pretty sure you still take him. Thunderwolves has gone up a further 20 pts for their basic unit. That's another 20% on top of prior nerfs. But that's still 40 points for a 4 wound model with a 3+ save, 7 anti-infantry attacks, a plasma pistol, and a ton of mobility in Stormlance. This is not even close to a Desolation Squad or Bully Boyz level nerf. I think that actually might just be a good price for them.
Space Wolves are still good, but hopefully they won't be oppressive.

Please cite your sources... and errata
Ever since I did the long post on Worldwide Story Structures and then edited the list of Story Structures on Wikipedia, more and more blogs, articles and so on have been popping up with the information I sourced when I backtrace and relook up the names of the story structures.
This is great! Because this means things like the Wikipedia page for Confessional has gotten longer with more sources added. People are paying attention more and so some of the ones I struggled with now have more information out there as people wear it with pride.
But this has also resulted in a new string of people not giving credit where credit is due and wholesale stealing from mainly Wikipedia or doing it poorly without understanding what they are taking (psst, mostly white people and white men, which I covered is somehow a past time and a trend...).
I'm really begging you, given what I've outlined over and over again to NOT do the latter. Please, please give credit to where you got your ideas. Do citations. Also, I've noticed that people have taken my ideas directly from my page, and then not given credit to me. And that one stings. I spent hours tracking down and experiencing story structures from the countries where I cited stories of different types to come up with the ideas, but then they cite usually white people instead. WTF. You took my ideas one for one, down to the wording, but can't cite the academic that came up with it or why? Haven't I gone over the dangers of this already? Like calling out Kenneth Rowe? I spent all that time citing what Freytag really said and people still want to hold on very strongly to the notion he came up with a different diagram, and call it "Updated" in what imagination? Just cite your sources and say it was also Syd Field, etc like I outlined and then give me damned credit for putting in the hours of tracking it down.
Look, I have the degree, the education, I bothered to give the sources and just because my gender is not man and my skin color is not white, does not mean my ideas and the work tracking down primary sources is not "valid". Stop being AHs and taking the hours I gave to you for free, the money I spent on books by erasing the credit when I argued really, really hard that you need to give credit to your sources.
The reason you cite your sources is so people can hold them to account for their ideas, so the person researching can inquire, why do you think that? Also exceptions to the rule... what about this? If they can't inquire, then it's much, much harder to hold the specific person and their ideas to academic rigor. I know that your professors went on a rant about how plagiarism is evil on a personal level and Kenneth Rowe was a professor that plagiarized and somehow got Shakespeare and Aristotle wrong, despite specializing in both, but as I've shown, it also destroys on a systemic level, because people can't name the source of the information and can make up crap, such as Aristotle wanted a 3-Act structure and say things like, "I heard that Aristotle was a sissy pants." and everyone believes them because what? You cited nothing, you just cited everything Aristotle wrote so they can't examine things like if the statement is true because they didn't read beyond Poetics 7 and didn't have enough background to understand that Readercism really, really doesn't work well in this case because the invention of the 5-paragraph Essay was in the 19th century, messing with how people think and organize.
I get it–you might hate me for some of my ideas, like say, Aristotle is a sexist pig, which he is. And Aristotle is not Jesus. Which he isn't. But you should at least cite your sources, especially when those sources have taken the time to cite other sources, like the primary works with page numbers, showing things like where the diagram for Freytag comes from (and how much of a genocidal AH he was).
Cite your sources, even when you hate their guts, like finding out Freytag was a pre-Nazi Fascist–I can cite the History of Opera (Lucy Worsley's Nights at the Opera (TV Mini Series 2017) and Wagner and how Freytag glows with how much he loved Wagner's The Ring saying that they now outstrip Shakespeare. When I say that Freytag was a pre-Fascist, I can cite his love of the middle class, imperialism, and love of the idea that Polish people would be wiped off the face of this Earth. Why? Because I bothered to read the original text. And because I did that I can cite the page numbers where he said so because I posted it up on my blog. And because I cited the page numbers, someone can chime in that I'm wrong.
Also, stop citing white people on PoC things. Favor own voices and stop erasing credit. I was very purposeful in citing the people I did. I spent hours using Japanese I learned, Chinese I learned, etc to make sure it was correct--which includes the Kishotenketsu diagram--which for some reason in the Kishotenketsu Wikipedia people deleted the credit for the diagram to the people I got it from where? Japanese people--something I took 2 years to find and edit in. WTF. What's wrong with you? (Someone also took the diagram and colored it badly and then erased the credit and then explained it on Youtube--the diagram I made off of the Youtube video I credited... c'mon.). They also took a bunch of the words I wrote for the page and gave no credit to Wikipedia. Do better, white dude.
I'm not asking for credit because I want it, and have an ego—no, what I want is the ability of people to interrogate their sources. To correct me down the line. To be able to check back to see if the statements made are original or not and then interrogate the truth of the matter. Because if anything, my journey through the idea of a singular "true" story structure that never changed over time, has proven very much to be false. And it took me *forever* and a day to unwind this myth. So I'd like subsequent generations to also be able to interrogate my work too. But they can't do that if they don't have access to my words, thoughts, and how I selected the parts of the text that I did. I'm very open to being wrong. I want to be corrected--I make errors all the time. And they are free to disagree from there. Much like I hate the idea that Aristotle thought that women get a soul later than men, because, as I said, he's a misogynistic pig and it was not the times.
Oh look, a citation. You can interrogate the source now.
And the source cites: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4021448/
Now you can interrogate the people who came up with it and find out where Aristotle said that.
The source says: "This question has evoked human thinking since ancient times. Hippocrates (460-370 BC) argued that man and woman each contributed semen that mixed in the uterus to form the embryo, whereas Aristotle (384-322 BC) favoured a more male-centred view that the woman merely provided fertile ground for the male seed to grow. "
With the numbers in place, then you can look at other sources such as: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(05)71025-4/fulltext
And you see, new vocabulary pops up. Then you might ask, where did Aristotle say that? And now that you have vocabulary, you can find out if it's a myth or fact.
And from there, I was able to find the original source of the statement from Aristotle, and find the original text. (Which BTW, is still a misogynistic piece of crap) and add it back to the wikipedia page (which I did) De Anima 350 BCE.
I don't want to be cited because I think I'm correct. I don't want to be cited because I have an ego. I want to be cited because I'm pretty sure someone might think I'm wrong, and I want them to be able to inquire into my line of thinking and how I selected sources so that I might be corrected or examined down the line.
So stop being a white straight male, well, usually, and cite your sources. Your privilege isn't going to cushion you from being called out as wrong and a plagiarizer. And do you want to end up being called an imperialistic imperializer who hates PoCs? Please cite your sources and make sure your sources say what you think they say. If you don't, I or someone else is likely to find you and call you out. And don't make it me, because I do check sources.
BTW, more PoCs need to be "allowed" to have writing manuals without half of the internet breathing down their neck for not being white enough because that half of the internet didn't bother to read anything outside of European canon or want to imperialize European ideas of story on the rest of the world.
Oh, you made it this far... here is your reward; https://www.positivelyfilipino.com/magazine/the-joy-of-kuwentuhan
A story structure/story type that's older than colonization.
BTW, also watched a film from Filipino filmmakers and the story structure I cited earlier with the introduction (longer than the US) and the Third act (or second, if you're working off of the 3-act) had an inversion in "What if" (2023) which amused me a lot. I love when people play with expectations. Previously, I said Pinoy filmmakers try to leave the story structure behind and do something else, but to see someone expertly play on an old one and then flip it—that was magic.
#cite your sources#dammit at least give credit#So I've been seeing people take my ideas about the story structure of Kishotenketsu without credit after I spent years watching dramas...#watching anime and reading books without name credit and giving it to other people who don't cite their sources and said no such thing.

I am not shamed to admit that I am a traditional Catholic…
As a “trad” as many people refer to me as, it is important to remember some key elements. When learning theology you can’t use the clips and phrases found on News media (both secular and Catholic) as your end all be all. I have been keeping up with the most recent synod…to see the current reactions and stretches that have been made have been appalling. Linked on the post I have the direct Vatican source as well as a unbiased (as far as I am able to discern) video going over the most recent dubias. The behavior and reactions of those who seemingly hold the title of Catholic is sickening at their ability to scorn and denounce the Pope over wicked lies and false information.
As Catholics we must submit to and pray for our Holy See!
We are not called to ‘like’ him or think he is the best Pope to ever grace our history, but remember what our Bible says…
Romans 5:8 “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Matthew 25:40 “The King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me”
But I continue, we are called to love and support each other. Everyone knows the phrase “love the sinner hate the sin” and although I do not believe that the Pope is the sinner in this situation it reminds us that we are all fallen and are trying to live like Saints, so listen to the words of the man trying to guide us and make prudent decisions when listening…

Do you guys want to see the scariest forum thread I've ever seen (/j)?
Behold! A GITP thread where OP says there is no way to make a class break 3.5 by RAW no matter what you do with it.
Oh, Truenamer.
Some stupid rules/gameplay highlights, but the tone is really what gets me XD
Well, pg. 200 lists it as untyped, pg. 196 says it's a competence bonus, and pg. 233 says its a circumstance bonus.
WotC literally forgot to include the DC to speak these utterances and had to include it in the errata. No, I'm not joking. That should give you an idea of just how much effort went into this section. (Whether "this section" refers to the LPM section or the Truenamer section is left as an exercise for the reader.)
That means that in order to have any chance at all of succeeding at a Quickened utterance, you had to have had a greater than 100% chance of success before you Quickened it. Think about that for a minute. They printed this feat being fully aware that you needed to have that kind of Truespeak mod. That says something about this whole mess, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Anyway,
Yes, this means that the typical DC goes up by 2 every level, while you can only add 1 rank every level. This is just as annoying as it sounds, and it means that you'll be spending a disproportionate amount of time trying to boost this check . . . then trying to figure out what to do with the check once you've boosted it.
If you're willing to take up the pom-poms and make the party members who were already more awesome than you even more awesome than they already are, the Truenamer can do that,
I'm not actually recommending this feat. I'm just pointing out something stupid, because we clearly haven't seen enough of that yet. I believe that this is intended to be similar to Spell Focus or Utterance Focus, but as written, what it does is make the Truespeak DCs harder, not the save DCs.
The first Law of WotC Hates Truenamers, this is an annoying little rule that makes Truenaming harder as the day goes on. All those utterance DCs I gave you above are just for the first time you use any given utterance during the day. Each time you succeed, the DC of that particular utterance increases by 2, though (in a rare display of mercy) failing doesn't increase the DC.

considering going back to orre next month. people love to make passes against the less "clean" regions like orre and unova but it's nothing like you'd expect in a brand new way every time you go there. that, plus i heard tell that some ollllld discontinued black market rocket-controlled sylph co discs were being sold there, and as much as i hate sylph, i have to say:
if i can get pre-errata wrap or bind from a guy who only kinda sorta knows how much that machine is worth, i will be set for life

We recently got a new printer to handle printing errata for my mother-in-law's celebration of life. The printer came. with a prompt to sign up for an ink subscription.
We did not sign up.
Printing programs, pictures, and other errata used up all the ink that came with the printer. A new pack of ink cost as much as the printer.
Finishing the printing used almost a complete colour cartridge.
I hate printers. They are, almost without exception, either scams for ink or scams for service (depending on ink or toner base)

Pokemon Card of the Day #2985: Unown D (Neo Discovery)

The Neo Discovery set started bringing Unown cards into the game, and 3 of them functionally gave other Pokemon type resistances. Unown D brought the only way to resist Dark into the game, which got immediate attention due to the power of Sneasel. Sneasel, of course, was banned in the rotation to Rocket-On, and it needs to be noted that Unown D was mistranslated and isn't useful in modern versions of any format. Back without any erratas, making everything resist Dark was certainly a role, though one heavily depending on the format.
40 HP wasn't going to win any awards, and due to the Psychic Weakness it wasn't even enough to avoid being taken down by Dark Gengar. The Retreat Cost of 1, at least, was useful if you had it stuck up front and it survived.
Unown D's Pokemon Power was Dark. It was played as written back in the day when Wizards of the Coast hated erratas, and it made all of your Pokemon take 30 less damage from attacks from Darkness-type Pokemon. It stopped working, for some reason, if you had more than 1 Unown D in play. This provided a small cushion against Sneasel, though not always enough, in Base-Neo back then, and the uncommon Houndoom and Tyranitar even later. It also just turned Murkrow battles into a stall war. The problem was that this was mistranslated, and the original version only protected other Unown. Why they decided to even make a card like that is beyond me considering how poor Unown cards were at anything other than this, but the modern version of the old formats with erratas make this functionally useless.
Hidden Power was 10 damage for a Psychic Energy, so there was nothing to see here.
Unown D got a bit of play really early on with the mistranslated Pokemon Power making Sneasel hit more coin flips to KO things, and even that wasn't really enough to stop it sometimes. In modern times, Unown D just sits there and does nothing, so you can safely ignore it for all your retro Neo-era needs.

that every scene is your illusioned dream.
knowing your existence is our gravest sin.
an errata in everyones life.
a guilty with a failed alibi.
condemn me to hell, cursed for immoral sins
as I soon turn pedophile, lusts for freshly new skin
always looked down upon
at school, a people pleaser
at home, a pushover loser
portrays a trustworthy gay but a 'softhearted' boy
every girl I fancied,
each callingly cutied,
are girls made up of sugar, spice, & everything nice
my idealized stereotypical girls shall be chastise
as I am a narcissist boy, who can feed them lies
a protector, feed my ego, shall be the only one in their eyes
gave them enough assurances to not suspect my eyes
that sinfully wander in disguise
I imagined them with a warped future,
always with my perverted nature,
feed them overplayed beautiful illusions
which hides my maniacal delusions
my wounded masculinity
wants to dominate a clean feminity
to regain power, respect
—i lack in that aspect
maintains a friendly yet soft reputation
to target purest souls
that would never choose retaliation
for i can only hurt a girl,
can't outdo my similar gender
for am a desperate self proclaimed fckboi
just to cover my elephant-sized ego
shriveled manly vigors
i hide in words,
pretends knowledgeable
lack of experience
hids my non existent expertise
an errata inspired. a sad boi deprived.
a lonely pedo in the makin,
a self proclaimed fboi but an actual virgin.
left a nice curated message that'll cloud their mind
and then talked shit about each & every girl behind
all for a boring life i desperately hide
an impulsive middle child everyone hates
only time can make my mask deteriorate

Warhammer 40,000: World Eaters Changes for June 20, 2024
The savage warbands dedicated to Khorne through pursuing Angron's martial perfection are another middle of the road army. On the one hand, having solidly balanced performance is a blessing when the top factions are getting nerfed. On the other, World Eaters are going to hate Secret Missions. They like hitting hard and fast, and not giving their opponent any room to score. Tough opponents that can weather the storm of blades to score later are going to be trouble for them. It wouldn't surprise me if this leads to some players abandoning Primary themselves to try for Shatter Cohesion or War of Attrition.
After their last balance past, World Eaters aren't getting anything new in the Dataslate. While I'm sure they'd like for some of these Dataslate changes to go away, it wouldn't surprise me if errata or the Codex makes these changes permanent. Fortunately, that's not happening yet. For now, we've got a decent amount of FAQ. Favored of Khorne is our newest rule to be confirmed as not useable from within a Transport but perfectly fine from Reserves. You can make Blessings of Khorne rolls with no units on the battlefield, so even if you get tabled Angron can still come back. Like many compulsory movements, you don't actually have to move Khorne Berserkers when they Surge, but they still count as having moved. Finally since it's not an Aura and doesn't list any limitations or named effects, you can use all your Icons on objectives, even if they're on the same objective.
Finally, can we get a "Blood for the Blood God!" Eightbound have finally gotten a buff! I would like to point out they are still over 45 and 50 pts a model respectively. But all and all, World Eaters should still be in a good spot for the new Season. I'm curious to see how the top players decide to interact with Secret Missions, though.

Brecht
Strengths: - He listens to his detractors and adjusts his course. It’s the kind of person you want to debate in a friendly way even when you disagree with him, because you want to know what he thinks.
- He argues for the strengths of each medium as valid and can be maximized. And fears that might be lost.
- He’s easy to read.
Weaknesses: - He is pro the Great Man Theory.
- He’s very suspicious of new technology to tell stories. He dislikes the separation between consumer and actor. Despite this, he explains why so well, that you can’t hate him.
Errata: - He’s really uplifting to read. - He believes in goodness and light. And is very optimistic. He’s hoping Epic Theater will make the most miserable person happy. I suppose this was lost along the way as interpretations grew.
- Hates Aristotle (p. 50) - Hates capitalism. - emphasizes fun.
- fought for creator rights in film. (So for example, book adaptations should have the say of the author, etc) (pg 51)
The Strength of Theater: He argues that the strength of theater is accessibility, that the performance can be adjusted, that one does not particularly need to know previous material (as with books) to understand the material, that the spectator is always on the outside of the actor, unlike with film.
p. 65

Alternatively, it was the other way around. Aziraphale hates to part with any book in his collection, so it'd make more sense to spare Jules and Vincent because Aziraphale intended to later track Jules down and say "Hey good job turning your life around! By the way, your copy of the Bible is known as the Sonny Chiba Bible, and it goes for quite a bit of money among collectors of Bible errata such as myself. If you'd be so kind as to part with it, I can pay you enough to purchase a billion copies with the correct text!"
Small brain: Pulp Fiction’s version of Ezekiel 25:17 differs from the real version because Tarantino wanted to reference old martial arts movies.
Expanding brain: Jules belongs to a sect whose version of Ezekiel 25:17 actually contains that quote. This would also add to Brett’s confusion, as he’s not familiar with that edition of the Bible.
Galaxy brain: Jules’s Bible is one of the wonky copies from Aziraphale’s shop. The bullets missed Jules and Vincent because Aziraphale appreciated Jules’s business and wanted to both repay him and hopefully nudge him toward salvation.
