Re-watching Star Plus Mahabharat (5/?)
DISCLAIMER: Whatever I say in this is about the CHARACTERS as per the way this SHOW showed them. The show=/= The Ved Vyasa Mahabharata. Don't want any more controversies, lmao. IF I mention any canon event, I will state IT. So pls, DNI if you can't handle a joke/criticism.
Bechari Kunti T-T
Surya Kaku, no, you are making a mistake 😔😔😔😔
Baccha Korn is surprisingly cute...
Also well, why are Kunti and Karna the main focus of this show? This is MAHABHARAT, not Karna ki jeevani.
I already disliked Priyamvada. Why you teaching Kunti to lie to her pati?????
I LOVE GANDHARI KA PINK AND PURPLE COMBO
Gandhari is one of the most human characters of the Mahabharata. I love her, your honour.
Someone pls write an AU with oligarchy with Gandhari, Kunti and Madri @zeherili-ankhein pls do this bhagwan ka kaam.
Also no Pandu, Ahilya knew very well that it was not Gautam, but Indra. Papaji erasure ffs
YE SATYAVATI MERA MOOD BIGAAD DETI HAI GAWD
No Satyavati, Pandu DID not win the swayamavar, he was CHOSEN. There is a difference, but aapko kaise pata, aap to ladki uthwa lete ho-
Is Dhritarashtra deliberately being nice to Gandhari to sleep with her and have 100 sons?! LIKE WTF WTF WTFFFFF HE IS BEING NICE TO HER AFTER SHAKUNI SAID KI DON'T FORGET SHE CAN HAVE 100 SONS-
New day, Same disgust
Dhritarashtra does not deserve such a sweet and loving wife.
LMAOO charioteers went out to war, and definitely needed basic knowledge of warfare, ESPECIALLY ARCHERY. That's why they also got killed during wars. Tf is Adhiratha doing, good god
"Kisi bhi kshatriya se zyada nipun ho dhanur vidya mein" anddddd how exactly did Adhiratha decide that his preteen son is better than every single warrior present?
GOD SRSLY? Js because Ambika and Ambalika are WIDOWS, they can't welcome a newly married couple?! Kaunse text mein likha hai aisa?!! Tf are they supposed to mean, that the "badluck of widowhood" transfers to the newly weds? WTFFFFF
You mean to tell me that Kunti and Pandu didn't have their first night back in Kunti Kingdom? -_-
This prepubescent baccha Karna and his equally irritating parents are getting on my nerves
LMAOOO didn't Pandu go to war to conquer various kingdoms after marrying both Kunti and Madri? Also it was Bhishma's decision to marry Pandu to Madri right after he married Kunti.
Gandhari is so pookie im gonna die
Satyavati is so proud OMG it's hilarious
LMAUUU PANDU DUSRI SHAADI KARLII HAWWWWWWWWW
I hate the way this show has villainized my pookie Madri.
In canon, both Kunti and Madri have accused Pandu of being biased for the other one, and neither of them are exactly vampish people, I wonder who is the problem....it can't be Pandu, right? RIGHTTTTTT?
NO GANDHARI DON'T SLEEP WITH YOUR PATI NAHI
Gandhari baby js wanted her husband to love her ToT
Lmao, now villainize Madri for wanting her husband to hunt a deer for her, which was a veryyy common thing back then. -_-
Srsly, can SP MB not uplift one woman without bringing/dumbing down any other woman?
And ofc, Karna is Kunti's ONLY character trait. These women were so much more than the man they married or the children they brought into this world, but clearly, no one cares abt it. Their own personality traits are trying to hog the attention of their husband and failing/succeeding to do so, and sobbing over their sons.
The Vrishnis and Madras were both looked down by the others, one for being oligarchic, and the other for being mleccha.
Kunti and Madri sismance fics, where are you...Im dying w/o you
Ig Madri did mention in canon how she was from a superior family than Kunti's (because her dad was king, ofc)
Kauravas ke aate hi bad news started ToT wtf sp mb timing ka to socho
Now Pandu will have to give up the supreme joy of sex and expensive white beds...
Shakuni is effortlessly hilarious OMGGGGG
Bhishma giving dharma ka gyaan as if he didn't js steal some girls and marry them off to his brother w/o asking for their permission
Dhritarashtra acting as if wo kitna bada gyaani hai LMAO
Also btw, it's not exactly clear in canon if the deer the rishi was with is a human in deer form or a deer only (there are sentences which imply both, in canon)
Wow, now blame this on Madri -_-
Also Madri bebe, don't cry for this dude. He is going to force himself on you. Stawp. Remember who you are (a baddie).
LMAO MADRI CHHOTI BACCHI HO KYA
Why is Madri acting like Kunti uski badi behen hai who got preferential treatment from their parents or smth TOT
Pandu, sweetie, those two CAN have sons, it's you who can't.
LOL if Dhritarashtra could be temporary king, he could also be a permanent one ToT ye kaisa logic hai
WHY IS AMBIKA A BITCH COME BACK MY POOKIE SWEETIE
Also chat, canonically, Dhritrashtra had sexual relations with a Vaishya maid for a year before she gave birth to Yuyutsu, solely because Gandhari could not sleep with him anymore, due to her expanding belly (in the pregnancy).
Dhritarashtra is so cruel to his wife, in both canon and the show.
LMFAO SHIVA IS THIS FUCKTARD DOUBTING YOUR BOON IF YES THEN PLS UPAR SE THROW YOUR TRISHUL ON THIS ADHARMI HUSBAND AND FREE GANDHARI
Chat chalo Dhritrashtra ko sooryavansham wali kheer khilado
Why does Yama have a Gada
Baby Yudi has arrived. Prepare for trouble.
LMAO DHRI YOU CHEATER MAR JAA
This is rape. He basically forced the maid to sleep with him. Disgusting.
Gandhari basically hit her belly out of jealousy that Yudhishthira was born. But I can't help but imagine how she would've felt, everyone praising Kunti while she was stuck being pregnant for 2 years, while her own husband decided to satisfy his physical needs with a maid for a legit year ever since Gandhari's pregnancy physically prevented her from sleeping with him. She must've felt so horrible. Her jealousy is not out of place, and I don't blame her for feeling that way.
Gandhari deserved a better husband, a better brother and better sons than Duryodhan and Dushasana. I am sure at least some of the Kauravas apart from Vikarna were unlike their brothers and decent human beings. And ofc, Duhshala was also there.
Good God, Ambika ko bura kyu dikha rahe ho? Js because she is the grandmother of the Kauravas, wo automatically buri ho gayi? Guess who has a certified track record of doing smth shitty towards women? THE KURU MEN. MEN.
Srsly, if someone has the most sympathies for Gandhari, then it's Ambika and Ambalika. Didn't Ambika go through a somewhat similar thing, when she gave birth to a blind child and prolly got ostrachized by her mother in law as a result?!!!
"Gandhari ke sau putra" HELL YEAH, DHRI WAS HAVING AN AFFAIR WHILE HIS WIFE WAS PREGNANT THAT MAN DESERVES SHIT

Recently I came across a Lawyer trying his hand at writing, Gaurav Mohanty (@thekingbeyondthewall in Instagram) and his arguments defending his book 'Sons of Darkness' as a "retelling" of the Mahabharata. So he openly claims his book as an interpretation of the epic. He also cites the Balinese, Javanese and Lao versions as "authentic" retellings of Vyasa's mahabharat. He says Pratibha Rai and Ira Mukhoty's Draupadi and Chitra Bannerjee Divakurni's Palace of Illusions is pioneer works to be followed. He also says the Mahabharata wasn't written for Hindus to worship it.
In conclusion, here is another righteous idiot with an inflated opinion about himself, twisting facts to suit his misinformed theories about moralistic feminism and supposed societal virtues and remotely no connection to his own roots. I could've smashed his argument to bits, but as usual, I cannot not tolerate fools.

This is the funniest thing I've read in a long while. First of all sister/brother however you identify - there is nothing to hate about Karna's guts coz the dude didn't have any (guts I mean). The sheer number of times he has run from battle is disconcerting. One time he abandoned his best friend Duryodhana at the mercy of the Gandharvas and ran for his own life.
Secondly most people who have read the Mahabharata and comprehended it would agree with me on one pivotal thing - even if Karna wasn't inherently evil and supported and at times even incited Duryodhana to violence and driven him further down the wrong path, been a jealous envious insecure man, I would solely detest him for how he addressed Draupadi. He called her a whore, he was the one who suggested Duryodhana to disrobe her in front of everyone and didnt stop at that. He told Draupadi to have physical relationships with the Kauravas. This is considerable as a precursor and intent to rape. (And no, Draupadi stopping Karna from participating in the swayamvara because he was a suta is wrongly interpolated and has been proved to be a propagandist manipulation by caste politics many times over)
Also, hon, the Mahabharata *is* a religious text as much as a literary masterpiece. You can not call it limiting for being a religious text only because it doesn't suit your creative space. Some of the characters of the Mahabharata are Hindu gods and goddesses who are worshipped by us still. It is as religious as the Bible or/and the Quran. I have read a million translations, adaptations, and even fanfictions on the Mahabharata that are utterly fascinating and interestingly different from the main script without them being even remotely disrespectful towards hinduism or its main edicts. If you can not engage your brand of creativity without being insulting to the main premise of the epic or its characters, then it is your inadequacies. Do not call the source material limiting.
Also, Karna is no anti-hero. People love to paint him like that, no doubt about it. In fact, Ashwatthama is much more deserving of most things people have conjured out of thin air and donated to Karna's character. He was a warrior equal to Arjuna's mettle. He never complained, never whined, never blame shifted on anyone. Supported Duryodhana in the war out of respect for his father and because of his friendship with Duryodhana but never took his shit or advocated his evil machinations. He can be called an antihero to some extent.
Oh, please enjoy what you like. No one told you not to like Karna. Creative liberties are well and good as long as one doesn't start confusing it with the actual facts of the source material. Something which I have seen being pretty rampant nowadays.
Im not shitting on your choices, but if you start giving general statements as facts that are utterly incorrect, I will have to debate that.

And this ☝️ seriously? Are we doing whose horse is bigger again? Im much too old and busy for even trying to counter this.

~•Kiriti and Kalyani•~
Eyes of sapphire meet the orbs of gold
Beneath the hallowed arch of Fate
A tale of love and loss spun since eras untold
A union the heavens had longed await
Of him who was God's own dearest
And His ivory sword sharpened as well
Of her who was sunshine on blue lotuses kissed
And the burning cinders in hearths that dwell
An arrow shot and six lives bound undone
A yearning unsated deep in their being
Of sublime evenings and many a buried son
A siren song of duty mired amour does sing
Warriors a pair curtained in a crimson haze
Dancing at the edge of despair and desire
Bound by destiny's ambrosiac maze
Is the Prince of Lightening and the Princess of Fire

Did everyone just IGNORE my bigass reblog in the middle? (ಥ﹏ಥ)
I literally gave reasons why he is completely horrible, should never be followed by example, and that no one treated him any worse for wear.

You know, it's the second curse that gets me more. I mean, why the fuck was Karna trying to get his chariot's wheel out of the mud? What was the purpose? He couldn't fight without the chariot?
Arjun fought plenty well standing on the ground on the 14th day against the chariot riders. And there were multiple warriors attacking him simultaneously that time. No one could make a single scratch on him.
Also, how he got cursed for the second time is also hilarious. I mean, the dude shot an arrow randomly cause he was so frustrated he didn't even see where he was aiming? It's like a guy shooting random ppl or animals on the street out of aggression and for no good reason.
As for why I hate Karna, idgaf about the curses, and even that he was a jealous lout and a general PoS who supported Duryodhana and Shakuni in all of their nefarious schemes quite happily. One should only read the Draupadi vastraharan parva for getting the major ick for Karna. He is technically a sexual assaulter.
Anyone who so as even suggests that a woman be forced into physical intimacy with other men is a rapist pig. And there is no scope for argument here. Not one bit.
Also let us not forget this is the same guy who was complicit in the murder of a kid less than half his age, slaughtered him after helping cuttoff his allies from trying to assist, and broke his bow from the back. And if that was not enough, cheerfully celebrated his death like a shameless SoB.
Karna ran away like a coward, leaving his best friend in the clutches of the Gandharvas, and instead, Arjun and Bheem had to rescue Duryodhan. So much for that world-famous loyalty.
Then, he talks about how he would not leave Duryodhan's side after provoking the latter into a dynastic civil war for a throne which Duryodhan has no claim over, letting him throw away a perfectly unfair yet terribly good option of giving away only five villages instead. Sanctimonious prick!
There is so much evidence to simply dislike Karna, but one is enough to hate that worthless entitled green eyed git. Any self-respecting woman and any decent man worth his weight would deride Karna for what he said about Draupadi, let alone what he lewdly suggested doing to her.
He isn't even worth a fraction of the dust under the Pandavas' feet, forget being compared to them.
PS: And no idc if he was abandoned by Kunti. He was adopted by loving parents who were pretty wealthy and of good social status. And no, he was not discriminated against because of his caste. No, Drona didnt reject him any education nor did Draupadi reject him in the swayamvar neither insulted him. Stop watching SPK and Starplus. He was not of lower caste, and neither was anyone bothered in which supposed hierarchy he belonged to. The Pandavas had a much shittier childhood and overall life compared to Karna.
PPS: Also, this is all based on actual sources and not something I pulled out of thin air. Don't come at me with TV serial knowledge, podcasts, and any folklore or Nanni ke kahani and poetry you have heard. And god forbid, Devdutt Patnaik and co. Gahhh...

Well, if we are talking about who was the better person, I guess there are numerous well known instances in the texts which intellectually no one can argue against.
So if it is only about who was the better warrior... again despite there are several points of comparison which clearly demarcates the superior one, I did write an obscenely long analysis on the Matsya War (Virata Parvam Khanda) which you can check if you want (Warning : Its a pretty wordy meta)
Here's the link, if you are interested.
I know this is an old debate but I would seriously like to hear from people (with reasoning) on the Arjun vs Karna situation
