I would like to expand on this a little.
1. Apparently, only the uk version (out of the english ones) includes the word "scottish"
2. I accept the existence of "parody" countries, like they have something exactly like on Earth but it never explicitly states it (i love the nacmacfeegles from Discworld)
3. The book is clearly from morrigan's perspective which implies her knowing the word "scottish"
4. I just thought it would be funny to break down a line that implies Scotland is a canon event
Okay. A quick rant about what annoys me in Nevermoor, as a fantasy writer.
In Wundersmith, Thaddea is said to have a "thick scottish accent".
A scottish accent. In a FANTASY WORLD.
Is there Scotland in the Unnamed Realm? Is it like our Scotland or different? Did they also, for some reason, invent bagpipes and haggis? Will we ever get the answer to why there's a random scottish person in a completely fantastical setting? Or is Jessica Townsend trying to say that Scotland is a fae realm that just wound up on Earth by accident?
Give me contacts to Jess, I just want to talk.

Squall: why did I agree to teaching her again? Is it too late to choose murder?
squall is the type of person that would absolutely INSIST that the battle of Christmas eve is nothing but a bunch of cheap tricks, would be really cynical and act like he hates the whole ordeal. and then show up wearing a red hat that morrigan forced him to wear. just standing ominously on the outer ring, glaring at everyone, very begrudgingly clapping for saint nick because morrigan told him to
conversation went something like
morrigan: yule queen or saint nick
squall: neither, i dont engage with such foolish performances, nor endeavor to support either
morrigan: yule queen or saint nick
squall: both are inept frauds who poorly imitate the skills wundersmiths practice and hone for decades
morrigan: yule queen or saint nick
squall: they profit off of the public's own ignorance of nevermoor's history regarding our kind and take advantage of the wundrous society's suppression of its past
morrigan: yule queen or saint nick
squall:
morrigan:
squall: yule queen
morrigan: wrong (throws red hat at him)
squall: i am not going to wear this
morrigan: see you on christmas eve

the worse climate disaster gets, the more you’ll see closet eugenicists start to advocate for letting people die. you need to be prepared to combat the ideology wherever you see it, because it’s only going to get worse and worse Read everything having to do with climate disaster critically. If the central argument underlying what’s being said is that the death of disabled and/or racialized people is inevitable, natural, or desirable– that’s a fascist.
they might be appear to be a garden variety republican or liberal or even a leftist at first, but know that if that argument is being made, their underlying ideology is one of supremacism, and given additional climate stress, they will become more blatant about it.

Sometimes a babygirl is a 100-something-year-old serial murderer with god powers <3
i would like to inform everyone that, despite being a murderer, Ezra Squall is in fact actually babygirl <3

Well now I have to pray to Athena/Apollo/any god that will listen to get rid of my boobies and vagigi
Random thought but imagine Trans Telemachus, otherwise known as the Translemachus AU (thinking of EPIC)
Telemachus realizes she's a woman long before Odysseus makes it back to Ithaca, and of course, Penelope knows. And Penelope supports her trans daughter.
Fast forward, Odysseus comes home, and he is like "mY SON :DDD oh you wear dresses. Cool!"
And Telemachus is so scared to correct her father that she's like "yep, i am son. Hi dad"
Fast forward AGAIN
They're all spending time together as a family and Penelope suggests that Telemachus talks to Odysseus (Penelope knows her husband will be supportive) so Telemachus tells him.
Just. Like. Imagine Odysseus's face goes completely blank.
Telemachus: Father? Oh, gods, I'm so sorry, you must be so ashamed to have me—
Odysseus: FUCK THE SIRENS WERE RIGHT— 🎶my real wife knows I don't have a daughter!🎶 FUCK FUCK FUUUCK
Telemachus: ...Huh?
Odysseus: I support you my darling daughter but I have some souls to apologize to for misinformation
Idk bro, this was funnier in my head
Also, if I remember right, Greeks described being trans as Apollo getting drunk and putting a soul in the wrong body (correct me if I'm wrong) so just imagine Odysseus trying to fight Apollo every time his daughter gets body dysphoria—

jokes to make after failure that aren’t self-deprecating:
I’m the best to ever do it
Nobody saw that (best if said loudly)
No one’s ever done it like me
I could be President/they should make me President
Behold, a mere fraction of my power!
The public wants to be me soooooo bad
I’m an expert in (thing you just failed at)
How could this have happened to god’s favorite princess?
Nothing ibuprofen and a glass of water cant fix
I’m being sabotaged

Unpopular opinion but I DO AGREE. I reeeaally disliked the whole whodunnit plotline, it just didn't feel like Nevermoor. Especially since it took the spotlight away from what everyone was really hyped for, the apprenticeship with Ezra Squall. Idk, after waiting for so long for this book, this one was... amazing, great, yes. But also slightly disappointing.
Wait a minue, something doesn't sit right with me here. Also this is a silverborn spoiler so steer clear those of you who haven't finished the book.
So,
Mog goes 2 weeks without contact and her unit just lightly teases her?? The other reviews I have seen for Silverborn that said people were sort of disappointed. I understand but i let it slide because we get to see Mog just being a rebellious teenager in this one.
BUT HER UNIT WHO, LED BY CADENCE AND HAWTHORN, BROKE DOWN THE STATION DOOR TO HER ROOM BECAUSE HOTEL DEUCALION CLOSED ITSELF AND THEY WERE TOO WORRIED ABOUT HER. THIS IS THE SAME UNIT!!! I cannot abide. This is the only point where i felt like the characters aren't really written in their full glory as they were in previous books. I don't think unit 919 would have been able to live through it if Mog went TWO WEEKS without contact. I just cannot.
Other than that, DETECTIVE BLACKBURN! I love Cadence being in her element.
It was a bummer that we didn't get to see Dame Chanda here AT ALL and so less of the rest of the Hotel Deucalion family. I understand it's because it was in the silver distric and this was Mog's blood relatives arc but still a bit disappointed. Also I didn't really like the whole whodunit part. Would've loved it more as a srandalone or side book. In this (the main 4th book that I waited 5 years for) it just felt unnecessary and certainly something that shouldn't have taken 600 pages. Would have been happy if the whole silver distric jazz took only a third or even half the book instead of everything.
But still, JACK 😭😭😭😭 AND THE END?? this is just breaking my heart.
I love this world Townsend has created. But i really really found myself invested in only certain section of the book. The beginning was great, and the end 😭 (obviously). And in the middle, i only was invested to know about Bertram and a bit about Mog's mum (and Jupiter's letters 😭). Other than that, I found myself just muddling through the chunk of the silver district plotline and realized i was waiting and waiting to 'get back to the story.' I forced myself to survive through the bridgertonny social scandal and everything because (I really hate to say it) I was BORED.
Also, I didn't really like most of the new characters (except Bertram and Vesta Rinaldi) or didn't care about them much to find out more, including Louis and Lottie. This is only my personal bias but I really dislike characters/people like Louis and Lottie who are soooo invested in gossip and scandal and their whole lives practically revolve around it (esp Lottie seems to squeal with delight when she gets wind of gossip on other people's misery, reminds me of Kitty Beauregard. And idk how i feel morrigan being friends with someone like that. Showing how they confronted their father about his political beliefs for morrigan does nothing to make me trust them). I guess it's concerning when seeing someone like Lottie makes me see Noelle in a better light when we collectively hated how hoity toity she was in book 1. I just found the whole aristocratic scandal and whatever really boring.
But kudos to those who enjoyed it though. For readers who prefer these tropes and enjoy it, I'm glad you found something joyful.
Now that Mog's trust and faith in her found family has been strengthened, I CAN'T WAIT FOR BOOK 5
