I propose:
Galleons - ʛ
Sickles - ʄ
Knuts - ∴
The closest symbols I could find for each of the currencies. The galleon is the voiced uvular implosive used by Pottermore, the sickle continues with the IPA theme as an implosive palatal stop which was the closest I could find to the symbol in the films, and the knut is a therefore symbol.
It would be written as so:
Her wand cost 7ʛ 16ʄ 28∴ (7 galleons, 16 sickles, and 28 knuts).
Alternatively, we could switch it up entirely (because fuck canon) and use alchemical symbols instead:
Galleon - 🜚
Sickle - 🜛
Knut - 🜠
The galleon is the symbol for gold and the sickle is the symbol for silver. I couldn't find a unicode symbol for bronze, so I used copper instead as it's the main component of bronze.
It would be written as so:
All new Nimbus 3000 - only 294🜚 15🜛 2🜠!
I like the concept and look of the second version quite a lot, but the first is more immediately recognizable for the Potterverse. It's similar to what we've already seen used and it's in keeping with the janky worldbuilding vibe.
#the first one's good for fic and rps that want to keep it close to canon#the second i'd use if i were maybe attempting to elevate the worldbuilding#like it feels more magical and whimsical when you look at it#...tbh if i ever get around to writing a fantasy novel i think i'm going to use that lol#harry potter#potterverse#wizarding currency#hp fanfic#me ranting like anyone still cares about this dumpster fire 😆

seems that Chrome has around 60-65% market share, so it’s not totally dominating the market yet but it’s worrying that we’re basically reliant on Apple and Microsoft to hold the line.

I think what people are getting at with the Remadora is homophobic thing is that Wolfstar seemed to have a lot of supporting subtext in the books, which garnered a lot of fan support over the years.
In HBP, Tonks and Remus' romance came out of nowhere, leading some fans to feel that it may have been done just to "no homo" Remus. JKR's track record on LGB representation (and of course her issues with the T that have come to light) further increase fan concerns on this issue.
Yes, there are some fans who headcanon every single character as some flavour of queer and who viciously attack those who question that stance. And there are fans who hate Remadora or Tonks simply because it messes with their OTP.
But there are also fans who have fairly well thought out and intriguing critiques of JKR's portrayals of queer people, who point to Remadora as a symptom of her lack of comfort with explicitly gay characters being included in her works.
Sadly, some people will twist and dilute those ideas to "Remadora is homophobic and you're homophic if you ship them :P"
You know.........
I wonder about this quite often!
If Remadora is "Homophobic",
then..
Is Jily too.....?
Y'all it's common sense you know! If Remadora is Homophobic, Then Jily is homophobic, Ronmione is Homophobic, Hinny is Homophobic and possibly all canon ships are homophobic. Right?
We all know James is Bisexual, Lily is Pansexual, Sirius is Gay, Remus is usually Gay or Bi, Peter is Aro/Ace or Straight, Regulus is Gay, Tonks is Lesbian, Severus is usually Aro/Ace or Straight and Homophobic, Harry is Bi, Ron is usually Bi or straight, Hermione is Bi/Pan/Aro/Ace or Straight, Malfoy is the biggest Gay in the world, Parkinson is one too... Zabini (Who we met like in 3 scenes) is Gay as hell and Many more...... (These are according to the fandom/Fangirls/Fanfiction)
So is all the ships above Homophobic? I am really confused cuz people say Remadora is Homophobic but Jily is not apparently! 🤨 🤔
~Vega who is totally confused
(Not really tho..)
#and that's how we got here thank you for coming to my ted talk#there's a lot to be said about hp and jkr wrt queerness and gender roles now that she's gone mask off and imo lost the benefit of the doubt#and even stuff like bullying/redemption/forgiveness for that matter#hp#jkr#i'm a remadora shipper btw

This is what I mean about Midsommar discussions online. Any alternative interpretations are derailed with "but cult tho".
And the theory that Midsommar indoctrinates the viewer into a cult - which was quite an interesting take - is parroted when anybody comes up with another view of their own.
And it's always done with this air of superiority. I'm so much smarter than you because I see it's a cult. You'd be indoctrinated into a cult, unlike me.
Yes, good for you. You saw the internet video. You can repeat it verbatim. You know it's a cult. You know murder is bad. Can us fools go back to analyzing the characters and their journey now?
#midsommar#congrats you can spot a cult when the info is spoonfed to you and when they're overtly destructive

The cult in Midsommar is a CULT and fucked up and Christian didn't deserve any of what happened to him and if you think anything else, you're a terrible person who is easily indoctrinated.
Yes, very brave much deep take. Applaud yourself for the intelligence you have, interpreting the surface level events of the film 🙄
Midsommar is a film about a vulnerable young woman who gets indoctrinated into a terrifying, violent cult.
Midsommar is a film about a traumatized woman with no support system outside her abusive boyfriend who finds shelter in a female led community where her emotions are finally recognized and supported, who frees herself from the toxic elements of her old life with their help.
Two things can be true at once. The personal attacks against those who interpret Midsommar as a female empowerment tale is utterly insane to me. It's a horror film, not a lifetime movie. Ideas are conveyed through disturbing imagery, that's the point.
Did Carrie's teenage classmates deserve to be murdered brutally? No. Her actions were very wrong, when taken at face value. But Tumblr generally recognizes the meaning behind the story and why it feels so damn good to see her lose it.
So why is it that you guys have decided to pretend films - especially horror films - don't have multiple layers of meaning when it comes to Midsommar?
Why is it okay to attack people, calling them weak to indoctrination or saying they shouldn't get into relationships if they enjoyed seeing Christian burn, because they interpret the film in a different way?
#this website is fucked#watched midsommar for the first time if you can't tell#i know i'm super late to the party#apologies - my ex didn't want to watch it when it came out so we didn't watch it lol#definitely a good decision on his part - seeing our relationship play out on screen would have been uncomfortable for the both of us#anyway you folks are wild#do you just want to feel smarter than other people?#saying yeeeaahh but they're a CULT who KILLED people thooo#everybody knows that#obviously it'd be a terrible situation irl#in movieland less so#in movieland christian and his friends deserved to die#irl less so

This got a little too long for the tags, so I'm just gonna add it here.
I'm not 100% team fuck Iron Bull. I don't have anything against his fans, I understand why people like him and I know the writers didn't intend for some of his scenes to come off the way they did to some players.
I actually quite like Iron Bull - when he's not romanced.
Personally, I've never been able to finish his romance because the guy creeps me out. His "I know what you need, I know you better than yourself" comes across as really messed up. You can say consent is the most important thing to Iron Bull until you're blue in the face, but I don't buy it. I saw his reaction when one of my Inquisitors backed out of the BDSM stuff.
And sure, he's a spy. A great one. Highly trained at reading people. That doesn't make him psychic. To me, his assertions that he knows those close to him better than they do because Training comes across as manipulation.
Is he that good at reading people or does he fuck with people's heads so they go along with what he wants to them to do? In my opinion, a good answer to this concern is not presented in the game. To me, he comes across as a gaslighter who pays lip service to consent.
His romance with Dorian was just the cherry on top of the bad vibes sundae. I was doing my first Solavellan playthrough after romancing Dorian a couple times and didn't even know he and Bull hook up. Seeing how Dorian is with Bull and comparing it to how Dorian was with my Inquisitors was just. Weird. It was like Dorian was a completely different character from the one I had gotten to know. The paragraph above puts into words almost exactly how I felt watching things play out.
And god forbid you don't manage to get close enough to Iron Bull to do his quest or you have an Inquisitor who doesn't want to lose the Qunari as allies. I feel pressure to be besties with Bull in every playthrough where I'm not romancing Dorian, regardless of what the character I created would do, just to save Dorian from having his lover try to fucking murder him.
picture a cis guy friend of yours. he’s pretty huge and buff and gets aggro a lot of the time. he punches walls and brags about his call of duty headshots in passing conversation. he generally likes gore and violence. he laughs when people get murdered in movies and talks about how much ass he kicks all the time.
that guy.
you heard he once outed his trans guy friend to somebody without that friend’s permission. later, to your face, he says he thinks any woman who wears masculine clothes is a man, and makes a joke about fucking one of your masculine girl friends. he also makes jokes about fucking your lesbian friend, even though she is out and openly lesbian.
he mansplains everything. you experience racial oppression? he tells you what it’s like, even though he isn’t in the same boat at all. sometimes he straight up just tells you basic facts about your culture, because one time he took that mission trip and he has a buddy of his who tells him about it. somehow, he thinks you don’t know these things for yourself. experience misogyny? prepare to have it explained to you anyway, and wrong, too.
he’s got a rape fetish. he talks about this rape fetish in casual conversation. he details explicit rape fantasies about your gay friend to all your other friends.
your gay friend seems embarrassed and uncomfortable and repeatedly tells this man “no”, though you later find out they both got extremely drunk and banged. after doing that a few more times (wherein your gay friend was wasted every single time), they eventually start a shaky relationship.
Rape Friend brags publicly about how many times your gay friend came or the sex in general, in spite of your gay friend begging him to stop, and you not especially wanting to hear that yourself. rape friend shoots down gay friend’s attempts to control the nature of the relationship with reminders that the gay friend is the bottom. from their conversation, you figure they have a 24/7 bdsm relationship.
your gay friend says flat out he feels confused by and unsure of this relationship. he seems timid and exasperated around this person, where before he was extremely outgoing, and even joked about his sex life when other people nudged him about it. he was flirty, confident, and had no problems raving about how much he cared for his lovers. he is the opposite of all of those things with this new person, and has never acted like this before. you get the inkling he’s being abused, but don’t say anything about it.
eventually, rape friend turns out to have been working for a secret agency that wants to kill you and tries to murder both you and the guy friend and yeah, it’s iron bull.
that’s what iron bull is like. when you take him out of the context of being “iron bull”, he sounds like kind of a douchebag, doesn’t he? that’s why people don’t like him. if people stepped back and looked at him from the perspective of if he was a guy they were actually friends with, and not a fetish porn actor, they’d understand why more and more people are uncomfortable with him.
needless to say, i’m not excited about Rape Friend’s creator being the lead writer behind DA4.
#tw rape#tw abuse#iron bull critical#i don't want anybody to think i'm attacking their ship or fav#if you came away w a different interpretation i totally respect that and i understand how you did#just saying how things felt to me#dai

Dexter was not destined to become a serial killer. Harry made that happen. His biases from his decades in law enforcement colored his view of Dexter's childhood behaviors.
Instead of getting Dexter actual help, Harry fed into Dexter's violent tendencies and encouraged psychopathic traits. He also convinced Dexter of a bunch of nonsense based on his own flawed knowledge of what a psychopath/sociopath is.
Many of the assumptions Dexter had about himself at the start of the series (all dictated to him by Harry btw) were turned on their head by the end. I'm devoid of all emotion. I'm incapable of connecting with people. I have no empathy. I will never love or be loved.
Nothing in Dexter's childhood indicates he would have ended up a serial killer. He was deeply traumatized, confused, and struggling socially. Harry's constant "you have an unquenchable thirst for blood, right Dex?" was ridiculously irresponsible, especially considering how easily Dexter was influenced by Harry.
Makes you wonder if Harry killed himself not because he was appalled by Dexter, but because he was appalled at himself.
#harry is dexter's dark passenger#like seriously fuck that guy#wanted to get back at all the criminals he couldn't catch#so he turned the traumatized orphan he adopted into a weapon#instead of getting the poor kid therapy#dexter#harry morgan

From a psychological/origins perspective where do you think Will's "pure empathy" came from? I think the show laid hints: (Will never "connecting with the concept of family", never knowing his mom, unstable childhood, no strong bonds, etc). It sort of parallels Hannibal's unstable childhood (bonding traumas from being an orphan? ) but Will went one way (righteous lamb) while Hannibal became a great red dragon. Jesus. The beauty and layers in this show will take centuries to appreciate.
I’ve actually got a serious bone to pick with that phrase, so thanks for this excellent opportunity to rant about it! xD
Hannibal says this patently ridiculous thing after one (1) very short interaction with Will. While it’s somewhat implied that he might be aware of Will as a particularly talented investigator by reputation beforehand, he absolutely does not have a basis to make such sweeping pronouncements about Will’s psychology when he does.
What we see demonstrated by Will is a very flexible and comprehensive theory of mind. His particular talent is, as he puts it, an active imagination. And that is the most accurate accounting of what it takes to do what he does.
Empathy is fundamentally reactive, it’s the ability (or compulsion) to share emotions that are being expressed in some way by another party present. It’s not the ability to recreate the likely mindset and motivations of a person upon examining the evidence pertaining to their recent actions. Will’s got plenty of both, but I’d argue that terming his crime scene re-creation as an application of “empathy” is imprecise.
Will can “assume anyone’s point of view” because his imagination is unbounded by social norms and colloquially defined “decency.” He can look at the evidence of acts outside the boundaries of typical human experience and apply human thoughts and motivation to them, because he doesn’t just blue screen of death in the face of socially unacceptable acts of cruelty. Rather than label anyone who carries out such acts as an incomprehensible monster, he applies his understanding of the human condition and psychology to imagine what it might take to produce what he sees in front of him, regardless of how strange it may be.
The key here is that lack of boundaries for defining human behavior, which I think has much more to do with the fact that Will isn’t neurotypical than with his background.
The emotional crux of the show - his and Hannibal’s ability to understand one another in ways no one else has ever been able to - comes directly from this. When most other characters find out that Hannibal’s the Chesapeake Ripper, their whole concept of him as a person is permanently blown out of the water. They start treating him like something Other, some malicious fae creature, maybe. (Which is played with in the narrative in ways that I enjoy!) But Will, after at least somewhat recovering from his shock and fury at the betrayal, still sees Hannibal as a person. The fact that he has a murder art hobby and eats pieces of the people he kills doesn’t make the rest of who he is incomprehensible to Will.
That “pure empathy” line is one of my least favorite lines from the show; now, one of my favorite - “An abnormal reaction to an abnormal situation is normal behavior.” That’s actually a dead-ass quote from Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search For Meaning (which I could write a whole ‘nother essay about regarding its apparent influence on the show and Hannibal’s character in it, and I may someday, but probably not quite right now; regardless, it delights me), but anyway, it very neatly encompasses, in a way, both Hannibal’s psychology and Will’s. Hannibal being aware and comfortable with his deviations from the norm, and Will being for the most part uncomfortable with it. But the point is, people’s actions must be understood in terms of their experience, and that experience may be outside the boundaries of what is considered “normal,” even if the actual circumstances aren’t. Will is able to think about and really dig into the actions and motivations of serial killers when everyone else is just kind of stuck on “what the actual fuck?”
Anyway, to get more specific about it: Will is autistic. Most autistic people have to study human behavior in a much more conscious, intentional way than neurotypical people do in order to develop a functional theory of mind for other people and/or to “pass” socially (to whatever degree), and Will has not only done that, but his career revolves around it. And (speaking from experience) when everything other people say and do starts out as hard to understand, it actually ends up being easier to develop an understanding of highly atypical psychologies than it would be for someone whose general understanding for other humans is more instinctive.
I hope that makes sense!

Well, you got your flashbacks 😁
Bedelia ran away rather than talked to Jack at that time because she's not stupid. Hannibal was just able to frame a trusted employee of the FBI, a friend of the head of the BSU. If he can do that, he can kill her.
Also there was the business of her "attack" - Hannibal knew stuff she didn't want getting out.
She cares more about herself than the innocent man rotting in jail.
As for her wealth, a psychiatrist with a private practice in America can get quite wealthy.
According to some quick internet searches, these sorts of psychiatrists in Washington DC (closest to Baltimore I found) can make up to $400,000 a year.
She's probably taking home a good bit less than that, but it's still nothing to sneeze at. With a good tax accountant and some smart investments, she could have accumulated a lot of wealth.
It's also easy to imagine she came from a family that was, at the very least, not poor. With a college fund to pay for her education, she may have left school debt free.
Bedelia Du Maurier in Sakizuki
To me this was Bedelia’s ep. She was totally the center of the episode. Her mysterious disappearance was only the cream of the crop. Now I’m so hooked on Anderson’s character. There are so many questions. Why can she disappear so easily? It seems she has no social ties whatsoever apart from Hannibal in her life. She’s all alone. She totally retrieved herself from any social relationships because of what has happened in her past. We know so little about her. She seems such a wealthy person. Okay, being a psychiatrist is not the worst job regarding payments, but can you get that rich? I don’t think so. Another thing that totally surprised me was of course the ending scene with Hannibal and the perfume. Why perfume? She could have left a letter, wine, a certain kind of flower, a book anything else symbolical, but she chose to leave a bottle of perfume for him? Where they lovers at some point in the past before the mysterious patient-thingy happened? Hannibal seems to enjoy their game. Usually, he is not careless, but still he lets her get away the first time she tells him that she knows he’s a dangerous man. He totally had the option to kill her right there in his office, but he chose not to do so. Did he like their game so much? Or does he just feel affection for Bedelia or loyalty? Or both? She could totally tell Jack what her fears regarding Hannibal are, but instead she abandons her own life and lets an innocent man rot in his cell in order to let Hannibal continue his life style! I’m so so intrigued by Bedelia’s character now I want to know more, I want her to survive, I want flashbacks of her’s and Hannibal’s shared past and I want it asap.
#bedelia's wealth is pretty believable to me#she's a middle aged woman with a medical degree who owned a business#nbc hannibal#bedelia du maurier

Imagine this with me for a moment. A 16 year old gets their first job. They work two 8 hour shifts a week, getting paid $15/hour. They work 52 weeks a year. They make $12,480 a year.
Their parents cover their cost of living, so this money is used at the child's discretion. They decide to get their own cell phone and pay about $100 a month for the plan. They'll probably spend a bit on random stuff too, so let's say they end up with $9000 at the end of the year.
They put this money into a savings account. They work and spend the same amount the following year, when they are 17. At 18 they do a leap year, to improve their grade average or do a few more courses (super common when I was that age). Again they work and spend the same amount.
They now have $27,000 in their savings account. After graduation, they decide to take a year off school. They work full time. They still live with their parents, but maybe they end up spending around $600 a month for a few extras like food, clothing, and pitching in with bills.
They make $31,200 that year and add $24,000 to their savings account - bringing their total savings up to $51,000.
The average yearly tuition for university in Canada (my country) is $6,463 - $25,852 for a four year degree.
They become the first person in their family to go to university. They leave debt free.
So yes, a high school junior should absolutely be paid $15 an hour.
Guarantee you the OP is a white dude who is collecting unemployment.
#value of labor means literally nothing to these people don't even bother with those arguments#they're more about the practical side of things so give practical arguments#there's many ways to demonstrate how a higher minimum wage will benefit society as a whole in concrete terms#we need to learn how to speak the language of conservatives if we want to have any hopes of bringing them over to our side#instead of expecting them to respect our language and beliefs#because they won't#their concern is not in creating a compassionate society#minimum wage#politics
