*LOVE MONOLOGUE RANT*

As a full time Byler believer I sometimes look back at Mike's love monologue and think, what the hell was the point of it if Byler is endgame?

I know it was mostly lies, but to the untrained GA eye it makes it seem as though Mileven is basically healing (when it’s not). Also, why even make him say “I love you”?

If he didn’t say “I love you”, they would have broken up and it would be more obvious to EVERYONE that Byler would be endgame.

So why did he say it?

Because it was Mike's turn to indirectly confess.

How?

Not only it is quite literally powered by Will's “Your The Heart” speech and music, (Meaning Mike remembers what Will said and incorporates Will's feelings towards him in his confession.) He also says this...

“But I am scared that one day you will realize you don't need me anymore”

When I first heard this line it didn’t make sense to me because El NEVER showed signs of NOT needing Mike before their argument in SZN 4.

His excuse of: “I couldn’t say I love you because you're a superhero with powers and I'm an average dude who you probably won’t need one day” didn’t make sense to me  because she was powerless and average when he wasn’t able to say it.

 If anything, she was showing Mike that she needed him more than ever, with the constant cerebro calls and letters, so why did Mike feel this way?

Projection. He was projecting his feelings towards Will onto El.

Will DID show signs of not needing Mike.  Will barely called him, never wrote to him, and ignored him throughout most of the Rink o Mania day. It’s confirmed Mike tried to call him but he wouldn't pick up because of Joyce's job. WILL was the one who slowly got used to not being in contact with Mike and therefore not needing him. 

What I'm saying is, Will is the reason Mike has this fear of El not needing him anymore and “losing” her. 

THE WORD “LOSING” AND BYLER

“idk maybe I feel like I- lost you or something, does that make sense?” -Mike to Will

“your scared of losing her” 

-Will to Mike in van

“if she was mean, or seemed like she was pushing you away, it's probably because she's scared of losing you, just like your scared of losing her” - Will (via El) to Mike

we know he meant “its probably because im scared of loosing you, just like your scared of loosing me”

Mike is scared of losing Will, Mike is scared that Will won’t need him anymore, Mike didn’t say how he felt because…

“I am scared that one day you'll realize you  won’t need me anymore and I thought that if I said how I felt, it would somehow make that day …hurt more” - Mike's Love Monologe

We see a shot of Will and Jonothan right after he says this, no, not just Will, but Jonathan, the one who was in the car and knew that Will was talking via El.

We see this because this line was FOR WILL, and Jonathan knows it. (If this monologue was meant to be JUST about Mike and El, it would not have included these two)

It is ONLY when Mike says THIS line that we see Will and Jonathan. Throughout the rest of his monologue we see a shot of a distressed El right after he says something, symbolizing that he is talking TO EL.

(This is also interesting because this phrase is the only one most Bylers don’t call a lie, they usually skip over it because of that.)

“your my superhero and, I can’t loose you” -Mike's Monologe

(Finn said in an interview that the “your my superhero” line was improv, they most likely kept the superhero line to further insinuate that Mike does not view El as an equal and rather just admires her)

so the original script was meant to just say “I can’t loose you”

In conclusion, Mike's love confession was really just a scene that was meant to respond to Will's love confession. This is why his words feel out of place. This is why there are so many lies and the only truth that is spoken is before the camera turns to Will. Mike is projecting his feelings for Will onto El. Mike is in love with Will.

If I'm right, if we are right, Byler is one of the best written slowburn ships of all time.

I wonder if the fact that Will and Mike aren’t in the teaser is the opposite of what we think. Like they’re doing it to NOT get accused of queer baiting and David’s statement about byler also leaves me under that impression. Like what if instead of Noah deleting his acc after liking the loverslakegate post wasn’t because he was spoiling but because they advised him not to feed into it so they don’t get accused of queerbaiting. Idk ganggg

Holly Wheeler will NOT vanish.

At least, nobody whose name begins with the letter "H". The Duffer brothers just shared this on their Instagram.

If you zoom in close, the beginning of the next letter is peeking out near the top. It's way too close to the word "Of" and thus has to be a letter whose top half extends outward. This brings the options down to T, W and V.

My money is on Ted Wheeler (which would explain his absence in the scenes with Karen and Holly).

The other possibilities I can think of are Vickie, Vecna or maybe something like "Will Byers II"? What do y'all reckon?

"Mike just wasn't expecting the kiss"

Okay, I understand where the Mileven shippers are coming from. A shocked expression after a romantic kiss is a popular trope. We need look no further than Lumax's first kiss at the end of Season 2.

So why aren't we all sitting here theorising about Lucas being gay and not being attracted to Max? Well... the trope has two parts:

1) the initial shock

2) the smile of relief afterward

Mike, though, looks visibly confused and even a tad uncomfortable. The Duffers even had the opportunity to throw in some dramatic irony with Mike cracking a smile AFTER El left the room. But his demeanor remains exactly the same.

There is no heterosexual explanation for this. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

This is also not the first time Noah Schnapp has been compared to Tom Holland (they both are the kings of giving out spoilers with no hesitation). Maybe, this was a lil Easter egg Noah was able to sneak in through the costume department?

Jancy will make way for Byler in Season 5

Hear me out. In Season 1, after Jonathan and Nancy discover the Upside Down and nearly get attacked by a Demogorgon, he stays over in her room. This is when Nancy says:

And that leads to:

We're already about 90% sure that the Byers will be staying at the Wheeler house at least in the beginning of the season, because they've got nowhere else to stay in Hawkins.

Karen knows by now that Jancy is a thing, so there is no way she's letting them share a room. The compromise? She's gonna ask Mike to move in with Nancy for while and give up his room for the Byers brothers to share.

And then.... inevitably... as we have already seen happen earlier in Murray's house.... Jonathan will sneak into Nancy's room or vice versa. They'll tell Mike he has to swap and sleep with Will instead.

And this will make way for the best Jancy/Byler parallel EVER.

Since this is Mike's room, I think there will be a role reversal here and Will will be the one sleeping on the floor. That's when Mike will say to him:

Can you just come up here?

I definitely think Mike will be the one to say this, because Will has accepted in his mind that the two of them will never work out. This will also be a great way to signal to the audience that Byler is NOT one-sided.

Now, of course, I'm not actually expecting anything physical to happen between them. But there will definitely be some pillow talk that blurs the lines between platonic and romantic.

Mike: Please promise me that you'll fight. I can't lose you again.

Will: Don't worry. You'll have Eleven, right?

*Mike's face looks troubled and conflicted*

Mike: ...It's...different.

Will: What do you mean?

and then... BOOM. They're interrupted by something and the storyline picks up in Volume 2. This is my headcanon, and I will DIE ON THIS HILL.

I also wouldn't be opposed to another Byler hand-hold during this scene (so that it's made abundantly clear to the GA that this is happening and this is real).

Or.... what if Mike has to move into Nancy's room so that Will and Jonathan can share Mike's room....BUT...at night.... Nancy asks Mike to swap because she wants Jonathan to sneak in.... and Mike has no issues with that whatsoever....

What if, instead of Will sleeping with Mike in his room, they both sleep in the basement, like sleepover's. even though Mike can sleep in his room normally, he chooses to be next to Will. And everyone they talk about something while laying together, looking at the ceiling like there's something special there.

And when they go to sleep, Mike says good night with the same damn smile he makes at Will in the van scene

I'd really love to hear a Mileven shipper's view on why Mike looked back at Will's house in the final scene of Season 3. This screams Byler proof to me.

Dramatic lookbacks are a very common trope in movies to illustrate that the person has romantic feelings for someone. And importantly, it's only Mike looking back. I wouldn't be as a skeptical if all 3 of them shared a final look at the house to show that they would miss Will.

Also, the timing of this scene is important because it's right after Eleven kisses him and his facial expression does not seem happy in the slightest. If Mike really loved her, I would think he would be relieved because she had broken up with him earlier. In my opinion, that was a moment of realisation for him about his sexuality. And with both Eleven and Will moving away at the same time, Mike is struggling to understand why he's missing his male friend more than his girlfriend.
