KOBY’S GLOW UP: EXAGGERATION OR SAD REALITY!?!?!?

Hello once again dearest Koby lovers, Koby fandom, Koby community and Koby cult.

(As well as general enjoyers of one piece)

I… don’t usually make posts like this but I’ve had this headcanon/theory/canon analysis in my mind for a REALLY long time now, and it makes so much canon/logical sense that personally I’ve just come to accept it as canon in my head. Lmao. (The definition of a headcanon but ok)

I also want to clarify this isn’t some crazy “OMG WHAT A TWIST!!” Type of theory, it’s just me linking some general knowledge I happened to have to the world of One Piece, and I’m 100% sure this has been thought of and/or discussed before, but I’ve seen a lot of people joke about/theorize another thing and I wanted to show my version of events!!

So anyways!! This concerns Koby’s glow up. Which is INSANE, yeah? Before I go into a homosexually fueled discussion about Koby’s physical appearance let me explain what I’ve seen discussed in the fandom regarding it.

So basically, I’ve seen a lot of comments about either:

A.) Koby’s glow up being insanely massive and low-key unrealistic

B.) His glow up being due to Garp “breaking his bones”

These two are valid things to discuss/think, and the latter is mostly a joke, I think, but I am here today to present a third option, a solution if you will, which in my opinion elevates canon and makes a lotta sense and also makes Koby’s backstory even sadder…

So!! Basically, we’ve seen how badly Koby was treated during his time on Alvida’s ship, right? He was abused, exploited, practically enslaved, for a very long time. And being a pirate is hard, and having lots of healthy food around on a pirate ship is hard, and the whole crew treated him like shit and what I’m trying to say here is there is no way in fucking hell Koby was being fed properly while on Alvida’s ship. My boy was probably starving most of his time there, leading to his small frame.

Now, a byproduct of malnutrition in children is stunted growth, but specifically delaying puberty. I believe koby joined Alvida at around 14? And puberty starts in boys at ages 9-14. He then stayed part of Alvida’s crew for 2 years.

All of this is to say, in conclusion, Koby had started suffering from severe malnutrition at the start of his teenage years, therefore stunting his growth and delaying the physical effects of puberty, thus giving him this young, weak, little boy look despite being 16 at the start of the series (he looks about. Like 10-12.) I believe, he was naturally smaller, but the lack of a proper diet for those two years was what caused him to look so small, and once he joined the navy and Garp took him under his wing, started training him properly, and feeding him the right fucking amount, the effects of his delayed puberty came in at irregular speeds (couple o’ months), thus causing a growth spurt the likes of which this world has never seen.

Yay!1!1!1! Correct me if any of this is wrong I just. Read it somewhere once idk.

To summarize:

Koby + malnutrition = delayed puberty so therefore Koby + good diet + training = sexy???? I mean massive growth spurt.

I am, paradoxically, not quite sure what I was expecting, while simultaneously having known how it ended and having watched the last scene already….

But damn

Okay so first of all gabrieelzebub was NOT on my good omens bingo card but I’m not mad. It was sweet. Very funny how aziracrow have spent over 6000 years dancing around one another meanwhile these two were just like.

-yeah sure.

I will say I thought it was a little random. Outta left field. Out of the blue? And I sort of felt like that about the episode overall? Idk but they’re adorable I’m happy about it.

On the other hand I’m quite glad Maggie and Nina didn’t get together cause it just. Didn’t feel right. And also, not to like. State the obvious. But I liked how they were the ones giving the romantic advice to aziracrow in the end.

Now a paragraph dedicated to Muriel cause I fucking love them and I need everything good in life to happen to them and I want to hug them very badly Muriel you are my goat and I love you.

I also wanted to say FANTASTIC ACTING from both David Tennant and Michael Sheen and honestly everyone else cause god. That was peak. I could almost SEE the thoughts in their heads I am in utter awe. Especially Crowley. And after the whole deal, Aziraphale, distraught? Confused? Utterly destroyed? FANTASTIC I could see it all on his face coming over in waves and OH my HEART.

And the KISS was so SAD :( somehow. I felt the bone deep frustration within that kiss it was :C

So yeah. I think this series is fucking fantastic. I pray to God and Satan simultaneously that the s3 silly special will fill the whole this has left on my heart

Narumitsu.

I love them. Like a lot.

Every time I think of them my heart swells.

I really can’t properly express with words how great I think narumitsu is as a concept.

I mean, the only reason I got into Ace Attorney and spiraled into glorious obsession for several months (typically my hyperfixations last just a couple weeks) was because I kept seeing fanart of them and thinking to myself holy shit. This is peak. What the fuck. Who ARE these guys?!?

I just think their dynamic is the best thing I’ve ever seen and I want to stare at them day and night, simply *existing* in multiple angles, situations, universes, media…

I want to put them under a microscope damn it! And study their goddamn relationship and write a damn good scientific paper about it beCAUSE it’s so interesting!!

Back to the dynamic thing, it’s just something about the classic rivals to lovers thing with a dash of childhood friends and a great amount of wiggle room for personal interpretation, their canonical moments, both of their incredibly fun, interesting personalities, and their, in my opinion, innate chemistry that mixes together so well into a DELICIOUS cocktail that can and will feed me for decades in terms of ideas, content, and happiness.

It’s just nothing like I had seen before in a ship! I mean, listen, I described it above, I know they technically fulfill two very common tropes in shipping, but their relationship, at least to me, still constantly feels unique, always fresh, perhaps precisely because of that wiggle room mentioned earlier, perhaps because the game does such a fantastic job at characterizing both characters, perhaps simply because I love them so much.

But I love them so much BECAUSE of all of the above!!

I do think the main reason is that the characters are so enjoyable to watch do practically anything; the creativity and passion of the Ace Attorney fandom always manages to astound me, I believe the fact that the very games we love are so fun, and unique, and creative themselves that has created a community with creators that like to think of new ideas, put their own twist into the characters, and THAT is what makes narumitsu so great. Maybe.

Cause they’re so flexible! They are perfect, and enjoyable in any way shape or form; you can ANGST em, you can FLUFF em, you can make them have FREAKY GAY SEX or, my personal preference; ALL THREE IN QUICK SUCCESSION.

(You can also, of course, enjoy them platonically, which is JUST as awesomesauce)

I mean, never in my life has a fictional couple of dudes made me feel this insane and crazy and deranged. I have spent sleepless nights just reading fanfiction or, on occasion, simply THINKING about them for hours. My hyperfixation may be over, yes, but the passionate fire that narumitsu sparked in me continues to burn brightly even now.

But yes, when I first hit that Ace Attorney obsession peak they may have genuinely been all I could think of. To quote myself from a few months ago:

“WHATS THE POINT OF LIVING IF NOT NARUMITSU, YK? THEY ARE SO IN LOVE, PHOENIX YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SMITTEN AND IT CAUSES ME PROBLEMS IN MY DAY TO DAY LIFE, I COULD THINK ABOUT GAY LAWYERS TILL THE END OF MY DAYS MAN.”

And:

“EVERY TIME I THINK ROMANCE IS DEAD NARUMITSU POPS UP ON MY FEED AND REMINDS ME WHAT LOVE REALLY IS.

IT’S GAY LAWYERS.”

And truly, that’s the crux of this issue, isn’t it? Narumitsu is just so peak, in so many ways, they inspire me to keep going sometimes I swear.

Before narumitsu, I had never even attempted to draw two people interacting, because I was bad at it! But they gave me the courage to try, I met them and I saw their love, and they skyrocketed to first place in my mind’s “Neptune’s top ships” list so fast they could’ve broken the sound barrier.

And I thank them, truly, for introducing me to one of the best things that’s happened to me, for bringing me into this game’s world of chaos, fun, distress, drama, love, fear, and lots of yelling. Because I love it. Because it’s now a part of me and because I will continue to carry its lessons and the joy it has brought me forever.

So perhaps it’s that love for them, that can be felt through the screen, in every comma, in every brush and pen stroke, in every word, sentence, breath, paper mache project, that makes them so great, the love for AA and narumitsu manifesting into the most wonderful creations, shared, enjoyed, loved.

All of this is to say, in a bunch of words, that narumitsu tops, and I love them very much.
