so! my sweetheart jom thoughts,no particular order

ive been wondering why jom is so hard on yo and i think he kinda sees himself in yo? the kid who is away from home, whose parents are disappointed, except for him, there is a clear way out! just do this, this one single thing, and your parents will be so proud! also, other side of this: yo's parents love him so much that they're willing to do this for him. yo should be a huge disappointment to his family, right? couldn't even finish high school, shows no ambition, and he even tried to steal the girlfriend of a politicians son! and his parents react by: making sure he has everything to make up for his mistakes in a safe environment??? jom's dad would never. and so, he's harsh with yo and reminds of his parents' efforts because yo has this chance to make his parents proud, his parents who love him so much and who have already forgiven him and just want the best for him.

these idiots are almost exactly the same person. they're stubborn when they want to be, they have the fieriest of tempers both, they often say things they dont really mean, they follow their own stupid little heads and hate being told what to do, but for their own people? will go to the ends of the earth.

what does yo see in jom is another thing ive been wondering about. i think the age difference for sure plays a role in this, that jom is treating him as something of an equal most of the time, and they do not refer to each other as phi nong (though i am waiting for that!!!), diminishing the age difference. i did start out by saying it's important because all of this means that yo gets to feel like an adult when dealing with jom, and boy does he get when that changes. he emphasized several times in the show earlier that he's almost an adult, that jom should stop treating him as a kid. and when jom starts treating him like a grown up, that i think is pretty appealing to yo. another thing: emotional maturity. yeah that is debatable, but hear me out. the whole being able to apologize bit really did stick with yo, even though i think he is backpedaling on that right about now. it is important to be able to admit you were wrong but saying sorry that often just wears it out. and jom is so much more likely to hurt your feelings without thinking or meaning to first and then crawl back to apologize. this is now apparently a segment of why yo doesn't like jom but oh whatever.

i am actually seriously baffled as to why jom is so ready to see the worst in people, but especially yo. every time something comes up he immediately assumes yo did something horrible, with the fight and the drugs and everything. like yo deserves this level of mistrust, when he's been proven right in both of these scenarios! i hope we get to see some of jom's ex as an explanation for this type of behavior.

I honestly hate whining about x but people complaining that willy is getting "redemption arc like way" is so funny to me because babe literally gets nightmares about way, kenta was ready to throw hands when he thought chris was way, the other things? That's the grief of loosing something babe didn't have. Even when your "loved one" turns to be a criminal, you would still possess love for them and you would grief about them if though you never forgive them. A lot of people write of characters like "yeah they got assaulted by their loved one and now hate them" and just move on...it's more complicated than that. Way's past is a part of the story and him sacrificing himself too is something he thought would be a redemption, but the show never erased that away, you can see that multiple times. Babe can never forgive way but that doesn't mean he can't grieve either.

Willy is not getting a redemption arc either, his story is a part of the lore, every person has a sad story but that doesn't mean the show is redeeming them. You know what redemption arc is? Dean. Yes dean's part in the story is the only redemption arc and even then the characters didn't forget what he did.

I'm bored and I can't even scroll through tumblr without getting spoilers for all the weekend shows I haven't had time to watch yet, so:

You make some good points, but I think it's worth noting that lying was one of the first things Yo did when they met for the first time. Jom's first impression of Yo was that he was ready to spread lies about Jom, someone he's never met. And yeah, it was played for laughs but it was still in character for Yo.

Yo does lie easily, it's just that his reasons are mostly (but not solely) to help others. And Jom also sees this later, when he says he could rather picture Yo lying to see a girl than to get drugs. (which is entirely correct, the first time we met Yo we saw him pretend to be backstage staff to see the girl he likes)

Jom's reaction here is terrible and I love that Yo doesn't just forgive him this time, because this cycle of Jom failing him and then apologising needs to be broken. But I also absolutely understand why Jom fucked up. He's struggling in every aspect of his life. There are a ton of problems in the village. The only one he can count on is granny, and even she sometimes adds to his stress by lying to set him up with some girl. He cannot trust the rest of his family.

His relationship with Yo is complicated from the start but he's starting to feel like he can trust Yo, like maybe he could have someone else in his corner. And then the drug thing happens and his fear gets the better of him. Not just because he could lose someone he's starting to trust but also because he's terrified of failing the people in his care. He's scared that he won't be able to help Yo and that's why he thinks he shouldn't have agreed to take him in.

Hey, real question, has Yo ever actually lied at any point? Like, sincerely, has he lied? Because I don't think he has. If anyone's lied, it was in fact Jom and his manipulation. And I mean before this exact moment and I do wanna point out that Yo is telling as much of the truth as he can without getting Toey in trouble as well.

Seriously, does Jom knows Yo at all?! Have they been talking at all outside the scenes we see? Because if they have been... this man is a terrible judge of people.

... Yeah, this is why Yo never trusts adults.

I do appreciate the compassion in this part. And you can tell Yo does as well. Because he knows he did the right thing in helping Toey and that he is lying to Jom... just not about what Jom thinks he's lying about and he's telling as much of the truth as he possibly can.

My precious black and white thinking young adult. He is so precious to me. He doesn't accept anything. He will, in fact, simply leave. But he won't lie and he won't back down. Not for anything. Because he's protecting someone he cares about and he puts that protection about himself.
