A lot of pop psychology gets thrown around and since I already have a headache, here's preventing you lot from making it worse.

Love-bombing: A manipulation tactic of increasing affection and grand gestures before or after doing something abusive, specifically to weasel one's way out of consequences.

What it is not: A streak of affection and generosity towards friends/loved ones.

Trauma-bonding: Knowingly traumatizing someone to take advantage of their vulnerable state, to then act like the "hero" or the one who cheers them up.

What it is not: Bonding over similar traumas.

Gaslighting: *Knowingly* convincing someone they cannot trust their own perception of a situation in pursuit of one's own narrative.

What it is not: Misaligned perception of events.

Narcissist: Someone afflicted with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a traumagenic cluster B disorder, that struggles with self-obsession, paranoia, craving validity from the public, delusions of grandeur, and social disconnection.

It is not: Your rubbish ex that cheated on you.

Why don’t you just tell people to leave bad relationships? Do you like encouraging abuse?

When has it ever worked to tell someone in a relationship to just “leave?” Maybe it has, but that would be incredibly rare. I find that it doesn’t help someone or make them feel safe to talk to you if you just tell them to leave and stuff like that.

I use the approach of laying out the behaviour and what it should be like to try and help people see that it isn’t okay but even that isn’t likely to convince someone to leave but it’s more likely to get them thinking about things.

Telling people in toxic relationships to just “leave” can make them feel judged and less likely to approach others in the future. It seldom accomplishes anything I’ve found so I don’t just go “leave”. I try to soften it and make the person in the relationship feel safe to talk to me or others in the future. I also usually say specific things and say “I think you should reconsider this relationship” because I’ve found it’s less likely to make people feel defensive and shut down than saying “just leave”.

I also want to mention that I’ve been the person in the abusive, toxic relationship. So while I know everyone is different, I know telling me to just “leave” would have made me cut that person off and fall deeper into the relationship. I try to respond in ways that I was more receptive to. Things that made me start to analyze the relationship and realize things.

Do I think there’s a problem with fandoms centering the men or MLM ships, even when the main official couple are lesbians/sapphic? Absolutely. One of the reasons love Arcane is because of the fact CaitVi were confirmed lesbians (and we do not have good enough rep in media) but most of what I’m seeing is praise for Jayce and Viktor. I love them too but people are completely ignoring or hating on CaitVi for them and it’s just ???

It rubs me the wrong way. They’re flawed, I’m not denying that but it’s no reason to hate on them or just completely shove them aside for the men, in this essay I will continue to-
