father
you are woven into my veins
like a neverending thread i cannot cut
i am branded like a cow
a hot iron against the soft flesh of a clean tongue
i taste your power
like acid down my throat
your anger poisons me
like a virus;
in the process to become unlike you
i've lost myself

spilt milk
the pale mirror shines like the moon
and each drop onto the puddle
sends a ripple into the murky ocean
waves tremble just like my hands
as i attempt to clean up the messes of my mistakes
i feel the soft, cold liquid melt in my palms
the white drippings look like tattered puppet strings as it slips through my fingers
and i’ll try to remind myself
that there’s no use crying over spilt milk
but no matter how many times the milk is washed away
it has left it’s mark, bleached and etched into the cracks of our hardwood floors
just like any liquid it molds itself to whatever it’s thrown in
even if it’s the body of a 12 year old girl backed against the wall
so as the opaque pool expands its edges over the surface
and as the ivory curdles and crusts
i am forced to cry over spilt milk

i look like a woman i’ll never meet
and there’s thousands of me trapped in the mirror
waiting for me to introduce myself
like salvation that will never come
to fools trapped in a glass box
i will continue to deny their existence
the way a god denies it’s sinners
because they will never know me
they way i know them

there are shadows sitting on my carpet
but my reflection is the only person in the room
met with silence and static loud enough to be noise
my hope to understand is humiliating
because it seems like i'll never be able to
no matter where i place myself
and yet you continue to mistake my arms for swords
my teeth for blades
my eyes for fire
but when you feel it is right,
you will rest on my skin
as your last hope, a signal of your sincere desperation
but then you will realize that there is bone and blood
because you're not used to substance anyway
you will grow tired of the possibility that life exists
where you believe there is none

i smell too many people on my skin
and i am the mother to them all
cold and warm at the same time
because this heat is unevenly distributed
i am naked with layers ready to be unfolded
the clear waters of my serenity
diluted by doubtful eyes that glaze over me
and tainted by sharp fangs that have already tasted blood
