Back into reading
I've always loved reading, but while being at uni, this love has definitely reduced. I think this is mostly to do with having so much course reading to do that I really struggle with reading for pleasure. I end up feeling guilty. Over the past couple of weeks however, I've started to read again. I read the tattooist of auschwitz as well as Amy chelsea stacie dee. I'm itching to keep reading, however, I have an exam in less than a week so I'm having to stop myself haha. After next Monday I'm definitely hoping to continue to read. I'm planning on putting every book I read on good reads so that I can keep a track of what I read.

I had my first lecture on Friday. It was 5 hours long and all abou our dissertation. I think it was meant to calm our nerves but it just made me more stree hahaha. It was long but helpful and I got to meet up with people I haven't seen in a while so it was good.

Back to university
So I go back to uni for third year on Saturday and I finally have the new stationery I need. I already have enough highlighters and coloured pens so I didn't have to buy much. I bought my favourite bic 4 colour pen, 2 A4 project book pukka pads, one for each module this semester, and I got a fun A4 notebook from paperchase to put my dissertation notes in.

Some freshers tips
Tumblr media
Freshers is exciting and has loads of opportunities to make friends and get used to your new city/town! I enjoy going out and drinking so I will be talking about drinking and nights out. In no way am I suggesting that you have to drink during freshers week, I was just surrounded by people who did and I did myself.
Make sure your parents leave pretty quickly once you get to your halls. You don't want them hanging around when you could be talking to your new flatmates. Say your goodbyes and have a clean break pretty sharpish.
Buy ready meals/frozen pizzas for your first week. Freshers week will be filled with free food, socialising and of course hangovers. You will not want to be cooking if you can avoid it.
Make sure you have your halls address saved in your phone. The amount of drunk freshers I've had to look after and help them figure out where they live because they've lost their new flatmates.
Don't get too drunk. You don't know these people and they have no obligation to look after you so don't expect that they will. Get drunk but don't get so drunk that you don't know where you are and can't look after yourself
Don't stress about your uni room not looking cute straight away. It might take a while and you might need to buy more decorations as time goes on but it will get there in the end.
Go to the freshers fairs and get as much free stuff as possible, free food, free bags, free lanyards, whatever. You might not use it all but some of it might come in handy.
You don't need to go on every single night out. It's more important that you're happy and energetic than being miserable but still going out. I went on about 4 nights out during freshers and that was enough for me.
Don't get too drunk early on in freshers because you will be put off drinking the rest of the week which could impact how much fun you have. Pace yourself
Don't spend loads of time with friends you already know in freshers week. Spend it with your flatmates and new people. You have plenty of time to catch up with friends who are perhaps also at the same uni. Give it a week or two before meeting up with them.
Be open minded. Whether it's about events or it's about people. You may think one of your new flatmates is not your sort of person but give them a chance. Talk to everyone and treat everyone equally.
Don't attach yourself to any one person and don't let someone attach themselves to you in freshers. You still have plenty of time to make good friends, don't assume the people you had one good night out with are going to be your forever uni bffs because they probably won't be.
Don't get your hopes up. Freshers week is wildly overrated and you will probably have way better nights out in the future. You will probably still enjoy it but if you don't think it's that good, that isn't you being weird, it just really isn't as good as people make out.

Stationery
I ordered a cute paperchase notebook to write my dissertation notes in and I think it's coming tomorrow, I hope it does I can't wait to see it. I normally wouldn't pay paperchase prices but there was a 20% student discount and I need something to make my dissertation slightly less grim

University Tip
Please please please check your emails regularly even outside of term time. In fact, specifically outside of term time. So many people on my course never check it and only know they have to do things because I mention it. During term time important info will probably also be given in lectures but outside of term time it is exclusively through your student email. Don't expect other people to remind you of things you need to do. You are an adult, take responsibility for yourself now.

Dissertation Supervisor
My university released our dissertation supervisors today. I got my first choice which I'm happy about because I've already spoken to her about my ideas and she seemed excited about them. Only two others have the same supervisor as me so hopefully that means I'll get lots of support. I'm very happy as I can start preparing now, just need to buy a nice notebook for it.

Uni Timetable
I got my uni timetable today. So far I'm only in 2 days a week, but I'm sure that'll change once we get our dissertation supervisors. I'm hoping my uni schedule stays quite empty so I have time for other things.

Not feeling too happy right now hahaha, I was seriously considering doing camp America next summer and was actually getting a bit excited about the idea of doing it only to remember that I'll have graduation in the middle of July which will make it impossible to do camp America. I can't miss my own graduation but I'm a bit sad because I wanted to do camp America. I could do it the following year but if I get a teaching assistant job like I plan, I still won't be able to do it. I feel like I've completely missed my chance and I feel a bit shit about it all.
For the post grad I want to do I need at least a year's experience working with children best bet being teaching assistant, so it's not even like I could put that off for a year because it could be three, four years before I even get on my post grad (if ever) so I can't put it off.
I don't really know what to do now tbh, I don't really want to do solo travelling yet not that I'd be able to afford it.
Just not feeling too pumped now, oh well I'm sure I'll figure out some reason as to why doing camp America would be terrible anyway hahaha

Dissertation supervisor
I finally submitted my form for my dissertation supervisor. I had to pick my top 7 out of 30 and rank them. Tbh there's only like 2 or 3 I'd be happy with, but hopefully I get my top choice. I was scared to submit my choices because once you've submitted your choices you can't change them but I had to bite the bullet and do it eventually. I'm hoping to focus my dissertation on educational psychology.

How To Cope On GCSE Results Day 🌸🌺💮
So it's been a few years since my own GCSE Results day (4 years) and since 2019 results day is coming up, I thought I'd share some wisdom.
The Day Before
So the likelyhood is you're going to be nervous. Best bet is to do something to take your mind off it. Go out for the day with your family, watch a load of films, read a book etc. Honestly anything to keep you busy, even cleaning can help.
Get some perspective. Let's be real, most of us aren't going to Oxford or Cambridge and lots of us don't want to. If you aren't interested in either of those then your GCSEs aren't super duper important. What I mean by that is as long as you pass your core subjects and get enough passes to get into your next qualification (e.g. College, sixth form, apprenticeship etc.) the rest don't matter too much. And even if you don't pass your core subjects, don't stress too much, most sixth forms will allow you to resist them, especially sixth form colleges.
OK so you probably aren't going to get loads of sleep, that's a given. But still shower and get into your jammies and lie in bed because you might get a few winks here and there. The next day might be quite busy what with a usually fairly early morning, lots of talking to people at school when you pick up your results and even celebrating after.
If you want to see what other people are saying about the results and exams, look on twitter, not the student room. Twitter is full of memes and jokes, as you'll know from after each exam. The student room is full of very self assured people talking about all the content they put in their exams and how they're definitely getting all top grades. Who needs that the night before when you're stressing that you didn't get a single pass grade?
The Morning of
Don't stress about getting to school for a certain time. If you want to go early, go early, if you'd rather wait until the crowds thinned out, do it that way instead.
Wear something nice. Now this is more of a suggestion but often there are lots of pictures taken some by parents and students, others by staff for the school website and sometimes even local news show up. You don't want pictures out there for life with you still in your jammies hahaha. Also you never know if your parents have planned a surprise celebration meal.
Choose how and where you want to open your results. Some people do it with their friends, others on their own. Some like to do it in school, whereas others might choose to go back to their car to do it. Either way it's up to you
Relax. The papers have been marked, the results are on the paper, you can't change them now, so no point stressing too much.
Have backup options. Things didn't go well and your sixth form of choice won't let you in? It's fine, there will be plenty of other options so look around. My sixth form college wasn't picky about who they let in and plenty of others will be the same. It's not the end of the world things will work out
Finally I want to say good luck, and these grades will seriously not define the rest of your life. I know it might not seem like it now, but whatever happens will lead you somewhere great and in 5 years time you'll be glad things went the way they went. 🌟

Enrolled!
Finally enrolled for my final year at uni. I'm actually terrified because it's finishing so quickly I don't want to leave hahaha. It's exciting too though because I have so many different options when I finish.

Definitely a mix between A and D
types of note takers
a: spend more time picking which pen and washi tape to use than actually taking notes. their notebook is a giant rainbow explosion.
b: simple. one pen, one notebook, maybe a highlighter if they’re feeling fancy.
c: takes notes on their laptop. organized, minimalist, timely. they have two windows open at all times: homework and tumblr.
d: doesn’t take many notes because they zone out for half of each class and is on their phone for the rest.
e: audio records the classes as well as taking notes by hand. later re-writes notes and types them *just in case* they lose their notebook. they never do.
f: never actually shows up to class, and if they do, they somehow forgot to bring a pen and paper.
g: you never see them taking any notes, instead they are always eating chipotle or mcdonalds in class. yet somehow they have the highest grade in the class.
