Hey everyone, hope you’re all well and staying safe. I wanted to apologise for the disappearance and lack of content on this blog. I’ve kinda come to a standstill with my writing; I feel like I've lost touch with it and needed to take the time to rediscover it, particularly why I started writing this...hence the silence and lack of content, though I hope that normal activity will resume soon. Thank you for sticking with this mess of a writer, love you all x

Find the word tag
Thank you to @imintheunderworld for tagging me in this (via @thesteamgoth). I tag @cassandra-yannu-writes @sarmarble @moondust-bard @antique-symbolism @awkwardexistencewrites @the-midwrite-oil @merielleswriting @megxnswrites @canallynwrite @starchaser3587 (no pressure tho!) Your words are: tension, pale, sun, wind and nature
Tension: No words for this.
Pale:
Before her was a husk of the young woman she knew who went by the name of Karishma Singh. She was incredibly thin; gaunt looking, with dark circles under her eyes. Her skin was pale too, and there were these puncture marks scattered across her body.
No…
Iara ignored the pain that continued to take root in her chest and got up onto her feet.
“Kari,” Iara sobbed. Holding back the urge to clasp the woman into a hug.
Sun:
Cailean was in shock. Though it wasn’t veins, golden as the sun against her olive skin which caused him shock. He was shocked at her reactions. The way those veins pulsed and throbbed against the surface of her skin. The scrape of her fingertips across the surface of the wall, brick breaking as she clawed at it. The straining of her neck and back as she twitched and twitched and twitched. The sight was familiar; something he endured every full moon.
Wind:
The woman with the crown shook her head, looking ahead. Their eyes met and Aliskandariya felt her heart jump, but the pitter patter of that heart of hers calmed when she shook her head.
“No not one us.” She sighed. “She who we feared dead.”
And then they were whisked away with a gust of wind; their image crumbling to dust until Aliskandariya was back in that temple again, trembling but not alone. A woman made in fire loomed above. She had curly hair tied back from her slim face. She reached towards Aliskandariya.
Nature:
“You wouldn’t understand. I don’t have the luxury of being the daughter of a High Council Member, who can break as many rules as I want.” Iara raised her voice; the volume she noticed called several residences to their windows to see what was going on. Her fae nature relished in the shock on their faces that such a bellow could come from her.
“Listen here Selkie. It’s your call. You know where to find me if you decide Karishma’s life is worth saving.” The dial tone went, signalling that she had hung up. Iara looked at the phone, and shoved it in her pocket.

Rules: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic/original/anything!) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence!
I was tagged by @arwallace over on @thesteamgoth. Thanks again! Sorry it took so long to post this!
Another excerpt from Iara’s PoV:
“Search the crypts in Highgate Cemetery. The West Cemetery.” Iara stepped out, slipping into the crowd of human tourists which frequented the market and following them out onto the main road. She needed to get home, and quick in order to prepare for tonight. Afterall, those protective elixirs weren’t going to make themselves.
I shall tag: @the-writing-cult, @sarmarble, @antique-symbolism, @moondust-bard, @allyn-racki, @cassandra-yannu-writes, @awkwardexistencewrites, @the-midwrite-oil,  and whoever else is interested! (No pressure!)

A big thank you to @moondust-bard for tagging me in this. Go and check out her first line here which was beautifully written.
Here is the first line from Bound by the Serpent's Mark (formely 'A Matter of Time'):
Aliskandariya Korkmaz knew very well that smacking her head against a wooden table was not know to alleviate a mind block, and would at most generate a headache.
28 words xD I shall tag the following writers (as per usual no pressure to take part in the tag!)

WIP: A Matter of Time
Tumblr media
DETAILS
Genre: NA Urban Fantasy
Started: January 2013
Status: First Draft
Words: 55k
PoV: Multi PoV
Narrator: Aliskandariya Korkmaz, Cailean Calhoun, Iara Vega
SYPNOPSIS
This is a story. A story of a child of the flame; A story of a child of the moon; A story of a child of the sea. This is a story of those children who hunger for the truth.. Aliskandariya Korkmaz, Cailean Calhoun and Iara Vega never would’ve thought their paths would cross with one another. But then again, they never thought they would be racing against the clock to prevent the rising of an ancient enemy which, if successful, threatens to shake the foundations of which the human and the supernatural have remained at peace, effectively hidden and distinctly separate for centuries.
CHARACTERS
Aliskandariya Korkmaz: Archeology Student; Goth; Pyranyx. Growing up in a single parent family taught Alis to be self reliant, but also hardened her heart. She’s armed with a short tongue which often delivers sarcasm, curses and the occasional Turkish phrases. But the exposure of family secrets, which turn her seemingly ordinary life upside down causes Alis to call into question the extent to which the line between reality and what she believes to be fantasy blurs.
Cailean Calhoun: Music Student; Celloist; Lycan. Losing both parents at the age of five years old, Cailean was fortunate enough to be supported by and brought up by his only living relative: His grandmother and her Irish Wolfhound, Lyall. He doesn’t remember much from that night, but a close encounter with a vampire which results in his capture brings the memory of his parents' disappearance to the forefront of his mind; causing him to question whether his parents truly drowned in a shipwreck, or whether they were victims of something much more sinister; something stained with blood.
Iara Vega: Law Student; Human Rights Activist; Selkie. As calm as the water she swims in, with the scent of the ocean wafting from her dreadlocks, Iara’s got the beat of justice thumping in her heart; and a tase for taking action running through her veins. When her girlfriend is missing, feared to be in the clutches of a Vampire, Iara knows she’ll fight fang and claw against her fears in order to save her, even if taking action sweeps into an age old battle of revenge that transcends centuries.
WORLDBUIDLING INFO
Set in present day London. Humans are oblivious to the existence of Fae, Lycans, Pyranyxes, Vampires and Witches. A decision which has its origins stained in blood and serves these creatures well; often humans have been manipulated to suit the needs of these creatures.

Rules: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic/original/anything!) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence!
I was tagged by @antique-symbolism! Thank you for tagging me and so sorry it took me a while to complete this.
Iara didn’t know what she expected as a reasonable response to such a statement, and perhaps there were certainly a plethora of ways in which Iara could have phrased such a statement so that it didn’t sound as suspicious, but she certainly didn’t expect to be shoved up against the wall, by a woman who appeared human but certainly did not smell or exude human strength, holding a knife to her neck.
I shall tag: @cassandra-yannu-writes, @arwallace, @sarmarble, @the-midwrite-oil, @merielleswriting, @aeschknight, @allyn-racki and anyone who would like to take part. As usual, there is no need to do the tag if you don’t want to.

An Excerpt from Chapter 10
“Do you even know what a Pyranyx is?” Cailean asked as he turned to Aliskandariya. She clenched her lips together, not a single word falling from it. He couldn’t believe it.
“You don’t know.” He shook his head. How did she not know? He opened his mouth and then closed it. What could he possibly tell her? That she was this creature of ash and blood; A girl with a Phoenix living inside of her. No, that didn’t really explain what they were. His grandmother knew. But Cailean couldn’t string the words coherently, all that filled his mind were snippets of the stories his grandmother told him; of the Pyranyxes’ role as Guardians of the unprotected, the victims of the Council’s failures.
“Do you know what I do know?” She asked, and Cailean was pulled out of his thoughts by the hard edge to her voice, and looking at her he noticed the fury bubbling in her eyes. “That there’s something…” she paused and moved her hand up until she rested it in the middle of her chest. “There’s this thing inside of me. And it burns.” She took a deep breath. “It burns and burns and burning won’t stop. I just want it to sto—” She coughed.
Her arms were shaking as she moved them up to cover her mouth with her palm. Her veins were pulsing against her skin once more, in that orange light they usually exuded, though rather than continue, it flickered, in time with the little twitching movements her body made. That’s how she’d been the past few hours. They would glow orange, her neck would twitch, and her veins would go back to blue. Moments late she would twitch again, perhaps her wrist and then her veins would be orange once more until they turned back to blue following another twitch. And the cycle would repeat, just like that, for hours.
“Aliskandariya.” Karishma looked to Cailean as she stopped what she was doing and proceeded to rubbing the girls back as her coughs continued. She had moved onto her knees, the coughing continuing as she pressed her forehead against the concrete, as if that would help alleviate whatever she was suffering with. She managed to look up at him between those coughs of hers to force a garbled mess of words out of her mouth. As much as a garbled mess those words were, he had been able to decipher the question she had asked.
Why are you looking at me like that?
Iron wafted up his nose. She sat up, wiping against her mouth with her sleeve, but she couldn’t hide the blood which stained her lips. Why was she coughing up blood? Unless… the rapid change of her veins, the twitching. He knew he had recognised the sight three days ago; he recognised those symptoms. They were similar to those wolves; those bitten, not born who rejected the change, and it never ended well for them. That was the only explanation behind her pale skin, the dark circles under her eyes, the flickering of her veins and the twitching. It all made sense now
“You’re changing.”

11/11/11 tag
i was tagged by the lovely @sarmarble ! here thank you for tagging me and sorry I’m so late in doing this. Without further ado...
1. What is your favourite part of writing?
The discovery of it all. I’m not really one for massive plans and pretty much go with the flow of it all. I have an idea of where I’m going or rather what I want to accomplish in a particular scene but that’s as far as my planning goes. I like discovering the story as I write; it’s my favourite part of writing and honestly it brings me such joy (and relief) when the pieces finally fall into place :)
2. List 3 of your favourite fictional characters from books that aren’t your own.
Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone Triology
Inej from Six of Crows Duology
Eve from the Morganville Vampires Series
3. Do you listen to music as you write? If so, what kind of music?
Yes I do. All sorts of music; mostly instrumental so expect Lindsey Stirling and Two Steps from Hell to feature on my playlist, but songs from my favourite bands do tend to creep into my playlists.
4. If you had to, what books/movies/tv shows would you compare your wip(s) to?
Books-wise: I would compare my WIP to Dracula by Bram Stoker for Vampires and The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunter Series because the world in which AMOT is set operates under a masquerade: humans are unaware of the existence of supernatural creatures and a group of strangers working together to save the world from the villains. Drac, and to ensure that masquerade stays intact.
Movies: I would compare my WIP to The Mummy, especially considering that the second half of the novel sees Aliskandariya, Cailean and Iara, 3 almost strangers embark on an adventure into the unknown, hunting for the thing (person!) that Markus has been searching for. As the continue on this journey of their, secrets begin to unravel as they begin to discover aspects of their world that remained hidden to them (especially Aliskandariya). For this reason, I would say part 2 is very much like the Mummy, and I am most looking forward to writing it.
TV Shows: I would compare my WIP to Penny Dreadful by virtue of the mythology explored in AMOT and the aesthetic which I hope to achieve with this story.
5. Describe your writing process.
I am currently in the stages of my first draft, and the drafting process began with just writing random scenes. Now as I’ve stuck with this project, I have begun taking a more structured approach.
I’ve split the novel in parts, and briefly written a description as to what I want to happen for each POV character (of which there are three) and I just write my chapters around that description. It seems to working so far, though the plot tends to change direction quite often and I find myself having to fight the urge edit as I write.
To conclude, it seems my drafting process consists of a ‘discovery draft’ as any outline I have created becomes redundant after a couple of months xD
6. What keeps you motivated to write?
This burning desire of wanting to hold the finished copy in my hands. I’ve got to finish it because then the real work of rewriting and editing will begin and when I have finished then maybe, just maybe, I'll be closer to my dream of fashioning this mess into a real book.
7. Were there any books that made you decide to start writing? If not, why did you start writing?
If I think about it, I realise that I began when I was around 9 years old. The reason as to why? I think it was the escapism which writing provided for me. There were points where I stopped and then when I was 12 I picked it up again. I think I took a look at the books I read and thought “i can totally do that!” Several abandoned stories later, here we are.
8. What form of media is most inspiring to you: books, movies, tv shows, video games, or something else?
I honestly take inspiration from many sources, but music takes the top place; its ability to transport me into my character’s heads and into scenes means that it serves as the most inspiration form of media to me.
9. How do you get into the mood to write?
Music Music Music!
10. What are your top 3 fictional relationships, platonic or romantic?
Patroclus x Achilles
11. What would your characters’ reactions be upon meeting you and knowing that you’ve orchestrated their entire lives?
Aliskandariya: “So this is all your doing?” *hands alight with flames*
Cailean:.... *silence*
Iara:.... *looks to Cailean* “What Alis said*
questions under the cut!

5. What do you hope readers gain from reading your WIP(s)?

So without further ado:
“Karishma… She’s… She’s missing, has been for a week. And I can’t leave her to the police to find.” She looked at her mother as she mentioned the police. “I have to do something. I have to find her,” she whispered.

Note
which character is your favorite to write and why?
Thank you for the ask Megan!!!
Aliskandariya is honestly my favourite to write. I’ve been writing her the longest (early drafts were just her POV) and I love writing her reactions to the events happening to her like discovering aspects of her world and reacting to the existence of supernatural creatures and her own status as something not human.

Note
What was the inspiration behind Aliskandariya, Cailean, and Iara? And if they were stuck in a deserted island together, would they be able to get out and how?
Merielle, thank you for the ask!!!
I’ve been writing this for 4+ years that I’ve honestly forgotten the specific inspiration behind each character. Though I can say that generally, I wanted a trio of characters that I don’t come across often in YA/NA Urban fantasy.
If all were stuck on a deserted island I think they would be able to get out. Aliskandariya would probably see if she could fly them out (by her wings) though she would probably find carrying both of them a bit heavy XD
