Find the word tag
Thank you to @imintheunderworld for tagging me in this (via @thesteamgoth). I tag @cassandra-yannu-writes @sarmarble @moondust-bard @antique-symbolism @awkwardexistencewrites @the-midwrite-oil @merielleswriting @megxnswrites @canallynwrite @starchaser3587 (no pressure tho!) Your words are: tension, pale, sun, wind and nature
Tension: No words for this.
Pale:
Before her was a husk of the young woman she knew who went by the name of Karishma Singh. She was incredibly thin; gaunt looking, with dark circles under her eyes. Her skin was pale too, and there were these puncture marks scattered across her body.
No…
Iara ignored the pain that continued to take root in her chest and got up onto her feet.
“Kari,” Iara sobbed. Holding back the urge to clasp the woman into a hug.
Sun:
Cailean was in shock. Though it wasn’t veins, golden as the sun against her olive skin which caused him shock. He was shocked at her reactions. The way those veins pulsed and throbbed against the surface of her skin. The scrape of her fingertips across the surface of the wall, brick breaking as she clawed at it. The straining of her neck and back as she twitched and twitched and twitched. The sight was familiar; something he endured every full moon.
Wind:
The woman with the crown shook her head, looking ahead. Their eyes met and Aliskandariya felt her heart jump, but the pitter patter of that heart of hers calmed when she shook her head.
“No not one us.” She sighed. “She who we feared dead.”
And then they were whisked away with a gust of wind; their image crumbling to dust until Aliskandariya was back in that temple again, trembling but not alone. A woman made in fire loomed above. She had curly hair tied back from her slim face. She reached towards Aliskandariya.
Nature:
“You wouldn’t understand. I don’t have the luxury of being the daughter of a High Council Member, who can break as many rules as I want.” Iara raised her voice; the volume she noticed called several residences to their windows to see what was going on. Her fae nature relished in the shock on their faces that such a bellow could come from her.
“Listen here Selkie. It’s your call. You know where to find me if you decide Karishma’s life is worth saving.” The dial tone went, signalling that she had hung up. Iara looked at the phone, and shoved it in her pocket.

W.I.P Tag
Tumblr media
Firstly, my apologies for how long it’s taken to finish this. Thank you for your patience! Thank you to @cassandra-maher-writes for tagging me. You can read about her amazing WIP here! (Do check it out!)
1. What is the working title of your book?
Currently, its ‘Daughter of Fire, though this no longer fits the novel because the current version has now evolved into multi-pov narrative it has no diverged into rather than single. I’ll probably change it when I can think of a better one that fits!
2. Where did the idea for your book come from?
So many things! The current version has certainly evolved from when I first started writing it around 5 years ago (though then, there was no sort of plan. Now I kinda have an idea of the route I’m taking, thank god!)
I have been inspired by:
1) A lot of the media I have been consuming over the past 5 years: Buffy, Catwoman, The Shadowhunters, Dracula (Books and movies), Blue Bloods Series, Penny Dreadful... (and lots more, especially YA Novels, which I cannot name off the top of my head).
2) Mythology
3) My Classical Civilisation Classes (’One Man’s fate curbs the next man’s fate’ from Aeschylus’ Aggamemnon which relates to a key theme explore in the story).
4) Music
3. What genre is your current work in progress?
Either YA Urban Fantasy, or NA Urban Fantasy.
4. Choose the actors for your movie rendition.
I would love to see my book as a movie (maybe a series, but we’ll see, first it’s got to be written. NB: Some of the actors are way older than my characters, but are nevertheless match the image of them in my head).
Cailean Calhoun: Robert Sheehan
Aliskandariya Korkmaz: Cansu Tosun
Iara Vega: Teyonah Parris
Markus Istvan: Neil Jackson
5. Give a one-sentence synopsis of your book.
Aliskandariya Korkmaz, Iara Vega and Cailean Calhoun would never though that their paths would ever cross with each other; but then again, they never thought they would be racing against the clock to uncover the mystery of Sanura Sharpe, whose awakening threatens to shake the foundations on which the worlds of the Human and Supernatural have remained at peace, distinctly separate from one another, for centuries.
6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agent?
I haven't completed enough research into this to make a decision to be honest. I like the idea of traditional publishing, but I’m not keen on the controls imposed on you if that route is taken. But then, I really want to walk into my local bookshop and see my book on the shelves.
7. How long did it take you to write the first draft?
Not finished yet. 5 years ago I embarked on this journey, with no idea as to where I was going. But now I think I have a clear(ish) idea of my destination. Now to finish writing it. (Wish me luck)
8. What other books would you compare your story to?
A bit similar to the Shadowhunter series in relation to the fact that there is a masquerade in place where humans aren't aware of the existence of supernatural creatures. Plus I’m kinda a sucker for anything with vampire hunters in it, and urban fantasy,
9. Who or what inspired you to write the book?
The whole writing thing started when I tried to read twilight (spoiler: I didn’t finish it) and thought to myself, I can totally write a book, though in terms of writing DOF, as I’ve said above, lots of media I consumed through my teenage years has been a source of inspiration.  I would say the film, The Mummy (90s version) has inspired the latest version of my first draft (and the direction which I'm taking with it).
10. What else about your book might peak reader’s interest?
The uncovering of secrets which seem to tie all the main characters together on this whirlwind of a journey halfway across the world. I’ve created my own mythological creature which concerns the lineage of one the main characters (can anyone guess who?). Lot’s of Character development, fighting the bad guys, visiting historic sites. Also, characters with wings!!!
I shall tag: @katshouldbewriting , @dantedevereaux , @moiraaward @goforwardgreenwriter , @allthatpurpleprose , @byriamallo , @authordai , @authorlaragrey , @writeontheedge @colubrina , @arwallace , @wolvesofarcadia, @idreamonpaper and ANYONE ELSE who wants to do it! please tag me so I can see your WIPs!
Feel free to ignore if you've done it already or don’t want to do it.

First Line Tag
Rules: Post the first line of your story, then tag one person for every word in said line.
A big thank you to @moondust-bard for tagging me in this. Go and check out her first line here which was beautifully written.
Here is the first line from Bound by the Serpent's Mark (formely 'A Matter of Time'):
Aliskandariya Korkmaz knew very well that smacking her head against a wooden table was not know to alleviate a mind block, and would at most generate a headache.
28 words xD I shall tag the following writers (as per usual no pressure to take part in the tag!)
@cassandra-yannu-writes @sarmarble @canallynwrite @arwallace @starchaser3587 @merielleswriting @antique-symbolism @luna149 @kaosys @melindawrites @katshouldbewriting @devilshalowrites @aeschknight @queenie-dragon @the-midwrite-oil @halrose @awkwardexistencewrites @ivonoris @somanybeanbags @ireneiswriting @allthatpurpleprose @authordai @byriamallo @siriuslyprocrastinating @writeontheedge @jxsminewrites @catsarehumanstoo @leave-her-a-tome

Aliskandariya slapped her palm against her neck; the roughened skin stinging upon impact. She reacted too late.
“It’s the same one that’s on the news.” The woman sputtered.
“I beg your pardon?” Aliskandariya glared. A glare which did nothing to quell the woman’s staring.
“The same one. Plastered all over the news. Your,” she gestured to Aliskandariya’s neck. “It’s the same one thats on the bodies.”
Aliskandariya froze, and swallowed a lump that formed in her throat. She knew now what the woman was referring to, and she refused, completely refused to believe that there was such a link. Aliskandariya shook her head.
“Merely a coincidence.” She uttered as she pushed herself past the woman, out the door and towards the exit of the GP Surgery.
On her walk home she raised her hand again, tracing her fingertips across the jagged edges of her scar.
“There’s no way—“
She shook her head.
Just a coincidence.

Character Aesthetic: Markus Istvan
He inhaled, almost as if he were committing her scent to his memory. And then he gripped her shoulder, tightly. The leather of her jacket bunched up under that steel grip of his which sent a shock of pain to radiate all the way down her arms. He moved evermore closer, singing:
“Embers and spice, and all things nice…”
He bent much closer towards her, hot breath fanning her ear as whispered:
“That’s what little Guardians are made of.”

Daughter of Fire Excerpt #1
Please let me know what you think. Here’s a little snippet from Chapter 14. If you would like to be tagged in these as I post them, please let me know and don’t hesitate to reach out :)
“I think the Guardian flew too far from her mother’s nest,” Aliskandariya trembled as the whispered words entered her ears, not knowing who uttered them. She was then kicked in the side of her ribs and roughly pushed onto her back, her gaze falling over the face of her offender.
Her form froze - It can’t be – mouth falling open, a gasp stuttering out and then lips tightly closed as her body was once again overtaken by the scorching sensation. Horror didn’t begin to describe the emotional state  Aliskandariya found herself in when her eyes gazed upon the grotesquely familiar face of –
“Markus!” she hissed, “Leave me alone, unless you want anot - ”
Aliskandariya back arched and she grimaced in pain but continued to watch his face, feeling reassured - her lips quirking up at the corners slightly at the confusion written all over Markus’ face as his eyes narrowed in concentration; his eyes moving quickly over her form.

Find the Word Tag
Thank you to @allthatpurpleprose for tagging, I really enjoyed reading your excerpts and can’t wait to hear more about your WIP.
fair
Aliskandariya unlocked the front door, ushered her sister in then quickly bolted, latched and locked the door, taking extra care not to make much noise. It was well past midnight, so it was fair to say that their mother was home, though asleep - the lack of lighting signalled that to be truth.
tension - no mentions of tension yet.
strength
It was certainly impossible for such damage to occur to the door, considering  Aliskandariya didn't push the door so hard and also considering that she did not usually possess strength that could damage the hinge of a heavy hospital door.
alive
“Watching you give your last breath would be such a pleasure to watch,” Markus smiled. “Such a shame we need you alive.”
My words for you to find are: truth, light, silent, hidden
I tag @cassandra-maher @wolvesofarcadia , @katshouldbewriting, @authordai, @goforwardgreenwriter, @writeontheedge, @crazybunchwriter, @atelierwriting, @moiraaward, @fynn-patrick-writes, @jxsminewrites, @temporarysentences, @byriamallo, @melodielgrace, @celstefani, @siriusly-writing  and anyone else who would like to take part. You were ten years old when it started.
It began with a high temperature, the feeling of fire running through your veins and a burning sensation in your shoulder blades.
Your mother takes your 10 year old self by the hand and tells you not to worry about it. She whispers this as she hands you a drink of something. You're not sure what it is, but you take it with both hands and although it soothes the burning pain, it leaves a foul taste in your mouth.
It's a taste which you cannot place. An iron tang that sends ice shooting through your veins as it slithers down your throat.
You cannot shake it. It lingers in your morning coffee and evening tea, lulling your body into a continued state of coldness; a continued state of control
It's not until 8 years later when you're scarred from your very first battle that you notice it.
It's not until after you discover the truth, or rather, until it is revealed to you that you realise what you had been consuming.
Poison.
To keep you true nature under lock and key.
It's from that moment on that stop taking what she freely offers. You stop
From that moment on you embrace all that was subdued. You embrace all that you are.
From that moment on, you are in control.

The day has come. After much thought, I have renamed my wip (since its no longer about the daughter of fire). The tale of Aliskandariya Korkmaz, Iara Vega, and Cailean Calhoun shall be named 'A Matter of Time'. Will this name stick? I have no idea.

This is a story.
A story of a girl who hungered for the truth.
A story of a boy with a taste for vengeance.
A story of a girl who would take action.
This is just a story.
This is a Story of Three | Part 1 of Scattered Ashes: A Collection of Thoughts Surrounding the Daughter of Fire Series | F.D

When the night falls, you will have a choice. Do you stand by my side and fight. Or do you run and pretend that you are no more a part of this world than I am?
