All You Can Eat
Is there anything better for a college student than endless food? How about endless good food, that is a fun experience to share with friends? Being able to go to an all you can eat restaraunt is very fun for all people going, especially when you mentally prepare yourselves for how much you are going to eat. While these places are often on the more expensive end for how much you pay per meal, the meal is endless so it quickly becomes worth the price.
Both Korean barbeque and hot pot are great all tou. an eat options that are easy and fun to share with friends that are also interested in eating with you. These fun meals are also delicious, which is a bonus in itself with the variety of different and possi ly new things that you could eat, bit to mention all of the different sauces and side dishes.

Everything Nice
Sometimes, the fun if an outing is in the preparation for it, and the people you spend it with, rather than how much you spend at the place. This is especially so for being able to dress up as formally as you can, wearing your nicest ir fanciest outfit to be able to go out. There are all sorts of interesting places to go that require fine dress, but what is especially gun is to find a fancy or themed bar, dress up and go to it. Even though the drinks are pricey, as long as your fun is in the people that you. ring and being able to dress up for the outing, you will likely only have to buy one of the more expensive fancy drinks.

Thrifting
A great way to cure some boredom for yourself and some friends if you fancy is to plan a day to go thrifting. This is especially fun if you've been looking for something new or interesting to wear, and don't want to spend a lot of money on it! There are many places to buy used clothes from, the most common place being Goodwill, but with many others and different kinds of thrift stores available to go to. There are even vintage or high end thrift stores for you to find more specific pieces than just your average run of the mill thrift shop!
By buying used from a thrift store, not only do you get to save money, but you a tr e also being eco friendly in reusing what already exists, rather than getting something new. In addition to that, there is the added fun of all the different and quirky finds that you and your friends might uncover when sifting through the stuff that these thrift stores end up with.

Enjoying Your Surroundings
Sometimes you don't need to do anything all that special to alleviate boredom, as long as it gets you away from your usual hangouts and places you spend the most time. These times are the times that are best spent taking nice, long walks, either alone or with a friend. There's nothing quite like being able to walk leisurely, appreciate nature, and people watch. Remembering that we can and should take walks like these once in a while is the hardest part, but once you've started, it's quite relaxing and fun to do, whether you listen to music or just walk with your thoughts or conversation with whoever you are walking with.
The best part about these walks are that they cost nothing at all except the time you are willing to spend on your walk, be it 20 minutes or hours. In addition to the fact that it is free, these walks never have ti get repetitive, because you can walk wherever you like. and there are always new places to visit.

Tea Time
Now I know that we sometimes have the idea that people that go to tea must be wealthy -- after all, the Queen takes high tea. However! There are many smaller tea shops that are for regular tea, instead of super fancy high tea. Going out to tea with a few friends is a great experience, and inexpensive as well. The idea of doing something new is always fun, especially when it is cute or surprising to go for tea. Many of these places offer a variety of different kinds of tea -- but don’t worry if you aren’t sure what kind to get! The staff at these places are usually friendly and very willing to give recommendations on what to try if you are unsure. In addition to tea, there are all sorts of tea time snacks you can get, like scones, biscuits, or fresh berries and cream. And while these places aren’t free, they are affordable! Getting a pot of tea can range from $5-$12, but you could sit there and drink it for a few hours, and these pots are easily shareable with friends. Small pastries and other tea time snack are usually around $4, so even going out and spending a bit is not too bad, especially when you can split a pot of tea with a friend. Paying a little bit for a fun experience that is likely new is always fun, and who knows, maybe you will end up liking it and being able to go to tea once in a while for a treat!
Great places to go for tea in New York City are Tea & Sympathy, and Alice’s Teacup. Tea & Sympathy is an authentic British tea shop, with reasonable prices and a homey atmosphere. Their sandwiches are delicious and have a modest choice of a few delicious teas. Alice’s Teacup, on the other hand, is more whimsical, fashioned after the referenced Alice in Wonderland. They have a huge selection of teas, every one that I have tried being delicious, and have very good scones. Alice’s runs a bit more expensive in menu prices than Tea & Sympathy, but include gratuity in the menu price, so there is no need to tip there.

Potluck
Everything is at least a little bit more fun with your friends -- you know the saying, the more the merrier! This goes doubly so for potluck. Being able to get together with your friends and even your friends’ friends is a great way to socialize and get a little pick me up from spending time with other people. In addition to that, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction from people enjoying food that you’ve made, prepared, or brought. By sharing a meal in both consumption and preparation with your friends and even maybe some acquaintances, you will be able to get to know them better, and just have a great time all around talking and laughing with the friends you know and love. What’s also great about a potluck party is that it is so cheap! With everyone coming together to bring a different piece of a meal, no single person has to spend a lot of money on providing food for a crowd. This also means that you get to experience the fun eclectic meal mix that people put together, having food items you would never think to serve together normally. When preparing for a potluck there’s no worry about money -- just put together what you have in your fridge, or even stop by the store and pick up a few sodas for just a few dollars, since everyone will appreciate that someone remembered to pick up drinks.

Popular Museums -- They’re Popular For A Reason
Another great way to spend a day either on the week or the weekend, and an impressive place to bring any visitors that may be around, is to go to a popular museum in your area. These museums are popular for a reason! They usually have all sorts of rare and interesting items and artifacts to look at, some of them being very well known or even famous. From world class artwork to dinosaur bones, there is likely a popular museum for everyone to enjoy, especially because these more popular museums are larger and better funded than the less popular counterparts. In addition to that, these museums are usually pay what you want, which could be anything from the recommended amount to a penny, as instead of actual admission fee, all money is a suggested donation that goes toward funding the museum. Because of this, it is very affordable for cash-strapped students to go to and enjoy without having to worry about their wallet the whole time! Even repeat visits are interesting, as museums do change their exhibits from time to time, and these larger museums have so many items inside that it would be hard to see them all in one trip, anyway.
Museums like the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or the Museum of Natural History are great picks for any student looking for something to do in their free time, or even great places to bring visiting friends or family. Each one has a wide variety of interesting artifacts and items to sate the curiosity of nearly anyone.

Film and Culture Festivals
In bigger cities, film festivals are not a super rare occurrence, and oftentimes, they are free, or at least partially free. They are events held by various organizations, such as The Korea Society, or the French Institute: Alliance Française, for cultural film festivals. Such festivals will have viewings of short films or clips of feature length films available to watch to the public. In addition to films, these festivals can also have other events, such as art galleries, or workshops about the craft. These galleries and workshops are usually free as well. At French Institute: Alliance Françaises NYC Festival of French Animation, they also had an augmented reality and virtual reality exhibition available to the public for free to visit and walk through. They also had a selection of free video games for trial, ranging from a tour version of the popular Assassin’s Creed: Origins, to demos of games from smaller studios, such as A Plague Tale - Innocence. All of these games, in addition to several virtual reality games, were available at the festival for free, for three days over the weekend.
While film festivals and culture festivals are not constantly available to go to, they are a good option for those willing to keep an eye on the goings-ons of their city, especially as a way to have fun without having to spend too much. In addition to being a cheap option, these festivals are also interesting to attend because of the variety of content you get to see there -- watching films from directors you’ve never heard of, and being able to see some more experimental filmmaking that we would not be likely to see on Hollywood’s silver screen.

Saving fun
We’ve all felt the conflict of wanting to go out and enjoy ourselves, but worried about how much a day or night out could cost. How sometimes we have to think and calculate how much we could be willing to spend, or maybe just sitting out one invitation out after another. However, there’s no fun in watching your friends manage to go out together, while you sit at home to save instead. So, in hopes of helping out other scrimping college students, or anyone that wants to save money, really, I’ll be blogging about affordable outings -- things to do, places to go, interesting finds, or other experiences that won’t be gated by how much money we have (or don’t have, that is).
Some of the options that I will be presenting will be things that anyone can do, but I am based in New York City, so there will also be experiences specific to this area that I will be posting about. The preferred options will always cost as little as possible, but will not always be free.
