My cousin got his face mangled by a bristleback last year because he saw a TikTok of someone rescuing one and thought he could raise it. Surprise surprise, he almost lost an eye and his face is permanently scarred now. I’m so tired of people spreading this kind of misinformation, it’s so incredibly dangerous! START DOING YOUR DAMN RESEARCH!!

Given the THIRD TikTok I’ve seen this week where somebody has a dragon in their CAR, I think it’s time for another round of “what not to do during hatchling season”!!

Stop trying to get wild dragons to imprint on you. I don’t care what you saw on YouTube about “pure hearts and intentions”, call up your local emergency room and ask how many people get maimed every year.

Seriously, I saw somebody cuddling a juvenile bristleback on Twitter this morning. Do you want to keep all your limbs? Because that’s how you lose your limbs.

The whole “dragons love children and would never harm an innocent” thing is an urban myth. Northern bluescales do sometimes carry off human children without harming them, but that’s because they keep live prey close to their nests when their babies are learning to hunt. It’s not exactly a whimsical journey.

You are not equipped to nurse an injured hatchling back to health. They eat hundreds of dollars in meat on a weekly basis, they piss everywhere to mark their territories and it smells like burning hair, they bite, they screech at all hours, they start fires, and sometimes they just drop dead if they aren’t getting the right nutrients. Just call a rehab center.

If you live near a spawning ground, for the love of god, keep your pets inside. Your cat isn’t smart or quick enough to fight a COYOTE, let alone a beast of legend.

I’m still not over the bristleback thing. They eat people. Don’t hug them.

If you want to soulbond with a scaley friend, ground wyrms are right there. They’re totally domesticated! They like lettuce and having their horns scratched! You can litter train them and their magical aura repels ticks, fleas, and malicious fae! I know they aren’t as “unique” or “cool” as a wild dragon, but they also won’t tear off your fucking arm.

To the people who say queer content will make kids gay, I grew up in the most stereotypical heterosexual household you could ever imagine and I still turned out queer.

My mom stayed home and did housework. My dad was the one who worked. I loved pink and princesses and babydolls. My brother loved cars and superheroes. The rest of my extended family also followed this pattern.

My entire life I have been surrounded by the traditional cishet family. Queer things were never a topic of discussion, or even something I was aware existed. I was raised to be a stereotypical woman who would eventually become a housewife.

Yet even though I had no idea what being queer was, I knew things weren’t right.

Even as a young, young child, younger than 10 l, I knew I wasn’t a girl. I was and still am very feminine presenting. I’m comfortable in my femininity and I was okay with being surrounded by such as a kid, but I did not see it as a woman thing. I just saw it as feminine.

My sexuality journey is a bit more personal, and I’m not quite up to share it in full, but yet again I did know from a young age that I was not straight. I knew I wasn’t attracted to anyone on a base level, that romance and sex were not for me. And here I am, as an adult, still fully aromantic and asexual.

I had no one prompt me. There were no queer people in my life as a young child who influenced me. I simply knew these things about myself, knew I was different, knew I was queer. I just did not have the correct terms to express it through. It wasn’t until much later that I actually started meeting other queer people who helped educate me on labels and such.

So no, it isn’t queer people “making kids queer”. We were already like this from the beginning, even if we did not know it. Often we just learn there’s a name for how we exist.
