“The rest of the night, Abbacchio squanders. He’s less than useless, a messy pile of concern glued to Bruno’s side. So on edge that Bruno had to shoo him out of the dining room after too much intense staring while Bruno was trying to eat.”

“Abbacchio’s heart leaps into his throat at the sight of Bruno there, slumped on the ground at the side of the toilet. Sagging so far down, like he’s trying to disappear into the tile, can’t hold himself upright.

His face is green-pale, much more so than usual, and that purplish scar on his cheek pulls tight at the skin around it. The only spot of real color is his mouth, settled a little bit open and stained red all over, as if Bruno had scrubbed a hand across it at one point, smearing what has to be blood across his cheek. Even the blue of his eyes is dull and dead.”

British people stand so close to you. I don’t know if it’s just some social byproduct of living in an extremely small, very densely populated country or WHAT, but I shouldn’t be able to smell you when I talk to you.

It’s funny, because people seem to generally assume that Americans are the touchy feely ones -and in some ways that’s true. As a transplanted American, I seem to be huggier and more effusive with my affection to those around me, both physically and verbally. AND YET

WHY AM I BEING BREATHED ON ALL THE TIME BY STRANGERS we’re literally just queueing for the post office I’m not here for an intimate experience Christ on a bike

British folks have this reputation for being cold and distant and yet they are always up on each others’ heels.

Like they enjoy proximity with each other without any unnecessary affection.
