Last Saturday we asked one of our singlet friends some questions to kind of understand what their knowledge on DID/OSDD and related topics is. Here are their answers !
-Do you know what causes DID? Or do you have a guess?
DID is caused by repeated tr*um* during childhood before the age of 9
-Do you know what DID’s ‘cousin disorder’ Other Specified Dissociative Disorder is?
The cousin disorder sounds so familiar but I can’t remember for the life of me what it is
-What do you think is the desired end goal for people with DID, and related disorders, trying to heal? If you think there is multiple, can you briefly say what they are if possible?
I don’t know (what) the end goal for people with DID is, maybe to just live as best you can in the circumstances you’ve been given and spread awareness
-What’s your first memory of hearing about the concept of DID?
The first time I heard about DID was in a fanfiction actually, a dnp one. I remember thinking ‘wait is this actually real?’ and then I looked it up and started reading about it and that’s what got me into psychology actually
-Do you know if alters can be based off of fictional characters, or even real people?
I think alters can probably be based off of other people or characters
-Do you think all alters are human?
I know alters can be animals or even objects, they can also be fictional characters like fairies for example
-Can you name any alter roles, if you know what those are?
There’s the host, gatekeeper was one I think, protector, primary protector, I’m not sure if persecutor was a role or something else
-What was your first thought when meeting someone with alters?
You (the host) are the only person that I know that has DID, when I first learned I was like I wanna learn more about DID, maybe I’ll learn stuff from them if they’re comfortable with it
We wanted to see what someone who isn’t multiple thinks and knows as we often forget what the average knowledge of this disorder is. Of course, this friends thoughts and knowledge aren’t necessarily the ‘average’, but ur was still cool to see what a friend of ours thought without being guided by us, and we think they did very well (we also answered any questions she had afterwards and cleared things she was confused about up)

Also, we finally decided on a name that means a bit more and makes more sense; The Etcetera System😊
I wish that I, the host, could say it was a random stroke of genius on my part, but we actually got it from looking up synonyms for ‘multiplicity’. So pretty simple actually, but we all like it (as far as I can tell).

A weird thing about having trauma that you don’t remember, is feeling like you can’t trust anyone. It’s scary and makes you feel like an asshole, but it’s a totally valid reaction.

let’s talk about a ptsd thing that’s called sense of foreshortened future. i don’t see anyone ever talking about it here and i think that it’s important that people know that what they experience is nothing but another symptom of their mental illness.
So what is it?
Basically, sense of foreshortened future is a feeling or a belief that for some reason you won’t have a long and fullfilling life. You feel like you will die soon – or sooner than expected – and therefore you shouldn’t make any long-term plans. You try to avoid long-term relationships, you don’t have any career plans, reaching your birthday - hell, sometimes even managing to surivive the week surprises you.
You feel like you’ll never have a normal life because you’re not only broken beyond repair but also can’t trust anyone anymore. It is an incredibly depressing feeling that makes you feel like there’s no point in… anything, really? Every activity becomes dull and pointless and you don’t know what drags you though life at this point.
I know it won;t make the feeling go away but I want you to know that this feeling is NOT a reflection of reality. You’re not broken beyond repair and you will have a normal happy life if you work on your recovery. making plans is not pointless. You deserve to be happy and you will be happy. Don’t let PTSD and its symptoms convince you otherwise.

Just a heads up, ‘Jurassic system’ is a temp name and we’re still trying to decide on a name that really means something to all of us, so although this name will do for now we will eventually rename ourselves and the blog.
Hopefully that doesn’t confuse anyone too much !

Our ferret got sick a while back, but ended up being completely fine. We were all still super anxious about it for a while after, and had terrible anxiety attacks every time she made a ‘weird noise’. I, the host have managed to calm myself down about it since - as well as our little - but one of us is still very anxious and it makes it very hard to do anything. Any tips on how to calm down an alter when you’re still working on communication?
Also if anyone who knows about ferrets could help give us a more well educated opinion that would also be great💛thank you in advance !

Too low on forks to try to type it all out again, but does anyone else feel this way, at least after discovering they’re plural?
Because for me personally, this ‘who am I really then? What if I’m not actually anyone at all? What if all my redeeming qualities are actually just belonging to my headmates?’ has been an overwhelming constant the past 4 or so months since we figured it out. I haven’t heard anyone else talk about it but I wouldnt think it’s an unusual response, but maybe that’s just me
