Roger <3 (oc intro)

Roger Beckett was born February 14th, 1759 in Salisbury, England. He had been born into a family well known for their wealth and status in society, due to the owning of lavish properties as well as a small trading business.

He fell ill as a child, causing a near deadly-case of pneumonia, which would leave a life-lasting effect on the health of his lungs. He was a sheltered child, typically kept indoors and away from the ‘riff-raff’ of the streets. He was supplied with the regions best tutors, and had the typical high-class education (as much as homeschooling can provide.) Though he was often cast aside into the shadow of his elder brother, Joseph, and elder sister, Martha, who were both destined to be the future of the Beckett name (Joseph taking over the company, and Martha marrying into a wealthy name).

Roger’s life had began to change after the public hanging of one of his father’s rivals, where he’d meet the love of his life, Johnson Morgan <3

After this, Roger would sneak away from his fathers estate to socialize and walk about the markets with Johnson. They had your typical teenage romance, until Joseph had caught them kissing at the port’s docks. Once Roger’s father was informed (though it seemed he was more enraged at the idea of Roger kissing his old rival’s son, over the idea of Roger liking another boy), Roger was sent away for elite schooling and guard training, separated from Jon. ————————————————

Later, during America’s war for Independence, Roger was basically just handed the title Captain (while he was stern and a well-thought planner, he was NOT ready for that rank). He was involved minimally in battles, was overall somewhat disliked by his men for his prissy background, and was even engaged in a duel with Briar Bucking, the man he hates most (which will some day get his own post). He did get to reunite with Johnson during the war, who was working as a British spy, and they fell back into their old romance. Roger was later called back to England for other matters during the war.

Not important/random rant

So I’ve just been doom browsing the internet, if you will, and was looking at some HM portrait info on the wiki— and I remembered the Aging Man, and having recently reread Dorian Gray, I was like “oh wait that’s literally just the same concept.” I was pleasantly surprised to find that Aging Man (or Withered Man) was absolutely based off of Dorian. Not only that, it was called Dorian Gray in certain concepts!

Does this mean he’s got a vanity streak? And if it’s actually Gracey (which Disney did push the idea of him being so, since the general audience found the idea appealing), did he ever have a sort of Henry Wotton influence before his death? Or perhaps a Basil Hallward before his wife? Guys please I know nobody knows either of these things but this genuinely made me so happy to see one of my favorite literature works referenced in one of my favorite pieces of media.
